We need to start a WRITE IN campaign to car manufacturers to wire a USB connector into the back of their rear view mirrors so the cameras can be powered with a short power cord from there instead of the messy cigarette lighter solution!
+Peter Rafeiner That there is a decent bit of suggestion. Depending on the car, it might also be possible to put a linear or switchmode regulator tucked up in the interior (aka 'dome') light if it's near enough to the rearview mirror. That's a bit hands on for some people but it's another idea :)
This is the very first Techmoan video I ever saw long ago, after watching I bought a few of these very YI cameras & am enjoying them to this day.I HAD NO IDEA how much cool content you had produced over the years. Wow!
Hi Tehmoan, Just wanted to thank you for such a comprehensive video. I have bought one and it arrived yesterday. The firmware was actually behind yours but once you download the app, which is now as you prophesied in English, it can be easily updated. I'm looking forward to testing it tomorrow. Keep up the great work.

Nice review! This dashcam got Impressive video quality, really nice. And just translate what it says in setting menu if anyone curious in 13:28: 录音-Sound recording, 碰撞检测-Crash detection, 时间戳-timestamp
I recently bought this camera and found it to be excellent for the price £30 shipped from China. There is a mod out there to turn this into the international version (US) which is pretty straight forward to do. As for the silver colour which you could see from my car. A large black sharpie done the trick and now my dash cam is black.
Your reviews are superb, but there's something lacking. We need some action mate, put some dents in your car by smashing into someone's car. That'd make for a thorough review.

I'm impressed by the quality of this camera.. :o I've got one dash cam that I tried out in the past, and it was pretty okay, but, this is surprisingly good, considering~ As usual, very enjoyable review~ :) Keep it up~! ...and dat ending~ :)
Been watching techmoan for quite some time, and being from the USA the driving sequences always throw me at first. I almost every time gasp a little and think, "this crazy fools pulling out in front of someone ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD AND JUST DRIVING!" Just me? Probably. Love the videos friend.
Nice review, as always. Could you start including information on Wifi transfer speeds on future cameras that support Wifi? You did this with the transcend but not with this one. Been a subscriber for a long time. Keep up the excellent work.
Good review, nice and quick. I think Xiaomi is doing a great job with both the Yi and this dashcam. Good price with a simple and elegant function. Indeed, getting the basics right.

Thank you so much for this review, I preordered it some time ago and finally I know what I'm gonna receive :)
THANK YOU ! There is the new dash cam review as promised... and we get some entertainment at the end as well :-) I still think we need a public vote as to the names of your puppets so they can get proper IMDB profiles :-)! As for the camera; love the quality of the footage. Just wish there was a GPS option. BTW, you showed the little 'jump' where segments are divided. It may be a good idea to point out that in editing that can be easily removed and made seamless. I bet that quite a few viewers do not realize that.
Hey 13:16 the count down isnt a count down for recording. The count down is the emergency recording. So when you press the button, it records for 10 seconds
Thanks for the review, really informative, clear and interesting too. I've had to get a dashcam for a girl at work and I didn't have a clue about them at all but this video has answered all my questions. This cam is available on Amazon for £41 at the moment, a bargain methinks
excellent+informative review as always... the bit after the credits was worth the wait... ;) /subd/patreon'd etc... good stuff Mat... long may it continue! :)
The menu is nice and simple and the camera is cheap for the image quality. Another superb review. Your review of the Yi action camera made me a Yi camera user (owned few GoPro's 3) and the Yi is a camera I dont care if I brake it :-)
love the dash cam review vids. i was wondering if you'd do a review of some phone app dash cam recorders. i know you're an apple guy, but could you do some for both apple and android? not to ask to much from you, but not just apps designed for phones with top specs, but also for older phones that are more likely to be able to be dedicated for use as a dash cam. that's it for the moment, and thanks for recording.
Xiaomi is actually one of the best electronics brands from China. I own two of their Android phones, and they're great! The put a lot of effort into product/software design and testing, which shows in the final product. I'm usually very picky, but I would buy anything with their name on without hesitation!
+hannes something It's easier to use a car camera in the car, an action camera for action and a traditional digital camera for anything else. Many people prefer to use their phone for the latter though. I'm all for using the right tool for the job.
Techmoan i just find the quality soamazing, my phone costs 300 euros and that little camera captures better video than my phone. i do agree with you but what if someone wants very good quality video and doesn't have that much money to spend? i think in that sort of situation it is acceptable to use such a ghetto solution.
+hannes something I think if you want an all-round camera that can be a dash-cam and a waterproof action cam, do slo-mo, timelapse and has stabilisation, you'll be better off with a Gitup Git2 rather than this camera with a USB battery attached.
Techmoan i just searched that camera and it's not that much more than the dashcam and battery pack indeed, i didn't know there were good cameras that are that cheap.
Hi, if you have a moment I have a basic question which doesn't appear to be covered in your videos/blog. I have ordered my first dashcam. it's basic, cheap and without GPS and am wondering what software you suggest for stitching loops together and viewing. I use a Mac, and really want the simplest, given that mine will not do GPS. Thanks in advance. I've posted here as this video seems to be your most recent dashcam review, apologies if I should have asked elsewhere. And as always, thanks for all your excellent (and increasing amusing) videos.
Very nice review again. Earlier on I bought the Transcend Drivepro 220 after you reviewed that one, but soon after that I already pre-ordered this Xiaomi because of the we wider lens and it did not disappoint me! Compared to the Transcend much brighter night recordings, the promised wider angle and almost twice the Wi-Fi transfer speed! (on Android) Only minus is the missing gps capability, but what to expect for this price! Now I'm curious how long it will live. (not melt in the sun for example; Had that in the past with the 'dashcam one's :))
That was FAR better quality than I was expecting for the price, completely sold on it so thankyou for the review. Sorry if you mentioned it, but what were the 3min file sizes at 1080@60p ?
I'm a driver for a living. I recognise area's of Wigan you drive around in some of your videos. I am also a fellow biker, I live in the Cheshire area. I only passed my bike test a year ago and am looking for some fun roads to ride, is there any good ones around your neck of the woods?
As always a great review and £70! not a lot of money for what you are getting. I notice you taking Edge Lane to the M62, If you had gone through the pipe you would have been able to join me for a cup of tea on The Wirral Hundred.
+Techmoan I recently purchased the Transcend DP220. My only gripes with it are; the square form factor makes hard to hide, it's limited to a 130 degree angle at only 1080 30fps, and it's not cheap. I do think it has excellent night quality, and that's very important as 80% of my driving is in the dark (no street lights) and the GPS. Do you think this new Xiaoyi Car Camera would tick those boxes (minus the GPS) for the lower price?
I feel like I may be one of the few actually using this video to see if it's the right dashcam for me. Already have one on the way after looking through :)
Great video as usual. Based on your previous video i have bought mobius about 3 years ago and now im thinking about upgrade. Is this something worth to consider?
Excellent review as always! @12:30 If I read the Chinese text correctly, that button actually shots a 10 seconds emergency video and saves it into the emergency folder. If you press it again, it would just shot another one. Could you please check the folder to see if this is true? I don't have such a cam so I could be wrong though.
+Zhang Luke The file is 20 seconds. The time show here is only 10 seconds after the press, but 10 seconds before the press also included in the emergent file... but if in a not recording mode and u press the button.. then u only got 10 seconds from the time you press
hi excellent review. looking at this for my first dash cam but i have one question, does the dash cam switch automatical to night mode or does it need manualy activating.
love the ending. You've got silencing the youtube idiots to a T, leaving mostly sensible comments. The dash cam looks really good. I like that simple menu system, even in chinese it's easy to use.
it's nice to see that companies are starting to understand that wide aperture lenses are the way forward for dashcams, obviously, the wider the aperture, the more low light performance you get, f1.8 is the best you can get for such a small sensor though, but as you can see, it performs really well in all conditions.
+Mr Needs Problem with F1.8 is that the depth of field is very shallow, since you want things far away to be sharp, things close to the camera can't be. It's always a trade-off.
it's not really a problem with wide angle lenses though, the focal length is much narrower than a 50mm for example, my guess is that they are using a 10mm lens for this cam.
What's the editing program you use to edit your UA-cam videos? I have an action cam and want to join my clips together. The quality on that Dash Cam is really good in all lights, impressed.
+Raven34gtr No as its a freebie for anyone with an idevices. Rocky mentioned Microsofts own software, search Microsoft Movie Maker and you should find a link to Windows Essentials 2012, make sure you read the installer as it will likely have applications you don't want. I would recommend when exporting any videos to use H264.
+Raven34gtr I use LightWorks for editing on windows. It gets the job done well for a free to use program. There is a premium version that you can buy but I have not used it.
This dude should have been a news anchor. He's good in talking, sounds clear and amazing presentation. I subscribed.
Wow. The Chinese completely cleared the motorway for you to test this camera!
+drie wiel If I was the betting type, I'd put money on it being the M58.
***** Or make dash cams that can run on 12V, seeing that there are quite a few cars out there that seem to be using that kind of on board power :-)
+Peter Rafeiner You will be interested in this new product then: www.amazon.com/dp/B01AYS4JZ4
+Peter Rafeiner WHy not have a dashcam option when you buy the car?
Icel4nd3r Sure nice too for new cars; also you know that it is going to be far more expensive then just adding your own little $99 (or less) cam.
This is the very first Techmoan video I ever saw long ago, after watching I bought a few of these very YI cameras & am enjoying them to this day.I HAD NO IDEA how much cool content you had produced over the years. Wow!
Probably the best dashcam I've seen you review this far.
One thing I like about this channel is that you allow to download original clips.
Hi Tehmoan, Just wanted to thank you for such a comprehensive video. I have bought one and it arrived yesterday.

I just got mine today here in the USA from Amazon. Easy set up. Works wonderfully. and it was at a great price.
Thanks for the review.
Wow, what a coincidence. I just got my Yi yesterday and plan on using it as a dashcam, and then you upload this video...
The shot at 08:33, I was watching BBC One and there was this bloke looking at his great grandfather's history, and I suddenly recognized the buildings from your review.
That has to be the best quality video of an indoor car park I've ever seen! :-)

Thanks 'TechM', another great well balanced review and I liked the end clip - keep 'em coming.
One day the review will be all puppets with mat appearing at the end. I can't wait.
Wow the picture quality is really good. Especially low light.
Great review as always. Thanks for your time.

awesome stuff Techmoan! keep the reviews coming. really love your informative reviews! :D
sound is not great but the video is gorgeous for a dashcam. and that dynamic range, really great!
I don't have much interest in dash cams, but I watch your videos for entertainment anyway.
Your reviews are superb, but there's something lacking.

Very in depth informative video, thanks!
Was that the car park at 5:10 that burnt down? The only thing that puts me off is the lack of seamless videos. It seems to tick all the other boxes.
Hi Mate, I am getting anxious watching you drive on the 'wrong side' of the streets!
Great video and very helpful. Thanks, kindly!

Great video! Thank you for sharing ;-)
a really good review! Thank you!
Great job putting this very informative video! 2 thumbs up!
Another excellent review!
Was that the song from the Tefifon at the end?
Thanks for the really comprehensive review. Bought one on the strength of it.
+Dominic Winsor you'll no doubt know it has English language menus now, updatable with a firmware update through the app.
Techmoan I only just updated to it, haven't found the option yet. ;)
+Techmoan Hints on how to get to English would be appreciated!
+Techmoan Which version of firmware gives you english menus?
seems like a very good camera for 70 pounds, you could use this as a camera to record short clips with if you just connect a powerbank to it

Dope content, keep it up and stay blessed!!!
Loved the ending. I think you may have another business to fall back. :)
Seems very competent and as has a great price
Very informative. Thank you very much.
Is there a way I can get in touch with you? I found an old amplifier on a shop here in Brazil, I think it would be a nice addition to your collection.
+Techmoan I recently purchased the Transcend DP220. My only gripes with it are; the square form factor makes hard to hide, it's limited to a 130 degree angle at only 1080 30fps, and it's not cheap. Great detailed review
I feel like I may be one of the few actually using this video to see if it's the right dashcam for me. Already have one on the way after looking through :)
If you haven't yet (I looked and couldn't find one) you should do a video about the sony minidisc players. I loved those!
Brilliant, Those puppets deserve there own channel.
Thanks for the info. According to your experience do you consider this better than the previous version of Xiaomi yi?
Great video as usual. Based on your previous video i have bought mobius about 3 years ago and now im thinking about upgrade. Is this something worth to consider?
What setting/resolution did you use on the yi cam when you are on the roads in this video?
Cool video! With this, might as well set up a GoPro and just do a tour of Liverpool. That'd be pretty cool.
Sami Luo Ah I was wondering why they want to shot for 10 seconds with one press. Thanks for the insights.
hi excellent review. looking at this for my first dash cam but i have one question, does the dash cam switch automatical to night mode or does it need manualy activating.
You didn't show the ADAS-feature. Or did I miss that?
Brilliant........................Love the ending :)
Any chance of a picture of it in situ in the car? It looks to be quite prominent based on the mounting system it uses.
+kedaha yes it is not a discrete camera that you can hide away...see 15:05
