Hey Chitheads, I accidentally said "rebound and compression" when describing the adjustments on the front fork. This is a terrible mistake, its actually Preload and Compression. I cannot begin to express how terrible I feel about this mistake. Please forgive me, I will do better (most likely I will not do better)
Buddy had me laughing out loud while drinking my coffee this morning. "I'm not a dork"..I ordered the 2024+ cruiser yesterday so I hope you get a chance to review it. Good content brother but please be safe riding. Subcribed!
I've had my Freedom for about a month now and I love it. However, I fully agree with you about two things: A: this is a monster bike in terms of weight and size and NOT suitable for small framed individuals or elderly folks B: the front fender/light attachment is absolutely atrocious and needs to be corrected immediately. I fixed it to my satisfaction, but you shouldn't have to MacGyver a brand new bike. Otherwise, a great bike!
@@kmkhr I used a larger diameter bolt with a serious torque nut. I also applied a little epoxy paste at the contact point between the fender and the fork to prevent it from swinging left to right. Works great so far!
Been waiting for this, thanks. And your humor gets you a like from me ;). Agree with you on gearing. I don't go for clickbait titles but I understand many do. Or maybe it will melt my face off. At least you used humor so thumbs up for that!
Hey Chithead. I saw a youtube video by wired freedom owner that put rubber spacers he bought @ Home Depot for the fenders. He was able to STOP the noise it was making. I'll send you the video. Keep the fenders on!
I like the way the fenders look, but I don't need the rear rack and if I remove that there is no provision to mount the fender anymore so sadly I gotta get rid of them. The 2023 cruiser you can keep the fender without the rack so I left it on that bike.
Very cool review, actual knowledge and experience, comedy, and awesome terrain. I keep your motto in mind during my daily commute when things get too routine. I’m 49 and started riding to work on my e-bike in August 2023 and I definitely feel healthier and happier. I need a back up bike and the wired would be my choice. Thanks and keep it unrestricted.
Fender: Go to auto parts store and buy some spray-on rubberized undercoating. Treat the underside of fender with several coats. This should reduce the "bell" effect when hit by rocks Pedal strikes: Shorter cranks might work to eliminate. But, seriously, Wired should have done better.
I just assembled my Freedom today!!!! Will take it out tomorrow for its "Shake Down Cruise"... I swapped out the pedals for half platform one side, clip in the other for full crank rotation and better work out, smaller pedal less pedal strike while turning. Might swap handlebars out for a lower rise and longer stem. Took off fenders, headlight and rack.. Gorilla Taped the taillight to the frame until I can figure out whether to just cut the wires or mount it to frame. Will install Talus Armor.. Interested in gearing it lower as I don't need to go 40mph, would rather gear it to climb steep grades while off roading!!! Thanks for making great content!!! No CHOT!!! You do a great job!!!! “The song of my people” - Scrape 😂😂😂 Loved your review and will be using your link right now. I will probably follow your recommendations for a shorter drivetrain and may try to find some shorter cranks. I don’t plan on riding this like a motorcycle, looking at it more for slower two track and gravel travel.
The pedals don't bother me enough to get shorter cranks. Just have to be aware of it and avoid pedaling in certain situations. I appreciate the link usage! You will like the bike, they are great for a multipurpose , you will be able to go most places on it for sure.
Hey bro, thanks for the detailed review of the Wired Freedom. Please keep the video's coming. I still insist that the wired freedom should had come with a key fob for starting and stop. It's been very cold here in New Jersey, so I've been unable to ride my Wired Freedom, I might not be able to ride until April by then we'll have 60 degrees. You should look into purchasing a ramp to move your bike up and down those stains. I bought a ramp from Amazon, it's 10 foot long.
Totally agree about 20-25mph speeds, and it needs lower gearing, and I hate the pedal drag. Love this bike though! Hard pressed to find a better deal at 2k. Amazing power, and amazing battery. Please show how you relocate your brake light. Can't wait to take the rack & fender off.
you need more air in the shock tim. it will raise you up a little. also tighten those headlight bolts down until they feel like they are going to snap and use blue locktite and star washers. it will never move much again. thinking about your gearing situation and being a big heavy dude maybe think about shorter crank arms. that would kill two birds with one stone. pedal strikes and better granny gear. then you don't have to shorten the chain.
Cool video, and I have a soft spot for this bike. The cadence sensor kicking in slow is due to the controller programming and the number of magnets on the trigger wheel. I actually had to slow down response on mine because it would kick the motor on before my pedals took the slack out of the chain. The railroad test was awesome, and if I did that on my hardtail, I'd have the seat post where it doesn't belong!!
I live in Canada. Anyone know if customs will give me trouble crossing into Canada with one purchased in the states since they currently are not available in Canada?
One of my real concerns is the 'flex' in the front forks. I think I will upgrade the forks. I have the 2023 FREEDOM. And I relocated the controller so the rear tire wouldn't keep hitting it.
Does your bike also have the unbranded front fork? I think it might be a Mozo, but not sure. The RST Guide fork is pretty nice, no real complaints with it so far.
I started watching your channel originally because I think white is the best color for the Freedom and you have a bunch of content on it. I will be ordering one soon using your link. I’m so glad I found your channel. Love the content and you crack me up. Watching your videos really cheer me up. Thank you! I can’t wait to get the Freedom. I do wish it was a bit smaller. I’m only 5’6”. I’m 8 feet tall at heart though so I should be fine.
Great review -- thanks! What do you think about the brakes? Strong enough for a heavy bike like this at almost 40mph? Would you swap out calipers or rotors?
The brakes are pretty good, they stop the bike. I wouldn't trust them on any prolonged downhill sections, but for how this bike should be ridden they work well. Haven't felt the need to upgrade them.
Awesome review sir! Does the battery life work as described? Also, with all the off-roading, any flats? Second, how to setup the suspension? Last, what air pressures in the tires?
I was using Tannus Armour inserts for flats, but recently switched to Flat Out so no issues with flats and I usually run 15-18psi. I made a video on how to setup the suspension. It's fairly easy to do but it requires a high pressure air pump.
like many, I dont typically watch entire videos, BUT I did here. Great info and Great riding terrain you have there, looks fun. Im a newby to ebikes, 6'1" 195lb, looking for a comfortable cruiser / light off road, fast bike. I may have found it with this? Thanks for the info
I think this bike will fit that bill. Its great for all around use and you can do some trails but wouldn't go crazy with the offroad stuff. I've been using my Wired bike to commute to the gym which is 6 miles one way trip. They are pretty useful bikes
Hey good break down video but do u think if i had that bike on the highest gear would I be able to get a workout riding it because I like to feel the bike resistance at 18-23mph and not ghost pedaling
You can get a workout on this bike if you want to. I typically use PAS 3 and find that will go in the 20-25 range if you consistently pedal, it wont do it for you like some of the other pedal assist setups E-bikes use.
Would switching out the bmx bars to mountain bike bars be a better option? I like the aggressive style of mountain bike bars and the bmx bars seem to be to upright.
I think part of the reason they gear it so high is due to ghost pedaling which would be resolved with a torque sensor, but you would still need to lower the physical gearing to something lower.
No mine doesn't. I would make sure your wheel is seated all the way in the dropout. Sometimes the tube can cause part of the tire bead to push off the wheel and make things out of balance as well. If you rotate the tire and look at it spinning sometimes you can tell if something is out of whack
@shootthechit ...I used to be strong...now old (59 next week) and I lost about 125 lbs last year...and a lot of strength. Stronger than most...buy u know...strength is a drug......
The pedal scrapping can be remedied some by horizontally leveling the peddles when turning. One would have to coast through a turn and not peddle though. I like the videos. 😊
Good review. I was seriously considering one of these bikes, but you pointed out a few deal breakers for me. Bad shifter & rear derailleur(I shift a lot), pedal strikes way too easily, delay in the pedal assist with the cadence sensor. I also don't think the battery is big enough for a high-power bike like this. That high-wattage motor will burn up the battery no doubt. I like to ride long distances.
As of now there is no "perfect" bike and if you look almost all of them have this same shifter and derailer combo. Wired at the moment is king of the hill, but who knows how long that will last. It would be cool to see a bike with a 2k watt hour battery, but it would probably weigh 100lbs at that point.
@@shootthechit I've been shopping on a higher scale cost-wise. Bancou, Biktrix, Cyrusher, etc. Those bikes can give me most of what I want, just at a higher cost. I was interested in the Freedom for its speed. I could probably live with most of the problems, but those pedals were striking way too easily. That's an accident waiting to happen for me since I pedal all the time and lean into curves/turns.
The pedals don’t strike easily at all. I have not hit mine once. If you are experienced at riding and cornering you will be fine, just keep your pedals neutral as you corner
The owner told me the light on the front you have to tighten BOTH sides he says all FOUR screws need to be tight. Both pairs on either side of the light.
Just a suggestion coming from mountain biking and using e-bikes when you turn into a left turn your left leg should be up and your right leg should be down to counter the balance and you lean in and you wing your leg outward you also lean the bike outward with your arms so that you lean the bike downward and your body is still up vertical with all your weight on that right leg and there should never even be an option for pedal strike because the pedal is in the air that's the proper way to turn on a bike in vice versa leg position opposite on a right turn check out mountain biking videos when people are taking a berm turn you will see exactly what I'm talking about the same thing applies for Street riding or any other riding the only time you should pedal strike if the pedals are actually too low is when you're going over rocks and the crank arm is too long and the pedal is bottom out on some rocks and if that's the case then you just change the crank arm length to shorter crank arms otherwise it's about technique of turning
Great video! Im also not a dork. lmao. well maybe? I wonder if they put longer crank arms on them to help leverage from the larger front chain ring? That would make pedal strikes. I am a dork on that but not enough to know if you can buy shorter ones? And if you are gearing it down it wont hurt to get shorter ones if possible. I also agree on you wanting to do that. Mine is a weird 23 version 2 model with really all the fixes fixed but without the fancy suspension. I think I have a 52 chainring?. I was really looking into finding a rear cassette with the biggest granny gear. I havent. I havent had pedal strick whether Im not driving where it would or it dont happen as much idk? I did bent my front brake rotor and instead of replacing it I thought why not just upgrade it to 203mm. It was my fault for ruining original. I love mine though! Oh also the front wheel shaking back and forth did happen to my wired. I wonder if its because the front fork slop like you showed in your video. I wired has the same as you cruiser. Love the vid! TY
I think the front fork issue on the cruiser is due to the headtube angle being too steep on that bike.. thats my theory at least. I'm pretty sure you can get shorter crank arms , just a matter of swapping them out. I found the 11-34 chainring on Amazon, I think the cruiser comes with a 11-28 stock so that will help a bit. Haven't found one bigger than a 34 though
My 2024 Freedom was ordered in APR & was due to ship at end May, then postponed for the bonuses till end June. When it showed up the UPS man asked me to help get off truck its so heavy. The top of the box was ripped off from middle to 1 end with many holes along sides. It looked like a bear attacked it. When I opened it up I immediately saw many scratches in paint. I was bout to put together when I noticed no tool for handlebars or manual to put this together. So I went on their chat help & in the end it came missing manuals, tool,2nd battery charger, touch up paint, headlight, & PEDALS... so they send me the accessory box which took 4 days (mind you I took my vaca from work for the day of the delivery) & its missing the touch up paint. From this point on the Wired customer service chat was unhelpful & rude. I asked them how the batteries work is it frame batt till drained then rear kicks in? & they said it was a 'blendid' function that draws off both... So I told them that i purposely drained my batt to 60% on display & when went to charge both only the rear was at 60% while frame batt was 100%, so its not blending.... I like to pedal so I turn the motor options off (set to 0) & quickly found out that gears 1-6 make the chain skip on every rotation... They told me to take it to a bike shop for a derailer adjustment or watch a youtube vid on how do it myself...2400.00+shipping & this is the product I got & customer service to go with it FUCK WIRED
Been eying this bike for a while but felt like it was a bit too expensive due to the fact that they charge almost $300 for shipping (which doesn't get revealed until checkout). Being a true believer in competition I was happy to discover yesterday that E-Cells has come out with this bike's twin brother, Five Star. Nearly identical from what I've been able to find out so far but about $300 cheaper since the aforementioned shipping is free on this one. With the demand for the Wired Freedom being what it is expect to see more direct competition in the near future.
It was bound to happen at some point, especially since a lot of these E-bike companies use the same components on their bikes. What I can tell you is Wired is a solid company and offers great support so I kinda factor that into the price as well. Will be interesting to see how they respond.
Used to be companies couldn't charge your card until they actually ship the product. Now? These ebike companies take your money and you'll get your bike....well, who knows when?
I live in Canada & the Freedom is not sold or shipped to Canada. Curious if any Canadians purchased one and had no trouble getting across the border with it? Love To go south of the border and buy one but would hate customs disallow it into Canada.
Hey if you get this bike across the boarder let me know. I am in Canada 🇨🇦 too wanting to buy this bike and afraid customs won’t let me bring the bike into Canada. Canada Ebike laws don’t allow Ebike motors no bigger than 500 watts, sad.
I really would love to own one of these, I'm looking to buy another E-bike as soon as possible because I cracked the frame of my daily. The pre-order option on the Wired website has me shying away a bit. I don't mind a wait of two weeks or something like that but I would like to have a replacement as soon as possible. I won't want to buy it at a later date so it's either I go for it now or look at other brands that I could possibly buy locally. None of those brands come close to the specs of the Wired Freedom though.
Unfortunately most bikes at the level of the Wired have a wait involved. In my opinion it's the best time of the year to have a wait since the weather (at least here) hasn't been the best for riding.
@@shootthechit yea that's true although the winter hasn't stopped me. I have winter riding gear so I've still been riding almost daily but obviously haven't since the frame crack happened. I don't know, I like the bike but am ready to get back to riding. I'll see if I get a response email from them tomorrow about estimated shipping time.
The pre-order is gone. I just ordered my Freedom today, and spoke with the Owner. If you are OK with the Black, or Blue paint, they're in stock. The gorgeous metallic copper models WILL require a wait. I loved the blue, so I ordered mine, and if not tomorrow, the bike will be on its way on Monday three days from now. Best wishes on getting yours asap.
Great review video, although you of all people should know that pedal strikes are part of the "unrestricted" life style. Tell me about the tires on the Aventon, I'm very interested.
Yes, Pedal strikes just help remind you that you are alive! The Aventon in the video is a Level from a few years ago, it has 27.5 inch tires, I think they are 2 inch wide.
Gonna whole heartedly agree with you on speed discussion at about 11:15. I admit to being entertained by Surron and Talaria vids, but in shopping for a bike I never wanted more than 30-32mph top speed, and really only want that so that 25mph is “easy” for the bike. If I wanted more than that I’d have looked at motorcycles. I have an Eahora Juliet that can get to 31mph when it has a full battery, but I typically limit it to 25mph on side streets using the PAS settings. It’s pretty insane crazy to be going full on motorcycle speeds on a bicycle with bike tires and brakes.
And at 18:20 when you talk about pedal strikes, that is one of the things I noticed the most going from a completely legal 20mph class 2 bike to a cheating 25-30mph bike. You lean into turns more due to having more speed, which causes pedal strikes. I have to be very careful on my newer bikes not to wipe myself this way.
I chose the Freedom for the same reason. It's nice to know I've got speed in reserve, but I'll be at 25 mph for the most part. This bike hit all the boxes for me, especially the larger size. I'm a fairly large man, and I didn't want to look like I was on a child's bike. I'll gladly take a little bit more weight on the bike. Just ordered my blue Freedom today. Excited to try it out, and see for myself what all the great reviews have been buzzing about.
@@BrandonSorenson-fb3gg I actually wear a DOT approved motorcycle helmet when on my 30mph ebike. It's a half helmet rather than a full face helmet, but it IS a motorcycle helmet.
I literally just wrecked 2 hours ago in hospital now just for check ups i should be good but just to double check. Car pulled out in front of me i was in bike lane they turned in front of me to make a right, couldnt stop im doing close to 40 had a second or two to slam brakes but i went over handle bars, so far just bruised cut up knees legs and very sore neck. Just did cat scans
@@shootthechit cat scans came back all fine just scrapes and abdominal contusion and on knees and sore neck. Bike seems fine just scraped up and handles bars are pushed forward completely flat probably from me flying over and into them. I think that’s where I bruised my abdomen is from my lower half going into the handle bars. But I went completely off my bike and into and over the car into the road. I ended up a good 6-10 feet from my bike
The Chaz is the UA-camrs name. THe video is " How to eliminate the rattling on your rear fender on your WIRED fREEDOM E BIKE." and he goes into detail about the rubber washer size to use.
That’s why you save up for the ecells 5 star coming out in April,im also tall they have a 17 inch bike will be easer to get on and off, same components only better and their controller is even better. Don’t get me wrong wired is a phenomenal machine. However, there’s a new kid in town and the shipping is free.😊
Nobody should be riding this bike at 40mph... I just got it and have only rode it a few times...Absolutely love it!!!.I have mine currently set at a maximum of 35mph only because i dont want the motor to see more than the rated wattage. After watching this video i am going to reset the maximum speed down to 30mph.....Plenty fast!!!!
If you read through the webpage you’ll see that the motor is actually limited to 750 watts from the factory to comply with class 2 classifications. You can go past that by going into off-road/unrestricted mode.
I'm going to, but I wanted to leave them on for the review! I do like the way they look, but since I don't ride in rain or mud they don't server much of a purpose
I hate the Tourney too, to much chain slap, on a 7 speed I replace them with the Flat Face and increase the length of the chin, almost silent after that.
@@shootthechit always had good luck with the Flat Face though, I use them on my Fat bike too which sees a lot of snow and road salt, cheap to replace when it rusts out.
Dork here! Great video, epic bench pr! I was bracing myself for that high speed turn you were doing! Now you just need jfly In the comments section to make this a legit wired ebike video.

Would switching out the bmx bars to mountain bike bars be a better option? I like the aggressive style of mountain bike bars and the bmx bars seem to be to upright.
ah man, the BMX bars are the best part. I've seen people swap them out, thats all personal preference
Amen to the 11-spd cassette.
That Detour reminded me of a scene in Deathproof.
Informative review.
Sadly, they don't seem to sell white bikes, and are out of black. So I guess I'll wait and see.
the gear ratio is would be resolved with a torque sensor instead of cadence, right?
I think part of the reason they gear it so high is due to ghost pedaling which would be resolved with a torque sensor, but you would still need to lower the physical gearing to something lower.
Does the front wheel seem wobbly to you? Mine is brand new and the frnt tire seems not true, its like warped
No mine doesn't. I would make sure your wheel is seated all the way in the dropout. Sometimes the tube can cause part of the tire bead to push off the wheel and make things out of balance as well. If you rotate the tire and look at it spinning sometimes you can tell if something is out of whack
As always...Great video! And great honest review...and kudos to power...nice Bench......🦵💪🚴♂️
Thanks, I can tell you are a fellow lifter as well
@shootthechit ...I used to be strong...now old (59 next week) and I lost about 125 lbs last year...and a lot of strength. Stronger than most...buy u know...strength is a drug......
@shootthechit ...this just hit me...thank you for watching! 🙏
The pedal scrapping can be remedied some by horizontally leveling the peddles when turning. One would have to coast through a turn and not peddle though. I like the videos. 😊
It is easy enough to avoid but it sucks not being able to pedal around corners.
Have you looked at the Zooz UF1200? 24 inch wheels, 3.2 inch wide tires, Bmx style full suspension. 52v 25 amp hour battery. More $ however.
Interesting, first I've heard of it. Will check it out today
How did you get in White? It’s not even on there website!!
Can i use my spare 48v batteries? They are the same style.
no, it can only use a 60v battery
Is that a 19" frame or 17"?
WIred only has one size frame and I'm not sure what it would translate to as far as inches. Its big though I will tell you that much
@shootthechit ,I would normally think 17 would be standard and 19 would be special 🤔 so maybe it's a 17?
The owner told me the light on the front you have to tighten BOTH sides he says all FOUR screws need to be tight. Both pairs on either side of the light.
So if you just want to go for a ride and pedal it like a bicycle to get some exercise, how does it pedal?
It pedals nice, but would NOT want to do it if the battery is dead. These bikes are heavy and geared very high, so its not a good combo
@@shootthechit 👍
That's a nice $2.000 bell... I'm about to get mine ASAP
Nice! Use the link in the description to buy it! lol
Another great video by you. You were meant to do these video's
Nice review. Which part of the country are you in?
I'm in the San Francisco bay area.
Nice review. I like your helmet. What brand?
It's the Retrospec Remi, I have a link to it in the description. Lots of people ask about the helmet!
Beutiful place to ride, may I ask what city this is?
Antioch Ca
"I'm not a dork" 🤣🦃💨
I literally laughed out loud on that and my dog looked at me. LMAO
dude ...love the contra code nostalgic joke...plus a 100 other... i alwasy crack that joke.. im 39
@@shootthechit,
Thanks for the response. They look like street tires, what brand are they please, they look great.
They are Kenda Kwick Drumlin 27.5 x 2.25 @@eustacecourage7478
Not to mention a bike HELMET most of these things are rated at 28mph max
@@BrandonSorenson-fb3gg I actually wear a DOT approved motorcycle helmet when on my 30mph ebike. It's a half helmet rather than a full face helmet, but it IS a motorcycle helmet.
Lol!!! I remember that code. Contra!!!!!
Quit your excessive smoking and drinking and you'll have no problem on the hills!! Great vid btw.

At 13:16, I bet he hit the gate, hence the edit. At 23:00, you're standing in front of a pair of loudspeakers, are they Infinity's?
E CELL 5 STAR!!
Straight up nice rare these days didn't give recharge time or what amps the charger is or if you can go to a tesla supercharger station lol
I consistently hit 41 mph on flat road when battery is near full. I weigh 215. Its hard to tell but i may have tail wind
Nice, I will try again on a full battery next time around.
Driver was found at fault i had witnesses luckily.
@@user-oy9zy4ds9m Dang dude, good thing you are OK. How did the bike end up?
@@shootthechit cat scans came back all fine just scrapes and abdominal contusion and on knees and sore neck. Bike seems fine just scraped up and handles bars are pushed forward completely flat probably from me flying over and into them. I think that’s where I bruised my abdomen is from my lower half going into the handle bars. But I went completely off my bike and into and over the car into the road. I ended up a good 6-10 feet from my bike
So will they sell me a white bike?
It’s Called A Torque Sensor. It Accelerates As Fast As You Pedal
If you had a second battery, And put a more powerful controller on you’d pick up your speed considerably.
“I don’t know what grade this hill is… because I’m not a dork.” 😂
I'm melting...gonna get me one. Rip those fenders off!
I'm going to, but I wanted to leave them on for the review! I do like the way they look, but since I don't ride in rain or mud they don't server much of a purpose
@@shootthechit so really how did you get a white one?
I hate the Tourney too, to much chain slap, on a 7 speed I replace them with the Flat Face and increase the length of the chin, almost silent after that.
Its also super flimsy and gets bent with the slightest contact with anything. Can't tell you how many times mid ride its come out of adjustment.
@@shootthechit always had good luck with the Flat Face though, I use them on my Fat bike too which sees a lot of snow and road salt, cheap to replace when it rusts out.
What exactly is the "Flat Face" derailleur?
@@eddwil7 Shimano Inkesky RD-TZ31-GS, ,
will work on a 8 speed too,
Is this bike street legal?
I'll order one when they learn how to weld
Where I live, bikes are subjected to the same rules as other vehicles. So you can not run red lights, etc.
We are supposed to stop at lights, but almost nobody does. I do it on a case by case basis
With 2000-3000w bike you want 56t/40t front combo. Yes that means f derailer...
You also need a long cage r derailer for all the extra chain.
I believe they went to a 56 tooth to eliminate ghost peddling.
Wired tried too hard to win the top speed war and instead made a bike that can only go fast and not be pedaled without assistance
Dork here! Great video, epic bench pr! I was bracing myself for that high speed turn you were doing! Now you just need jfly In the comments section to make this a legit wired ebike video.
Just say his name 3 times and he will show up!
