Cant beat yamaha, i had my 09 fxho cruiser set up for fishing for 9 years, never missed a beat, a great allround ski , sold now looking at another fxho...
That is the thing about Yamaha that people will always tell you and the resale prices of these compared to other brands highlights that fact. They are great skis
@@GCJetskiFishing In my area by the Great Lakes its not very popular. It seems more popular in the ocean states such as Florida, Texas, California, Oregon.
I’m in the process now of setting up my Yamaha FX Ski , I have the rack in the back already and the cooler just need to add a few additions like the dual batteries everything else I already have, probably will set up a series of lights, thank you for the video it gave me some nice ideas about things! PS. Greetings from Florida ! you have a new subscriber 😊
Thanks for the comment! I have thought about tubbys but I really don't think I need them... sure they have some good points about them like extra stability but they are a large cost, are not quickly removable like a chilli bin is, they stop you from sitting sideways and using the gunnel as a foot rest and generally just block the side of the ski
@@GCJetskiFishing You make some valid points and I definitely see why you don’t use them. However, for me, I like I idea of being about to use the boarding ladder and deck for ingress as climbing over the gunnel can be challenging at times. Of course the cost is the biggest issue and will probably deter me from purchasing them. What about your dual battery setup, do you use a switch with an acr to keep the house battery and starter battery separate or are they just wired together?
The batteries are wired together in paralell so they are both being used at the same time and both charge at the same time, a switch introduces a point of failure. The key is to just have plenty of battery capacity for what you need and always keep them topped up on a trickle charger
BTW GC. Do you need to be extra careful about water depths with the transducer on the ride plate? Or is there a case around it that keeps it fairly well protected? I want to get a solution to losing the bottom when at idle. It is driving me crazy....
Paul, I have no extra protection around the transducer, care only needs to be taken when beach launching (which 99% of the time I'm not doing) But I am often running the ski up a river where it often gets shallower than 1m of water without any problems yet. As a plus it means my ski never gets beached and the hull stays in top condition so good for resale value too
Thanks mate! the wire runs up the back of the ski then through a hole in the hull, sealed in with a cable cover plate (forget the proper name for these)
Great question. I've just brought a ski but need to do this also any chance you could email me some pics of where you have run the cable up and through the Hull. Also did you screw the transducer to the ride plate? Handle different? Thanks again. Wicked skis aye man 👍🏼👌🏼
You can keep traditional metal anchors inside the bow hatch without damage. Have been using a 6lb Danforth Anchor for years stored inside an anchor bag with 150-300ft of rope. Nice setup.
Thanks for watching Steve. Interesting how you haven't had problems with the anchor, do you secure it down while riding? On my old seadoo I smashed the bottom out of my front storage compartment because something heavy was bouncing around in there... learnt my lesson :)
Only 63hrs GC? My 2019 FXHO is about to reach 100 already! :) I really wonder how someone can only use a ski 25 hrs a year which is apparently the ski average around the globe. These are good skis. No ski is absolutely perfect for everyone, but it's pretty close, especially for fishing!
Haha yeah only 63! the first year I got a ski I did over 100 in 6 months :) I know what you mean about people only using low hours on them... I see so many for sale with less than 20 hours it's crazy! You are right about these being good skis, really happy with mine
Just wondering why didn't you get the seadoo fish pro instead of the yamaha as the fish pro is made for fishing and has better storage, accessories and deep gunnels?
I have the same rack , where did you get the bunges? Thanks for the video I'll use the pool noodles so the cooler sits high enough to open in the rack👍 my back legs are a little too short to get it level on my new ski...
Thanks mate. My rack has a tie down strap not bungees. I also prefer my cooler to be sitting as low as possible to help with balance and centre of gravity. Thanks
How are you able to attach the transducer to the bottom skip plate? That looks great compared to the mount I was going to use from Loren that mounts to the right side of the step ladder. Do you have use a transducer cover and use adhesive to attach it to the bottom plate?
It is bolted through the ride plate so very secure. It does however mean that you cannot beach your ski completely. It gives you very good sounder readings
Been loving your content, just a question from one fabrication brother to another about the mounting of the transducer. How did you mount it? Just screws or screw and glue?
Hey John, if you get the same VHF as me, the GME black box unit you can mount the unit itself literally anywhere inside the ski and the whole unit is controlled by the hand piece which you mount in the glove box. I mounted my unit behind the fairings on the front, in behind the glove box
Hello mate, love your setup! I have a 2020 FX cruiser svho. I was looking to add gunwale traction mats because I slipped off a couple of times while standing and fishing. What material do you use? I look at Hyrdo Tuff mats but they only have for the old Yamaha waverunners.
I'm not sure I would see the need for magnetic metal trays... Half the stuff that is metal would be stainless steel being in a salt water environment so wouldn't stick to it anyways. But my tools can't jump out of the chilli bin so I don't need to worry :)
I went with the Yamaha because id never tried one but I have many friends who own them and yamaha definately have a good reputation for reliability. As for stability, seadoo might be a little bit more stable because ofvthe longer rear deck but the new yamaha is also very stable and wider, I can fish 2 people and swap places very easily
