G'day Peter and Andrea - I'm pleased you are enjoying my famous South Aussie beer! It took a bit of organising to get it to you but the team at Strath Liquor in Victoria BC went above and beyond to make it happen (you can get more Coopers there - even order online, as I did!). And Sarah, team lead with the marina dock crew, also pitched in. Thanks to everyone. Hope you enjoy it. And yes, as others have said, you should roll the bottle a bit before savouring a (nicely chilled) Coopers. A just reward for another incredibly interesting and helpful episode. Thanks Peter.
Thanks so very much Terry! We really enjoyed the Coopers and promptly learned to roll it properly as Andrea suggested. We will definitely be looking for Coopers again! It's neat, Cooper's Brewery actually commented recently on the show. Thanks so much for your ongoing support of the show!
G’Day Peter and Andrea. Cheers for tasting our classic Sparkling Ale all the way from Adelaide, South Australia where we’ve been brewing beer for over 162 years. All our Ales are naturally conditioned - if you give ‘em a little roll before drinking - it moves the tasty sediment through the beer and unlocks our Coopers signature flavour. Cheers 🍻
I had a sense of nostalgia the moment this video cut to a scene inside of Geordie. I love Poem but Geordie is the soul of this show. I hope to see her being the main feature again soon. P.S. Andrea did in fact do the correct thing with turning the beer. South Aussie here and Coopers were my favourite beers for many years. For best results, gently roll the bottle once out twice over on its side before opening. The sparkling ale is especially good extra cold at the end of a hot summer's day.
I second your approval of Andrea mixing the sediment in. Well done Andrea! Coopers Sparkling Ale is a favourite of mine too, Coopers Pale, not so much. (I'm a Kiwi, btw) I find that slowly rotating the bottle end over end a few times before opening works better than rolling it, and It helps if you first leave the bottle on it's side for a while. Before pouring each glass I gently swirl it again to keep the lees in suspension. I'd like to see Peter try a Little Creatures Pale Ale, my favourite when I lived in WA and I know he would love it, even though Andrea might not!.
Yes! Although we are very comfortable and appreciative of Poem these days, Geordie is the flagship. Now that's Poem's ready for winter, we will be focusing our energies on advancing her. Thanks for the tip, the comment and your continued support of the show!
It's been wonderful how many people are familiar with Coopers and were able to give good guidance on how to prepare it, including Cooper's Brewery themselves, who have commented here. I'll keep an eye out for Little Creatures Pales Ale!
@@TravelsWithGeordie I was at a "food fair" in Perth, Western Australia about 15 years ago. To get around alcohol licensing laws, tickets were being sold for "samples" of various drinks, and I bought 10 of them, intending to sample a few Margaret River wines. Then I saw the Little Creatures Brewery stall, and was struck by the odd name. Who on Earth would be attracted to try a beer called Little Creatures? My curiosity piqued, I tried their Pale Ale, then used the remaining 9 tickets for 9 more of them! The brewery has since been bought by a multinational, but the recipe hasn't been changed.
Always good to see you, Peter, but, OMG, your “Visit to the workshop” reminds me waaaay too much of my own Utility Room, with its notorious Stack O’ Boxes (tm) Filing System!!! “Not complaining, just explaining,” as a friend of mine says. 😉 Carry on, my friend! Thanks so much Andy! Haven't quite finalized plans yet, but am exited about the options. Thanks for your comment and for your continued support of the show! Cheers!
Keep at it Peter, it's looking better with each application. By the way, I noticed that Poem has an Official Number carved into the starboard indicating that she may have been a "yank" in her past. What was interesting to me was her number is only 308 boats "newer" than our FREYA that is 239563...the oldest documented vessel=with that name-in USCG registry. We raise an IPA to Poem and her owners!

I am glad you have things don't go right & you don't just edit them out. Real person, real building. When we are in the workshop with all the flash gear its easy, but out on the job you only got the few tools you bring with you & they are not always the perfect tool for the job.

I know that you have a lifetime of experience with handtools Peter. But even so cutting the edge off of the larger circle with the circular saw free hand like that was for adults only. I'm sure the new fo’c’sle will look great and that you will have an excellent solution for the chain locker.
Good morning Peter, I am gradually working may way through your videos, but still have a couple of years to go before I catch up (still in COVID). Anyway, when watching the haul out video, I started to wonder what you use for anode protection in this galvanised steel fastened boat. If you use zinc anodes, surely these do not offer protection against corrosion of the fastenings because the zinc in the anode will have similar galvanic potential to the the zinc on the outside of the fastenings. Does this mean that you use aluminium anodes? Cheers
Hi Peter, I used to owner companies that washes down houses and we would use chlorine and sugar soap. Sugar soap is fantastic. If you got any spiders puts a film around the web and see you enough to wash away. The chlorine will instantly kill any mould. Anyway you do it the way you want to do it no use one man telling another man what to do. You’ve got your big boy pants on , always enjoy the videos , Cliff from Logan city, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 I’m on the big island 🏝️
I've had great luck with hot water and borax. Cleaned the inside of my wooden boat last winter and no mold has returned. With the added ceilings in the folksole, how do you plan to have adequate ventilation to prevent the return of mold behind them?
Magnificent idled hawsepipe! Any time I have left chain in the water for long periods , the chain was not the same afterwards. Perhaps, your focsle could be chain locker and a head. Some how the Beatles came to mind to while you where shifting the chain. “ Boy ,you’re going to carry that weight …“
Does anyone use a cylindrical chain storage device? Something akin to the extension cord in a five gallon pail method. The fo’c’sle is an exciting project.
Very interesting that you mention that Tim! I am currently seeking a tall plastic cylinder as that will certainly alleviate castling concerns as well as provide a solution for capturing mud, etc. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Hi Daniel! Poem is our home for the meantime and efforts to maintain her and make her comfortable are timely. But stay tuned, now that Poem is safe for the winter, Geordie will be my main focus. Cheers!
Tilex Tub and Shower is what I use to get rid of mold, and it can be found just about everywhere too. It will bleach and sanitize the surface, like bleach does, but it also prevents mold from growing back. Not quite a year like borax, but a month was pretty normal. In the video you didn't show the borax application in the fo'c'sle. Would you kindly share your "yearly-magic" formula and application method?
I really enjoy your craftsmanship and ingenuity, but it would drive me nuts to not have the time to finish things the way I really wanted……I guess that is part of wooden boat space and time continuum!
Thanks Cyril! It's more the result of finite time and funds. It's hard to manage meaningful progress with realistic expectations. Thanks for your support and for watching! Cheers!
Take a plastic barrel plus a galvanized metal grill, cut the bottom 10 centimeters off the barrel and use the offcut to catch the water/debris from the chain once that bottom part gets filled with gunk it will be easy to empty overboard. Good luck
Peter, in addition to protecting your lungs, cover your eyes. I used Spray 9 on my patio deck cover, having sprayed the Spray 9 and then washing off with a garden hose., I ended up burning my eye balls which meant a hospital visit and subsequent Ophthalmic visit the next day. No permanent damage but I learned the lesson.
Borax is banned in the European Union on account of it inhibiting fertility. That might be worth knowing in the US ( if you are young enough that it matters). Though UK is no longer in EU it seems not to be available in UK either.
Why did you place those deck plugs from the top? Surely you could have placed them from below and ended up with a nice flush finish. I'm sure there's reasoning in what you were doing but its not obvious from the video
You are very right - there is a reason. There would be no way to adequately seal the hole from below or even flush taking into account the deck is seamed with cotton and paying. The caps I've installed blend in quite nicely. Thanks for your comment for for watching. Cheers!
@@TravelsWithGeordie Forgot about the cotton paying. That's makes the difference and now I totally agree with your decision. there's usually a reason for choices made, but they are not always obvious when watching a video
