Indeed the awesome search for " The Big W"!!!! remains a best totally classic comedy even today 2024!!! A 1960s comedy talents never will be equaled, the cast, director. locations & situations they fell into are brilliant comedy, period!!! Everyone must see this movie, repeatedly!!!
Loved her dancing with Dick Shawn in the classic Mad, Mad, Mad World. The deadpan face she held was a classic. Great legs as well. Do yourselves a favour and UA-cam the clip.
Ms. Chase mentions "class". She exudes every letter. She is both insightful and intelligent. She gives us a peek, into a far better time. Thanks for sharing.
I was watching an episode of the old cowboy show ,Bonanza and i saw this beautiful energetic female dancer in a saloon, Wow!! i thought. So i waited till they put the credits up to see who she was , Barrie Chase , she is Unbelievable!!!!!! 😲 she moves so effortlessly across a room and over tables and open spaces, she is Awesome!. I had never heard of you up till now, but i will never forget now.😍😍 I've seen No modern day dancer can out dance the Lady. ❤❤ She is Truly one of a Kind. 😁
This lady is worthy of her own show. Grace and style. No dullard in her make up and talking of make up why not look presentable at any age? She looks classy and dignified, unlike some of the comments on here...
I think she is one of the most beautiful dancers. And it's not just her dancing. Her personality comes to the forefront when she dances and there is such a sweet shy quality about her. I never tire of watching her..
My sister and I have many times said "mutual I'm sure" over the years and we howl with laughter! So much character in one line! Her dancing is amazing and quite the career. So many years of uncredited work, glad she went on to credited roles.
From the start, a terrible interview by the interviewers, with only the grace of a beautiful, competent and well spoken star to save it. Ms Barrie if I was there I would NOT have ignored your talent and achievements. We all know and appreciate the work that Fred did, but he was not sitting there in front of them. A missed opportunity, such a shame!
Everybody was young once, everybody had good looks once and she was blessed with fabulous legs and a beautiful face. You shouldn't be counting her years like that. For an 83 year old, she's brilliant. How many of those do you know who are sitting in nursing homes now? This was filmed a while ago, I suspect.
Fred said that during their last telecast, they had to arrange certain movements so Barrie was shielding Fred, who could no longer complete all the dance movements....that's when he knew it was time to quit. He was modest and a gentleman, at all times....Gene Kelley's super respect for him embarrassed Fred...on What's My Line a blindfolded panelist, trying to figure out the mystery guest's identity, felt she was closing in. She was thrown off when she asked him 'Do you consider yourself a singer?' Astaire replied, "No." Afterwards, she told him she thought he was a wonderful singer. He gracefully (what else?) disagreed....
You can just see it in the interview that she's a bright and intelligent lady.... no wonder she got selected to work with Fred. Would have been interesting to see an interview like this in 1958
I absolutely love watching Barrie dance, in fact I have to force myself to pay attention to the wonderful Fred. I was a dancer but not of her ilk - still, watching such clean, energetic movement as hers is beguiling and if I allowed myself, I'd be very very envious. She's still lovely and chic. Thanks for posting this
She was primarily a ballet dancer who took up stage work. Fred learned classical ballet but I guess you could call him something like....interpretive...a mixture of the lot. Does that make sense?
White Christmas lives on and on. So does Singing in the Rain. They were wonderful movies! Fred Astaire encouraged Debbie Reynolds as she cried under a piano thinking she could never learn her dance steps with Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly. Fred was a kind man.
Barrie Chase is a National treasure! At 83, she looks about 63, although there may have been some cosmetic enhancement, it appears to me minimal. She has kept those great legs and a dancer's body. Magnificent work with Astaire for the time capsule.
I would not call neither "minimal " nor "enhancement". Pretty sad that people identify themselves so much with their skin and the lenght of their legs. But hey, she was a beautiful person and surely difficult to let lose of that. Nevertheless. Great dancer.
Wow, this is amazing and great to see Barrie is still active. But arrg way too short interview. Take a look at Barrie's credits, she was in ***all*** the great musicals. And Barrie also got training from Jack Cole. If you can get through his regiment you can go anywhere in dancing from what she said in a presentation few years ago in Palm Springs. She also played the belly dancer who appears as hallucination in the movie "Flight of the Phoenix." Just a few minutes Barrie did the dance on hot desert sand which had to first be cooled with water to avoid burning her feet.
Why have I never heard of Barrie Chase! She's a beautiful dancer - and look at her now! 83? Really? Wow - those legs and her clothes. I should look so good at 83...
What beautiful legs...even at 83! She should show them off and make us all envious with a push to get up and take better care of ourselves at every age....and dance(?).

"Yeah, no, yeah-yeah-yeah no, no-yeah..." (?) She has great dancer legs for an 83-year-old, but that outfit is ridiculously unflattering. Barrie was terrific in Cape Fear (1962).

She had a bit part in some '50s and 60's movies like "Cape Fear," with Gregory Peck and the menacing Robert Mitchum, with some unknowns Martin Balsam, Telly Savalas. Even though the dances with Fred in that series were of shorter duration, the timing and sync were incredible to behold.
I remember her as Wallace Shawn’s silent dancing girlfriend in the movie “It’s a Mad Mad World” I believe that’s correct. She was a brunette to make a Bishop kick a hole in a stained glass window.
I agree the interview was cut short. She was barely able to finish her sentence and they had to let her go. Oh, so I don’t. I didn’t hear her mention anything about how it was being married to Fred Astaire. What kind of a person was he decides the dancer aspect we know he’s a brilliant dancer. What a talented woman! It is a shame she and others do that damn plastic surgery and tend to look like they belong in the House of Wax museum. She sure could dance! Thanks for the video.
I think really for a 10-15+ year period they were in love but not destined to marry. A major factor was his age. Of course, their TV dance numbers were wonderful.
Bodywise, stylewise, beautywise Barrie was the second coming of Rita Hayworth. It's no wonder that she and Fred looked like they had been dance partners for decades.

I just LOVED her in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World": Such a frosty demeanour and focussed dancing, while "Sylvester" went nuts 😆.

Fred for years declined to answer who was his greatest partner in dancing. In his old age he finally named Barrie Chase as his most talented partner.
Fred Astaire was amazing. Even as an older gentleman, he had class and style
