    I just purchased the DD Frontline XL along with the 3X3 tarp. Like you said TONS of room in this hammock for us "bigger" guys. Great vid cant wait until you post a vid using it out in the woods or where ever. Thanks Paul

    Very good demo of this hammock. I am pretty much sold. The mods to the suspension are brilliant....and the tip about the zips.....

    Thank you so much for taking the time to show how to modify the suspension system! Other videos exist that speak about the modification and show the end result, but I have not encountered one that actually demonstrates how it’s done. Excellent!!

    I'm thinking about using it in the peaks. I usually stay in the local woods but if I can't find trees which is deffo possible lol - I can go to ground.

    If ever it rains in with a 3*3 tarp you can use the rain cover of a backpack to put it over the pole and then towards the suspension where the wind comes from
    FB Kayak Cobber
    Use it on many expeditions as I do long distance Walking projects months in a row.
    And as I don't like whoops I use dyneemalune and made rope ladder knots with it.

    Brilliant video you were so happy, and in the strength of your review I bought 2 MC XL’s and 2 sausage bags for them for myself and my son. Thank you for your time and expertise here

    Thanks for sharing this video, you're the only person I've seen try a diagonal lay in the frontline XL.
    I am 5'10" and 82kg but I suffer from bad ankles due to the edge of the Hennessy and DD Frontline (normal) and the Snugpak Jungle bending my foot at an awkward angle.
    I am looking at the XL to hang it loose, putting a structural ridgeline in it to keep the correct sag that I want to try and eliminate this problem.
    I MAY then modify the bug net making it more like the Hennessy.
    Again thanks for sharing.
    ATB Mark.

    Thank You for sharing this Paul. I hope you be having this exact model as a birthday present. I am not just getting it as a hammock, I am also going to use it ground dwelling as a tent. Very poor of DD to leave them go without doing a quality control product check, especially with the hanging thread. I would expect more from DD. ATB Reeco

    Do what I did with the straps. Pull the strap through at one end until you have about 18 inches on the short end. Then hold the long end and grab the short tail and wrap it over 3 times over the long tail, feed the short end through the loop and pull tight. Now you have really long straps and the bit that's dangling from the short end is a perfect drip tail. Works for me perfect.

    Okay I see and I thought when I bought the DD XL Frontline hammock that it was good for the or at least a better fit for the 4 by 4. But I guess either one would do correct? I'm just tossed between which one I should get

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  7 років тому +1

      They will both cover it. It's your choice really. The 4x4 will make lots of configurations for building shelters like tents as it's square.

      DD has a new 3,5 x 3,5 tarp which I just bought, to get a bigger tarp for my XL while still having a square. Haven’t tried it out yet as it arrives tomorrow. Will let you know.

    Paul, what make/brand are your tree huggers and whoopie slings please, I am 6ft5 and around 20st so deffo need to upgrade..
    Seen your reply above about the standard underblanket, do you know of an XL underblanket that would fit.
    Not ordered my DD XL yet just trying to make sure I have all the right bits in my baskets for payday 😁

      Whoopie slings are ok from DD hammocks. I now use the multi loop tree hugger straps. Makes things really easy.

    great video...I have never even considered a hammock because like you I'm a big guy and I didn't think they had hammocks for big guys....now I'm thinking maybe .....lol.....knowing my luck they likely are not available in Canada.

    Nice vid mate, I use my xl frontline more than any other hammock I own, like you say it really is the Rolls Royce of hammocks... Far far better than the standard frontline especially as you don't have to tie up the bug net.

    Great video and thank you for sharing! Do you have any calf ridge issue with this hammock?

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  6 років тому +1

      This hammock is quite long, so it has a better lay than the shorter ones and is much more comfy. The diagonal lay has no problems at all. I think it depends on how you hang it whether you feel any discomfort. This is by far the most comfortable hammock i have used.

    Another great video Paul. I'm actually looking for a hammock and after watching your video and a couple other videos, I think I've 100% decided on the DD Frontline XL. As I'm about 16 stones so I think it'll fit me pretty well. I'm also looking to get a tarp and I noticed you mentioned that DD large tarp, I took a look on Amazon and boy is it expensive. But I guess you get what you pay for it right? Thanks again buddy can't wait for the next video

      Yes you do get what you pay for, i have had a lot of gear but DD is the best. You can order from DD direct they will ship to the States. They are based in Scotland. www.ddhammocks.com/products

    Okay I see, I'll probably go with the 4 by 4 as it most likely will work pretty good with the Frontline XL multicam that I got. But the other one, the 4 by 5 by 3 is the one that you would, in your opinion recommend or would they both do the job? I'm ordering today so if you could get back to me as I'll probably go with the four by four just because it's only $7 more US. And I'm pretty sure it'll cover the Frontline XL hammock pretty well and it's a little bit bigger I guess per square footage than the other one. Let me know buddy keep up the good work look forward to your new videos I must have missed them one this Sunday for the Woodland kitchen video I didn't see it posted

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft

      The tree huggers are BTSKY on Amazon. The whoopie slings are from DD Hammocks. The net doe's not come off.

    Awesome first impressions vid mate, iv just upgraded my frontline to the xl frontline, just wondering if you use a underblanket with it, as it looks far to big for the dd one atb mate 👍🏻 Mike 👍🏻

      Sorry to take so long to reply Mike, I use the dd underblanket and it works fine. You loose all the gather and it cocoons you a bit, but it works.

    Hey Paul question for you I'm in the market to purchase a DD XL tarp and I'm not sure which one would fit me the best and I had a question for you because I think you have both of them. I'm looking to either get the multicam 4 by 4 or the multicam that's 4.3 by 3. At least I think that is it a two Dimensions which one do you think would suit me better in your opinion and overall

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  7 років тому

      If you bought the XL Hammock i would get the XL Tarp 4.5m x 3m It was made for the XL Hammock.

    Heck Paul I knew the DD Frontline XL but it looks a beast in your video and makes my standard Frontline look tiny lol. Not great the dangling thread ends but I am sure DD would replace if returned? I have changed over to whoopie slings and didn't mind the standard hammock tapes supplied with my Frontline although like you say they are a little short for larger spans. I use the tapes now as tree huggers for my whoopies. Great whoopie sling drip line and hammock zip tips. I think you liked the hammock lol. A great review Paul :)

    great video Paul , quick question? mine`s on order and i`m going to make a couple of whoopies for it , are your whoopies a standard length or a bit longer?? , also how long is potentially too long? thanks

  • @travisbickle5584
    @travisbickle5584 5 років тому

    Has it held up well? I'm thinking about getting one, I'm 6ft 3 so I'm thinking this would be the best bet for a flat lay.

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  5 років тому +1

      It's still going strong, i would change the straps for whoopie slings if you decide to get one. Makes it much more versatile. 6'3 is no problem in this hammock :)

    Hi Paul I've had the dd front line for a while now but thinking of changing to tree huggers and Whoopie slings , is there a preffered website that you'd recommend to purchase these 👌👍

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  6 років тому +1

      The cheapest place for the whoopie slings is DD Hammocks. I bought my tree huggers from Amazon they are called BTSky tree straps. You could get lighter weight ones if you arn't very heavy. The best thing about whoopies is the adjustment!

    No offense. but do you weigh more than the max weight for this? i'm curious how much weight this can actually hold. it's rated for 125kg. but maybe it can hold up to more.

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  5 років тому

      Yes i weighed 145 Kg when i got it and it is fine. I did change the straps for whoopie slings and tree huggers. The original straps would have been fine but they stretch a little.

    • @JasperJanssen
      @JasperJanssen 4 роки тому

      Paul Bisseker Bushcraft I weigh a bunch more than you do, and even in cheap Chinese hammocks, single skin, not even ripstop, I’ve never felt like they were stressed beyond their capacity. Suspension, definitely iffy (the standard sort of cheap 1 inch webbing with sewn loops treestraps going through a loop on their own end? Melt together from the pressure and friction...), the fabric, enh whatever.
      For suspension I use continuous loops, plus whoopies I made from 3mm UHMWPE (ie, dyneema, but without the branding) and for around the tree I use 1” climbing sling webbing rated at 18 kN (2 tonnes, ish) with one home sewn loop and a soft shackle on the tree side, and becket hitch to the whoopie.
