Straight up NO. It doesn’t matter if you respect the culture or married to one ect, regardless of what you think of if you are not of blood you do not deserve or have the right to put on a Polynesian tattoo. You are disrespecting the culture by not RESPECTING the culture. There’s a reason why and I just told y’all. And I’ll repeat it, if you are not of blood you don’t have the right to put that on you REGARDLESS of what you think. The answer is straight up NO!

Why don't they understand this? It seems people don't understand the difference between earning something and buying it.

@@peterkotara I know why but it’s pretty obvious because it’s a business thing. It’s all money to them and pretty much it’s out there. It can be any tattoo artist that can study them and put em on anyone because it’s business and making money aka “Buying” like you said, not “earning”. It’s a real shame though. But at least when they do go to the real ones they will decline, like for instance a Māori tattoo on the mouth you can’t or will not put that on anyone, or the pe’a from Samoa, them too will not put that on anyone. And it’s so crazy that people that ain’t Polynesian are trying to BE US or be POLYNESIAN. To me that’s what it is and I don’t care what excuses they have. Be your own culture and not copy or claim or be us because you ain’t. You don’t have our ancestry because probably your ancestry is lame or you don’t have a clue about yours but yet want to have ours??? Bro gtfoh.

@@KonaDaGamah In new Zealand, no self repecting tohunga ta moko will apply ta moko (or moko kauae for women) to anyone without express permission of the Iwi. These gifts tell our whakapapa, no one can invent a lineage and have it written to their body. These things are Tapu.
For those who have no cultural influence or heritage background it is an act of disrespect to display their symbols and designs.
I don't have a single marking on my body, my husband however has full body head to toe ta moko including full face, a journey that took more than 15 years and was performed on the Marae.
I don't take these things lightly.
