Do you love snacks as much as teachers do? Tune into this deliciously entertaining episode of Teachers Off Duty where Lauran, Tell, Bri, and Gabe delve into the delectable world of "teacher snacks".
Ever wondered what your teachers stash in their desks? Tell starts off the snack fest confessing his love for candy, while Gabe, mid-conversation with Lauran, reaches over to snag some Cheetos. No one said teachers can't have fun, right?
Gabe shares a relatable moment, guiltily munching on Oreos during his students' test. He also reveals his odd fondness for 'grandpa candy', sparking off a trip down memory lane about Lauran's grandma at church.
Is project-based learning a ploy to feast on preferred snacks? Hear what Tell has to say on that. But it's not all fun and games - apparently, teachers at Tell's school can only have clear liquids. Discover the hilarious tale of forgotten hidden coffee that followed this rule.
In a twist of irony, while Gabe can gulp down coffee, Tell reveals why he avoids it. Hint: It involves an awkward conversation with the principal.
The conversation turns serious when Gabe emphasizes the importance of letting kids eat breakfast and ensuring they're well-nourished. But it's soon back to laughs with Tell's amusing story about "Pirate's Booty" snacks and an intriguing discussion on developing allergies later in life.
Enjoy a delicious round of 'Good or Garbage with Gabe' that focuses on Chocolate Milk Fridays. Here's the kicker: Apparently, the FDA is considering a chocolate milk ban. Can school life survive this?
Bri shares her strict 'no school lunch' policy, while Lauran has a surprising take. This leads to a fiery debate about the quality of school lunches and a nostalgic trip down memory lane involving plate-sized chocolate chip cookies and Otis Spunkmeyer treats.
From Gabe's food shoutouts to Lauran's innovative dinner dice for decision-making, there's a feast of food fun. The episode wraps up with Bri's funny tale about a student-run Instagram account that crowned her the 'eating champ'.
Join us on Teachers Off Duty for a smorgasbord of snack stories and discover the lighter side of the teaching profession. Bon appétit!

Michigan passed a bill this year that all kids at public schools get free food for the whole school year! I don't have kids but I think this should be the standard across all public schools. No kid should feel bad about lunch

TAKIS!! 🤣 the kids at my school drive me NUTS with takis. Always sharing with their friends, bringing the biggest bag they can, their taki fingers everywhere. Haha. They tried to get me to bring takis for the whole school for the last day of school! Told them there was no way I was buying takis for 500+ students 😂

Me and my science teacher don't trust the blue Takis! We're both like "Why the heck are these things blue?" Also, teenagers are stupid sometimes lol. They don't understand that a fellow teenager does not have the funds to buy over 500 bags of Takis 🤣🙄like, we do not have 1,500 dollars! Where do you think we are getting this money!? You'd have to babysit a LOT of children for that 🤣 also, I am not purchasing snacks for over 400 people I do not know!

the district i teach in has free breakfast and lunch. the food is really good too. the district my kids go to does not participate in any school food funding and my senior spends about $10 a day. he goes for double bacon cheeseburgers and french fries most days. they have sushi day, taco day with real tacos, and wing day as specials. they also have a full on coffee shop that’s basically a starbucks.

I’m a high school sophomore, and I have a teacher who keeps a giant roll of toilet paper in his room because like he just gets them for free at the school. He has it in place of Kleenexes and paper towels. If students (or himself even) want food, we have to rip off toilet paper from the roll, and quickly open our snack and take it out and put it on the toilet paper. Even if we have a granola bar or something, we have to take it out the wrapper. He hates the constant sound of the chip bags and stuff all the time.
Another thing - my 6th sense isn’t like candy or chips or anything… my 6th sense is donuts. I know when there are donuts around because I can smell them. I work at dunkin so I’m used to donuts and coffee 😂😂.

The thing about carrying school lunch back to your classroom and feeling embarrassed--for me, it's a reminder of the few times I had to stay in the classroom at lunch because I didn't finish work or my teacher wanted to talk to me. It's the anxiety about being in trouble plus the pain/fomo of being separated from friends.

Coffee is actually both a stimulant and a depressant. The initial metabolic response is as a stimulant, then it has a delayed, countering depression in your brain as it compensates from the preceeding up. Was a cool contradiction I learned about in my psych graduate work, learning how immune system and brain chem changes affect behaviour.
It why chronic or excessive coffee makes people feel dragged out a lot.

During the pandemic the school district I was in also delivered breakfast and lunch to everyone that wanted it - teachers/ staff rode the school bus and went on the normal routes to deliver the food. I’m still in school currently, but I thought I’d share what we have for lunch at my school. I don’t go to any sort of prestigious private school or anything. I go to public school, where one of the building’s was my mom’s high school building. I’m in ninth grade and we have like 550-650 kids in my grade alone. We have our own school just for our grade. Everyday for lunch we have pre-made salad, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, 2 types of pizza, chicken sandwiches (normal and spicy) and something that changes daily. But at the high school, they have all of that, plus they have coffee ( for breakfast and lunch) soda, build your own salad bar, build your own nacho bar, They have cooks that literally make them a sub if they want it (like subway) and a lot more. And the school wonders why they don’t have the money to buy the students new MacBooks and IPads (MacBook Airs for 10-12 grade and iPads for 8-9 grade.) They spent all of the money on the food and the new ninth grade building they just finished this summer. They also just built a new elementary school, and plan to start and finish a new middle school by 2025. I have no clue where the school gets the money from tbh. But we have the best school, and best standardized test scores in the entire state. So there’s that. But we have at least 3 fights a week. We had over 118 fights by the end of the first semester last year, and even more in the second semester. Today was the first day of school for me and we’ve already had one fight. Not to mention most kids schedules were messed up. The system went down while sorting everything and it messed everything up. I wasn’t even enrolled in a science class at all for this year. It was on my printed schedule, but I wasn’t on any of the teachers rosters for any class. This has never happened before, and the school district ant figure out why it happened. But yeah, that’s what you get when you have technology do your work for you I guess.

I eat the salads our cafeteria workers will make for teachers. I don’t eat the other food.

All the title 1 schools in my district have free lunch for all students. And they are super strict about how it’s distributed. And the food is terrible and the portions are not enough for middle school students. But the school in flagstaff I worked at had the best food. Homemade style tamales, homemade style pizza, chili cheese baked potatoes. And it was a title 1 school.

They gave us some rotten peaches, rotten strawberries, moldy blueberries, milk expired, stale bread and so much more disgusting food! School lunch in Georgia is a literal torture to live in!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Otis Spunkmeyer cookies are amazing. We would lick the melted chocolate off the wax paper that the cookie came on.

Crispitos..... It looks like ground beef, but that's actually chicken. 😬
We could only get chocolate milk on Fridays when I was a kid. If you were lucky, you could get to the milk line early enough on Monday to get one of the few leftovers. My son says he can get it every day.
