I miss the 80s! There’s some intense pits here & there still, but they’re not like the 80s, when there was little respect and more rage & danger. Glad MDC is still touring & doing their thing well! I F-ing missed them in Dallas a couple months ago, damnit! I’m sure they’ll be back, they’re playing around the US this year (2023)!
Rock is dead, the 80's hc/punk scene was it's peak. The chaos and anarchy were so beautiful - you never knew what to expect. The pain was real, the joy of madness was on us all in the pit. We hurt each other then picked each other up and shared a beer. God, how I miss it. By the 90's it was pretty much gone. Nirvana was no replacement for the Replacements.
Raw roots HC punk - punk rock on fire with a conscious message - 1984 was the peak with so many killer bands… before lots of bands went metal jock core. Back in dec of 97 I was honored to meet Franco in my hometown of El Paso Texas… and I’ll say after our talk and what he had to say, my life was never the same. “The opposite of love is fear.” Thanks Franco and MDC for your work, all the records, the PEACE compilation and the timeless message in your lyrics. ❤❤❤
One of my fav HC bands. I came into the scene when I found out that a lot of the HC bands were talking about what I'd thought for a long time. Saw them couple times in the 80s. We are still here 0
MDC is the music that says it all, then and now, timeless, i am proud i saw them live in 1986 in Amsterdam Korsakoff the lyrics are in the face i Love it
Fucking awesome video. Thank you so much from a 43 year old hardcore freak. This band is a big reason I stay involved in grind core and hardcore til I can't play or move anymore. Great fucking quality too.
Anyone else have Flipside #4 on VHS? We wore this out back in the day. Saw MDC in 01. This is just as relevant today as back then. Thank you for posting!
Saw mdc on crusifix lane london 1994 under the arches, if they toured here again i'd go and see em ! How lucky we were to have lived through the eighties and nineties when freedom was still up for the taking, a lot harder these days one can only try though !
Remember moshing to these guys, DK's, Minor Threat, and the Zero Boys the night before the 4th of July 1982 Alpine Village Torrance CA. I got to say MDC was the best on the bill that night. My girlfriend at the time was older that me (28 to 21) and not into HC so I went alone. She was so grateful I came home to her that night instead of going home with some little punk rocker that she cooked me up a giant platter of Chili Rellenos when I got home, my personal favorite. She made the best Chile Rellenos, I've never had one better since. Really good times.
Thank you for sharing this. One of my all time fav bands, and amazing sound quality considering the age of this footage. I used to follow your h.c. music blog months ago.
Goddamn that looked intense Daves Vocals are fuckin ferocious one of the best hardcore vocalists of all time!!!!! I would have so loved to attend this being part of a shittier younger generation I wish I was back in those times with the golden age of hardcore!!!!!
One of thee greatest US/HC bands ever. Wish I could of seen em in 84, didn't see them live till 1990, saw them a bunch of times at all the local SF bay clubs, mostly 924 Gilman, from 1990 to about 1992, 93. Those early 90s shows at the Gilman were epic. The Epicenter, 16th and Valencia, MDC was always there. Well, many times. I wore their shirt to shreds, the cop/kkk one. Definitely a band that shaped my politics to this day. Fuck the Pigs!
Penso di essere il fan numero uno degli MDC and Dave fkn Dictor, fact!!! I think I'm the MDC number one fan since the day i listen them for the first time
I just found this. I'm one of the stage punkers shoving people off the stage. The singer was so pissed at me that I was wearing an MDC shirt that I bought in Long Beach and they didn't get any money from it. Capitalists? Working for Goldenvoice for $20 and couple of beers.
They buy, buy, buy, all day long…,Capitalists Suck, Capitalists Suck, Capitalists Suck! MDC, DRI! The true, relevant bands! The hell with these glam and rock stars! This is where it’s at!
Yuse to party at the Stains House. Really didn't know what they were, Chomsky, Marx, or SigFreud. All I can tell you I just surfed thru the back door. Crazy Bastards.
nice video, recording quality, for the day. some bands don't translate the same live like they do on record. about all bands maybe. on record these guys are real distinct. live it seems sorta genericified. course, it's MDC, just seems like it's not as striking to my ears as on vinyl. bad brains can really make it live and minor threat. could be the recording quality.
Do shows like this still happen? Is punk kinda dead? Is hardcore (like this) old man music? Yeah there's big shows, but half the crowd is on the stage and $5 got you in and 10 big name bands would play these mega shows. More bands would play in one night than would make it to detroit in a year. True!
Dude I'm from Orange County, CA. Punk is alive and well down here. I saw MDC summer of 2013 in a shitty bar with barely a stage. They went on at about 1:30am. The room was packed and I've never seen a pit like it, before or sense.
I'm sure it was a greats show, but I'm commenting more on the scope of these mid eighties huge shows where thousands of people would pay under $10 and see like 12 well known bands. When dino-punk bands play, its usually over $12 just to see one.
Not anywhere. Its illogical and theres not enough fans for it anywhere. Nowhere that big will book anyone and the shows that have 12 bands on it don't draw crowds unless its a power violence show
Yeah punk is kinda dead, Everybody these days just wants to be hardcore/beat down and 2step/do karate in the pit, and buy all the "sick merch" they can..
If only those punks understood how annoying it was having them on stage pushing each others while we were trying to play. . It wasn't a problem if a few came up and stage dived, but some of them were messing with the instruments and the microphones... or trying to push the singer off stage.. 👎🎸
their first album is def in my TOP 5 punk albums of all time.
Paul Dianno amen
Agree
May i ask what the other 4 albums are that are in your TOP 5? Amitābh
In my top 5 too
MDC's music/lyrics are just as relevant today (if not more so) than they were back in the day!!
+Jesse Rothbeind Dave Dictors words were prophetic....Business on parade.
Jesse Rothbeind more relevant than rap
USA, you are infected with killer cops these days, more than ever! To bad
every single song is so impactful!! only exception is Radioactive Chocolate. imo nuclear power has proved pretty safe when regulated properly.
Going to see these guys Feb 9 2024, Santa Cruz, Ca. Cannot wait. Dave is still one of the nicest guys and still kicking ass.
I miss the 80s! There’s some intense pits here & there still, but they’re not like the 80s, when there was little respect and more rage & danger. Glad MDC is still touring & doing their thing well! I was at a dead boys show in Los Angeles last night I thought about this but the only time we ever see Dave is In the east Bay ...
MDC is still touring, saw them several months ago in AZ .
London..1984-5. One of the best gigs i've ever seen and the crowd were mental...Insane...Best U.S. punk band ever...
Rock is dead, the 80's hc/punk scene was it's peak. The chaos and anarchy were so beautiful - you never knew what to expect. The pain was real, the joy of madness was on us all in the pit. its true Nirvana was more of punk tribute band than an actual punk band.
@@brentmcintyre5529 they covered Bad Brains and The 4 Skins p much.
Maybe Modern Lovers and Big Black too.
I remember having the same feeling of not knowing what to expect when I saw the Dead Kennedys back then in Montreal.
Get out more bud

MDC is one of the most epic punk albums ever!
One of my fav HC bands. I came into the scene when I found out that a lot of the HC bands were talking about what I'd thought for a long time. Saw them couple times in the 80s. We are still here 0
This was at Olympic or Perkins palace they got arrested at gig they played
Saw them in London...gotta be 84/85....one of the most mental gigs I've ever been involved in....pure carnage.... What a band..
the intro to I Remember is very suspenseful here, would have loved to have experienced this show.
I see this fabulous band in 90/91 (?) @ Craponne/Lyon/France, Amazing, crazy, chaos total, one of my best souvenirs of gigs!....
Fucking Fabulous. I last saw them in 1986 or 5 ,whatever supported by Michelle Shocked. Only because she was after them in a record shop display.
Just stuck to their strong undiluted message and took the knocks. Completely genuine, thoroughly decent people. Read the book!
+Shawn Reedy Are you THAT Shawn?
I saw mdc live twice
Samuel blinne your so lucky
Anyone else have Flipside #4 on VHS? We wore this out back in the day. Saw MDC in 01. This is just as relevant today as back then. Thank you for posting!

Pure raw energy with in your face lyrics
one of the best and abrasive punk bands from the states. i saw them live in toronto back in the days. a sweat bath.
Remember moshing to these guys, DK's, Minor Threat, and the Zero Boys the night before the 4th of July 1982 Alpine Village Torrance CA. I got to say MDC was the best on the bill that night. I was at show , on leave fem the army
I was at this very same show!
Do you think they headlined or opened? Who knows TSOL could have come on next. That’s the beauty of of that era
Punk rock San Francisco at the Vats and on Broadway was the scene in the 80's
Goddamn, this is how you do punk, can't think of too many bands that rock this hard today.
Destructo disk,Grumpster,Mommy long legs
Thank you for sharing this. One of my all time fav bands, and amazing sound quality considering the age of this footage. I used to follow your h.c. music blog months ago.
The good ole days... Dave you are so hardcore!!! Still rocking it....on their next tour already, one after another.
Did anyone see them at the Reseda Country Club? That was an amazing show.

MDC is opening for some of GBHs shows this year! It’s 2023 btw.
saw these guys at cabaret metro in chicago...one of the best punks shows ever.
Goddamn that looked intense Daves Vocals are fuckin ferocious one of the best hardcore vocalists of all time!!!!! I would have so loved to attend this being part of a shittier younger generation I wish I was back in those times with the golden age of hardcore!!!!!

I think I'm the MDC number one fan since the day i listen them for the first time
Love it!
Legend of course
awesome.
People surprised how relevant this still is, it will be relevant as long as America worships capitalism.
saw them at Leoncavallo (Milan) in 1989 or 1990. Nice memories, audience went nuts
if you are in a punk band today, and you don't put this much energy and tenacity into your shows, just quit.
ahahah yeah those sedated bands are really killing the style, if they keep this up then the phrase punk is dead will remain true forever.
I just found this. I'm one of the stage punkers shoving people off the stage. The singer was so pissed at me that I was wearing an MDC shirt that I bought in Long Beach and they didn't get any money from it. Capitalists? Working for Goldenvoice for $20 and couple of beers.

Rich kid from Glen Cove Long Island NY. His brother is retired NYPD. M.D.C Mayday Dave's Con
bloodclot is entertaining at best!
This band had a true cult following for a minute I heard. 88 summer of hate
