- I can't believe she's in the water! We're officially living aboard our sailboat and it feels so good! Finally, after 6 months of hard work getting her ready, plus 5 years of getting ourselves ready, it is time to begin this adventure. I really hope you enjoy this sneak peek into our first 24 hours on the water, living aboard our 1976 Hallberg Rassy Rasmus 35. We have so much to learn and have a big summer of skill-building ahead of us, but for now, we're soaking in the sunrises and sunsets, the sound of the water, and wind in our hair!

If you turn the engine on the dinghy all the way round- that’s reverse! But you’ve probably worked that out by now. We bought a Hallberg Rassy Monsun 31 from 1974 a couple of years ago and it’s so weird to see your boat- so similar!

Thank you both so so much!!! It's been such a crazy last few months getting her ready, but pretty wild to finally be living on a boat. Have to say though van life prepped us pretty well for this lifestyle. Who knows maybe we'll see you two on the water one day?!?!?!

I actually cried in the beginning. Been with you for about five years and I’m so happy to see you enjoying your lives so much, and also one another. What you have is special and unique, don’t ever let anything or anyone ruin it.
Sailing is one of our dreams too, along with having a little house by the sea. We made one dream come true, now we just have to find a boat, so that we could offer our baby boy a dream childhood.

Nothing like that moment when your heavy humongous boat on the hard, transforms into a graceful ballerina as soon as it is in the water. It never gets old, the transformation of a boat being relaunched.

The strength you all have to pursue your dreams and be methodic and logical, in order to achieve them is SO freaking inspiring. Nothing is out of reach. It's just problem solving. It makes me wonder : What am I waiting for? When do I start? How do I proceed? Makes me think I actually just could... Thank you so much for sharing this journey with the world.
G’day mates, in order to keep your pots from falling off the stove when the waters begin getting rough, tossing and turning, in high seas ~ get a Gimbal conversion kit for your stove. It’s not a lot of work, but it’s totally worth it. You can also.buy a Gimballed 2 or 3 burner stove with or without an oven. However, if that’s not an option, the gimball conversion kit works fine. It allows your stovetop (pots & pans), to move with the waves, so you don’t spill anything off your stovetop. You can also buy used gimballed stoves at very reasonable prices, ready to go! I have a Force 10, Gimballed, three burner stove w/ oven and grill and it’s truly one of the best investments we ever made to our catamaran; besides our marine solar panels and solar charging system. I highly recommend going solar when you’re ready. Having all the extra power in reserve, is truly amazing. Best of luck and more importantly, cherish each day together! That stove has a gimbal from the factory but the pot holders are not great.
On our Rasmus the previous owners modified the system with potholders from a different stove and clamps welded on with thumbscrews made from wing nuts. Huge improvement
We replaced this old dangerous orange bomb with a Force-10 which is a night & day improvement. They are $1200, but worth every penny. The stove is something that is used 3-5 times a day for coffee, tea, cocoa, and meals. Make cruising life easier on yourselves and get one. Get rid of the easybake oven bomb with no safety auto-shutoff. Ours was really rusted-out inside when we took it out and disassembled it for the dumpster. I was shocked as it didn't look bad at all from the outside.
SV Barry Duckworth 👍 Like I said, my Force 10 Gimballed stove, w/ 3 burners, oven, and grill, was one of the best investments we’ve made to our catamaran. The stove that came with our Lagoon catamaran was nice. However, having the extra burner, and the larger oven, makes cooking a lot easier and fun. It’s certainly not a chore anymore to cook. It’s enjoyable and relaxing. I know my wife absolutely loves it. Cheers mate! Safe passages!!!
I happen to know that the stove works well, is gimballed, and has clamps to keep the pots engaged while underway.

That dinner looks delish. I know you guys have done a "what I eat in a day" video but could you guys do a more comprehensive video about how you think about meals and put stuff together? I would have never thought to put anything like that in a salad before.

Very excited for you. My only worry would be having the 3 of you living aboard full time, I can imagine in time it could get very difficult having two guys in such a small space both vying to be captain. Especially when one has lots of boat experience and the other is the husband and wants to provide and share experiences alone with his partner. Hope it doesn't end in tears

Your stove/oven should be on a gimbal. This allows it to swing with the heeling of the boat. Look and see if there is a sliding latch that locks it into place. Unlock that and it should be able to swivel. This allows it to remain upright when the boat is heeling. Love your videos. Found you through my daughter who bought your book.
