  • Hey everyone!
In 2019, Chris Paddack was one of the best rookies in the league. He seemed poised for a larger role in the Padres rotation. However, last season, Paddack took a complete 180 in terms of production. What Happened?

Idk why fans always think this. It's not like Darvish throws insane pitches with secret techniques. There are many reasons why certain pitchers can't develop more than two or three pitches, and having big-arsenal teammates is not one of them.

I was thinking about a move to the bullpen for Paddack last week and I think he could become a dominant reliever if it comes to that. Still, would be great to see him turn things around and develop a 3rd and 4th pitch.

It's a little too soon to say anything definite, but I kind of wish Darren Balsey was back as the pitching coach in the majors. He always seemed to help the pitching staff over perform their talent level. Rothschild on the other hand with the Yankees had a lot of talent and resources given to his rotation and bullpen, and they didnt seem to overperform expectations. Sonny gray being a big example of this. I can't help but wonder how DB would do with all this talent we have this year.

Padres fan Chris Paddack is actually the first jerseys i have for any MLB pitcher and hes one of my favorites among active pitchers. And with Bauer in LA we really need to help Paddack 🙏🏾. Then again i think thats why Yu Darvish is there as well he once had a similar arsenal to Paddack. Also im suprised you didn't compare to numbers to Gray when he was with the Yankees. Because he had similar numbers as Paddack. Pleas bring back a better Chris Paddack than 2020 and 2019🙏🏾.

I'm a big fan of the guy and want him to do well. I saw an analysis of Kris Bryant that used a hr-atbat vs Paddack. It was obvious what pitches Bryant sat vs which ones he went after. Chris will have to learn how to approach different hitters and their patterns. Maybe Mike Cleavenger (sp?) and Darvish can give him some veteran tips. And as of my writing, he is 2-5 with a 4.27 era. I'm rooting for him.

So he’s Tyler Glasnow but with a plus changeup instead of a plus curveball. Glasnow is now developing a cutter-slider as a legitimate third option, and has a changeup that like Paddack’s curve he hardly uses. Will be interesting to see what Paddack does about his similar issue.

I think it's gotta be his ego. He was a monster in 2019 and he knew it. However, he kept that mindset going into 2020, which can be good at times, but during the season he refused to adapt. He thought his pitches could work, but hitters had already started learning how obvious they were. If he can develop another solid pitch, increase spin rate, and humble himself out by learning to adapt, he can become a monster again.
