I am 70 years old and been playing 50 years, You are teaching me some of the coolest shit I ever learned. Thanks I love your accent. You must get chicks like crazy.
Hey James, this video is quite old and I did without any expectation, but a lot of people found it useful so I keep it. I have to say that today I would do it in a different way, I would go deeper into the concepts and the thoughts behind the lines, maybe I'll do a new one but anyway if you're interested you can follow my facebook or instagram page where I upload more guitar tips. Thank you James! It's an Italian accent by the way:)
simone u or probably one of the most unselfish guitarist ive seen on youtube, most players wants to show off their skills and not share as much.you have have truly openened some of the visual and technical mastery of george benson u have an incredible and honest way of teaching and u r a maestro ive started picking up my guitar again when i looked at ure tutorial it felt like i was in the room with you.you inspire me pls dont stop putting on more tutorial of benson theres not much to go on.ill check everytime if theres more of you.thanku from the bottom of my heart im from Cape Town south africa
Simone....I have to commend you not only for your skills as a player, but as an instructor, this is one of THE BEST tutorials I've found on the internet....Period. I've been playing for years and your video has awoken my interest in playing....again. Looking forward to more.....Hoping you like and teach some Tommy Emmanuel :)
The world is learning from the greatest guitar player on earth, George Benson, I hope the United States recognizes its greatest guitar player on his land.
Always great to see a talented guitarist to share his knowledge of a jazz master with others. Very generous Simone. Thank you. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia.
A LABOR OF LOVE, SO IT SEEMS... EXCEPTIONAL INSTRUCTION FORMAT... POSSIBLY A NEW 'THE MOST ULTIMATE Tuition Free ULTIMATE MOST ULTIMATE....AND A GENUINE PLAYER WHO KNOWS HE WALKS AMONG THE EARTH, LIKE SO MANY GREAT JAZZ PLAYERS...HUMBLE, FANTASTICO ! GRAZIE !!!
Hi Hugo, try to learn it by ear ,than it will be indelible in your mind and you'll have your "Dictionary" enriched. In my opinion tabs are the worst mean to do that, notes are fine but ear is better! Thanks for asking
Simone, thank you for this. I commented on another of the same video. I LOVE this song so much. You are so talented and handsome. Thank you for sharing with us. I don't know music, but I STILL enjoyed watching this and thought others might also :)
ok, beautiful, grazie per rispondere al mio messaggio, yeah the thinker is a very groovy song, i don't know exactly what part of the song i would like to play, but definitly could be the part where play super quickly. thank you my brother.
Bortolami is the best lesson you can get on this George Benson version. Oppose to the other tutorials of educated guitar players just jamming the solo and less concern teaching it. That said, I like this guys personality but wish he would return emphasizing the fast part and forget the the right hand.
I really don't know how he came up with that lick, I was working on that with a student and we were both astonished, he must come from another planet:)
Thank you so much for this man!!! Very good tutorial! One request for the future if possible. Can you play the difficult part, quick pull-offs etc over a click? Can't tell if it's a fast triplet or 16th? Sounds like a bunch of random notes when I play that part (The most difficult part) ...lol I got all the notes and am working it out at different tempos by slowing the video down, but it is still extremely difficult for a noobe like me to get how it fits over the rhythm. That would be very helpful! If you don't have time I will pay you to make a video or Skype. Thank you! Brian.
Cia Simone, come stai? I discovered this song by Benson about a year ago and really looked for several tutorials ... your tutorial is simply inspiring. you are very talented and didactic. today I will try to play the rithim guitar, and maybe in the future I will be able to do the solo. One question ... what kind of equipment is necessary to get this timbre on the semi-acoustic guitar? What amplifier do you use, any effect pedal? Thank you if you can comment. Saluti dal Brasile
Ciao Levi! Thank you, I have to say that video is quite old and now I have much more knowledge, I suggest you to follow my recent videos and my facebook page for more instructional material. Now I have an Ibanez Gb 10, with 0.12 round wound strings wich sounds closer to the original sound and I plug it into a Fender Hotrod deluxe. In this video I was playing a Sheraton with 0.11 strings. If you are interested in something in between the thick jazz string and a regular string in terms of briliance I really suggest you to try thomastik bebop, they have a plain G so you can still bend if you want, but they give you a fatter tone.
Ahahha ti giuro assomigli moltissimo a Daniele Gottardo, hai anche la stessa chitarra! ( parlo di somiglianza fisica ovviamente, e anche il tuo inglese è simile al suo) e comunque complimenti bella lezione!
Good teaching my friend, i'm from Guatemala City, i would like to play like george benson, could you show us how to play the thinker? thank you my dear friend, by the way where are you?
Hey Simone, piacere, grazie grazie per rispondere il mio messaggio, yeah the thinker is a very good song, but i don't what kind of part of the song i would like to learn, maybe the most quick part, where he use a rare scale with super speed. Thank you my brother.
BUENA CATEDRA. Simone me podrias decir cuales son tus setings (modulaciones) de trebble, middles, bass, etc. para tener ese sonido de jazz???? can you tell me your settings of your sound please?? SALUDOS DESDE SONORA MEXICO
Hi my friend!! I think many different things can influence your sound, the kind of strings, wich for a jazzy tone gotta be flat wound, (even if in this video I'm not using them), the kind of guitar a pickups, and how you set your amp. In general a jazz guitar sound is clean but a little bit dark, so an example of EQ could be Bass 4, Middle 6, and treble 1, but again it variates from amp to amp, then you can adjust your tone even from your guitar. In this video Simone Bortolami - Take Five - MCR ® we used a Jcm 900 wich is not the tipical jazz guitar amp, but we found a very good tone, on a Marshall always keep the trebles at 0, hahahah, have fun!!

How did you ever figure out that lick at 3:20? Amazing. I had no idea how Benson came up with that. Never heard anyone else play anything like it.
I really don't know how he came up with that lick, I was working on that with a student and we were both astonished, he must come from another planet:)
It comes from the heart...Benson sings as well...or better than he plays...Think Masquerade... Comes from the same place:)
Gordon Lawson - He plays just as well as he sings. This mind-boggling lick is just one example of that.
Great
