Braden McHenry true but it is also a 140k mile motor. It will obviously need a rebuild soon cause it is gonna blow up on that much boost but still for 140k 120lbs is not terrible
Evan you have no idea how much your videos help me man. I deal with depression and I love watching your videos to brighten my day. Can’t wait to see the final stage of the evo!!!!
I think your car either boost cut because of the wastegate not opening or it fuel cut one of the 2 but i think its boost cut since you didnt have the correct springs for the waste gate to open and allow more pressure
tawnt gahua my first thought too. breaking up like that at high rpms is spark plug blowout... that said I’ve had a mbc fail that had a very similar effect, and paired with him running 30psi on a 7lb spring I think he’s got his vacuum lines mixed on his wastegate
Can’t wait to see what the evo actually make. I have a stock block evo x. Borg Warner 7163. 436 whp on CBRD mustang dyno. Pump gas 93 octane. Also. Cylinder 1 is all the way pass side. Evan counted cylinder order backwards. xD
Did you compression test with the engine warm, and the throttle plate fully open? Might increase those numbers a bit, but definitely noting to worry about. DAAAAAS A HEALTHY MOTAH!
You need to do a leak-down test it will tell you exactly the health of your engine. Compression test is a waste of time. Also why are you running pump gas why not E85 its way more forgiving. Try running non-projected tip spark plugs you will cut down the chance of blow-out. By the way I have a 700whp Evo 8 ;)
Evan - 30 psi makes for a ton of air moving in the motor, that air pressure is likely blowing out the spark. That’s why the motor sounded weird on that pull most likely.
The tuner should be able adjust the boost. If you don't you should get a grimmspeed 3 port ebcs. I know i had to when i had a larger turbo installed. Good luck.
I think with that much boost it was probably blowing out the spark, also it's possible that at higher rpms and with high mileage so weak valve springs it was causing the valves to float possibly.
Well my daily has 140k on a OEM never opened motor and is still good on compression, it gets beaten on the daily, if you take care of it will be good to you
Solid even compression numbers. Still wouldn't send it too much. Get it tuned, drive it for a while and then build the motor. Hint: Take it to cars and coffee my dude!
Not all compression in 4cyl turbo cars is 125. I have a feeling you didn't open your throttle when you were doing this. Need to do a leak down test, that will tell you more about your rings and/or valves.
could have been blowing the sparkplugs out at higher rpm. tighter gap and maybe colder plugs. and you need a boost controller to manage that wastegate.
Evan, you have helped me through many, many tough times, and your videos always make me laugh and put a smile on my face! Thank you so much! Love the Evo build as well as the sc300 and Porsche
Too much boost and getting spark blow out. You need to get boost under control and tighten up the spark plug gap. Wastegate might not be opening from having the boost controller not hooked up correctly. The wastegate won’t open if it doesn’t receive any boost pressure.
The 4b11 platform is weak when it comes to torque levels at lower rpms. That's what usually blows engines. Even though more horsepower means something eventually will give but I've seen fully built evo engines blow up as well.
That summit racing store is amazing. You can get lost in there. The evo is turning out great. Glad you’re happy with it. Did you upgrade the MAF sensor to 3 bar one? Also do you have a boost controller? Might need to limit how much boost it’s making per gear too
Not hating or anything I swear. I just don't see why it wasn't more power. Sure I get the whole half throttle but all those upgrades for that amount? My ecoboost made 302 to the wheels after being tuned on a dyno and 391 lb ft completely stock turbo, just bolt ons. I figured a full turbo set up like that would make a little more but I'm still learning I guess lol.
matthew nelke Does your ecoboost have 130k miles? I think its pretty obvious. With that many mileage going towards anything over mid 400s is plain dumb unless you are ready to blow your motor. Per evans word he wants to drive it for a little bit. Learn more about evos.. Mine has 45k miles and i’ll be ok with 450whp. But a motor with that much mileage im surprised its still holding on. If it had less mileage he could go into the 500whp range. But with the miles his only option is going to be to build the block.
I'm still betting it's the wastegate plumbed wrong, or the wastegate control solenoid valve is broken. At a minimum you'd need a 1BAR spring for proper tuning and operation on that car. And get some new plugs and gap them down.
I really wish you could find a good shop and just tag along with them and let them get that thing right. Like how Dustin is doing with his, he hasn’t been involved as much as what I would like to see but at least you know that thing is going to run right and be something you can make some awesome content with. Like taking that thing up to cars and coffee and smoking some super cars on the tollway that’s some stuff I’d like to see. Just a little input. That evo does sound good!
Breaking up doesn’t mean the motor is blown, I’d check spark plug gap. You could be blowing out the spark. Also MAF isn’t effected by boost pressure its before the turbo, maybe you meant MAP. Did you do the compression check with the throttle open? Makes a difference, also warm vs cold compression check makes a difference. If your turner is mind boggled over some break up on higher boost then I’d look else where for a tuner. I’ve been tuning my own cars for years, with a laptop in front of him he has all the diagnostic help he would need. Motor is probably perfectly fine, check the ignition system. Also, please hook up your damn wideband. That way if you see it go lean you can let out verse sending it lean and killing it. Thought you had put in the 7-8psi spring in the wastegate. Sounds like something else is wrong. Pulling all the duty out of the controller should make it only run on spring pressure. Check vacuum lines, having the upper and lower line swapped is a common mistake and will cause over boosting no matter what spring is in the gate.
Talk to C&R for your cooling stuff. Theyre the industry standard for NASCAR, formula1, and other professional forms of racing. theyd probably get you setup with a set of SPAL fans that are also another industry standard.
You were having Spark Blowout from too much boost/ too lose of a plug gap, or a poor tuneup in your last video. I'd go looking for a different tuner ASAP! Also make sure your waste gate isn't getting to boost reference to the top of the waste gate. that'll make it make all the boost.
Numbers aren’t bad and are even all the way. Lower the boost and put it back on the dyno... always remember once a car is tuned a tune doesn’t mess up.
It was just detonation. In other words, it had to much boost (you know that) so was running lean and makes the air/fuel ignite before spark. Orrr your coils or spark plugs don't have enough power to ignite that much air/fuel and so it misses or ignites at the wrong time purely from compression of the fuel. Just tryna help a brother out ❤️
Probably nothing was much wrong .... Just a little rich on when the tuner let off the gas .... Sorta like spark cut .... Not that odd for mostly straight pipe cars to pop and shoot a bit of smoke and etc, on the Dyno i think ....
I know what the problem is. Its actually quite simple. Its your tuner haha
i still prefer the soarer haha
word
I wish viewers could pin comments cause this needs to be pinned lol.
Just wanted to put that this was filmed last weekend so this was way before I had your inputs. Thanks again for helping!!
Evan Shanks wing for evo from japan dude ?!
looks like a yanny to me ;)
find a better tuner.
U got tail lights from Japan?
Evan Shanks you make sure your boost lines are going to the right spot??
120 is not great. Healthy 4b11s should be in the 145-160 range
Braden McHenry true but it is also a 140k mile motor. It will obviously need a rebuild soon cause it is gonna blow up on that much boost but still for 140k 120lbs is not terrible
His motors old; 145k miles, time to build it.
Actually when compression testing any car cold it’s going to be low if the car was warmed up it would be higher
even though its lower than new spec..consistent numbers is more important above a certain minimum threshold
Guessing he did it dry and cold.
Need a new tuner. He has a lot to learn. Try t1 in Texas
Yes he needs a tuner who knows whats going on
Ats racing is pretty good to
Foreal t1 is very close to him in dallas
Hey u should seriously consider loosing those glasses
Jackrabbit Productions maybe he should consider tightening them.
May be the gayest sunglasses ive ever seen.
Yes those glasses are junk and embarrassing
Evan you have no idea how much your videos help me man. I deal with depression and I love watching your videos to brighten my day. Can’t wait to see the final stage of the evo!!!!
I think your car either boost cut because of the wastegate not opening or it fuel cut one of the 2 but i think its boost cut since you didnt have the correct springs for the waste gate to open and allow more pressure
Purgatory Z yeah i was just thinking it was most definetely a boost cut
Purgatory Z I don't have much experience with the 10's motor, but I'm thinking some spark blowout too? 30 psi+ stock gap
tawnt gahua my first thought too. breaking up like that at high rpms is spark plug blowout... that said I’ve had a mbc fail that had a very similar effect, and paired with him running 30psi on a 7lb spring I think he’s got his vacuum lines mixed on his wastegate
Drummerac24 there we go. Troubleshooting completed. Don't think we ever opened the hood.
tawnt gahua we’ll put it on his tab
Can’t wait to see what the evo actually make. I have a stock block evo x. Borg Warner 7163. 436 whp on CBRD mustang dyno. Pump gas 93 octane. Also. Cylinder 1 is all the way pass side. Evan counted cylinder order backwards. xD
Told ya the engine is fine, and why don't your tuner know what the issue is.......scary stuff lul
good compression on this engine is supposed to be 156-165
My motor is built and my compression is 122psi across. Lol
Did you compression test with the engine warm, and the throttle plate fully open?
Might increase those numbers a bit, but definitely noting to worry about.
DAAAAAS A HEALTHY MOTAH!
Omg, I love the sound of the evo ❤️
You need to do a leak-down test it will tell you exactly the health of your engine. Compression test is a waste of time. Also why are you running pump gas why not E85 its way more forgiving. Try running non-projected tip spark plugs you will cut down the chance of blow-out. By the way I have a 700whp Evo 8 ;)
I know the feeling...I just built my RB26 and doing break in miles now...can't go passed 4k RPM and its KILLING ME! lol
Pretty sure your cylinder numbers are backwards
It sounds like the spark is breaking up. I would change the spark plugs and upgrade the coil packs. Too much boost and not enough spark.
Tim Strange he only needs to upgrade the coils when making over 35 psi
He would have to get a COP system and go a step colder in spark plugs
The sputtering seen on the dyno looks more like a spark cut. Check plugs, wires, coils, ect.
Check your spark plug gaps and general condition. Keep going down line with the ignition components and make sure we everything is okay.
Evan - 30 psi makes for a ton of air moving in the motor, that air pressure is likely blowing out the spark. That’s why the motor sounded weird on that pull most likely.
I’m so excited to see you grow with your Evo
He got some new dope evo lights. I know because VLAND is written on the box which is an light brand.
Mad love you Mike D and the Video bro all the way from South Africa
Evan there’s a thing called spark blow out. Change your plugs and gap them butches down to 18. High boost smaller gap.
Change to a 4bar maf/map sensor and 1 step colder sparkplugs
The tuner should be able adjust the boost. If you don't you should get a grimmspeed 3 port ebcs. I know i had to when i had a larger turbo installed. Good luck.
Your whistle at 5:34 played on the left side of my headphones and scared the crap out of me
I think with that much boost it was probably blowing out the spark, also it's possible that at higher rpms and with high mileage so weak valve springs it was causing the valves to float possibly.
Well my daily has 140k on a OEM never opened motor and is still good on compression, it gets beaten on the daily, if you take care of it will be good to you
120 seems really low. Speed is around 180.
When I went big turbo that sputtering was spark plugs! Need to go 1 step colder plugs! NGK-6510
Solid even compression numbers. Still wouldn't send it too much. Get it tuned, drive it for a while and then build the motor. Hint: Take it to cars and coffee my dude!
Boys we got a H0t b0iii wing incoming from Japan! Hell yeah! Love the build dude. Keep up with the good content 💪
I usually run the car until operation temp to make sure all the piston to wall clearance is correct
Also I would do a leak down test
Not all compression in 4cyl turbo cars is 125. I have a feeling you didn't open your throttle when you were doing this. Need to do a leak down test, that will tell you more about your rings and/or valves.
Delete the rear seat and go for a harness bar! Safety first and harnesses look so good with those Recaro seats babyyyyyy
It can be the high boost is messing with the spark{ Blowing it out} that's why sparks plugs need to get recapped for higher boost ....
could have been blowing the sparkplugs out at higher rpm. tighter gap and maybe colder plugs. and you need a boost controller to manage that wastegate.
My turbosmart wastegate did the same shit. 5 pound spring and didn’t crack until like 25.
The 4b11 platform is weak when it comes to torque levels at lower rpms. That's what usually blows engines. Even though more horsepower means something eventually will give but I've seen fully built evo engines blow up as well.

Finallyy the Rear freaking lights!!

Daaaaaamn Evan that Yanny was beautiful. bruh you should really get one.
Evan it sounded like your timing was off on the dyno, my BMW made the same noise when I would go WOT and when I advanced my timing it went away
I really wish you could find a good shop and just tag along with them and let them get that thing right. Like how Dustin is doing with his, he hasn’t been involved as much as what I would like to see but at least you know that thing is going to run right and be something you can make some awesome content with. Could fuel be a problem? I’m not sure just a wild guess
This car sounds amazing!
Breaking up doesn’t mean the motor is blown, I’d check spark plug gap. You could be blowing out the spark. Also MAF isn’t effected by boost pressure its before the turbo, maybe you meant MAP. Evan, you have to put your car into wide open throttle in order to get accurate results when doing a compression test.
Was it just spitting flames?
Talk to C&R for your cooling stuff. Theyre the industry standard for NASCAR, formula1, and other professional forms of racing. theyd probably get you setup with a set of SPAL fans that are also another industry standard.
Very good my boy Evan keep up bro and love video 💯
Liked before watching. keep up the good work fat daddy. The evo looks amazing and the content is awesome!
Clico are used more for you racecar bodies. Building modifieds and stock cars and stuff
You were having Spark Blowout from too much boost/ too lose of a plug gap, or a poor tuneup in your last video. I'd go looking for a different tuner ASAP! Also make sure your waste gate isn't getting to boost reference to the top of the waste gate. that'll make it make all the boost.
That is crazy! That shop :O We have anything like that in our country, only online shops
Close your spark plug gap to .19 , or try replacing you 4bar map sensor
U should of went for a tial wastgate all together turbosmarts always have so many issues
are you going to the youtube callout. its a 1/8 mile and your AWD so you may have a good chance
Either with 30 psi of boost it was blowing out the spark or he let off just about the same time as he was about to hit the rev limiter
You got a big WANG for the evo!
Could it be your spark plugs? I’m assuming you got colder plugs but I forget.
its the tune and the tuner... just listening the dyno run you can tell it started sputtering due to the tune
Set my alarm early for the vid. Commitment 10/10
How are you not bigger than TJ?
well he is "bigger" #fatdaddy
Not that interesting
are you f** serious??
hahahahahaahahaha
MascotGamerDK it’s not known
Because he does shitty cinematics, horrible music, and is annoying
Check your ignition coils for cracks
Nice sounding evo!!!!
Evan Shanks if you like laurels you should come to trinidad it is full of laurels . Gtr any jdm car
Shouldn’t the MAF sensor be on the charge pipe for better accuracy?
Spark blow out had the same thing on my turbo e30
Omg that purple Skyline is 😫😫😫😫😫😫😘 Also my 89 Honda Civic wagon with a D15 had 200psi of compression @230,000 miles
ITS CALLED MAINTENANCE EVAN😂😂😂😂
anything 30 psi and above u need a map sensor instead of stock maf sensor
Cylinder 1 starts at the front of the engine btw
Evan COMPRESSION TEST on evo is suppose to be done when HOT. And upgrade and get better SPARK! Good luck bro.
We littt, noti squaddd
With that amount of boost. You start to cut spark and “blow” it out.
0:26 victoria unleashing classics
Spark is getting blown out, gap plugs so that 30psi doesn't blow out the spark.
Love the content keep it up bro💯
Evan is the evo getting a full paint job or just a new plastic dip color?
Full tune up
awesome yanny at the beginning of the video
Dam I wish they had a summit closer to Fayetteville for sure
Numbers aren’t bad and are even all the way. Lower the boost and put it back on the dyno... always remember once a car is tuned a tune doesn’t mess up.

Just tryna help a brother out ❤️
A big wing from Japan???
Probably nothing was much wrong .... Just a little rich on when the tuner let off the gas .... Sorta like spark cut .... Not that odd for mostly straight pipe cars to pop and shoot a bit of smoke and etc, on the Dyno i think ....
if your tuner didn't ask what springs your gate was on to start with... Plus that much Boost on a stock MAF is sketch itself IMHO.
My guess for the japanase part would be a Massive W A N G.
Evan is sick... giving us old content because this kid is a time traveller
u got taillights for the exo btw
Check your piston for holes :)
Did you try turning it off and on again?
my man the car is looking good ... if you are ever in maryland i'll take you for a ride in my 700hp+ 2002 911 turbo
U got illuminate headlights or tail lights for the evo
You checked it with a cold motor. You'd have more if you heated it up first.
Are you sure that your wastegate valve itself isn't stuck?
you were probably blowing the spark out - sounds like spark failure pop
