The police captain that you hate has made a career playing odious or annoying administrators. His name is Bob Gunton. He played the warden in Shawshank Redemption. He was in the 101st Airborne during Vietnam. He won the Bronze Star. A close friend he served with was wounded and he called in a medical evacuation for him. After his friend was gone in the chopper, he wasn't able to find out if he lived or died. Years later his friend who was wounded was vacationing with his wife in New York when he saw Bob's face on a Broadway poster for Evita in which Bob played Juan Peron. He sent word to Bob, Bob sent him free tickets, and they had a reunion after the show. He does charity work with veterans.

Demolition Man is not only really fun and hilarious, but its actually kind of deep, showing the downsides of extreme order and chaos through its two antagonists.

It's a well-known fact that the stunt coordinator and director had him slow down the movements because he was simply too fast for the regular camera to properly track his arms and legs in the fight scenes. I adore this movie so much. I remember coming across my mums VHS tapes around the 2000s when i was a kid, born Dec 1999. It had an average of two movies on them so I'd start watching some wholesome movie about a boy and his dog only for the next thing movie to The Running Man 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger or this movie Demolition Man. That's how I discovered alot of these classic 1980s to 1990s action movies most of them stuff a 8 year old shouldn't be watching tbh.
Total Recall, The Running Man. Demolition Man, Starship Troopers, Highlander, Predator, Aliens, Top Gun, Die Hard, Mad Max 2, Escape from New York, Lethal Weapon, Big Trouble in Little China, Beverly Hills Cop, They Live, Conan the Barbarian, pick any of these movies and you'll have a fun time. Starship Troopers may be far too violent but the others are great.
Another Sly movie that's set in a dystopian future is Judge Dredd based on the Judge Dredd 2000AD British comic books series. From an art direction stand point it's amazing feels like they pulled everything straight out of the comic but the characters themselves such as Dredd aren't too faithful to the comic which naturally upset alot of comic fans. But the film does a good job at showcasing the more crazy and silly side of the 2000AD universe with it's designs and overall tone and depiction of the future. It's kind of like the Tim Burton Batman movies in this regard having a very comic book inspired city compared to the more tame Nolan Trilogy.
Then you have Dredd from 2012 which is amazing, lower budget so the art direction is much more tame in compression having a more near future look instead but everything else is amazing. it's also much more faithful to Dredd as a character and showcases the more mature and darker side of the 2000AD universe. So both films go for different things, combine these two together and we'd have one hell of a Judge Dredd movie or show. So yeah I personally recommend the 2012 Dredd film overall. If the film got a sequel I could see them developing Mega City One closer to the comics to show the passage of time.
Wesley Snipes is amazing in this movie if you want to see more of him i highly recommend Marvel's Blade trilogy from the first movie in 1998 to Blade: Trinity released in 2004. These pre date the MCU so like Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four they're not connected to any greater universe. Blade 1 and 2 are amazing fun and credited for kick started the whole Marvel wave of movies along with X-Men which is also credited for that. Blade: Trinity is pretty mixed i actually have never seen it but like I said I adore the first two movies.

This movie is pretty much a 90's inspired retelling of Brave New World. John Spartan is frequently referred to as a savage, mirroring John the Savage in BNW who came from the non-technological Reservation. The constant focus on cleanliness and hygiene. The rejection of intimacy and emotional expression. Just a lot more bullets and explosions.

This is a really fun movie. I have always been a big Wesley Snipes fan, and I love seeing him as a villain as much as a hero.

@mysterious2ndguy Friendly advice: Using words like simp and boomer automatically makes most grownups think they're talking to a kid. NOT calling you a kid (Wouldn't care if you were: my 13 year old watches this😀), just thought you might wanna know.

Another great fun-ironic Stallone movie I can recommend is "Judge Dredd" (1995) 🙃. A very underrated Stallone movie worth a watch is "Cliffhanger" (1993).
As for Wesley Snipes (Simon Phoenix) the Blade trilogy is a good start.

lol you totally got it. Well done! These 90s action movies were so good at not taking themselves too seriously. I have vivid fond memories of renting this at the local video store on a Friday night when I was 12. Then racing home with my buddy to watch it and we loved every second. Not to mention, the birth of my everlasting crush on the one and only, Sandy Bullock 😂❤

One of my favorite movies! It's not a movie to take too seriously. It's just a fun action movie that pokes fun at themselves, other action movies, as well as society in general. As others have said it does have a bit of depth.

I love the idea of the commercials becoming an oldies pop thing. I remember songs like that and we all do. Especially local ones. I remember singing Mattress Giant when I was a teenager in Texas and being from Chicago area originally, Empire (and when Empire added 800 to their number) and Victory Auto (more the guy in bell bottoms and the door falling off.
I'm sure everyone here knows the Education Connection song.

What I didn't clock until your comment was that old commercials ARE kind of a niche thing now, there are channels dedicated to showing blocks of commercials from the 70s, 80s and 90s, as well as hobbyists with their own film scanners uploading old trailers and film clips into 4K and they're all very calming, relaxing, and retro. Go figure!
