Peter, your Rover is gorgeous. I love how you re-powered her with the trusty 4.3. You did a beautiful job with the fit, while keeping her cosmetically the same. I hope that in the near future that you will be able to get that differential replaced. Your knowledge and craftsmanship of wooden boats and all of their systems is incredible. Thank you for all of the wonderful content. This is one of my favorite channels!
@@TravelsWithGeordie and in oz not sure about diff spreader, I blew diff in my discovery I then bought range rover with arb then put arb in discovery sold range rover with blown rear diff for what I paid for range rover, it was all bolt in at home
You know I'm watching him take the wheel off and then the axle shaft and I'm think to myself put a jack stand under the truck or at lest put the wheel under the frame of the truck so it doesn't come down and crush you. Just saying! From a retired mechanic
35 yrs+ I checked my drive shaft rear end only one bolt...I had no parts or tools but a wire hanger ..it work. 1974 Plymouth Monaco. 2door coupe blues brother vehicle.
I hesitate to comment, devotion to a particulars vehicle is powerful one. I had/have a particular friend who loved VW's. Now every party/function our friendship group made, he entertained us endlessly how wonderful the car was. Then he kept on telling us how much it cost to have that weeks failures fixed. You may favorite man are him. I drive Ford diesel 2016 model no issues....yes no fun fixing things...but no issues
Peter, regarding the truck, perhaps you might want to remove the coupling that connects the driveshaft to the differential it is possible that eiither the splines in that coupling have failed, or those mating splines on the pinion gear. In this case the ring and pinion are still toast but wirth checking. A ring and pinion set generally fail by wear accompanied by a inchreased whining sound. The Borg Warner transmission in my Nordic Tug 32 failed in a manner similar to what I am suggesting here but in that case it was the splines that drove the pinion of the reduction roughly 2/1 reduction gear, That was likely the result of the previously of the shaft dampener with put heavier impact loading on the gear set. Cost $6500 to get mobile again.
Being mobile must be a necessity traveling between Victoria and Genoa Bay. Hope to hear a more encouraging report in reference to the Land Rover in the next episode. Thanks for the bonus episode. Cheers!
Peter, it was so nice to see you spend time with your daughters and new son-in-law. Good luck with the Land Rover and may you find a replacement or fix soon! As to Victron, what I've found with their products so far is very positive. Well thought out, rather easy to install and adapt: they just work. All the best from warm, well sorta warm Florida. LOL
Monitor way too big just doesn’t compute … I’m still waiting for the one that’s big enough to walk into & bounce around in like it’s a big 3D bouncy-house or something. Boat too small makes a little more sense, right? In this time of not-propelled challenges, have you considered a bicycle? It looked like you got the use of one in Cambridge, & that should highlight the issue of ground transportation while cruising. At our age, being fit enough to ride does no harm & bikes are light, easily broken down for storage if need be, cheap, _reliable_ & fun! I think a Brompton would look good on you. 🤙🏻
I often consider a bike but it won't help with my hour and a half commute to Genoa Bay and I don't really need it in town as everything in Victoria is walkable.
Peter, I put a Victron Multiplus 3000 in my boat a year ago, and have quite a bit of their other gear, with the inverter I have had zero issues, I mean to the level that I forget that it is there. It just works. I would also highly recommend getting the Cerbo as it lets you track power usage and generation etc, I love having that ability on mine to see where things are at.
SORRY TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE LIMITED TO BEING MOBILE BUT KNOWING YOU FROM THIS CHANNEL THAT WILL NOT HINDER YOU FROM BECOMING MOBILE. CHEERS PETER THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENTERTAINING VIDEO"S
Geordie does really look festive! I remember the guy from "alluring arctic sailing" entering Victoria last year to the festive lights - he was quite impressed! Really sorry to hear about your truck! And I'm crossing all fingers that the solution will be a lasting one and you will again be mobile on land as well as on water! I found it really funny to see how quickly you can turn your home around 180°.
Hello Peter. Really pleased to see the LR getting towards the centre of the camera frame again and glad you can get driving it (maybe with a bit more work). I wasn't sure it would work well in FWD but happy to be incorrect here. It looks really good in what you showed so hopefully the snags aren't too great. Cool work on the inverters and keen to know the 'reveal'. All the best.
I have been looking at the Victron gear to replace my odd collection of Inverters I have aboard running different things, seems the best way forwards definitely.
You need a Thompson coupling to replace the CV joints. Unfortunately I don't believe they are off the shelf but made to order primarily for large scale mining equipment & trams etc
Victron mine has worked for 8 years without a problem, my solar heats water in the summer as the load when the batteries and my water maker are not taking any juice………
Interesting. I installed a 2000w Renogy inverter charger on my 1975 Ed Monk Roughwater 35 earlier this month as part of a complete overhaul. Once I had it installed, along with all the related brand new components & wiring, I immediately ran into an issue. The Renogy would NOT automatically switch the neutral to ground bonding when inverting. Install was 100% correct (verified by a certified RV/marine tech I didn’t want to pay for but had to). Contacted Renogy just to find out from their tech, neither the 2000w or 3000w units actually have the auto N-G bonding switch, required per UL458, despite the unit’s advertising and owners manual stating it did. Renogy is finally processing a return and refund. For yours you said “ I’m installing the inverter charger I should have installed in the beginning.” I am doing the same exact thing and putting in a Victron Multiplus II 3000kva…more money, but it will work. Really appreciate your explanation with demo on the Victron’s power boost feature, best explanation I’ve seen. Hoping to get this old girl mobile early 2024 and get on the Great Loop. Cheers, Ed
Chassis is looking good on your Land Rover.........no rust! Has it been replaced? Here in the UK, most boat owners fit Victron...........more money yes....but Rolls Royce quality! The only thing I didn't like about their early models was the non serviceable fuse on the board (soldered to the board) so watch out for that............
I was curious how the Rennogy would hold up. I have a nameless Chinese version in a technical space under deck where it can vent and beep as loud as it wants. Build quality is quite good unfortunately. It is irritating as heck and most owners are probably waiting for an excuse to get the real stuff from Victron. The MultiPlus 3000 is what I am going to get for sure when the current one fails, or I set fire to it :-)
looking forward to seeing you mobile again soon, I know just how it feels, my ABD pump failed, my garage sent it to be fixed and the courier promptly lost it (took 4 weeks to admit that), then it took another 6 weeks for the ABS repair place to get a replacement that could actually code to the car properly, so 10 weeks without a car- that wasnt fun, so I feel your pain.
Great video !!! Would you share the Model of the new Inverter/Charger and does it come with the panel and control knob that you showed us. Thanks So Much for these videos !!!!
Beauty -eh. Land Rover simplicity can make for some quick fixes. Mine is about 5 feet from me at this moment. Unfortunately; off to a new owner next week. Well fortunately in some ways - new owner is going to upscale this truck dramatically.
Question. Do you install crimp on ferrules on the wire strands for your shore power connections into the screw down terminals in connector bodies to reduce heating and burning.
Is there anything that you are not an expert in? I imagine the a future episode where you are in an operating room explaining the intricacies of the various cardiac valves and replacing one or two of them with aplomb.

Peter, didn't you end up welding the axels last... winter? Spring? Did that cause additional wear on the ring gear?
