Behringer Pro-1 vs Model D vs K-2 part 2 Filters and Modulation

- Filters and modulation of the three machines and added the Neutron to the mix at 05:21 minutes. I did add a bit of a 'tribal' club groove just as an accent to give it a little drive. The main thing is the differnce in character of the three machines (or four if you include the Neutron)
INSTANT SUBSCRIPTION! Thanks for using your synths to talk about synths, most people use their mouths which is actually counter-intuitive.
Thanks 😊
Yes. 100% I’m so sick of people trying to be ‘influencers’ they don’t realize we’re not here for them we’re here for the synths!
This is how to do comparison videos! Take each instrument and make it shine as best it can in the track. That K-2 can really do the 303 thing and a whole lot more. You rock 🤘
Thanks so much for doing this! I learned a lot more about the character of each of these great designs by hearing your filter comparisons. Almost a sonic wine tasting, if you will. 🙂
The best of all is the Nikkor 105 mm and the BASF tape kit in the background ... nice taste and nice demo !
Thanks for noticing the details;-)
no te fijaste tambien en la marca de gallumbos? xD
K-2 sounds fantastic! It’s so funny that we all do the “jumper” to disable the internal routing of the distortion. 😂
most standard neutron patch for sure. it's actually a decent sounding synth with the distortion disabled.
Please make more videos, they're excellent. I miss them!
Can't decide...get them all!
Made In Machines Which was what I did - never regretted it a second.
@@thomaskolb8785 I do not understand the meaning of made in machines...Did you buy the four?... What do you think now? Which one better for melodic techno?
All 4 cost less than almost any vintage synth. Thanks Behringer for making music affordable
That's 4 synths we're talking about.
This leaves me more confused, because I want only one of them, but don't know which one to get :)
@@han1218 Just go with what sound most speaks to you! Limitation just encourages creativity.
This was a fantastic showcase of the various Behringer synth models. The tune was great!! Awesome beat. Thanks for the video!!
This was a really great comparison, and really appreciate the Neutron being in the mix, too. Keep looking at the K2, but this shows I might just need to get better with my Neutron ;P
I see this in the side bar with a red line underneath so I know I’ve watched it before but can’t quite remember so click anyway, then .003 seconds in recognise the tune and go “Oh Yes this one “ just superb. I know some will say oh it’s just another repetitive loop but it’s so much more than that.. Imo it’s fecking brilliant.👏
Wow thanks for the compliment;-) really happy that it’s appreciated
@@RobertIverMusicIt is. As much as I'm interested in these comparisons and reviews in general, some are hard to watch and listen to, because it's just random fiddling.
This is actually music. Just like JHS' guitar pedal reviews. I could watch and listen just for the music they make.
One of the few video's showing the unique character of this little beast, making me to buy it just now :-)
The overhead shadows look dope! To go with the sick sounds.
Best sounding synth demo I have heard online. Love them all. Exactly the kind of sounds that I am looking for
this video made me more confused, I want them all haha
Luckily, all of them together still costs less than most synths.
That was awesome! Such great sounds! I only have the Pro1 so cannot compare, but this was a really useful and great sounding demo of the different "clones" that you can get from Behringer.
No problem to Change this, order further more Behringer Synthesizers, 🤣🤣🤣🤸🤸🤸nö need to be a millionare
Such a useful comparison. Great job!
Awesome presentation. Especially to compare with the Neutron, thanks a lot.
Would love to see your contrasting them all against the B-2600. This is interesting, but for me would be even more interesting when the B-2600 is added.
Owning three out of and watching this has inspired me greatly, great video 🫶🏻
Thanks, which do you use?
All my kit is Behringer, apart from a Korg sequencer. Relating to your video, I have the Pro 1, the K2 and the Neutron. I have 2 TD3, one modded one not, the RD6 and the Crave. They’re scattered around the house at the moment as I’m reworking my workspace on top of being ill it’s not going too well.
Everyday I change my mind which I like best and after watching another vid on here I’m looking for a D. I guess I just like dials and buttons. My opinion still stands, your video is one of the best I’ve seen, good presentation and given at the right pace. 🫶🏻
I’d like a RD6.
Really good. Nicely done. Just been playing with my neutron...endless possibilities, especially when you add fx pedals...the other synths sound gr8 too.......think i will have to add at least one of them
I got my Neutron about a month ago and it's fucking great. I needed a warmer analog synth to compliment my more metallic/cold-sounding analog and digital synths, the Korg Minilogue, Volca Modular + FM, Wavestation, Novation Circuit, Casio CZ-101, although the last 2 can certainly have a warmer tone as well.
The patch bay is extensive enough that I am surprised by it each time I go nuts with my cables. Although, I do kinda wish Behringer included more than 6 cables. Stackables from Tiptop Audio are almost necessary, lol. I hope my 16 cables and 7 stackable cables are sufficient to get the most out of it.
Of the 3 the K-2 was really winning it for me. I love it's anger. But then you brought in that Neutron. Wow, what a sound. :)
Well all 4 have their pro's but for me personally at least the Neutron would be on the list
Neutron has pro 1 osc , it has an ms like filter ( without the dirt) an a low end of the moog plus patchpanel , in other words it kind of is a jack of all trades
Imo
1. Model D
2. Pro 1
3. Neutron
4. K 2
Great comparison, thanks.
I would place k2 at the top
K2 on Top, agree. Unique Sound.
My list would be almost the inverse of yours, hehe. I love how we all hear differently and appreciate different details!
this is dope. they all sound great.
When someone does some test sounds… that could easily be an absolutely banging track!
Thanks sir ;-)
Amazing production quality on the video, I like this doesn't make you want one, but all of em even if they are behringers...
I can't be the only one Nodding my head of to the demo man, propper good heavy track!
Wow I think the neutron was my favorite. Wasn’t expecting that.
It's my least and it's the only one I own, i really dislike the filter on it
Those are all great little synths for not a whole lot of $$$. Each definitely has its own character, its own set of strengths. I hesitate to say "and weaknesses" because none of them are really weak!
BTW, I really do like your Neutron's overlay. I bought one for mine too, a more colorful Grandmother-type design. I didn't really hate the original red, but the guy who does these overlays -- Heinakroon -- is in my opinion an artistic genius.
Yes Andreas makes great overlays and is a very kind dude. He did send me a few other overlays to 'try out'.
Wow. For less than a grand, you could have all four. And with the various I/O options, you could (as but one example) take the Neutron’s raw oscillators, run them thru the Model D’s ladder filter, then send them back to run thru the Neutron’s processors.
Thanks for sharing this. I like your dexterity in moving from synth to synth. I have a Model D and a Neutron and hope that I can emulate some of this dexterity.
Thanks you!
Is it worth to have the two.. I only have model D... Why neutron also?...They are not very similar?. Would love to hear your feedback.
If I could have only one, for my music it still would be the D. The Neutron is for me the perfect companion. Just because it's really different and more experimental. Not just for the patch bay. More variance in oscillators, lovely digital LFO. Only thing missing is 'that' Moog filter sound. Hence the choice. But don't get me wrong. I would be happy only with the Neutron. It just depends on your style of music you like to make.
@@RobertIverMusic Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, both the Model D and the Neutron are wonderful synths. I understand the "Moog" sound and how one could choose the D over the N. One reason I chose the Neutron is that it can play two notes (paraphonic mode) at the same time and I use a lot of two note chords (mainly D and A). They do work well together and I have watched a lot of videos of some very wonderful compositions with both of them. I am downsizing to a very specific set of synths and modules.
Nice comparision Video! Good to hear the Real differences! Super, they are all worth the money. More and more people get a more or less pur Behringer Synthesizer Studio, because they are great!
you are so good. beautiful music
Well thank you;-)
This just makes me want all three and to be honest they're cheap enough that I might end up with all three.
Loving these synth demos man!!! Subbed!
Their best products are the ones that are not cloned!! Neutron is Fire 🔥! Seriously considering a Crave.
I love my Crave, but it is a Moog Mother 32 clone if that is an issue.
@@K.KILLORAN Get both, Steal the LFO's from neutron when not in use for the crave. with a little help my crave stays on full time base duty. saves me time from having to learn the part on six-string
Verry nice demo 🎉
Killer type of comparison vid 👏👏
Cool riff!
SYNTH TERROR DOME Weirdly like a friendly but aggressive break dancing contest between the devices.
😁
Neutron sounds like a monster!
Love the angry k2 the most❤️
EXXELENT demo...thanks for bringing in the Neutron 💚
awesome overview ,love the riff
The neutron has a very unique signature, I highly recommend pairing a neutron with a 303 or drum synth. It is a deep instrument.
Indeed, I could not agree more.
The dual resonant filters really set the k2 apart for me.
Crazy mad; best B-Synth comparison I've watched in awhile, maybe ever.
I have a Neutron on backorder and this reinforces my decision to order it before the price hike. I just ordered a K-2 (also on back order) after watching this. My least favorite of the lot here is the Pro-1 which I ordered a week ago, should arrive tomorrow, and I'm now not so sure about it. Of the lot, the Pro-1 sounded very "meh". The Nuetron and K-2 are the winners here, IMO.
I'm off to search your vids to see if you've got anything on the Behringer Cat. I've been experimenting with mine since it was delivered on Saturday; it's a generative gem.
Neutron is crazy versatile. The lfo will act as a adsr to shape the sound. I love it!
Hi ! 2y after, what's your pref and intended for what use ? All the best
Excellent comparison, thank you!
Great vid and demo of these synths. I think the Neutron stole the show in this session, although I am sure the other others could be played to the same level ...
I used to sort of make fun of Behringer, but they've been killing it now for several years. Thinking about a Crave and a K-2 as my next purchases.
I don’t have the Crave but the K-2 has character!
Thanks for that amazing demo !
Thanks 🙏
The Neutron is the deepest one (sonically) of all three by leaps and bounds.
Bro this was crazy, thank you for putting the time to make this 🙏. Where did you get that skin for the Neutron?
great comparison of the bunch. The D sounds very 'mature' and the loudest, low-end cuts better (in this example)through that heavy kick even though K is more aggressive. Neutron sounds more like modern modular to me. No brainer the young people will choose the K
Younger person here, yes I would go for the K2, but this is because I feel I can replicate the majority of the features of the other modules with virtual synths. Quality of signal is a different matter altogether. Bang for buck, for my particular projects must be on the K2 screamy-ness
Excellent video, thanks!
At last, someone who knows what they're doin' .
I have all of these except the Pro-1. Of the small one I like the Neutron the most and have two of them in a rack with a Model D.
But my favorite Behringer clone is the 2600. But I'm prejudiced; I used to own the ARP
I wouldn’t mind to check the 2600 ;-)
Banger!!!
Thanks 😎
Very very nice!
...and SUBSCRIBE. Honestly dude, great comparison. Thank-you.
Thanks for the sub!!
Where was the string sound coming from at 7:25 ?
Omnisphere ;-)
the way they modulates their oscilattors are prety different.....so....they have its own possibilities of crafting sounds
exciting stuff, thank you Sir
I shouldn’t have watched this, lol. I have a neutron and a model D, which are great, but now I have to get a K-2.
Whaaaa, the horror....
Same thing here !!
Pro1 gets no respect :(. You guys need to habe an original to love the pro1
nice one
"Angry" is a good term for the K-2. A lot of the earlier Japanese synths had this quality. Aggresive and bold. (not that that is a bad thing sometimes. but it would be nice to tame it sometimes) That's what the Model D and Minimoog can do. They can go from sweet to ripping. The Pro 1 is almost as good as the Model D. Cheers
Lately I’m torn between the Model D and the Pro-1. Both are so easy to use.
@@RobertIverMusic Yes, easy and rewarding. A lot of suble tones and shapes from both those synths. The envelopes on the Model D are fantastic and flexible. I hope everyone can get a chance to really get to know this under rated synth. You have a great channel. Really enjoying your "experiments" thanks
where did you get this dark-version neutron? good review bro, congrats
The manufacturer has stopped shipping these sadly
Thats a layover. Its not factory. Its a skin.
Wow!
Such a good vid, haven’t checked out any of your others yet, but I love this format, it’s like Top Gear but with Synths! 😁 …and I think they all sounded great, l liked the K2 a lot, and the Neutron looks like a lot of fun.
Why is yours not Red?
Is that a custom face or a Ltd edition?
I like it a lot.
It's a faceplate overlay (skin). Lots of (overpriced) aftermarket ones available for many synths - especially synths manufactured in obnoxious colours without a factory black version available.
Do the LOW CUT FREQ and HIGH CUT FREQ knobs are looser than the rest and feels less smooth on the touch on K-2? I returned one for that reason and the replacement K-2 also has the same knobs
No problems here. I do have one of the first runs so no idea if something has changed meanwhile.
@@RobertIverMusic Thanks for the response. Mine gets also warm in the middle quite fast but I guess because it's analog. Awesome jam by the way. Subscribed for more :)
thank you for this!
Great Vid !
Thanks Trash Can? ;-)
;)
The fact that the jam sounded cool as shit all the way through indicates you really can't make a wrong choice here... whichever one you pick is gonna be a blast.
I have Neutron, K2 and Cat so far... love them all. Neutron is my fave though, Cat a close 2nd. Next up I'm planning to get the D, but eventually I'm just gonna collect them all and make a wall of Behringer synths.
You’re full of great ideas;-)
The Cat is for sure on the list. But the NYX and Matriarch damn.....
@@RobertIverMusic The one I really want is the Pulsar 23. But $1800 after shipping... Just can't afford it. Would have to make that my only synth purchase for a whole year. I need a bigger income, lol.
Beast mode drums, I get it. Yes please ;-)
What do you think of the Cat after having it a while? I am on the fence about getting it. The filter sounds interesting.
Thanks for the compare-o.
Suggestion:
I know this isn't a scientific, but more of an 'in context' demo of each in an EDM rhythm section. You might want to include that in the description or title.
The trouble is hearing the transients: Having both kick AND bass jacked from the get-go and at once introduces Frequency-Masking, further exacerbated by YT's compression algo.
Here any clue to each synth's amp and filters first 10-30ms of EG response is "cloaked" by the kickdrum.
I found it interesting that the Pro One sounded smaller than the others and that the Neutron sounded so big, nearly as girth-y as the D. Usually a Pro One hangs right there with a minimoog and edges it in aggression. An OG Pro One slams the VCA input - not unlike how a guitar amp behaves when a booster pedal is active in-line between the amp input and guitar - resulting in a massive 'bulging' compression and roaring characteristic.
Wish folks like you would show and explain the drums. Great but hidden.
I’ll keep it in mind next time around. Thanks for the ‘tip’.
If I were to guess, I'd say Neutron is your favorite for its versatility .. followed by Model D for its fundamentals. ?
Any plans to get a B 2600? I only have Neutron and DM12, sticking with their unique synths so far -- but the only thing holding me back on any of their clones is that I gotta keep enough room available for their upcoming VCS and Buchla Easel clones ! Those (and maybe) 2600 are dream fuel for me.
Well yes. And the b2600 is in so maybe soon ….
Would love to hear ALL 3 LAYERED!! I guess I have to buy them £600 lol ok done !
Impressive 👍
Great video! makes it even harder for me to decide wich one to choose first. I mean how do you guys pick between this amazing line-up? Neutron, Model-D, Pro-1, K-2, WASP, and now also CAT...They can all do their own trick but also some overlap between them in my opinion. I would like to create space / ambient / dungeon synth stuff. Help a noob out ;) thanks!
It depends if you like a more ‘vintage’ sound, rounded and drones. Then the Pro-1 and the D would be my favorite. If a little more experimental then the 20 or a Neutron.
For more ambience I'd go with one with a duophonic mode so you can drone, etc. To my knowledge that's only the pro 1 and cat
Well and the odyssey
Vicious track!
And if you had to choose just one?
The D. The neutron would be a close second. I just need ‘that’ D sound.
I just launch up this video once in a while to dance.
Ya, the K-2 filter is probably aggressive when you plug the output into the ESP and put it back into the filter. :)
Yes, luckily it has an attenuator ;-)
Ah I see. It looked like the external inputs were turned up in the filter section. Though it's hard to see the tiny knobs. Though I like the yellow motif Behringer did. I recognized the patch because it's one of my favorite patches on the ms20. But I just use the amp on the ESP and go directly into the Total input for a super grungy overdrive. mmm It sounds so good!
Wie schleifst du denn in alle Geräte den selben Rhythmus ein?
I did record one midi lead track in my daw (logic). After that it is a proces of recording one full track of each synth and then I just mute the parts I don’t like but this time in fcpx. Then I export one wav with a click countdown back into lpx. A little mixing and finished.
excellent !
Folk with Pro 1... does it stay in tune?
Mine does
@@RobertIverMusic thanks for the reply
love your videos, great sound
Thanks, my pleasure!
Awesome, man
K2 = BoC, Model D=Funky, Pro-1=Dark wave. Am I far off? (: Thanks for the great comparisson, off to buy the K2!!
BoC ;-) And indeed, the D is funky but maybe it's the fact that we're used to 'that' sound being used on all the classic tracks.
@@RobertIverMusic True, I've seen amazing ambient stuff on all of these synths! Just collected my K2 with a custom faceplate. I'm in the looking-at-it-terrified-phase, but can't wait to explore it fully. Comparable to buying a beautiful 1500 page book.
Hey where can i get the nice faceplate you have on your Neutron ?
Heinakroon.net
I finally understand the feeling DJs get when they have to move. How can you be still here?
I have to, otherwise the footage would be shaky;-)
@@RobertIverMusic the fact that you don't have a background dancer is criminal. But seriously nice set
Are you adding in the percussion from another source?
Yes, some LPX tracks
Thanks, Robert!!! 👍 So much more insight into what these synths _are_ than in most of the review-and-demo video so far. An excellent idea to include the Neutron!
Me as a complete synth-noob, I'm currently exploring three Behringers, the Neutron, the WASP DELUXE, and the PRO-1. While I was sure I'd love the PRO-1 (loopop's review rocks!), it turned out that I prefer the Neutron by (insert exaggerating comparative term of your preference here). The ‒ IMHO underrated ‒ WASP in turn aims at a totally different audience than the people taken care of by the rest of Behringer's analog synth line. I like its flexible sound capabilities and particularly enjoy the looping option in the EGs. Achieve nice rhythmic elements just by turning the rightmost knob to its Repeat position and fiddling with the Attack and Decay to get a driving pulse in your tunes! Ever tried one yourself? Highly recommended!
And last but not least, I am happy to let you know I actively assistied you on your way to reach the 4,000 subscriber mark 😊
Hi Manfred, I’ve not had the pleasure of trying out the WASP. I heard it kind of resembles the ARP Odyssey (one I do own) but I don’t really know. The demos online sound great. These little budget synths by Behringer all sound quite vintage and ballsy to me so no complaints there;-). The looping capability is something I really love on my Subsequent 37 (not really a budget synth :-)) so I understand what you mean. Thanks a lot for your kind and lengthy comment!
neutron does need dedicate vco volume control, the osc mix knob is not so useful. model d does have the fattest and warmest sound overall.
I agree with your Neutron comments. The D and the Pro 1 have a warmer ‘feel’ indeed.
Great video, great sounds. I'm considering the Model D and the Neutron as my first synths. Can you play them simultaneously with the Keystep or would you need to have the Keystep Pro in order to play a separate sequence on each?
If I could choose two it would be these two. You need the keystep pro....
@@RobertIverMusic Thanks for reply. I'm also thinking about the Erebus V3, I really liked your neutron 'vs' video with the Erebus. Seems like the Erebus could cover some of the same ground.
You could with Keystep, but you would be limited to one synth playing a step sequence (up to 64 steps) whilst playing along 'live' with the other synth. So yeah a Keystep Pro if you want to be properly programming both synths.
@@lucacycles8623 how about the keystep 37?
^ this!?
Where did you get the skin for the newtron? I dig the color separation.
Heinakroon.net
Super
Nice
ooooooooo! if you could only choose one, which one would it be? Also, where's the base line and drum beat being generated - within a daw?
If only one, then the D would be it. Followed by the Neutron. It’s a personal choice. I love the old and maybe ‘boring’ 24 dB filter to much. But I would be as happy with only the Neutron.
DAW is Logic Pro x. Standard drum kit.
The strings starting at min 7 are coming from one of the semi modulars or is that backing track? Also is there a way to create similar sound using analogue gear?
Hi, it’s a Heavyocity string library. It’s playing along with the drum track. You could make something similar with an analog synth. Little bit different vibe...
It's a bit sad that Neutron doesn't have four oscillators! It's very experimental when you're using it but having more oscillators (of the same type) would be much greater. I can't say that it sounds "not powerful" :)) But with more of these it could sound 2-3x greater!
You can set the LFO to key track and patch it into the VCF to use as a 3rd oscillator... sounds badass. I also really like to have the LFO modulating the filter while also serving as an oscillator... tuned filter modulation is a really cool and gnarly effect.
@@gnarlysoundscapes7210 I can't update Neutron :)
Maybe we will get a higher note paraphonic Neutron soon, like the D
is that some sort of skin for the Neutron? isn't it usually red?
Yes and indeed....
@@RobertIverMusic So where do you get this skin for neutron?.. I do not like in red.
