Me too buddy. Me too. I would've been aple to skip over that, but disgaea 6 was just so overall garbage that I couldn't help it... I even tried getting into it. Played like, 6 or 7 chapters? Quite effortlessly too, but nada, it was so boring and devoid of content that it was unbearable
I want to be a Disgaea fan so bad but every time I try one.. it’s like an overload of “things.”
Honestly I feel like 5 is a good one to try. Not too complicated too quickly and the nonsense numbers of 6 aren't there.
Yeah, they seem to like to hit you with all of the mechanics within the first hour and it's incredibly overwhelming. Even worse is, you put it down for a while and then come back to find you don't remember a single thing they taught you.

I'm like this. I love a lot of content, but it can be overwhelming. I wish games with a lot of content has something like a journal where it can mark down the place you were in the game, and what are your next objectives. So when I finally come back to the game I can know exactly what I was trying to do. I haven't even beat the 5th game, and I bought the 6th game a few months ago, and now the 7th game is about to be come out; I'm beyond overwhelmed.
Not even to mention the few other games I bought in the last 4 months 😭😭
The Grind system is real and Hard to Master

@@joaovictorcruz4314 go with 5. Best modern game. Though it doesn't matter that much. Just don't start with 6. Widely considered a disappointing or even bad entry.

at least the art style is still charming.
I remember when Disgaea 5 was released on Switch in the early days of its lifespan.
That was the complete version, though. The first version actually released on 2015.

It was the the first game in series to be excluding handheld ports, till the switch became a thing
1 and 4 will forever be my favorite. Ive played all of them so I cant wait for 7 ❤️

Do yourself a favor and absolutely try it out! However start with Disgaea 5. 6 is subpar and is widely considered the weakest of the modern Disgaea games. One reason for this being that they switched from hand drawn/painted sprites to 3D models in 6 onward. Therefore they knew that the investment in making the foundational elements for 3D moving forward would leave them with less content and features than previous games had, namely characters and classes. They also removed weapon based skills/abilities which has widely been considered a bad move and has been undone in 7. As a matter of fact, it was the FIRST thing featured in the Japanese trailer after the main characters were introduced. JUST to let everyone know, “Yeah, we got it. They’re back!”
Anyways 5 is an amazing game and there are TONS of guides and resources online that can help. A wonderful thing about Disgaea is that one can get as meticulous as one wants whilst playing it and still have a great time. You don’t have to spend hundreds of hours min maxing if that’s not your thing and there’s a myriad of ways to do to something to improve your characters. I can’t recommend it enough.
Oh and it runs great on switch too unlike 6, so there’s that as well but any version is awesome.

Bought the Japanese version and honestly it feels like we’re back to the good old days ;) it’s way better than 6 both content and story wise ❤

@@twinshades4085 I’m only around 5 hours in but in my opinion they fixed a ton from d6. ( more classes are back, skills, less useless number overload, smother animations, the auto function is handled better, better characters so far as well). Now I’m not going to say that it’s on par with the first 5 games but it’s a huge step in the right direction and back to the disgaea we love. :)

I love these games. Haven't played one in a while though. They're huge time sinks. If you have the time for a grind, this is the top of the line.
Hopefully this is better than the last one. So far D5 is my favorite.
I hope they bring back custom colors like in disgaea 5 or add a way to to add accessories to characters like hats or something like that at least to make them look different

Nice to see many of the classes that were cut in 6 making a return. I hope they keep the D.I. feature, though. That made all the tedious stuff about the series so much more bearable.
They have, cos there's one thing that requires you to only have it set to auto, and you have to strategically set you're characters D.I
i kinda wish they wouldnt do the auto battle thing again. it makes the game an "idle rpg" pretty much. all your actual time playing the game is just moving stuff around your inventory or spamming your action button on "buy this? are you sure?" menus
The auto battler is what pissed me off the most in 6. It’s not a phone mobile game for cryin’ out loud.

Glad to see a few favorite monster classes are back, still waiting for harpy to be playable, and if the Kitsune monster class isn't back its a missed opportunity with the setting.

You're missing out with D2 and 5. Stories aren't quite as good as 2, but they're excellent.
Disgaea 2 the only one that hasn´t made it´s way to Switch till now. Oh i forgot 3 this isn´t on Switch either.
Kinda wish it was still in HD 2D sprites of the characters.

@@markfaraday9204 I meant a localization port. Disgaea used to take longer to come west after the Japanese release. This JUST came out in Japan and we're getting it within the same year, fast for NIS.
Looks awesome! Would be great if they offered switching to 3D or classic sprites. Even if it's gonna be as a DLC
Played the JP Demo and a lot has improved since Disgaea 6

@@Memecs20 Disgaea 6 could barely run on switch. As far as gameplay goes for other consoles I think it was fine. The 3D models were kinda rough tho.
That and the absolutely beautiful sprite art from 5 being abandoned for 3D models that were alright was received very negatively
@@catorusmartin5617 Aside from many mechanics and classes having been removed too. It was hated in basically every regard, super depressing.
I loved Disgaea 5 but here's the thing with this series - these are utterly massive games with bonkers amounts of content - as such - they are insane time commitments. More than most JRPGs I've played. I had several hundred hours in 5 and only stopped because I wanted to play other games - NOT - because the game was finished and I had done everything.
It's so much of a commitment that I just can't see myself playing another for a really long time.
I bet Laharl and the other characters from previous Disgaea games will be DLCs

to disgaea stans in the comments, is this a series i need to go back and play all the previous games for or is it like FF where each one is standalone?
Final Fantasy is a very apt comparison, the most you'll be missing out on are some throwback nods (similar in style to how FF always keeps bringing Cid back), and not really knowing who the DLC characters are. (because they're all previous game protagonists who show up to have a little one-off episode). But as for the main game itself, they're all disconnected
Disgaea is mostly timelines and different dimensions which hasn't stopped them from traveling to other netherworlds connally
For example Disgaea 3's netherworld is a school while disgaea 1's a sprawling landscape with 5 to 6 regions very close together.
1 - 4 is a moving timeline while 5 is set in the past.

Not every skill needs to transition to an animation scene. It was better when some skills , the early ones stayed on the map and were small, but got crazier as the game went on.

Which is not a good thing and probably indicates another D6 level of rushjob. The game felt incomplete. No doubt D7 will feel the same.

As a long-term fan of the franchise, I miss the old pixel art. Disgaea 2, 4, and 5. I played Disgaea 6, but I prefer the old ones.
The last disgaea game I played was 4, but 3 is still my favorite. This looks like the next best one in a good while!
They have gone back to a lv cap of 9999 for Disgaea 7.
Also item duping is back. And item world is changed, there's no longer 100 floors for a legendary item, now its only 30 floors.

@@hex1233 well we're gonna have an extra year before it comes to eng, hopefully they'll make sure it isn't rushed in that year unlike scarlet and violet. Plus pokemon is a billion dollar company and disgaea is pretty underknown.

Still waiting for Disgaea 2 & 3 complete + for announcement.
Think we should get a Complete+ for D2 first. The other games have a way to play them with all their content, but once the PS store shuts down for real, all of that game's DLC is lost to time, and that should never be allowed to happen.

Looks LEAGUES better than 6. I sure hope they dub it though. The English dubs for Disgaea games are always legendary.

Seems they learned some errors from 6, good to see more classes, including some old returning ones.
Also getting rid of that "every number is multiplied tenfold because beeg numbers"
And bringing weapon skills back because removing those never should have been on the table to begin with (and makes Disgaea feel awful in comparison to even Disgaea 2.)

Anywhere from 50 hours if used to efficient grinding and strategizing, to ~150 if taking a really casual pace.
Up to the individual, really. Can easily drag it out longer, if you want, for some reason.
@@Veristelle- I definitely don't want to prolong lol. So 150 is a decent level for end game? I'm usually tempted to Over level in rpgs but Disgea is too long for that lol
@@ShayneRawls Around 40-50 hours to complete the story at a casual pace, taking time to do other stuff like farming items along the way. I think my replay of D5 took me 20 hours to clear. Beating the post game story'll add another 50-100 hours, and beating the superboss will run you up to the 200-300 hour mark about. But that's just for bragging rights (and the joy of seeing your numbers grow)

Yes every item and dialog has to be processed and edited it's not easy have you ever edited a UA-cam video?
Now take that into a count then triple it
They compare the item names and dialog because 50% of the world can read a foreign language
Most of the time they have 5 languages and 3 voice overs so that takes time to back check to make sure every single word doesn't have any errors.

Huh, kinda figured they would go back to the spite based characters instead of keeping with the 3D models. Skipped Disgaea 6 since I didn’t care for the main cast in that one but this main cast looks more likable. Might give it a go.
