That's not Kevin doing bass, it's Matt and, during Matt's solo, Scott. It's easy to focus on Scott's high falsetto in the wall of sound, because he's making darn sure everybody notices it. But I heard something much more subtle from Scott during Matt's solo. Now that we've all heard Matt going into the stratosphere, listen again, and this time concentrate on what Scott is doing in his bass range while Matt is soloing. I didn't know Scott could sing that low; he's really been increasing his range, at both ends. He's getting darn close to having as big a range as Matt, and Matt's range is utterly incredible. In this one performance from #PTX we have Butter Scott starting out, followed by a simultaneous Matt Attack and Great Scott, the obligatory Mitch Slap, and yet another Matt Attack and Great Scott in the wall of sound. 😍 They were always wonderful, but now they've exceeded that; words fail.
Glad to hear you reacting to this! This is mature Pentatonix! Their voices are all improving with age. This is essentially the arrangement that they sing in their current concerts, it works well on stage! If you compare it to the original, the other difference that reactors don't often comment on is that Kevin is doing purely beat boxing in this one. In the original, it's a lot more body percussion (stamps, chest claps, etc). In this one, it's also more clearly Scott doing the bass line while Matt is singing. That was sometimes hard to pick up on in the original studio/music video version. If you're looking for other new things to react to from them, Scott has put out several solo projects in the past 6 months. I say "projects" because he seems to be having fun with releasing multiple versions of the same original song. There are 5 or 6 versions of "Mad About You", 3 of which have videos, and just recently 2 versions of "Rose without the Thorns". In the version that doesn't have a video (just visualizer), you can hear clearly his influence from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, as well as Scott's insane range--he goes up into whistle range on that one. He also had 3 versions of his 1st solo, "Mars" from 2 years ago. Mitch hasn't released any solo work for almost a year (I think he's working on more), but I don't think you've reacted to any of his earlier work yet, under the name "Messer". And I'm assuming there will be more new things from the whole group as the holidays approach. They've been singing a new 7-8 minute long "Evolution of Taylor Swift" at their summer tour concerts. I think we're all hoping they will release an official video of that sometime soon!
So glad you reacted to this one. It HAS been a long time since they released a new video. Over the next month they will be starting to talk "Christmas" and I look forward to seeing your reactions to those videos. I will get to see them in concert in late November. CAN'T WAIT!
Thanks, guys!! I've missed you doing reactions to one of my fave groups. Scott seems to have had extra Wheaties the morning they recorded this!! Hopefully now that winter is approaching you can dig into some Halloween stuff and then Christmas with PTX. Have you checked out Making Christmas or My Favourite Things by them? Both are great for the spooky season.
Love, love ,love PTX. Really enjoyed this live ,updated version ….. but to be honest I find the ending to be a little chaotic! Thanks as always for your reactions.
@@jeancartwright301 I believe that is the intention: to get away from that original rendition. There is no question about its beauty. This is PTX2.0, though. Something has to hit differently and not just a duplicate of the other one.
Yes Beth, I believe you are correct. The tension and chaos is intentional and very dramatic PTX as a nod to Cohen's story line here. Having an orchestral background, it reminds me of some of the pieces where the instruments were intentionally all over the place, then settled into a nice soothing familiar, harmonic ending. Best I can explain it. After several listens, I now like the ending and understand it.
I'm a little disappointed that the video director/editor didn't match a shot from the original video. In the original, when Avi sang the line "her beauty in the moonlight", the video editor cut to a closeup of Kirstie's face. In this video, there were several shots taken from an angle with just Matt and Kirstie in the shot, so the shot was available, and they missed the chance to duplicate that phrasing and shot - they used a shot of the whole group instead when Matt sang the line! 😥
I love the addition of the Matt slap and Scott slap! It’s so fun to watch reactors who know them and yet still this shocks them!!!
Live....omg....that was awesome!!! Out of this world voices,,,👽👽👽👽👽's,

There are quite a few live concert videos of good quality where you can see them on stage and it's a delight. Have missed your reactions to PTX!
Recommend their cover of Mad World.

TX so much for reacting to this. O aren't they something? Only PTX can outdo PTX. You are so appreciated. Greetings from South Africa

Plus the official video of Aha.
Beautiful as always ❤

Yes I agree, I much prefer the version on the music video - desert version. They were not singing in harmony.

Probably why they did it this way is to differentiate it from the Avi era one. Avi’s gone. It’s Matt’s turn to shine now.
