  • The 28' Halcyon tiny house model by Fritz Tiny Homes is an example of tiny home design being refined and perfected. At first glance, it might seem like a pretty simple floor plan, but there are so many clever features designed into it that make it incredibly functional. And they've managed to fit in a lot of the items on people's wish lists, like a comfortable sofa, a bathtub, a washing machine, a standard staircase with a railing, a loft you can stand up in, a proper closet for clothes, space to work from home, and more.

This particular home is designed to be off-grid with ground-mounted solar panels, water tanks under the home, and a waterless toilet. The in-floor heat and hot water are provided by a combi-boiler. And the exterior boasts unique rooflines, loads of picture windows, and metal siding which is low maintenance.

I disagree it has enough storage for a weekend getaway not a daily life, although you have addressed other things, tiny homes lack a lot of storage and extra rooms, the kitchen barely has enough storage, the desk is a joke, I have seen better designs but keep at it, maybe someone will make a winner

Well done on the drop loft! I've watched thousands of tiny home tours and about 5% of them have drop lofts. It seems simple enough to design them so that you can put appliances under the drop part of the loft. I've seen them with kitchens where they've got the fridge under the drop part and cupboards like you've done here.

I'm stunned that you managed to fit not only a full size fridge-freezer, but also a washing machine AND a entire bath inside the footprint of a trailer! Not to mention over 6 foot in height on the drop loft is pretty unique and absolutely perfect! Honestly I can't fault a _single_ thing with this tiny home build! Even the design of the bathroom sink is genius, having it drain out the side to keep the underside completely free and clear of any pipework ... that's a better layout than even my full blown kitchen in my _very_ non-movable house!! I might have to steal that idea and see how I can incorporate it inside my own place.
I know this is meant to be moved around from location to location, but honestly I could see someone purchasing like an acre of land near some woods, getting electricity and water supplied to the field and just hooking it up as a more permanent house there. Who needs all the extra that comes with a full blown property?

1st) it would be more handy if the freezer and fridge opened to the other side.

If you wanna be successful, you must take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to making you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life...

Very nice, thoughtful build. I would reverse the fridge & freezer doors so that they open into the ktichen area & not to the bathroom side, & add slat bars on each of the panty shelves to keep things on the shelves.
Wondering why you didn't make all of the bottom stairs with storage - is it over the wheel well so no space other than the bottom step & further along for the laundry combo unit?
LOVE the bathtub, and the concealed coat closet and the dropped loft, but wonder how one makes the bed (have back injuries). Really appreciate that you are designing these for our cold Canadian climate. Oh, and a price for this build would be nice to know.
Thanks for sharing, and best wishes!

    • @fritztinyhomesinc
      @fritztinyhomesinc Рік тому

We would have liked to have the fridge door that way too but it interferes with the hardware in the pantry. It is hard to see in the video, but the pantry shelves do have lips on them to prevent stuff from falling off. The adjustability of the shelves prevents those lips from being too tall as it minimizes how much can be stored in there.
Under the stairs is utilized for a utility closet and fender. There is A LOT packed under those stairs.

    From their website:
Due to the custom, efficient and high quality nature of our builds a typical broad range for a tiny home would be $185,000 - 275,000 + tax CAD depending on length, style, layout, utilities, and fit and finish. There is so much that goes into a build and determining price. It all depends on what you need and where you want to put your priorities into your home.

That is a really smart design.
The couch tripped me out. I've never seen a couch convert into bunk beds. LOL. The wall in between the sink and the shower is brilliant. I've never seen anyone do that. It freed up so much space under the sink and I'm betting it made plumbing the shower/tub easier as well. The height of the kitchen counters is, um...interesting.. I'm sounding like a broken record - I've never seen (or heard of) anyone do that before. I heard most folks say they do not want upper cupboards in the kitchen because it makes it feel too tight. I really want that cupboard space, I have lots of kitchen stuff. In fact I think dishwashers are a waste of cupboard space and I haven't one in 30 years...ugh I feel old....
The only suggestion I would make (I've seen a few other builders do this too) is NOT put the spices next to the oven/stove. The heat build up from the oven will decimate herbs and the spices won't fair well either.

It would feel warm and cozy during winter in Ottawa. With the hydronic in-floor heating coupled with a really efficient exterior envelope, this home is toasty warm in the most sever weather.

You showed two work space(kitchen island and window area) yet I see no outlets to plug in? Am I missing them?

Yes, you are missing them. They are hard to see in this video. The one on the hutch is hiding out of site at the bottom of the stairs. There are 2 plugs at the workspace hidden behind the decorations. We put plugs on or accessible on every horizontal surface including the plant ledge and on top of the fridge. This is so important in our tiny home design so the home is functional for full-time living.
