- Hey everyone!
Aroldis Chapman is a pitcher that is a considered a pioneer in the current crop of power pitchers. Before Chapman, the power pitching reliever was not as commonplace as it is today. Chapman was one of the first in the modern era. However, Chapman's road to the MLB was a journey full of uncertainty, mystique, and hype. Today, we will be going on that journey. I hope you all enjoy the video!

I’d take Chapman yard every time, I’m just built different.
I can tell... your impressive physique must make him tremble and quiver
Yeah ok
Your an idiot
Nolan Ryan
Better , faster , and in control
@@ynot6781 faster??? chapman has to record for fastest pitch
Growing up a big reds fan, my dad woke me up and said “ he’s pitching” I woke up and sprinted to the TV and just said wow
yea. I went to games with my grandfather. I remember begging him not to leave early ( in between 8th and 9th innings) when I thought he was gonna pitch
And that was the extent of his excitement as a reds fan to this day
@@AVar5 yea I remember my grandfather picking me up from kindergarten on the day of his debut. my parents were trying to have me go to a playdate but my grandfather kinda stole me and we went to his debut.
Reminds me of Eric Davis. There was one time when my called me and friends out the back door while we were playing and told us Eric Davis was up with the bases loaded. We looked at each other and ran inside and he hit a grand slam
12:15 I was @ this Game.
Went to SD for that weekend series to check My REDS & Young Chapman.
I actually got on the Jumbo Tron that game. 😉
I honestly don’t know how you don’t have at least 100k subs. Your content has amazing quality keep up the great work.
Cvm thank you!

Here at 4.11k
Couldn’t agree more.
Completly agree!
Yankees in 2010: let’s get him later
Also Yankees in 2016: let’s get him now
Also Yankees in 2016: let’s get him later
Lol well they have him now 😂
And they also have Gleyber Torres. Win win
yeah but Torres should be 2nd base rn. If they don’t resign LeMahieu they better get Didi Back or even Marcus Stroman to be a two way player.(low key Stroman is a good hitter)
Moon Jae-In Stroman grew up near me. Ehh he’s not that good. They are getting Lemahieu back anyway
eh true but they do need pitching staff
Crazy to think that 100 miles an hour was unheard of a decade ago, but now it's pretty much the normal for any bullpen arm and a good amount of starters. Would love to know how many of the 100 mph+ were thrown by left handers and right handers? Gotta think Chapman/Wagner are the only two LHP to regularly hit 100 mph
He was throwing bullets before shooting them
I remember being at the Louisville Bats game when he hit 105 in a game. Even as a kid, I knew that Chapman was something special and that he was gonna have a great career
yea. i was at the game he hit 105 for the reds
Imagine how happy his parents were to finally watch their son during his first major league game, and to see him absolutely dominate!
Seriously the amount of torque he generates with that windup is insane, it almost looks like he’s drifting backwards to the left but that’s not possible
“Lucroy was a rookie and not an all star just yet”
* KevinGohD disagrees *
Holy shit. At 3:54 Bartolo Colon threw a 100 mph fastball during his stint with the Indians. He happened to have thrown it on the day I was born! I’m a White Sox fan and Bart’s time on the South Side was mostly forgettable but how could one hate Big Sexy? Awesome vid my man.
Henry Rowengardner got a standing ovation in his debut
What a classic debut.
Have you ever taken a 100 mph fastball to the arm chances are your an astros
they should have seen that coming. oh, wait.
@@robbieg4700 lol
Chapman's one of my favorites, thanks for the info.
Quality of a channel with millions of subs but how is he so low?
I remember the amount of hype Chapman got when he started to play for the Reds. It was must watch TV if the Reds were on ESPN that week. I remember thinking to myself and to my Dad "Could you imagine if we got him after Mo?" when he pitched at the 2015 All-Star game. 5 months later, he gets traded to the Yankees for a pool of prospects that never panned out. I didn't even hesitate to order a Chapman jersey when they became available. Ever since then, I've rarely missed a night when Chapman is pitching.
yea. i was at the ASG and I'll never forget the faces I saw from the AL dugout when he pitched vs them. they had never seen anything close to him
Just discovered your channel bro you're doing a hell of a job keep up the good work!!
Le BigBadJas thanks!
I know for a damn fact you’re gonna be the next big baseball channel. Your content is truly addictive. Please keep it up, I’ll help spread the word myself if I have to!
One of the only things I remember from science class in high school was that it’s not humanly possible to throw harder than 106 MPH. Chapman hit this once, although many attribute it to a computer rounding error. It was some kind of equation that he showed us. The funny thing is...that was in my chemistry class😂🤦♂️ Anyway great video, man!
That's awesome. There's always something the teacher does or says that we rember years later.
Great video, Sports Storm- def some quality content! I hardly EVER subscribe to new channels, but you got me to hit that button on the very first try! Well done- please keep them coming!!!
It’s been ten years already? Holy cow
I know right? Life’s a trip
as a Cubs fan, I'm happy that Chapman helped win the WS, albeit the hard way. that said, I'm pissed that the Cubs had to give up #1 prospect Gleyber Torres to the Yankees to get him. Torres is a fantastic player
Holy shit Daniel Cabrera, I haven't heard that name in, well, since 2005 likely. Awesome video!
Bryant Steury thank you!
best closer pitcher of all time
This is what what should be in my recommend but I I had to search it up
Love the content, you deserve more! Ill be waiting
You're very informative and enjoy your take on Chapman. I'm now a subscriber!
I know there's a trillion billion UA-cam channels but this guy is underrated
I've played against a guy who threw 100 I poped up lol but I got hit by a 96 mph FB... not fun...
@SAMUEL JACOBOWITZ I played in JuCo and scouts said he threw 100 but he hut me with 96 and in that game he averaged 96-99... many guys throw heat at that age but honestly I didnt see him hit 100 but he hit me with 96
SAMUEL JACOBOWITZ I play in a beer league. Every now and then someone can pump mid to low 90s
SAMUEL JACOBOWITZ a buddy of mine plays on a Boston travel team n he throws 96 mph with a devastating curve n been scouted by the Yankees and marlins but he smokes too much weed lol
@SAMUEL JACOBOWITZ I played with a high schooler who threw 100 on the mound
Excellent data
Another amazing video! Keep it up!
James Olson thanks!
Chapmans arrival on the scene was awesome!
him and jordan hick on the same team would be crazy
Dude sounds exactly like Tony Hinchcliffe. Also this is a great video, very well done
Wow great break down you earned my sub great content
Love your vids
Seamus Mcgarvey thank you!
12:15 I was @ this game.
I went to SD that weekend to check My REDS & Young Chapman.
The fucking dab joke got me
Verlander threw 100 after seven innings of work. Kerry Wood, Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan and Bob Gibson all threw smoke for nine innings.
Much more impressive.
When I was little my dad said that I saw him throw in Rotterdam (Netherlands)
Yes I live there
Damnit Rizzo stop crowding the plate!!!!
Chapman is the beast 💪
Dude great video! Couldn’t imagine taking 100+ off the elbow!
Chapman vs Altuve...
*trash can noises*
*bonk* *bonk*
@@Buzzehxcx no, this time it was the buzzer he was wearing. It was more of a bzzz bzzzz bzzz
@@barbaroacosta5335 he wasnt even wearing one, his pitches are so predictable he got walked off again today on the same pitch 😂😂😂 Chapman is garbage
Didnt Jordan Hicks throw a 106 MPH pitch?
Yeah, he also had Tommy John.
No it wasnt 106 officially
He hit 105.9 or something like that but it didnt hit 106.0
4:09 does that say Big Sexy threw 100 in a game AND that Mike Sweeney crushed it? Where's THAT video? And why is it the 6th OR 8th inning? Do they not know?
@@willryan1583 I'm talking mister home run king himself, the one and only immortal Bartolo
Loved Chapman on the cubs and was sad to see him go back to the yankees. Anyway great video and keep it up!!
Goro Shigeno also a southpaw throws 104 mph (168 kmph) and hes just 19yo
10:33 it would have been amazing if from this point on the entire video switched to the history of the dab.
I’m a 6’7 freshman in high school who can throw a 108 mph slider with a 115 mph fastball with sink. I also routinely hit home runs 470 feet but my mom says I should pursue being a cook. What should I do
The dab comment had me 😂
He’s without a doubt a hall of famer
Random good recommendation of the day/ night. Glad I clicked on it. How about one on the Bone 😁
I saw him throw 106 while in Cincinnati
That SportsScience is the stuff of the Gods.
Mans blew the save toniggt
Just had to say I was here before 9k subs 😂
Right now if Chapman has 2 more great to amazing years he will get in the hall of fame
I took an 80 mph to the wang area. I cant imagine 100 mph.
Chapman to the Hall - mos def
hopefully when its all said and done he will be on the same level as walter johnson and nolan ryan , still a long way to go be in that league ,
The thing about Feller v. Motorcycle is that he threw on flat ground in dress shoes and a tie
Rajai Davis still looms in his Nightmares!
I used to throw 130mph at 16. I now play call of duty
You can make the argument that Chapman is one of the most influential pitchers in the modern era.
My baseball coach coached Craig counsell when he was in college
Or no my bad I’m forgetting relationship he might have played with him around same age so probably played with
Idk I just know he knows him somehow due to baseball
Why are you guessing an average of how many of the hit by pitches were fast balls when you can just check and see exactly how many were....
Chapman is no doubt an amazing pitcher and therefore a Great Closer but Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer of all time.
Change the playback speed to 1.5x and it sounds more normal!
I took a 85 mph fast ball to the femur. It wasn't 99 mph but it gave me osteochondroma ten years later. Getting hit in the femur is the second worst hit you can take.
Quote “please get me tickets for 2020”
Sportstorm
"since then chapman has established himself as one of the best closers in the league, possibly of all time" lol
How is that funny? It’s the truth
Mase, unfortunately the yard you'd take Chapman to, is the barnyard right beside your trough
"in the late 2000's " I guess we are now in the 3000's lol
By god don’t we normalise ‘the naughties’
Holy shit, Kyle Farnsworth was topping 100!? I was pretty young when he was around and I don't remember that at all
I threw 115 mph slider
The 25 hit batters doesn’t count all the people who have almost been hit
I believe it the whitesox currently have 3 guys just in there bullpen that can throw 100 mph or very close to it (Zach burdi, Codi heuer, and Aaron bummer)
Doesn't Cordero touch 100 as well?
_ NINJASTRIKE99 he did last year but this year the fastest pitch I have seen him throw was 96
U should do a Hall of Fame case video for Mark Teixera
Weird seeing Chapman throwing from the wind up
cant imagine getting hit by chapman that must suck
and now we have an 18 year old throwing 102...
Why wasn't he drafted in the mlb draft I dont by get it?? Not really fair for everyone else
International pool. He already had 5 years of professional experience.
The draft and mlb players unions does not have rookies best interest at heart and it's a shame. Don't get paid till many many years after they made it to the league.
I'd take chapman fastballs off the cheat like happy gilmore toughening up for hockey tryouts in 364 more days
We all know who the greatest closer of all time goes to
I live in Cincy so I'm a bit partial to him. To me he is fastly becoming the best closer of all time. Only reason I say he's not already considered the goat is he needs to be there a couple more years. 100% HOFer tho even he stops right now
There is no way he will ever be considered above Rivera, he is yet to even get to half the number of saves of the Sandman, he might be considered the best of a generation, and a couple more decent years & he will be a HOF player, but nowhere near the the greatest
@@mclew1234 perhaps that's a better way to put it he's the best closer I've had the pleasure watch. Rivera is a good point too.
@@MyBallsUrJaws With the way pitchers arms are monitored now, nobody will get close to Rivera. If you have a 15 year major league career you would need to average 44 saves a year to beat his record. Since the 2016 season in which 5 guys made that mark only 7 guys have gone above 40 saves, and only 2 of those above 44 saves.
Chapmans main problem to getting in the HOF is he needs to get back to the WS else his WS defining moment will be the game 7 blown save. Even though he was key to us even getting through that WS run, if he doesn't get back to the WS when it comes to HOF discussions it will always be did he choke in the big game and the ALCS in '17 & '19 where he got smacked around by Houston (probably something to do with a bin)
He did not DAB!!! he was wiping his face from his sweat!!!
I thought it said 120 at 12 years old I was like wtf... uh.
He still holds the fastest pitch at 108 mph
When he was playing at the Cuban WBC he throws 157kmh lol
Imagine big sexy bartolo colon throwing 100mph
How about jordan hicks
Hicks never had the amount of hype that Chapman had
Small UA-camr making baseball videos? SUBSCRIBED!
You sound like Tony Hinchcliffe
I dont care how much he denied and complained about winning in 16' for the Cubs. He was a value and if he stayed with the Cubs he would've had another ringer then or in the near future
Brusdar graterol
Dude was essentially eric gagne without roids
Great vid, I’d maybe be a tad bit more concise, or make the title like, the history of the 100mph pitch and Aroldis Chapman’s entrance to MLB
Astros about to learn what a 103 fastball tastes like when they play the yankees
Mlb gives out million $ contracts to any that can throw in the mid high 90s . Many do not make it to the show
You don't need fancy graphs .....
Since you can't teach speed , your immediately gifted to the front of the line .
If you want to get fancy , Chapman wasn't close to Nolan Ryan who metrics considered hit 108 mph not to mention Ryan was a far better pitcher in every aspect .
What a hater , I bet you cannot make a more interesting video loser.
