This tutorial is extremely helpful to me, but not for helping with troubleshooting. It is an excellent practical guide for confirming a proper midi instrument setup! Reason being, the best way to understand proper operation and correct settings is to recreate errors. I've had a lot of training and experience with flight simulators, detection equipment, commercial aircraft, and Space And Defense equipment. Completing training in nearly all of those areas involved simulated real world problem solving very much how you presented it in this tutorial.

Midi is most certainly (for me anyway) the most frustrating part of working in a DAW. This solved half of my problem, so hopefully, I can figure out the rest. What is really helpful about this video is that I had no idea there were so many places you could manipulate the midi inputs/outputs. Now that I know they are there, it gives me the ability to try and troubleshoot it myself. Thank you!

I was! I had a another program open and it was playing what I did, but delayed. As soon as I closed Finale, it worked perfectly. Again, this was a great video, thank you!

How do you find that MPK Mini controller? In particular, how are the pads for playing drums? Typically I find pads either laggy, or lacking in dynamic range.
Hey can I drop my old logic sounds in studio ones sampler? not sure what form they were in apple or PC my logic software had both.
I have Studio One 4 and a Novation Impulse 49. I added a track with Impact XT and now I can't stop the keyboard from playing Impact! The blue monitor button is off on the impact track. The only way I have found to stop it playing percussion as well as the instrument I want it to play is to turn impact off on the track. Anyone got any suggestions?
Been having a similar issue. No sound but all signals were good. It ended up being I had to check Program Change in the device settings.

Hello, studio one 5, akai mpk 3. Not connecting at all, did it all in the control panel of daw and scaler 2. Please help ?
HELP!! Total newbie here and that didn’t help my midi issue; has anyone else experienced the following; midi sound dropout after editing another midi track on the song?
First time using S1 3 I edited a midi track from a list of recorded midi tracks (using APBL II and qwerty keyboard) and when I tried to listen to the final edit with all tracks included, only the edited track had audio. The guitar track is signaling, but without audio. No mute enabled and I’ve got the right plugin.
What did I do wrong? I imagine I messed up at a certain step, but after days of searching manuals and the web - no answer. Help!!!

Please help that little 💡 at the bottom turns on when i hit the midi keyboard but in the options it says not connected i try multiple controllers and the same, its not detecting any controller 100% just that signal 💡
I get sound everything looks right but when I go to record and I play the notes it does not capture them my track is still blank but I can hear it when I play them

this will help me, i'm having this problem, also this mini is mixing all vst inst, together. ex- presence tr 1guitar,presence tr2 bass,mai tai tr3 keyboard,impact tr 4 drums my mini cont, will mix all these sounds together at once, only during the performance the recording in studio one records one vst at a time as it should, this mini akai mixes all of these tracks (sounds) at once, they all will play at the same time its very confusing to listen to. do you have any suggestions? thanks
It was also my problem last night. Im a studio one artist user and never encounter this before. My laptop got broken then my aunt gave me macbook but older version but still works amazing, then I moved to reaper due to system req. But now my windows starts working agin which is wierd, I then download studio one 3 back. Just go to Preferences > Midi > then change manufacturers name or so, then click all channels, chnge the ins and outs and lastly check the two boxes. Thats what Ive done last night. Im about to go crazy but then I watched TV then back on it gain after few minutes. Decided to mess with it again then boom! It works for me. Hope this helps!

Ty. This helps. But I'm having a terrible time right now with my midi setup. No wonder all these last month's of having presonus..I have not got any beats completed. My keyboard midi I cannot understand how to setup everything on it. My mpd24 my F3 slider does not work on my pad or in midi but like your problem.. it is signaling but it is not showing up in my midi channels. But also when I play my instruments from impact and on.. I'm sometimes not getting any audio or if I play 1 instrument. It plays a 2 at the same time and my record button is off. It's annoying. Pls help.
Nastassia, I'd love to help, but due to the large volume of questions I get here, I think it'd be a bit beyond the scope of what I can do in this situation. There could be any number of problems and it's hard to say what could be going on without seeing your setup.

I also record midi. When I play it's sounds well but when I check it's not clear...or not functioning well
so I am ha ing an issue with my midi is and I was wondering if u could help? when I record midi using any vst I can here what I am playing while I'm recording and I can see the midi info in the piano editor but when I press play to listen to what I recorded nothing happens most of the time. and when I do here anything it is usually just 1 note here and there and not the whole chord progression that I played. would you happen to know how to fix this?
If you open the instrument part that has been recorded in the editor, do you see all of the notes that you have recorded?
Quanta yes I see it. I actually fixed it. thank you tho!!! my midi controller was doubling up the notes so it was co using it not to play. I just factory reset my midi
I rarely use logics soft sample just recording and mixing
my sound driver being used while watching this video is asio for all, im not using my interface at the time, ,, moving between studio 1 and my web browser i notice my controller (same as your mpk mini) doesnt work while this driver is being used,,, so i changed the sound driver to windows and the controller works,, only down fall is that this change in driver causes video and audio to be disabled on the browser ?!?
Had the same issue. I had to use a different USB and headphone to listen to the browser.
hi I just got a new masterkey 61 but the configuration of external device doesnt seem to work- can't get the "send to" button to be just like the "receive from"button as it only shows to have nothing in the "send to"part .. please help
Hey, Natalie. So, with some MIDI keyboards the "send to" is not available as an option. This just means that they may not include hardware features like illuminated drum pads, rotary encoders, etc. that would make use of the "send to" parameter. Briefly looking at an image of the Masterkey 61, I think that this is probably normal for this keyboard - there's nothing wrong.

I have the MPK mostly for it's portability. I also use the Nektar LX25 and would recommend this over the MPK mini - mainly for it's larger keys - if portability is not your biggest concern. I have done reviews on both:

Hi mybee you can help me too. Ich have reinstalled Studio one 2 Artist on a Windows 10 PC fro my son.It´s a version a bought years before. Now my son wanted to make music himself ( i have S1/6 Prof. on my PC). So the point is : We´re triggering the midi via an old keyboard with midi (in/out). Between Keyb. and PC we have the M-Audio Uno connector. So far so good i can see the midi notes comming in in the left corner like you showed in S1 . But no instrument ist playing notes/sounds. If i click via mouse on the instrument in S1 it makes the sounds. So what can be wrong that the midi (what`s coming ) doesn´t reach to the instrument? I have a video but i can´t upload it. Hopefully you've already resolved your issue, but I would double-check that Record Arm and Monitoring are turned on for the instrument track. And I would also set the input for the channel to "All Inputs".
i have a similar problem however everything works and it shows every key is working because of the light and the volume goes up but I can't hear any notes or even audio with my mic. help please! both my mic and midi are usb (midi: LPK25)

You need to go to the options menu and lower the latency/buffer within the "audio device" tab.

My midi won't show up on studio
I have a Casio CTK-471 and it shows up and everything but when I try to play with the midi keyboard nothing happens, the light at the bottom doesn't even come on when I play anything, I have no idea what to do. Please help me!
you won't believe what the issue i had was - i had unselected 'input instrument follows section' at some point. the monitor button wasn't by default enabled on the track if i clicked on it - so i had the midi monitor logging notes but no meter on the instrument track. if anyone has this, make sure the damn monitor button is enabled!!! long day....and im just losing my mind. crazy.

Have a keyboard with a lot more keys than yours. The top half is playing but the bottom half isn't. I'm going to go through some of the things you recommended
Thanks for the video. I'm scratching my head. I have the Free version of Studio One, latest update installed as of 4/16/2017. I have a Novation KS4 synthesizer and a Midi to USB adapter to my Acer Windows 7 laptop and I added a New keyboard to external devices. I can see all the Midi reactions the way you describe as functioning properly. I have a Presence setup. I can see the Midi notes on/off. I don't have the problem with the note erase you had. I added a drum loop that I can hear if I hit play. I can record data into the Presence from the keyboard. My volume is on full for Windows Audio. I tried reconnecting. I hit playback and I hear nothing from that track. I don't hear any notes playing when I hit the keyboard even though I can see the key shadows on and off. And I can see the level bar going full up and down. If I click on the Audio pulldown menu, all are grayed out. Spent two hours on this and no joy. My only choices on instrument choices are Presence and Input Filter.
With a little more research and piddling, I found a link that discussed besides adding the New Keyboard, I would have to also create a New Instrument. I did get the QWERTY keyboard to play sounds. Either that or my KS4 Midi commands may be far too complex for the DAW to understand. It is a very complex synthesizer. Not particularly a Midi controller keyboard. Maybe I will just forget all this and simply play the synth and record it through my RC-300 Looper which is pretty versatile with USB out and a wide variety of inputs. It was already automatically recognized as an Audio device. Or maybe I will just buy a cheap Midi type keyboard that's on the list, if I want to take advantage of the patches in Studio One.
