I've never seen seen any other two people perform on one violin; as an (amateur) musician it comes across as almost overwhelmingly intense in its intimacy. The closest I can think of is four hands on one piano (not the normal piano duet of four hands / two pianos), for which Schubert, who was known to have loved both men and women, wrote the great Fantasie in F minor, also believed to be an expression of forbidden love.
As a pianist, yeah, playing 4 hands on one piano feels like having some kind of bond. Me and my sister did that and it's by far a whole different experience. Violin might be even more intimate too, since it really says "fuck it" to personal space
