I think the overall problem of the show was the lack of marketability. The ditching of the continuity gimmick definitely effected it, but with Olivia Holt as your main driving force for the show (who was pushed by Disney at the time but not really crazy popular), the show wasn’t bound to be let off the ground. I’m satisfied with amount we got.
True having your show relying on the “How We Got Here” trope is definitely going to get boring and repetitive after awhile. Not only that but it sorta of limits what can be written as you essentially have to start from the third act
my favourite thing about it is that they felt like an actual friend group and the show never had any problems mixing up the pairings, anyone could have a storyline with anyone and it never felt weird. other shows, the friend groups were usually 4 people that would be paired in the same ways always, so i liked that this show always switched it up, and actually just had them all together at one point in every episode
If you didnt like the first episode I think you would like the leaked origipnal cut of the pilot. I has the more offbeat humor the rest of the first season had. The final cut of the episode felt like an "executivr approved" version, with plot points and scenes re-shot to be more kid friendly. The whole baby sitter gag was also much darker since she was actually dead during the episode; and it origionally ended with criminal investigators about to wheel away her body.
I stopped watching Kickin It for a while and had no idea she left, but when I finally got to watch an episode and saw that Kim was gone, I was upset but it made sense since I knew she was in I Didn’t Do It.
The fact that we were still in the Obama administration when this show came out absolutely blows my mind. Like… I can’t believe this show is THAT old now. 😅
Piper Curda has been vocal about her time on IDDI and Disney on her TikTok more recently. If I'm remembering correctly, I think the writers were changed between seasons. It is interesting to see despite the short lifespan of the show, it still participated in some of the cool Disney Channel things that aren't seen anymore (i.e. Wand ID)
It was also due to how the show limited itself in season 1 as the what just happened" situation gets overly repetitive after awhile and you constantly have to write the episode from the start of the third act
i’ve never seen this bc i didn’t really watch the olivia holt era of disney channel, but the promo at the beginning reminds me of those skits people do to make fun of disney show tropes😭
Amazing fact: I appeared in just ONE episode of this series. I was a kid in a green plaid shirt walking up to that guy in the tac-dog suit who said "Don't even think about it." Update: the episode was "The Doctor Is In"
I Didn't Do It is one of the few shows that was on Disney Channel where it just had a coming of age plot about regular teens. Other shows on the Channel had teens who were famous, had secret double lives, magical abilities, talking pets, lived in unconventional locations, etc.
I was excited to watch the show for Olivia Holt, it was her own show on Disney. Plus she had “girl vs monster”. I liked the first season but not the second season. The second season changed the whole “I didn’t do it” gimmick. The only thing I liked about season 2 were Logan and jasmine possibly getting together
I could never vibe with this show as a kid 💀 I found the theme song alright, the commercials made it seem boring, and when I tried sitting through an episode, I'd end up watching something else halfway through and considering that shows like Jessie, Austin & Ally, K.C. Undercover, Best Friends Whenever, Girl Meets World, and even Dog with a Blog were airing that had arguably more interesting concepts, characters, and storylines, the only time I Didn't Do It would be on my radar was during that Halloween Crossover they did in 2015
I can agree that those shows had more interesting concepts, but I'd watch I Didn't Do It over Girl Meets World and Dog with a Blog. Hated those shows 😂
@@MightyGhostYTthat's valid, rewatching clips from Girl Meets World makes me question my taste from when I was a kid, and Dog with a Blog is pretty self explanatory 💀

Pretty much hit the nail on the head, that it's a really good teen ensemble comedy that lost something in Season 2 with the abandonment of the first season's gimmick.
I have never even heard of this show, and even tho you're showing me footage from it a part of my brain refuses to accept that this isn't an elaborate bit.
I watched this show when it came out and as a tween I loved and really enjoyed rewatching it recently!! I found myself genuinely laughing at the jokes and really wish they hadn’t canceled it :/
This is such a well put video. You did a good job higlighting your critques and and praises fir fhe show. I only vaguely remembering watcing this shownin 2014, but now i feel linda nostalgic for it.
One more thing, the bloke who played Obama was Reggie Brown, who made his bones as an Obama impersonator (somehow), so Disney didn't just find him off the streets.
I Didn’t Do It’s cancellation really pissed me off. I was rooting for everyone especially Olivia Holt as this was her first show being a MAIN character. Piper Curda was coming up too. I wanted to see more of Logan and Garrett over time. Someone needs to reboot this… along with Best Friends Whenever and Coop & Cami.
used to watch this show all the time, you unlocked some memories for me haha also piper curda (jasmine) was in a really good movie called may december that got nominated for an oscar (and should have been nominated for more, great ass movie)
The thing about the show's gimmick is I feel like it kinda devolved into just showing the climax of the episode at the beginning as season one progressed. And it particularly bugged me in the episode "Ball or Nothing," where Lindy and Logan are explaining the episode's story to Dick Butkus, but then Delia and Jasmine are having a B plot, which kind of messes with the timeline, because clearly they wouldn't be telling Mr. Butkus about two unrelated high school girls having a disagreement. So is that happening live or in the past? Also, I think Garret floats between stories.
I thought the show was fine but it definitely aired when disney was losing its core audience due to aging out of the demographic. The friendships between the whole group and individuals felt very believable and I didn't doubt that they could hang out without anything crazy happening. It was a nice change of pace to see so much chemistry in a group on tv show aimed for kids

I remember liking this show a lot as a kid. Also that I had a crush on Logan (and by extension the actor who played him lol.) I believe him and Delia were my favorite characters.
Honestly I always got headaches whenever this show was on, I just didn't care for it and some of the characters annoyed me too much. There were definitely some funny jokes though, and I did keep tabs on the show to follow the Jasmine and Logan love story (I was rooting for them since that season 1 episode where they were working together the entire time).
I Didn’t Do It was my favorite Disney Channel show, and I was really upset when it was cancelled. I watched this show so many times over, I had the pilot episode memorized. I’m glad it’s getting the attention it deserves.
I realized when Disney channel started losing their hype when they stopped dubbing it in my country lol the furthest we got was the first episode of liv and Maddie , then it shut down 💀
I didn’t do it was actually a very good show. The only problem is that Disney held it back probably because it was aimed at kids rather than teens. Had it been for Teens and kept the S1 writers, because the show was way more funny than any show on Disney, it would’ve been way better. The entire cast carried the show and that’s hard to find. Every single character dominated the scene when they were together and not many casts and actors can have that chemistry to where nobody outshined the other
Hey man just wanted to give some clarification on why it’s called Ditka High, Mike Ditka is an all time great NFL tight end who played for the Bears and is in the hall of fame. The show takes place in Chicago which is where the bears play! So it’s actually pretty cool. Another instance of this is HOF QB Dan Marino who played for the Miami Dolphins name is on the high school of Austin and Ally which takes place in Miami
I haven't seen this show, but I'm guessing it's set in Chicago, which makes Ditka High School a very fitting name. Mike Ditka played for the Bears in the 60s and was the coach when they won the Super Bowl

I personally didn't like the Logan and Jasmine storyline. I don't know if I felt it was sudden or what since it was so long ago, but it was something that shocked me for sure. I could be so wrong on this, but for some reason I remember Lindy getting blamed or hated on for like the stupidest stuff, besides her not liking them as kids, and it always used to annoy the hell out of me. It was something along that line anyway. IDK. (To be fair I also could have been biased as, personally, she was my favorite besides Delia.)
