I have the 2012 remaster and sounds good to me. I’ve heard many good things about the Rhino Hi Fi edition. But I’m trying to stop chasing the best version and just enjoy what I have
I have a pretty-clean 1970 Pitman pressing (USA) and the Rhino is in an entirely different dimension in terms of sound and emotion. I love it. It's not even close.
I missed out on the Rhino High Fidelity Black Sabbath on their website, but your glowing review inspired me to go pull the trigger on their reissue of the first Stooges album that just came out. I am not going to regret waiting too long a second time! If I can also find the Rhino Sabbath in a store for a good price, I am grabbing it. Comparing it to my US original would be cool. Also, thank you for showing the Swirl, haha. I never get sick of seeing it!
I have a near mint+ first U.S. pressing. It sounds amazing too. Sounds better than my near mint Vertigo UK first press but the Vertigo has more crunch on the guitars. It sounds darker. I love them both.
Their debut album is probably the best sounding one. I own the UK Vertigo and it's amazing. Every instrument is so realistic and I'm a musician and know well how these instruments should sound live in the studio. You can exactly hear that tube warmth in the guitar and bass. Ozzy is right in the middle, very clear and airy. Actually the sound of the whole record is so present and airy that you have a feeling that you can touch it. One of the top 10 best sounding records in my collection!
@@top5records796 ...I own both a UK 1st press and the UK 1973 reissue on Vertigo UFO label. The only difference are the labels. The reissue sounds incredible. My copy is near mint and plays like a dream. A better (?) option would be the US 1st Artisan pressing (Warner, green labels)!
I've been wanting this release and it sold out before I even knew about this release from Rhino. But, you just sold me, and to find a copy as I was listening to you. Lucky I just found a copy on discogs for a great price. I have a green label from the 70's maybe US pressing but not sure exactly what year. I also have the Rhino 2010 pressing. So based on your opinion this Kevin Gray pressing is going to sound exceptionally better.
Agree, Kevin Grey remastering is supreme. I wish Rush remasters could have been done by him, and so many more..... His Balck Sabbath s/t remaster makes me return to the band's albums. The other reissues were a pain in my ears.
I ordered mine from the Rhino website in the US for about £35 with £11 postage. Very reasonable I thought. Also got Marquee Moon and waiting for the Stooges one to arrive.
It's crazy to think how much the black sabbath and following heavy metal aesthetic came down to this first album's art that the band had nothing to do with and to some extent fought against
@@top5records796 I had the 1st UK pressings of ALL BS's albums... but when I collapsed and lost my memory in 2019 I lost EVERYTHING.... clothes, my home, vinyl😞
Well I found it in New York at Barnes and Nobles! Haven’t seen it in The Netherlands yet… I have a Thorens TD160 with Ortofon Blue for stereo and Ortofon White for mono. The receiver is a Marantz 2216 and I have Dynaudio BM MK6a MK I speakers.

Interesting! That does make me curious to hear a 1st UK.
@top5records796 you should and you won't regrent a penny!

Australian 1st press on the Fontana label

Totally agree, but I do find the Rhino a tad low on bass.

Stooges one? Which one are they doing?

I have the first dutch pressing of Vol 4. How does it compare to a UK?
I have no idea. From Vol 4. I only have the 1976 Nems reissue.

I bought the 2024 Rhino, and it’s good, but I prefer my US green label OG Warner.
Interesting! Why do you prefer it?
Care to share where you bought it in The Netherlands? btw curious about your setup.. will you give us a little insight into what you use?

The 1st UK 🇬🇧 is the one to own.
I’d love to find one! But they are very rare.
In your opinion
1st UK is very overrated.
