A sci-fi film that is an allegory about the suicidal character of war waged by militant factions. A military scientist who originally intends to breed perfect robots - crabs, based on the principle "the strongest survive", that would live on metal and would be an ideal diversionary weapon - finds his plans turned against him but it is too late to change it. - Фільми й анімація
People will think this is about war. When in reality it’s about how you shouldn’t make scary crab robots that can reproduce and evolve otherwise they will eat your teeth. Man this film analysis stuff is easy
Ez
Fun fact: the evolution arrived to the shape of a crab at multiple independent occasions. It's that perfect.
Did they already know that in 1976? Or is this dude just a genius?
@@pazuzu643good question lol
It is quite something to think about. All systems devour everything they can, but when they can't devour anything anymore it will devour itself.
The scientist sought to create a being capable of destroying everything, ironically he ended up destroying him and himself. Interesting animation concept.
im fascinated by the crab critter designs, i get the allegory but im a huge fan of speculative evolution
Czechens be like: "ah yes, my favourite childhood cartoon"
Wow this is so deep. But like actually though, it criticizes the dangers of a system ran on a zero sum game. Projecting fears of the eventual self cannibalization of social systems in which everyone fends for themself while also implying that such things appear natural with the personification of a crab. A creature with an unusual evolutionary history.
Though it makes it seem natural through its choice of creature, it also implies that such system doesn't have to be the only one, as it is staged as a controlled expirement, set up by an outside party. Implying that the system in question is created by outside parties; with dreams of amassing an even larger army of creatures made by the system. But alas, there is not enough metal to satiate the crab. And begins to eat itself like a starved creature.
The art for this is sick tbh , very cool cartoon
You'd like Felix Colgrave
@@moolate127 he’s sick just looked ty
Everyone is analysing the implications of the cannibalisation of society or the destructive perfection of the ever evolving military industrial complex that is essentially holding a gun to the head of the world just to make sure the other guy is deader before we're all french fries. I like this because it shows a really clever phenomena in progress: Carcinization, the process by which many organisms evolve into the same animal, usually a crab, as it is an efficient body structure. the robots were left to evolve, those that could take resources more efficiently lived to reproduce, and so they would be dominant and produce more offspring. their offspring would be mutant, and as they mutated at a rapid rate they were able to adapt quickly filling new niches, and so those with successful lineages reproduced more. eventually the final result mimics nature, the crab, one of the most prominent forms of life in the see, a body type so successful that even an artificial lifeform ended up at this evolutionary perfection.
You go into such lengths describing carcinization yet spell “sea” incorrectly. Come on.
@@user-nj6bt5gy4s on that point I thoroughly refuse
@@user-nj6bt5gy4sHaha, I can't 😂.
carcinization is often misunderstood. In fact, this phenomenon takes plac only for decapode crustaceans. So, everything which is derived from crab-like animals (lobster etc).
Thus, it is not such a common phenomenon, just the "same adaptation under same conditions" for a precise order of animals.
There is a lot of forms which are similarly well-suited under precise conditions (fish-like body plan, snake-like one, slug-like, derived parasite...). However, they don't echoe so much on media, idk why. But keep in mind that it is not the "ultimate step of evolution", it is very conditional.
NB: note the importance of the features a species has at the beginning of its evolution to another form. it is the principal limit to evolution: the incapacity to move away from initial features.
@@user-nj6bt5gy4s I fail to sea your point
9:00 "Metal? Ooo! I'M metal, I can eat me!"
perfect allegory, perfect horror. the story ends witht he natural conclusion of the metaphor, but we're all still on the island.
I will tell the kids this is what training AI/ machine learning looks like.
I find the analogy between animals and robots interesting. To me its as if they are saying that animals, like us humans, resemble a biological machine. When each one dies, it was as lifeless as when it began. The exaggerated reproductive system is also deeply robotic which was fascinating
since they also evolve at a rapid pace, it's clear that the scientist designed them with the idea that they would keep eating and reproducing until they began to mutate, and so those that mutated with beneficial adaptations survived and others did not. eventually this led to the perfect fighting machine for the scientist's dream of conquest, funnily enough it mirrors the real world phenomena of Carcinization, the process by which many different separate species evolve into the same animal, which is often some form of crab like with the fighting robot.
Christ I spent so long trying to find this again. Weird as hell, but interesting!
Everything evolves into crabs, including a.i.

Crab committing war crimes
An efficient system will eventually kill man in service of making paperclips, huh.
This is sooo cool. The art style is very interesting, reminding me of Bruno Bozzetto's animations.
The story is amazing too. I see a metaphor of the self cannibalization of humankind.
The music during the dream is so beautiful.
Anyone from insta reels?

Yup
I wonder if this is where Felix Colgrave got some of his inspiration?
I thought the same thing, not even because of the style but because the subject matter and characters share so much with double king and bonks.
This looks like some obscure sesame street animated segment from the 1970s- 80s I can't help imagine seeing this sketch wedged in between a scene with Kermit the frog on the letter W and a scene with Ernie & bert.
Edit: Tell you the truth if this was an actual sesame street sketch it would be a very messed up one. I honestly would have nightmares about that giant metal crab.
That guy had it coming tbh.
This could be cool story for modern adaptation for short animation, film or even full length animation or film
This might have been based on a science fiction short story from the 1970's. I definitely remember it, and it had an evolved crab harvest the scientist's fillings.
it says in the credits that it's based on a short story by Anatoly Dneprov, it might be what you're thinking of
Yes, 'The crabs are walking on the island', written in 1950's I think. I read it some 20 years ago, the animation is very close to the original.
I love this

this the kind of artstyle youd see in your third grade english textbook
I know the scale is off, but between how the robots create more of themselves and the eventual escalation, loss of control, and self-destruction, I get the feeling this might be one of the earliest depictions of Self-Replicating Nanites, as well as a potential SRN apocalypse (consuming everything uncontrollably until nothing is left but themselves).
The Replicators from Stargate SG-1, maybe this is where they got the idea from.
Damn, you may be right! That was the first thing that came up to my mind too.
or CRABS ON THE ISLAND by Anatoly Dneprov?

I got the point of the film (I think), but I still feel bad for the critter.
and in the end the civilization evolution technology finish itself and the way to survive go to old good more human way

I wonder if the animator for the Snail Attack video , unofficial video for tools the pot , got inspiration from this.

And we can see this horrifying faces made of scrabs and rubbles. 6:37 we seeing firsth face in devastated area. And second one is more creepy 6:50 in war scene. But last one 7:00 is most horrifying face than others. What meaning these?
I think it’s the pain and death he’s inflicting on people with the crabs. To me they look like the abstractions of people suffering or being violently injured. The images are cut together with the crab destruction so we can see he loves both the destruction and the mass suffering he causes with it. He’s a sadistic sociopath.

Is there any name for such kind of animation? And how can one make it? Any software recommendation?
