Behringer Model D vs Behringer Pro-One,Which One?

- Behringer Model D or Behringer Pro-One,which one should I get? i get asked this question a lot owning both the Model D and Pro-One from Behringer. In this video I'll talk about what I feel are the biggest differences in the machines and what might make you choose one over the other synthesizer wjile sharing segments of previous videos with sounds from these machines.
A live synthesizer jam which used Behringer Model D for bass and Behringer Pro-One for resonate style synth sequence ends the video.
I honestly love both machines and what they bring to the table but understand some people might only want one mono synthesizer or might be picking one up now and another up later because of funds. I'll be doing another Behringer Model D vs Behringer Model D with no talking and comparing various wave forms and filters with 100% dry settings so keep a eye out for that video in the future.
I created a group on Facebook that focuses on Behringer synthesizers and the users who use them everyday. Behrigner Synthesizer Club House will be a fun place to share your passion for Behringer synths so feel free to join, I'm the Admin.

Which one to get with Neutron because I want something almost as POWERFUL than Neutron IS but with a possibility to play like some -80's and early -90's Synth sounds without patch-cable connections(I have enough that on Neutron),like just connect with some other Behringer Analog Synth to Arturia keystep MIDI keyboard controller???
I am really digging a lot of those sounds you play out from Pro-1 and because I am Industrial music person....maybe that would be The right choice....but still thinking because there are now over 100€'s cheaper models like CAT and Toro from Behringer available.....🤔🤔🤔
The Model D is an ancient murky, woody, dark forest with glittering ponds and stray sunlight through the foliage.
The Pro-One is a shiny, brass machine with rivets and cogwheels, hissing steam and a fiery red glow inside.
Decide which one appeals to you the most. You can't go wrong with any on them, they are both super-synthesizers.
I agree !
I have the sequential pro one so this is probably biased, but i think i like the sound of the pro one better. Once you figure out the knobs and switches on it, it becomes a fat synth lead with a funky oscillator.
Sehr schön geschrieben :-)
Which is the one that transmits human memories to the Andromeda Galaxy, in a split second to be engulfed by a blue orb to be then spun around in perpetual waves of infinite dynamic pulses (asking for a friend)
DeepMind 12
what an awesome description Thomas!
Model D - the gentle FAT dude you know since childhood
Pro 1 - the outgoing leather jacket dude that enjoys a couple of beers and the ladies and you like to hangout with for fun.
facts !
I have the Pro-1, it has great oskillators.
you know this!
hell yea
Lol
oskillators for the win
This video was so helpful in my decision making, I wound up purchasing the Pro-1 and couldn't be happier. It's the centerpiece of my synth setup and provides me with so many diverse exploration paths. I'm looking forward to expanding its capabilities even further with some modulation and utility modules in a small eurorack rig. Thanks for all that you do, it's deeply appreciated.
What modules are you using with your Pro-1?? I've been on the fence between it and the Neutron.
I have both. They can sound awesome layered together!
I think so too!
I was thinking to layer d with pro800. Totally new on the subject. Just discovered em
Nice sound demos, especially the outro tune! Pro 1 is definitely on my next-to-get list ... .
Thank you for checking out the content
I only came back to listen to this piece of music again. ❤it.
Thank you for the useful information! I am choosing my very first hardware synth, and videos like this are very helpful.
The answer is both considering their cost. Just my opinion. I run a KVGear rack with the Model D, Pro-1, K-2 and control them with an NI S49. Too much fun.
Best demos out there. Such a great explanation! Thank you sir
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the support
To your question I reply "both and also a K-2 (if one can." because that's what I have.
Very cool video !
Nice ! You have a good day too !
Have been asking myself the same question this week since I'm on the brink of bying either one. I've been leaning towards the model D and after your video I'm sure of it. Ordered! Thank you so much for this video.
Right on! glad it helped
great music, Thanks. I just bought the pro 1. love it looking for other stuff to join it now.
Enjoy! Great synth
Exactly what I was wondering. Thanks!
Glad to help!
Layering pulse with another wave shape on the pro1 really shines when you turn on the PWM, giving the oscillator stability AND evolving sound. I wish the LFO could go just a tad slower however.
It’s a lovely synth !
Synth Bard, That's where the patch points come in handy, you can patch in a slower lfo from elsewhere.
I brought the Neutron first and the following week the Model D. The Pro 1 and K2 had not hit the market yet (at least in the U.S.) but my plan was to make my next purchase the K2. Behringer is on point with these semi-modulars, I have learned a lot about modular patching and how to create sounds without using synthesizers with presets.
What would You suggest to buy after Neutron?I Make Industrial Death noisy stuff......but I do it like very Experimental way......so now I would love to get something from Behringer without actually any of those patch cdble-connections,just to onnect that to My Arturia keystep MIDI keyboard controller and Turn some knobs and get POWERFUL(but also kind of clear sounds also, and -80's style Synth sounds out from that),In this video Pro-1 sounds great but in some videos.....not so great.....and there are about 100€/USD cheaper models also available like CAT and Toro......so please, you have experienced buying many after getting Neutron first like me,so what's next(for My kind of stuff)???
@valkoinenoulu5530 keep in mind both the nuetron and pro 1 have the same CEM 3340 oscillator chips. They sound pretty aggressive imo. The pro 1 was the first of the desktops I got and now have neutron, Model d, wasp and pro 1 and they're all great. If you're looking for something a little more aggressive the pro 1 is probably ideal. The model d is a classic in its own right and has a three oscillators. You can get real fat and rich sounds from any of them but if you're looking for aggressive probably pro 1 with the 3340s. The patch points make it extra fun with other gear I almost always use the pro 1 and neutron together. They're what got me into modular. It's a gateway beware 😅
a great comparison A/B look at the two units .
I think one of each would make for a perfect pair .
Your relaxed presentation and clarity is refreshing.
Very useful video! Oskillator is killing me tho xD
LOL, it really has a effect on people =)
That Pro-One halfway through the video was 🤌
Beginning at 9:50 what app are you using for your loops. And interesting in the beginning you are saying the Model D is best for leads but here you are using the Pro-One as your lead,.. correct?
At that point I would think Korg Gadget
Great video thanks. Been toying with the idea of getting a Pro 1 to go with the Model d for ages. There's definitely room for both synths in the studio. That mix at the end sold it for me. Superb techno house track. 👏
Nicely done. I'm right at that very moment, trying to pick Pro-1 od Model D.
Still on the fence, but appreciate your video.
Ok, you convinced me... I'll buy both
Gratz !
I like how you have the performance at the end. I've got a upright stand on the way for my Neutron. Gonna put it over the back of my Brute 2S.
Thank you !
You pretty much got me sold on the trifecta. Pro-1, Neutron, Model D
I did add effects on this video but that’s pretty much needed for for analog without effects to fully explore the potential of the synth
Excellent jam on the end!
Thank you !
I have the Model D and Neutron, I need a Pro-1. Great vid.
Thank you !
I am in exactly the same situation and know this feeling 😂
i love my model-d. i want all of these synths lol. and i have a bunch already.
Thank you very much! I'm still torn between them so I'll probably get both (or perhaps the Poly D) at some point and maybe also a Crave. Also, I have 7 synths already. Is that too many?
Lol, well if you only use 2 of them, then it is too many probably yes
In a certain context, you can never have too many. It's all about having fun and exploring your creativity.
Could listen that all day! Inspiring stuff. Thank you.
Means a lot. Thank you 🙏
i think the phrase you're looking for is "no brainer"
thanks for the comparison. very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Great vid! Thanks for taking the time out to make it. Gotta say I disagree with the statement that they’re at the same level of “patching” unless you mean CV patching. The Pro 1 has way more mod routing options and can do more. I’m a lot more free to use the programming tricks I’m familiar with with the Pro 1. With the Boog I’m pretty handcuffed. The raw oscs on the Boog are just sick though. Glad you mentioned PWM, man oh man... if the Model D had PWM it would be awesome. Can’t go wrong with either. I’m leaning towards liking the Pro 1 over the Boog, but I’ve had the Boog longer. Killer track at the end man. Well done!!!
Do some detuning of oscilators and you’ve got pwm stile effect.
@@LukezyM true this gives you a little bit of the PWM vibe, but I'll take a nice LFO to modulate PW. It really makes the oscs sing. There are other tricks or workarounds to the Model D for sure; but the mod matrix is pretty extensive with the Pro One given its such a simple synth. Best part is, given the price there's no reason to only buy one or the other. Pretty great time to be a synthhead.
Yes you get a little more within pro one but nothing like K2 or neutron. I had them more in mind when thinking of deep patching
@@toddsmithmusic3172 Would you say the K-2 or the Neutron have deeper patching capabilities? I know the Neutron wins from the perspective of sending signals out to other gear, however, I'm curious about which one is more diverse in a self patching sense.
Which one is better for synthwave and acid psytrance?
To me, Model D is funk, instant 70's, while the Pro-1 is dark, Depeche Mode, etc. I love them both, and my 2600, too! :)
Wow, that was a great jam at the end!
Thank you !
i got the model d myself and borrowed the pro-1 from a friend a while ago, love them both. funny i randomly find a comparison of the two hehe
I realy love the music you've played between 5:34 to 7:42. Did you released it ? I'd love to buy it on bandcamp in lossless !!
Very interesting! Thank you. I already ordered the Model D, and i'm interested in the Pro-1 too lol
Glad it was helpful!
This is phenomenal Todd!
Thank you my friend !
Nice review and very cool music for the finish ! Great sounds and tune !!!
Nice video. Got the Pro1, Model D and K2... reckon they are all on par with each other for special abilities. No room for more keyboards & so wish they build an Odyssey in the same format.
Good choice!
There's the 2600 But I think it's as big as an odyssey
I got both. Between them and everything available on Logic Pro, I'm set for synths.
Nice. What and how many sequencers are being used? What are the drum sounds coming from? Thanks.
Nice video man. Just one important point to make. You have a delay effecting the sound of the Model D and a long shimmer Reverb over the Pro-1. It would have been more useful to show their natural sound without processing.
Totally. Videos that say "this is what 'x' sounds like' but aren't recording them raw basically aren't being honest
I love effects, but doesn't anyone make demos without them?
Great video! And now, with the Behringer Poly D, you've got four oscillators instead of just the three, plus a keyboard and chorus. Oh, and paraphony if you want it.
Good call!
The intro track was dope!
Nice vid! Wicked outro jam!!!
Hands down.
Glad you liked it!
Love both ... Great job my friend ! Keep it up !
Both are amazing, thank you !
I couldn't decide so I bought both. I am reluctant to buy the WASP and CAT though, because even though they are great, I'd rather be focused on a few pieces of gear. It's all my brain can cope with!
Ive also contemplated the wasp since it dropped to Volca Price in europe. Though I also dont wanna have too much synth clutter
That tune starting at 9:58, man that's dark....are you sequencing out of that keyboard and then running the audio back into a mixer for recording? Sounds great!
Korg Gadget is do all the sequencing via ipad
KB is just a midi controller
@@toddsmithmusic3172 Cool. Then what instrument is making those string like sounds in the melody you play?
Many thanks for presenting this comparison. I ultimately want both of these synths as there simply an AMAZING bargain that will give me access to synths I thought would always be out of my price range. Being a musician that has to hold a day job, I have to grab them one at a time and this little video has helped me to decide which synth I really want first, so many thanks. I'd love to know your opinion on Behringers other synth releases which look simply incredible and now there even going to release a modern version of the classic ARP 2600 synth. I've had Behringer equipment in the past and still use there Truth monitors, they truly are an incredible company that bring out really amazing quality equipment at a fraction of the competitors and as these synths are illustrating, it's top notch. Thanks again.
Great review...love jam at the end....very Gary Numan....
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
@@toddsmithmusic3172 I've read reviews and watched a number of vids on the tuning issue which the Model D generally seems to suffer from. Have you found this an issue, is it noticeable or is it just 1 of those things Model D & Minimoog owners just put up with and tune when required?
Ok, ok, after some time and watching a few of your videos I finally decided to subscribe, even though I hate that K in oscillator.
It'll grow on yea =) Glad you enjoyed the content enough to sub my friend
I was deciding between the K-2 or the Pro-1. Nuff said....Pro-1 sounds Awesome!
In most of my videos I do add a reverb/delay but it's killer.
Pro One
You show two different Pro-Ones with different face plates and input/outputs. What gives? Thank you.
Todd Smith what is your iPad doing in this set up? Are you using it to record or to sequence?
Both with this setup. One ipad was multi tracking and the other was acting like a groovebox.
Nice music man, I really liked!! Keep it going!
Glad you enjoyed it !
ya i too like the outro tune man! nice job, i just bought the pro 1 almost a month ago and first thought i made a mistake bec no keys no memory but ive been sampling a bunch of multi layered sounds n sequencing em in just my korg micro sampler and have amazed my self as with all things with limits i think gets the best outta ya! with in a week i easily figured out how to re write all of yazoos music and as u say the pro ones very complex. keepin it for sure thw poly d is my next choice.
The Two, my captain!🙏💚🧡😎 What do they do using the five vco's ?
Thanks for demo! What app you use for drums and which sample pack 2:30?
Korg gadget supplied all drums
@@toddsmithmusic3172 Considering I have M1 patch in my Ipad can I connect midi key to ipad in order to play M1 sound and ipad to mixer at the same time?
Todd, what controller are you using to get the sounds out of the Model D? Sounds great. Just got one last week and I am having some problems with it...
Great video and great jam at the end. Thanks for this !
Todd, the song you made demonstrating the Pro-1 around the 7:00 mark, is amazing. Can I buy it somewhere?
I will be adding tracks to start building a album on bandcamp which will include this track. It will be free, pay what you want.
I’ll hit you up soon , when it’s on BANDCAMP
@@toddsmithmusic3172 Is the song up yet?
During the end clip around 11 minutes in, where are you getting the strings/pad sounds?
Hey did you make that 3-tier stand for the Model D, Neuron and Pro-1?! I need that in my life!
Synth and Wood my friend
Is that an iPad controlling midi? What software are you using?
Korg gadget
really good review & demo
Thank you !
Amazing video! I’m looking at both of these. I might just buy both. But which one would you say is able to pull off weird fx and really pronounced pitch modulations? Most of the music I write is psychedelic in nature.
Would you say the model 15 could be even better than the model d?
Oscillator is pronounced without a “k sound”, just a friendly tip :)
That is how I roll. You’re not the first to point it out and won’t be the last 😂😂
Hope you’re doing well
@@tommytritone5992 It’s how it naturally rolls out and I’m comfortable in my own skin
@@toddsmithmusic3172 Good attitude, it's something like your trademark. Thumbs up for keeping it that way and not trying to change it. And-btw-thanks for the interesting synth comparison :)
Also, Beh -ringer not behringer but I’m in no ways a stickler for these points, great vid !
Hi Tod! First of all: thx for the amazing video you made! please tell me, where did you get your rack for your behringers from? looks awsome and i really would need one too... Hope to get your answer
Synth and Wood, it was a early "test" model so I imagine the modern version looks even better
You can contact him via FB and he's a very nice guy, ask him any questions
www.synthsandwood.co.uk/
Gotta catch ‘em all!
Aren’t you using an external reverb on the Pro1 there? Seems like an unfair comparison, unless that’s really just straight from the pro 1 , in which case wow.
Thumbs up just for the tunes btw, really nice stuff!
End jam kinda reminiscent of like some front242. 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it !
What were you using to program the drums? Especially on the first Model D example?
Looking forward to the Model D arriving to join my DSI Mopho and Evolver desktops. Want all the new Behringers though!!
Can’t say. I only have the Pro-1 out of those two. Some day I’ll owe a Model D. My next will be the K2. Then I’ll have the K2, Neutron, Pro-1 and the DM12. My yellow TD3 may take forever to get here.
I want a K2 😂😂😂😂🎶🎶🎶👍
@@toddsmithmusic3172 And I have a K2 and want a Pro1 ... and a Cat. Haha, in due time. ^_^
Thanks Todd. This helps.
No problem!
I'm looking at either the D, Pro1 or MS1 to pair with my Odyssey. Which one would you say is the most different to the odyssey sound? I want to cover a large range of analog mono sounds with 2 synths.
Thanks and great videos as always!
what did you end up going with?
@@christopherrusch I decided I want to wait for one of the bigger Behringer poly synths instead. In the mean time I got an RD6 and TD3 though haha
Is the rack custom or can be bought somewhere in EU?
My wood rack ?
I'd also like to know! Yes, the wood rack for the synths
6;27 i didnt know that the pro 1 has reverb included , awesome
So where does the neutron fit in with these two ?
amazing song
where'd you get that rack? or make it yoruself?
Synth and Wood makes synth racks. Think they might of slowed down because of brexit and all the crazy global stuff. I've seen other options on reverb tho
@@toddsmithmusic3172 yeah, I see they have slowed down, I did find something on Etsy for a Behringer and Pro-1, would have to modify/add to the top to put a Model D on there though, not a big problem!
Hey, What rack do you use for housing the modules?
I've recently really got into synths and made a huge mistake with buying the minilogue XD.... In that I'm now hooked ;) bought the Neutron since and now looking at either the Pro 1 or Model D. I think I need help lol
The Minilogue XD has some beautiful sounds but I prefer the fact I obviously can't save presets on the Neutron, it forces me to be hands-on and I love it, it's also wonderfully gritty.
Welcome to the family!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sold my Model D for a second PRO-1. I'm a sequential kind a guy and Moog somehow is not my cup of tea. The Prophet 08 and RVE2 are my favourite and go to synths in my studio and decided to stick to sequential synths and like "special one trick pony"synths like the 303, MS-1, Korg MS-20.
Everyone is different, that’s why we’ve got opinions. Glad it worked out for you !
It appears UA-cam has a mind reading algorithm! I’ve just received an unexpected windfall and was thinking “Pro One or Model D?” Then this appears on my feed. Great vid dude and love the wee jam at the end 👍 Still undecided which one though??? I already have a MiniBrute 2S, Neutron, TD3 and Volca Bass, so I’m wondering which one will complement that lot... Peace ✌️
CAT
@@distortimus7631 Oh no!? You just had to didn't you 😵
I honestly think the Model D sounds better but I still bought a pro-1 instead because I think it will let me find a more unique sound eventually.
Also aren't you just a couple of euro rack modules away from getting a model d sound anyway?
I like the pro 1 filter better but I’m considering buying the model d or neutron
I really do love all 3 synths. They all other something different
Would a Model D be a good upgrade from a Crave? I tried the Neutron but didn't like the filter section much. I'm guessing the Model D is more Crave-like.
Both?
Can’t argue
@@toddsmithmusic3172 :D
I can’t take the Oskillator pronunciation FR... 💪🏼🇺🇸
get over it or leave homie 😂😂😂
I did... that’s y I subscribed and liked😆
Hanz Volt Hahah, I get so much hate for it and it’s just how I roll broskies. Either way hope you have a good day
What reverb unit are you using?
Fab filter pro r , software
On the D, any tuning problems?
Mine doesn't have issues at all
Both of them!!! + neutron (owner of Pro1 - Model D - K2 and neutron... And getting crave + cat + wasp)
I agree, both is best =)
The crave is awesome. I am consistently surprised by its capabilities each time I use it.
Good jam, man!
thank you !
has the BS-80 already been released?
