One of the things that was brought up in a Protestant church I used to attend was How much of original Christian Traditions are being lost or forgotten due to modernism? This is why I do have admiration of the Orthodox church.
Actually when they show "cultural Christians" as being hypocritical and judgmental, that's definitely true. I was just at a coffee shop, and I heard two young women, Christians, and they were gossiping a ton about other parishioner's. It's true that they're often hypocritical, judgmental, etc.
It is a partial truth, and for that reason, a terrible lie. Some are hypocritical and judgmental. It is a common trait in fallen humanity. It is not a Christian trait, but a fault we are warned against. Are the originators of the "show" not also hypocritical and judgmental in accusing *all* Christians, not just some, and not also pointing to themselves? It is a universal fault to want to find fault with others, and to point it out so that we can feel we are better than "those people". But the whole business is condemned as sinful. What's true is that non-Christians are sinful, and Christians are also sinful. It is those who say *only* Christians are sinful and those Christians who say they are not sinful that are in the worst condition. May God forgive us all, all of our sins, and grant us His grace to stop sinning in judgement of others, because this sin is just as deadly as murder.
I came from an occultic background, its always a diffraction or manipulation of the Holy. Every false religious ritual is a corruption of a symbolic theurgic action. Either by mind, heart or matter. It always brings you back to Christianity. It brought me to Orthodoxy It took me a long time to get here (im 26), and it scares me how little people understand church history(myself included). Having a sense of humor and the ability to mock harmful things has been very much a part of American for as long as I have been alive. I didn’t know it was actually an ancient Christian practice. I think it’s far better than trying to physically harm people you disagree with. There should be safe spaces for jokes, as there are now places were you literally can’t tell jokes anymore.
Agreed! Although, in the past There have been denominations that have been aggressive verbally and pushed people away. It’s best to just “walk the talk” and speak up about being stereotyped in media. Let’s make family values and peaceful solutions the new rebellion in our younger generation please 🙏🏻. Peace on Earth and God Bless you father for your wisdom. 💚🕊️☦️
Thank you, Father. I'm so glad you added this message to the other two. Sometimes a later message has the virtues of reflection upon earlier responses, and adds weight. Useful, for a mass of bigotry requires a weighty reply.
thank you for this Father. and what about bringing to light populations enduring hardships such as sick children, homelessness, cancer patients, abused children of mentally ill parents. These are clearly suffering ‘minorities’ but you don’t see full series on netflix about them? Because the spirit of the times would rather push perversion and lies, as this is a direct assault on our Creator! Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us.
On the Difference between Christian Love and the Justice of Men “People usually interpret justice in the juridical sense. We reject the laying of one man’s guilt on another - it is ‘not fair’. It does not accord with our idea of equity. But the spirit of Christian love speaks otherwise, seeing nothing strange but rather something natural in sharing in the guilt of those we love - even in assuming full responsibility for their wrong-doing. Indeed, it is only in this bearing of another’s guilt that the authenticity of love is made manifest and develops into full awareness of self. What sense is there in enjoying only the pleasurable side of love? Indeed, it is only in willingly taking upon oneself the loved one’s guilt and burdens that love attains its multifold perfection. Many of us cannot, or do not want to, accept and suffer of our own free will the consequences of Adam’s original sin. ‘Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, but what has that to do with me?’ we protest. ‘I am ready to answer for my own sins but certainly not for the sins of others.’ And we do not realize that in reacting thus we are repeating in ourselves the sin of our forefather Adam, making it our own personal sin, leading to our own personal fall. Adam denied responsibility, laying all the blame on Eve and on God Who had given him this wife; and by so doing he destroyed the unity of Man and his communion with God. So, each time we refuse to take on ourselves the blame for our common evil, for the actions of our neighbor, we are repeating the same sin and likewise shattering the unity of Man. The Lord questioned Adam before Eve, and we must suppose that if Adam, instead of justifying himself, had taken on the responsibility of their joint sin, the destinies of the world might have been different, just as they will alter now if we in our day assume the burden of the transgressions of our fellow man. We can all find ways of vindicating ourselves on all occasions but if we really examine our hearts we shall see that in justifying ourselves we are not guileless. Man justifies himself, firstly, because he does not want to acknowledge that he is even partially to blame for the evil in the world, and secondly, because he does not realize that he is endowed with godlike freedom. He sees himself as merely part of the world’s phenomenon, a thing of this world, and, as such, dependent on the world. There is a considerable element of bondage in this, and self-justification, therefore, is a slavish business unworthy of a son of God. I saw no tendency of self- justification in the Staretz. But it is strange how to many people this taking the blame for the wrong-doing of others, and asking for forgiveness, savours of subjection - so vast the distinction in outlook between the sons of the Spirit of Christ and non-spiritual people. The latter cannot believe it possible to feel all humanity as a single whole to be incorporated in the personal experience of every man, without exception. According to the second commandment, Love thy neighbor as thyself, each of us must, and can, comprise all mankind in our own personal being. Then all the evil that occurs in the world will be seen, not as something extraneous but as our own.” - Saint Silouan The Athonite (pages 120-122)
Saint Maximos the Confessor: “The one who loves Christ thoroughly imitates Him as much as he can. Thus Christ did not cease to do good to men. Treated ungratefully and blasphemed, He was patient; beaten and put to death by them, He endured, not thinking ill of anyone at all. These three are the works of love of neighbor in the absence of which a person who says he loves Christ or possesses His kingdom deceives himself.” [“The Fourth Century,” The Four Hundred Chapters on Love, 55.]
St. Mitrophan of Voronezh was a good friend with Peter the Great. When Peter invited St. Mitrophan to his residence, St. Mitrophan turned back and went home when he saw the statues of the pagan gods had there. Peter threatened St. Mitrophan with death if he didn't visit him, so St. Mitrophan started to prepare for his death. Seeing St. Mitrophan unmoved by his threats, Peter removed the statues, and their friendship was restored.
I'm not a convert yet, but in the last few years I've eschewed more and more popular media because of its agenda and utter lack of quality overall. Your points about the Marvel films are well taken, Father. I too have been a big nerd most of my life. But the older I get, the more it feels empty. Even the more thoughtfully crafted stuff like Batman the Animated series doesn't hit like it used to. And Marvel in particular has, in a short time frame, degenerated into woke corporate slop, and the tendrils of an utterly Satanic Hollywood have begun to creep in. It's no longer about heroism or sacrifice. It's about proving a leftist point, inverting the natural order, and a refusal to take anything seriously. People essentially worship these heroes and stories, and in only sixty years its already degenerated into complete trash. Even Star Wars, which was near and dear to my heart for most of my life, has been thoroughly corrupted and inverted. What good is it if it can't survive more than a couple generations without decay? I often feel like I'm a black sheep for leaving it behind, as popular media was a point of relation with many of my friends and family. But garbage is garbage. And as I grow closer to the Lord, I can see I've made the right choice. Just like you must be thoughtful about what you eat, you must also be thoughtful about what media you consume, and have high standards. I will not be treated like a pig at the trough who's expected to just eat anything that's being served. And if one day I should be blessed enough to have a family? I can't imagine subjecting children to the current pop culture. The woke stuff is finding intense resistance in the more nerdy spheres of media, and it is beginning to shape corporate decisions. Now imagine what such a groundswell movement could achieve if it leaned on the Lord and His church. Thank you for this reflection Father. God bless.
14:33 We are in the middle of a rabid war between good and evil. As Christians, our weapons are: *Prayers. *Repentance. *Communion. *Study: Be ready to give a reason for my hope. *Follow the money and stop supporting businesses that provide platform for evil. *Educate our children.
6:02 David from the show Evil is the closest I’ve seen not that that’s all that great of an example, but it really stuck out to me in comparison to the rest of culture
A very good recent film with a nice portrayal of a Christian is The Peanut Butter Falcon. He's sort of an eccentric, ascetic, blind old blackman. His character is great and portrayed as wise and he ends up baptizing the main protagonists.
Did you hear about the teacher when making their students learn about the pantheon of false Greek gods, they told their students to get up and see how it wouldve felt to worship the sun god.. 3 Christians in that class stood up and refused.. thank the LORD that there are still children who love Christ.
i agree that children's entertainment is in a dire state, but in the defense of the deadpool movie, that's exactly how the comic is too. there's no way to be accurate to the comic and still be kid friendly. i'm not a fan of the character myself, but still, it's a bit unfair to judge the movie for being a good adaptation.
@@Pomni740 that's not how the Bible narrative works: eternal truths are revealed in part in the old testament and distorted by the demons, but the faithful receive more clarity as time goes on, and then finally the fullness of Truth is revealed in Christ Himself. To be fed and made alive by eating and drinking from God's table is the eternal truth - the Eucharist is how we participate in this truth while we're still in the realm of time and space. The feasts and sacrifices of the first covenant were God-given imitations of the Eucharist for the purpose of spiritual education, and the pagan sacrifices were (and are) twisted mockeries of the Eucharist for the purpose of corrupting and destroying humans.
As the father mentions at the start of the video, participants in this performance confirmed and posted on social media the reference to The Last Supper, with the main individual displaying Leonardo DaVinci’s painting on her social media page. It was swiftly deleted once the controversy stirred and swept under the rug. But even if this had been the depiction of a pagan feast, the explicit nudity and agendas being pushed are an attack on Christianity and Christ themselves.
How can we as Christians respond to this correctly? I didn't pay much attention, I'm new to the faith but I did pray for their salvation and begin to despise blamphemy or vain talk of God that bit more, hearing St John Chrysostoms appropriate responses to things like this such as 'sanctifting our hand' with a punch or slap to the face to a blasphemer made to eager to look out for it when out and about but quickly realised the unrighteousnesses in it due to my pure intention to get down with someone.
Nothing dealing with values (and, therefore, morals) can be called anything but religious. Secular is just a throwaway term for less conspicuous modern idolatry.
Just came across an Orthodox Christian miracles video from 3 years ago about the prophecies of St. Kosmos of Aetolia from the 1700s in which he predicted that satan would enter our homes in a black box.. @@ColynWardI was just being brief.. as a matter of fact, he does seem to speak about the wwweb ,etc., in that video about his prophecy/prophecies. I mentioned where it could be found. But as a convert to the Orthodox Church, i am now more likely to give them consideration without the usual strong hesitancy of my earlier life.

@virginialopezrey6860 I can imagine. It made me question the integrity of the faith for a millisecond but no, one man's beliefs cannot undo the testimony and witnesses that are part of the church of its truth. I wonder what will happen. I'll ask some people in my parish if they've seen but maybe we could be viewing it incorrectly. Maybe it could be in a way something along the lines of "love those who persecute you" since it was a blessing but only speculation

Very good and interesting commentary; thank you. I like Fr. Paul's idea of keep the mouth quiet, prayerfully and thoughtfully considering things before reacting. Note that we cancelled our Netflix subscriptions long ago because of their nonstop assault on Christian values.
God bless you, Father
Amen father.
As a orthodox christian ☦️ convert from islam with My family and many family friends.
All Muslims will see the truth like we did.
Bless you ☦️☝️
Have a great day.
Yes. I agree with you father
Our Christianity IS counterculture now.
Amen 🙏
Little House on the Prairie was the last show that revered Christians
I very much enjoy Father Brown. The tv series from the 1970's was excellent (with Kenneth More), and the current production with Mark Williams was good, but his character stopped being believable after the first few seasons.
@@ColynWard i'll check it out!
Well said Father!
Thank you. Very insightful. Please keep making videos.
I'm much rather stand with God and have the world judge.. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord ☦️ 🙏
Agreed! Although, in the past There have been denominations that have been aggressive verbally
and pushed people away.
Proud to say my protastant family finslly agreed to get rid of Netflix
Amen Fr Paul
What a beautiful review!
thank you for this Father.
and what about bringing to light populations enduring hardships such as sick children, homelessness, cancer patients, abused children of mentally ill parents. These are clearly suffering ‘minorities’ but you don’t see full series on netflix about them?
Because the spirit of the times would rather push perversion and lies, as this is a direct assault on our Creator!
Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us.
On the Difference between Christian Love and the Justice of Men
“People usually interpret justice in the juridical sense.
All prophesied. Need to fight it nonetheless
Well said.
God bless.
i need to start buying the monastery coffee
wise words
Kyrie Eleison!
Christ is King
14:33 We are in the middle of a rabid war between good and evil. As Christians, our weapons are:
*Prayers.
*Repentance.
*Communion.
*Study: Be ready to give a reason for my hope.
*Follow the money and stop supporting businesses that provide platform for evil.
*Educate our children.
With love and prayer…. and mocking 😂😂😂
That new beetlejuice seems pretty degenerate. I refuse to watch it.
The original Beetlejuice struck me as degenerate too.
@@thekatarnalchemist i'm sure it was, haven't seen it in over a decade, but i cannot remember kids talking about sex in the original.
After convincing women to sacrifice about 70 million of their babies to him, Dionysis decided to use his slaves to gloat.
Did you hear about the teacher when making their students learn about the pantheon of false Greek gods, they told their students to get up and see how it wouldve felt to worship the sun god.. 3 Christians in that class stood up and refused.. thank the LORD that there are still children who love Christ.
I think from popular shows, Ned from simphsons seem to be portrayed as a pretty decent man actually, even though boring in some aspects
❤
i agree that children's entertainment is in a dire state, but in the defense of the deadpool movie, that's exactly how the comic is too. there's no way to be accurate to the comic and still be kid friendly. i'm not a fan of the character myself, but still, it's a bit unfair to judge the movie for being a good adaptation.
There is no such thing as secular. The is no neutral ground.
It wasn't even a parody of the last supper it was based on a painting called the feast of the gods.
Pagan feasts are still a mockery of the Eucharist, just distorted even further. That doesn't make it better, and might even make it worse.
@@AlaskaPilot18 But pagan feasts existed long before the eucharist.
La Cene Sur La Scene Sur La Seine is what the performance was called. ‘The Last Supper on a Stage on the Seine.’ is what it translates to
As the father mentions at the start of the video, participants in this performance confirmed and posted on social media the reference to The Last Supper, with the main individual displaying Leonardo DaVinci’s painting on her social media page. It was swiftly deleted once the controversy stirred and swept under the rug. But even if this had been the depiction of a pagan feast, the explicit nudity and agendas being pushed are an attack on Christianity and Christ themselves.
It’s time Christians were strong again.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU GOD YOU LET SOMEONE ELSE SEE IT
☦❤
Nothing dealing with values (and, therefore, morals) can be called anything but religious. Secular is just a throwaway term for less conspicuous modern idolatry.
It takes Constantine I to bring Christianity back.
Also The Good Lord Bird is a great, funny, action packed miniseries that shows how the abolitionist movement was led by Christians.

17:22 @Andrewkfunk has entered the chat.....
Just came across an Orthodox Christian miracles video from 3 years ago about the prophecies of St. Kosmos of Aetolia from the 1700s in which he predicted that satan would enter our homes in a black box.. I look back on almost nothing that i needed to watch in all the years we had tvs... i know that some things had some value. But i see so much time wasted
Your laptop isn't a black box as well? Or your phone?
@@ColynWardI was just being brief.. as a matter of fact, he does seem to speak about the wwweb ,etc., in that video about his prophecy/prophecies. I mentioned where it could be found. Seems he lived in the mid-1700s, which i didn't know..
Actually, there are those who suggest that we never pick up these phones, etc , without uttering a short prayer before we use them..
I understand any wariness to easily accept prophecies. I very much understand. But as a convert to the Orthodox Church, i am now more likely to give them consideration without the usual strong hesitancy of my earlier life.
Jesus was humiliated in the worst possible way when he was crucified for our sins. God has already been mocked far beyond what these people are capable of imagining. God is beyond mockery.
God killed Aaron’s sons for improper worship. What does his plan for crucifixion have to do with how people are treating him now?
The next logical question is who is behind all this hateful messaging?
don't be anti-semitic
we have the Juice to blame for all of this
Cordreanu said a nation gets the juice it deserves
James Lindsay has been doing a fine job educating on wokism
Father Truebenbach, you speak about not participating with Netflix because they are pro-abortion. I wanted to cry when I saw AB Elpidophiros blessing the DNC because they are so pro-abortions. Please pray for me because I feel heartbroken.
There's an AB praising pro abortion?
I just searched it up. Dude what????? What would happen in this scenario will that lead to him being excommunicated or what? I'm fairly new to the orthodox community
@rayroh I don't know. All I know is that it made me want to cry. I've been Orthodox for 10 years and I can't imagine ever leaving the Orthodox faith.
@@rayroh thank you. Why get involved in politics at all?
I came to Christ because of conspiracies and realizing satan is real took me like 13years but I got it haha.
