I have the same Phone the 1st model. still in amazing condition. I also have the z1 compact and the z3 compact. This last one is awesome.
I have used this phone since 2014 and only now did I upgrade to a new phone. The Xperia M2 served me well and is still working, although now somewhat destroyed

I really like that you sped up the unboxing part. I dont like when people do reviews and drag out the video by showing all the papers and crap in the box. Gets right to the phone. Nice!

I have the Sony Xperia M2, and I have to say it is quite a good phone. But if you are a games and camera fan, then maybe don't choose this phone. The camera is fine in good lighting while on the outward facing camera, and can usually focus on closer objects and make further away objects blurry. But as soon as the lighting dimmers,the camera struggles to pick up a good picture. It is even worse on the forward facing camera. There has to be a lot of lighting for it to pick much up, and when there is less lighting you can barely make out that there is a face in the shot. Another problem is that there isn't a lot of storage space on the phone itself. I am constantly being reminded to transer data onto my SD card, which can be very annoying. Other than that, the M2 has good speakers,it has good lighting and the battery life is good,usually lasting at least a day.
I also have this phone and i agree with what you said, however i do in a way regret buying it because i am a camera person, and when i use the front facing camera inside my house at night time, it does. Not pick up. However i'll be getting another phone soon
I have this in purple. The camera is fine for me and fingerprints are not a problem. It is sooooo good
I love how you said I assume Sony will release an update to KitKat.. because of the sticker on the box. That just made me laugh so much. Great video.
I still have this phone and it still works perfect....a bit slower than 2 years ago but nothing too bad
But the camera is pretty bad if the light is not perfect.
Silviu Bogdan The back camera has degraded :( It was much better when I had android Jelly Bean, once it got KitKat and Lollipop the camera suffered greatly. I actually took quite a few good pictures with the back camera before, even in controlled low light conditions
It is the best deal for those who want and wait for a decent model to lay low the price and doesn't give money on new or high end devices (here is 139E on Orange network). I think is worth to mention for those who are music maniacs that the option "ClearAudio+" from the walkman app is quite impressive, not bull**it like I thought it's gonna be. It also gets all the fluffs from your pokets since the first day of use on the speaker side, and is getting inside before you can take it off (if you can..)

I finally decided to bought this phone after watch your video. There's a price drop here in Indonesia which cost me around $250 for a M2, a sony's slingshot bag and a xperia t-shirt as bonus packages.
I find out the capability to do both NFC and OTG, which I actually need the most to connect to Sony Alpha A77 mark II. Not everyone use it but I think worth to mention it.
After couple of days using it I actually enjoy the M2, certainly much-much better than my Chinese phone named "Mito".
Other than that I personally 100% agree with your review. So, nice one out there!
A tip from me.. well to avoid the finger prints on both front and back side, I installed screen protectors on both sides. Cheap and easy, and still pop up the body design of Xperia M2. (Rather than 3rd party flip cover, I mean)
I have this phone and what i dont like is the camera, if you use it in low light for example in your bedroom around night time, the front cam does not pick up properly. Other than that it is a good phone i will recommend to others. 😊
Lasted 2 years . Drove it in to the ground . Good price in 2014 .
Good review. The pricing on this phone is just plain stupid but otherwise seems like a good phone. I'm rocking the Xperia Z1 Compact and loving it.
I'm satisfied with my Xperia M, since I'm not really looking to spend on a top spec phone and I don't like large phones, but if I was, it would be the Z1 Compact for sure. Hopefully Sony continues to make Compacts in the future.
its 2020 and this phone still works though it cant compete with todays application. the system is already in android lollipop
I have the aqua model and its almost a year old, its really a great buy, performance didn't change a lot but ram got improved at lollipop update. Its physical things have changed a lot tho, my waterproofing isn't working anymore because the rubber seal's adhesive didn't last much and the metallic paint on the sides are now fading.
+Joshua M Original M2 has Lolipop 5.1.1 too, and I've noticed that if you choose Superior auto mode for photos with 4:3 aspect ratio it will make much higher quality photos instead of 16:9 as it takes 8MP photos in 4:3 and 5MP 16:9 I think.
I bought this phone a week ago and it's perfect, the battery is my only problem if i play too much but it gets me through a few hours of games and youtube :)

While I do think the Moto G is a much better midrange phone, especially for its price, it is worth mentioning that the M2 has NFC, LTE, and an SD slot, the former and latter of which are make-or-break features for me, at least, since I use NFC a lot, and the Moto G here is only available in the 8GB model.
That said, the Moto G has a more pixel-dense display, and outstanding software support, compared to Sony's slow (though much more consistent (Xperia SP users may disagree)) update schedule.
Didn't they release moto g LTE? That has a micro SD card slot?

Moto g is only available in 8gb here in nz also, but all I did was order one off TradeMe (local eBay sorta thing) which has 16gb, easy :)
I agree with you when it comes to the skin other than stock Android. I love the Xperia UI and whenever I get bored with my phone's stock ROM which has a Stock Android UI, I just flash in the Xperia-like ROM from Clockworkmod recovery.
Nice review as always! I think you need to shoot more of close up vids so that we can see all the details better. Otherwise its a great review. I think sony has their own fans. This btw is awesome. I might want to buy it if it got at least 720p with a 2gigs ram and a quadcore 1.5ghz. The design of this phone is awesome!

My Sony Xperia J has 754MB of phone memory and 2.01GB of internal storage. However the phone is always complaining "insufficient memory" when I install new apps. For the Sony Xperia M2, it only says it has 8GB internal storage (5GB usable) but no mention of phone memory. Does anyone experience the "insufficient memory" error on M2 ?
I had this phone got it for £120 and i liked it broke my Z1 when i was away with the army and got a cheep replacement but it wasn't a bad phone. Only complaint after the update it would randomly struggling to play some songs when i was listening to music weirdest thing ever.
In my opinion, the sony xperia M2 it's a great mobile phone despite what is commented on the video. Maybe is not the newest and best mobile phone of Sony, cause it hasn't been created to be the new xperia Z3, but I've bought it for 190€, not dollars, and for me is a mobile wich has a good relation between price and quality, cause not everybody can pay more than 500€ for an Iphone, or the best Samsung's or Sony's mobile phone. In conclusion: my mark is 8'5 for good price and quality.
Last December 24 2014...I desided to buy a new phone.. I saw Sony Smart Phones in SM.I look for sony xperia M2's details,then I desided to buy that phones.I have so much memories.I think this phone is my friend,I love it so much.
I have the best memories with that phone.
But Last august,I lose it in my school.I cry everyday,It never ends in my mind.I think I lose my life.2015 is my worst year.

I've got my Xperia M2 D2303 in July. When I got it I thought such amazing phone so big and nice really cool phone. On the other hand I was a lil disappointed cuz I wanted the Z1 but it was to expensive. Anyways I love this phone the only thing I don't like is the headset for a phone like this they should have put a membrane headset other than that it's great!

The FFC resolution is VGA. Hate that Sony still use such camera, 1,3mpx res is more acceptable.
And yes, been using Xperia user for 3 years - figure out that Sony's camera dissapoints me quite a lot :(

I wanna buy this phone mainly cuz it's cheap but I'm worried for the squirky chuckboardish kinda feel too it cuz I got really sweaty hands and this phone looks like a phone witch has that kinda feel to it now that it's a fingerprint collecter. Should I be worried for that squirky experiance or isn't it a problem at all?

This phone is really good but the WiFi is terrible on it also the screen is way to sensitive (UA-cam users will know what I mean) and there is also one more issue that I can't remember but overall I think the phone is very cool

My issue is I can choose between the m2 or the sp. The SP has a higher screen resolution but, would the quad core cpu of this be better than the higher clocked dual core of the sp?
I think the resolutions on both phones dosen't have many differences. You should go with the M2, because the CPU means a lot to the phones hardware. Or maybe wait for M2 Aqua it will have waterproof and some improoved features and specs.
I went with a z3 instead :P

Eh, I £10 isn't going to make much difference really. Plus its easier to set everything in the shop. And i forgot to mention, mine is the M2 Aqua.
