For me a plain old number to pencil and for quilting lines I use my painters tape or hero marker or occasionally I use the little attachment to my sewing machine that gives me a guide to the previous line that I quilted so I keep them equal distance
I love my disappearing ink/water soluble one. The purple fully goes away and I don’t have to fuss with it. Only issue I have is with dark fabric. Currently waiting on a pen set that includes the white, red, black, & blue.
@@ArtistTaraReed Yes, for the purple I just wait. Usually I move on with the next step and then I forget about it. Next I remember, it’s gone. If I need something that lasts awhile longer, I use the blue end. If I remember correctly, though, I think the blue tip will be more like what you were expecting. I usually do wash anything I put that on, but I think I’ve had it go away with my iron and spritzing.
I heard that the ink could return when cold as well, so I tested it. I wrote my name on a scrap piece of fabric. I "removed" it with my iron and then placed the fabric in the freezer. I checked it at 1 hour, 12 hours, 24 and 48. My name or outline of my name never reappeared, so I have continued using the Frixion pens.
@@ArtistTaraReed Type of fabric crossed my mind as well. Also wondered if using starch made a difference? The scrap I used had been starched. I don't know either. I appreciate the suggestion for the new fabric pens. Something to consider as I am on my last Frixion pen. Have a great weekend!
@suzannejambon4736 I haven't tested starched vs. not starched but saw a blog som _ewher_ e that did - I THINK starched fabric wasn't as affected but don't remember. I'm now officially freaked out so I'm going to go with the fabric specific pens. Have a great weekend as well!
I've been sewing and quilting for quite a while now I'm not sure what other marking you would do on the front of fabric? The only marking I do is on the back for half Square triangles Etc
I’m not a fan of chalk unless it’s a dark fabric - I have the clover Chaco pen with the wheel thing, is that what you use or is there something better/finer/less dusty?
🤔 What is your favorite tool to mark fabric for projects and quilting?

@@deborahmeares1048 I LOVE painters tape! And my guide... all great options!

Are you patient and wait for the purple to go away? I was having a hard time trying to get it off with a damp cloth in the video...

@@Goldie1201 great to know - thanks!
I purchased heat erasable pens and refills similar to the Madam Sew that seems to work just fine from Temu.
Thanks for the comparison. I use the heat erasable pens or chalk.
You’re very welcome!

interesting... I wonder if it also depends on the fabric. I do remember it looking a little white after ironing on red fabric... 🤷🏻♀

I sometimes draw designs for machine quilting on the front of my fabric
I just use painters tape, chalk or hera marker.
