I’m Polynesian. Tongan 💛👊💯
If you get a Polynesian tattoo then you become part of us no matter what you’re DNA 🧬
One LOVE my brothers and sisters!

🌴🥥💪👊🤎💯💯💯
Extremely refreshing take. I love to see it. Stay blessed.
Hello, where can I go to get one done?
I’ve really been wanting one brotha. I’m not Polynesian I’m half white, half Mexican. But I’m really dark (super tan) have long hair people call me maui or Jason momoa type of deal. I have long hair. I look native, Tongan Polynesian and I want to learn more about the culture of you guys and history and am very thankful you’d be cool with me getting one. The rock is my idol and I love his sleeve. I want my own unique style and im drawn to your guys culture! Much love🤙
Thank you for saying this I’m white but love Polynesian culture and tattoos I would really love to get a tattoo in this art style to keep the tradition alive
I have a polynesian tattoo, I'm native American, I got locked up, and found myself hanging out with samoans and natives, and mine was actually drawn up by them and also tattooed by the same person, never did I hear it was disrespectful for me to have one.
Tbh samoans on the island promote everyone getting tataus or pacifika tribals. Besides peas. But in cali and hawaii, most samoans don’t like seeing people with tribals unless they know them. I am one of those samoans from cali, who don’t like people having our tataus. It is one of the unique things in my culture and of my people, and it does annoy me subconsciously seeing people with it. But its just ink to them so then again idc.
@@slug8914If you from Cali then you should know about prison. Sometimes the natives will ride with the woods and Southsiders but sometimes they ride with the other car and become real close with the Islanders.
If the Samoans in prison tatted him then that means he earned it more than u. I’m Tongan I got spearheads tatted by a Samoan
I’m grateful that I’ve come across your videos they’ve been insightful. I’ve always had a admiration for Polynesian tattoos not only that but the culture in general. I love to learn about different cultures in general. Getting a Polynesian tattoo has always been an interest of mine. And I kind of shot it down because I didn’t want to feel as is I was appropriating or disrespecting anyones culture. I’ve done research as well which is why I take interest in getting one it’s not the looks of them (they do look dope af tho) but the means and stories behind them. I’ve never thought I would ever get a tattoo, in my mind the only way I would get a tattoo is if it had deep significant meaning to me. And nothing ever stuck out to me. Until I came across Polynesian tattoos. The fact that your life, your journey and growth can be documented on your skin, every piece of it being significant even the placement of them caught me attention. Especially now that I’m 22 I’ve really been considering getting some type of tattoo because of everything that I’ve gone through and how much I have overcome so far in life. I understand why getting those tattoos can be an emotional thing, I get a little emotional just thinking about it.
Obviously educating myself more on it is on the top of my list. Tik tok has been a helpful tool as well. There was a black guy on there who had gotten a Polynesian tattoo and people were asking him if he was Polynesian and he replied and said no and he apologized because when he had gotten the tattoo he was ignorant of the history etc behind them. But the Polynesians in his comments were very supportive and informative . I dropped a comment asking for their perspective on non Polynesians getting the tattoos and they said to educate yourself first, but majority of them had no problems with it at all, just as long as we take the time out to educate ourselves and respect the culture. As a black woman it’s a scary thing. I already get judged so the thought of getting judged and called an appropriator of a culture is was what concerns me. I know I will constantly have to have those conversations, which is okay. Ik for me seeing someone with a Polynesian tattoos is how I identify who is a Polynesian , so I understand y a lot of people would be wondering y a black woman has a Polynesian tattoo lol
This is a long comment but I just wanted to share my thoughts as a non Polynesian who is interested in Polynesian tattoo and also Polynesian culture in general. If I do decide to get one I would want to get a tattoo from someone who is open minded and willing to help me start me tattoo journey, and probably help me find a design that fits me best.
Also tip for people like me looking into it, here is a website I’ve used that has really helped me to further educate myself on Polynesian tattoos, as far as the history, the different variations of poly tattoos, meanings behind symbols etc. They have downloadable documents which is very helpful as well. Polynesiantattoosymbols.com
Good outlook, bruv. I have Irish, Egyptian, Mayan, Aztec, Poly, and Norse tattoos. I love the contrast and trying to be creative enough to put them all together. Good luck on your journey
Hi, did you get it??
Nice vid I would love to get a Polynesian tattoo but just from a Polynesian tattoo artist in a possible original way and I would love to learn more about it on my way to get one but your 'acceptance' much appreciated by me and looking forward to fulfill my dream
Great question!
Subscribing.
Am a black person from africa zambia I am really interested in getting an arm sleeve shark teeth tattoo because I respect and honor it
I have Filipino heritage. I've recently had a nasty scar on my arm and I want deeply to have the strength of my ancestors through a tattoo. I'm thinking and reading about my native ancestors and their symbols. I have some scars all over after an injury and surgery and it upsets me
Yes it is disrespectful for non Polynesians to get a Polynesian tattoo with no mana’o that means meaning . Some design have significant meanings to amakua and Alna and tribe and I live in Hawaii and the white military get Polynesian tattoos without knowing the meaning and that is not only stupid culture appropriating and white privilege but it’s unsettling to see a white man in the military that destroyed my peoples wearing designs that belong to my tribe and amakua what they don’t know is they are carrying a bad omen that will definitely get them killed of at war! In other words bad luck ,,,,,,
Completely understood.
Polynesian design and tattoo is wide spreed in south east asia specially in the philippines its very similar with our ancestors .
No it’s not, SE Asian designs would never get mistaken as Polynesian.
Filipinos with poly tribal want to be polynesian so bad, you guys have you're own markings so you should stick to them.

I am not Polynesian and I am planning to get a life story tattoo in Hawaii. To prepare for this, I have been learning to speak Hawaiian and studying the symbology used to create the story of my life and where I come from. I am not designing the art. That will be completely up to my artist and my story is interpreted by them.
It’s strange, I identify with so much within the culture. I really can’t explain it. My roommate/teammate in college was of Samoan/Hawaiian descent and he is truly my brother. Maybe that has something to do with it. But, I’m telling you, I cannot watch someone perform a Haka without getting emotional- ready to stand and fight. I’m getting worked up thinking about it.
I have roots to the Solomon Island
People will have their diffeent opinions but no one man is the gate keeper for our cluture in my opinion its a great way to spread our culture and values to the world so that people of al nationalites and culures can carry our values with them. In my mind this is a beatiful thing but alot people will feel diffrently.
Uce, no one cares for our culture or values besides our tataus. I hope you are tongan or samoan saying this because most if not all non polys getting tribals are samoan tattoos.
I used to talk sh*t to people about it when I first moved from the Islands but now I don't bother those Non Polynesians anymore cause It's our own Polynesians artists that does it. So I guess its a different world we live in now.
Yeah… my cousin is a big tatau artist who tats non Polys… It’s annoying, but I guess its just business.💀🥲
Polys who give it away to non polys are sellouts and are making money off our culture to benefit their own.
just so you know if you get Thai tattoos it's not disrespect at all because all Thai tattoos is for blessing and protection from the great god spirit
I would LOVE to get a Polynesian tattoo that is as authentic as a fair-skinned traveler like me is allowed to have.
Great video. I have no idea how anyone could take it as anything other than cultural appreciation. Some ignorant lazy designs, yes, but still cultural apprecation.
Same reason veterans lose their minds over stolen valor, it’s just some guy in a military uniform right?
In my personal opinion, and I repeat PERSONAL OPINION, I'm quite agree: It's cultural appreciation when you know what you put under your skin and when there is a long work of study of this tradition. Expecially when is not your culture. Polynesian tattoo is a long tradition that because of white, european colonization almost risked to disappear. Before cultural appreciation, Polynesia needs this kind of justice: knowledge.
It's ok, i think, that a white person (or another ethnic) does a polynesian tattoo. But doing a polynesian tattoo just for the aesthetic and not for the story or the meaning isn't it another form of colonization? I think so
@@mariaerrani531 You speak as if you know all about Le Pacifika. Colonization did stop a lot of Polynesians from continuing the art of tatau, but Samoa, Tonga, and some of Hawaii had kept it in practice even through colonization. Especially Samoa, most people who aren’t Polynesian tend to get Samoan tattoos. Is it wrong to want to keep our culture unique to those who are of Polynesian descent in your opinion? I don’t speak for all Samoans but Its hilarious how you people get to have an opinion on something that doesn’t belong to you.
We don’t care for your appreciation of our culture. Its ok if you don’t have culture to call your own, its sad that you would insult another’s because you don’t have one. You describe it as ignorant and lazy. Yet Polynesian tataus are the origin of tattoos in world history. You can call it what you like but at least we have culture and “ignorant lazy designs”, that everyone wants.
Exactly
I work in tourism on Rarotonga, some tourists want a tattoo as a momento of their holiday. I don't see a problem with it to be honest, if they want a poly tattoo and are willing to pay, and the artist is willing to do the job then I'm fine.
Since when do polynesians own tattoo's? Was it disrespectful what polynesians hijacked reggae music and called it Jawaiian?
Obviously polynesians own polynesian tattoos you clown. Each island has their own kind of tattoos and most of the time they are sacred.
We don’t own tattoos, we’re talking about our designs. Wiggers don’t represent our race either
Loll, Reggae Originated in Jamaica, I’m assuming, Tattooing Originated in Polynesia, the word Tattoo itself is a Polynesian word that is being pronounced incorrectly🤧
Are you really trying to compare music to getting something tattooed on your skin? You cornball.
i don't get this tattoo appropriation thing. I am Filipino and we have the same cultural background with the Polynesians and the rest of the Pacific Islanders. I think nowadays anyone can get a tattoo anyway they want.
Lol you Filipinos always try to group yourselves in with the poly's so bad.
No you cannot. Only polys can get this kind of tattoo
@@HoneyBearLife I respect your opinion
The disrespect to our Samoa culture, the tattoo and designs of the Samoa islands represents community, power, status, respect, honor, and is a mark of pride that are only to be worn by symbols and designs.
The disrespect to our Samoa culture, the tattoo and designs of the Samoa islands represents community, power, status, respect, honor, and is a mark of pride that are only to be worn by Samoans. For those who have no cultural influence or heritage background it is an act of disrespect to display our symbols and designs.
Just admit it, it looks cool there’s no meaning to it. Yes respect but mainly people get it because it looks cool
