  • Multiple Goodman Package Units today with problems. First time in a while my boss drove me around, but it's always good to see the more experienced technicians diagnose Units and see how they think. Definitely tired of Goodman Package Units though.

Love watching these kinds of videos. Love seeing all the ins and outs and technical aspects of HVAC. I know it's everyday stuff for you guys but it's very informative.

Every one loves to jump on Good . I was carrier commercial dealer, until I sold the business in 2009. My son in law wanted to start something when he left the service so I helped him get his feet wet, Goodman was available from our local supply house. If installed correctly I will put them up against any of them . The problem is less experienced individuals including diy are attempting to put them in. We have gone behind a few Diy installs and quickie firms and had to flush systems, pull new copper, replace trxv and basically reinstall it because they had no clue. And yes we have replaced compressors after less than year due to leaks, air and dirt left in the lines

I don't doubt that. They're one of my favorite units to work on, only gripe I have is replacing the evap coils on their package units. Every unit I feel if installed correctly, holds up really well.

DIY should stick to mini split in my opinion. Too much that can be messed up in central and will cost the money you saved to fix. Mini splits are at least priced to be disposable nowadays.

Minisplits aren't practical for every application. Especially since the houses I work on can't keep up in cold climates. We consistently get called out to the rentals that are using JUST heat pump minisplits to heat/cool the home during the winter time

Your boss is wise beyond his age. I’m an Engineer for the County who’s been there for many years. People need to be fair and understand time = knowledge. The last job you were on could def be a dirty blower wheel , dirty evap , or even wrong motor speed / duct size. When in heat mode ( if it overheats ) static pressure and gas valve pressure would have been a good confirmation. Great Job!!

Appreciate the compliment for him. I eliminated those as problems because the first time we were there was as a PM to try and see if the investor could keep it running. It was running a 0.3-0.4 static. That Goodman model has a range (first time I ever seen it) and it said from 0.2-0.5. We still cleaned the evap coil and the condenser coil. The duct is all hard piped underneath the home.

On top of that, when I looked in the house before they did the flooring, they had a old return for a whole house in floor heater that was like 25x30, but whenever the home got central heating and air in they decided to not use that space anymore and use the return in the wall. My boss stressed to the investor the unit needed the return back there because like I stated, it's got like a "somethin by"x20 return grille on the wall but then reduces down to like a 9x24 which definitely is too small for a 2.5 ton system.

Those units have problems with the circuit boards cracking on the saftey switch plug. Same with the rheem, armana, and carrier.

@@AB_HVAC im ok I don’t need to see anymore videos. I saw enough guessing and part’s changing in this video. A service tech doesn’t just change parts or fuck up a part that was just replaced 😂 there’s a reason we trouble shoot to determine the issue and find why it happened, not everything is a bad motor or bad part. Fucking bum

What's important is you're actually learning instead of thinking you already know everything. A lot of guys would just say, my stupid boss just got lucky this time.

🤣 nah I pick my battles with him. My mentor always told me, when you're the least experienced tech on site, give suggestions but pay attention. Makes me feel better when I'm by myself or with Jacob and I didn't need to call him for any advice.

I am a field tech not HVAC but I could often show up on site on a motorcycle and a leatherman and get things running. I use the proper equipment if it is necessary but seat of pants engineering is often a quicker way to get where you need to be especially if there will be a return trip to fix it right.

Whatever works, my boss used to not have a legit tool bag before I got with him. Introduced him to Veto bags and he don't leave the house without it now
