    Had some wild fennel germinate in my garden, since taken the herb indoors over the winter and it’s growing very big and producing lots of seeds, what luck lol.

    My general seeds go from yellow to gone, over night!!
    Can you use seeds that aren't fully dried for eating?

      Hello! Yes, you can eat fennel seeds that aren’t completely dry. Fresh or partially dried fennel seeds have a milder flavor and can be used in cooking or eaten directly. However, they may have a slightly different texture compared to fully dried seeds, being softer and possibly more aromatic. Fresh or semi-dried fennel seeds are often used in herbal teas, added to salads, or even chewed as a breath freshener. Just be aware that they may have a shorter shelf life and could spoil more quickly than fully dried seeds, so it's best to use them relatively soon.

    Hi...I loved my fennel plant initially and became addicted to the seeds in my salads all winter. But the last two years, it's been as if they look to mature to disintegrate.
    I didn't see bugs, but started to hit them with the hose, maybe too late. There was drought here on Vancouver Island, so I hope it wasn't overwatering. My plant is mature and huge"_
    It being fall now, I was searching to see if I could chop and drop into the bed for added nutrient to soil, but wondered if those mature hollow stalks had any nutritive value, maybe for a tea?

      Hi there :) All parts of fennel are beneficial, whether they are fresh or dry. You can use it for making tea or to put in a compost pile to enrich the soil. If you would like to use the mature plant for making tea, we would suggest that you use the top part of the stalks where they are thinner. The lower part may become too thick and woody. It's amazing that fennel can survive very low temperatures like the ones you have in Canada. It's great that you can have it!

    Plantei funcho pela primeira vez este ano mas talvez fi-lo demasiado tarde porque o bolbo não se desenvolveu como eu esperava. Alguns não desenvolveram bolbo de todo, outros desenvolveram uma espécie de espiga à qual não chamaria de "bolbo", e creio que já cresceram tudo o que tinham a crescer porque alguns já floriram. Não é o resultado que eu pretendia mas sendo assim acho que vou colher as sementes, fazer erva-doce e semear de novo para o ano que vem

      Olá :) Nem sempre é fácil ter bons resultados com o funcho. No entanto, a vantagem do funcho é que todas as partes podem ser usadas. Se não conseguir usar o bolbo, pode usar os caules e as sementes. É importante não confundir funcho com erva doce. Embora tenham semelhanças, são ervas diferentes.       @ Olá e obrigado pela sugestão! de facto a erva doce para mim era como o pimentão - não sei ao certo qual é a diferença entre pimentão, colorau e paprika, assim como não sabia dizer se erva doce era sementes de funcho ou estrela de anís moída em pó, pelos vistos não é nem uma coisa nem outra. Obrigado pelo esclarecimento
