I think a 2 door short bed Hellcat variant should be made in limited numbers to be a halo model like the Ford Lightning or GMC Syclone or Ram SRT-10. Imagine how cool that would be.
Just bought mine yesterday from Langley Chrysler. Super excited to pick it up this week! Great review! It would of been nice as a family nan myself if you would of talked about the rear seat
I also bought a Gladiator Rubicon in Firecracker Red but with the painted fenders. I also have the black Freedom Tops as I thought they looked better than the painted tops and gave the Gladiator a more rugged look. I LOVE the truck so far! It is meeting all of my expectations. I had to alter the way I carry some items in the bed (kayak, 12'6" long paddleboards). Compared to my full size Chevy Z71, I now have to tie down/secure the longer items differently so they don't fall out, but I expected to do that knowing the bed is only 5' long. The truck drives great, has plenty of power with the 33" tires, has great storage under and behind the rear seat, looks awesome, has a great stereo and navigation screen, etc. I wish there were some more open storage bins around the center console/dashboard. If you have two drinks in the cup holders, it leaves you searching for a place to place your phone, small items, french fries (lol), etc. The small trays up by the windshield are ok but the sun will bake anything you place there. I'm not fond of the door nets as I've seen them look stretched out and ugly in the past and would rather see molded storage areas built into the doors in lieu of the netting. It takes a little time to get used to less interior space after driving a full size pickup truck but the Gladiator feels more nimble, sportier to drive and more fun than a full sized tank!
Wow, thanks for the owners review. Do you find a lot of people commenting on it? When I had it, lots of people would stop me to comment on how cool it is?
The Gladiator bridges a lot of gaps for people. Legendary Jeep name, legendary Wrangler platform, and in a pickup truck form. How many people want a Wrangler and a pickup, but can't afford or justify both? They've got it with this. Plus, I think Jeep may be putting the EcoDiesel in this Gladiator. Midsize, JEEP Wrangler with a pickup truck bed, and a diesel. I can already see the sales figures going way up.
@@kinsmen1764 No I'm not jealous, I've owned a Rubicon and loved it but I'm being realistic. Fiat Chrysler has terrible build quality. Great off road performer but I've had rust issues, electrical and leaking roof problems that you shouldn't have for a five year old vehicle. Jeeps are a lot of fun but dont think for a minute that they are reliable.
Best review I've watched for Gladiator RUBICON 4X4 Crew Cab. I am a current 2019 JLUR owner, and test drove a 2020 Gladiator RUBICON over the weekend and was very surprised how much improved the on-road manners were. The longer wheelbase equates to better ride quality. My dealer is looking for one now with the options that I want, but I will be trading into a Gladiator within the next few weeks.
In terms of midsize trucks, there's nothing like the Gladiator. Even with the Ranger Raptor or ZR2 Colorado or Tacoma TRD Sport, they are at the end of the day, regular trucks. The Gladiator is a Jeep with Jeep DNA and Jeep engineers who really live and love the Jeep life. You can tell with the attention to detail to every little thing in the Jeep that makes it mission ready for tackling the trails and on top of it, it tows well and has the bets payload rating in class. The only downside is the higher price of admission even in the base models, but hey, just think of it as a price premium for having a convertible truck versus a closed truck like a convertible versus the coupe equivalent.
Lol Both my grandmothers, under 100lbs 5' tall drove early 60's CJ5s. No power steering no power brakes, well into their 70's.... Every day of my life...
People just need to be real about on-road driving characteristics of Wrangler or Gladiator. It may be better compared to prior generations, but on highway steering still wonders like a drunken sailor and you have to constantly course correct. Long as your expectations are real, you will enjoy this vehicle, otherwise you sell shortly after buying.
I think the trade off is worth it and like you said, you have to understand you’re driving. a Jeep. For most I think you’d get used to it. The Mercedes G wagon did the same until the latest model and that didn’t stop anyone from buying it.
I have driven all models of Jeeps and they get better every model, owning my forth different model I know what you are talking about but my gladiator is very different and much better on the road then my wranglers. Although is does wonder a little I love the ride.
Oh yaaaa, we take our JL offroad! We have a 2018 JLU RUBICON with the 4cyl turbo. I am waiting for the EcoDiesel to be in the Gladiator then my wife and I both will be Jeep drivers.
We bought a Gladiator Rubicon also. This is our 3rd Jeep. We definitely take it offload as much as possible. That's what great about a Jeep. You can use it for what it is designed for. Try using a Porsche or other high performance car for its designed purpose and you'll end up with an impounded vehicle and thousands$$ in fines.
I agree with the steering "dead spot" analysis. My Nissan pickup has very tight, responsive steering, the Gladiator took a little getting accustomed to.
Iv never been a fan the wrangler or the color red on a vehicle, but when they made the gladiator and Rubicon and paint it in red I absolutely love it!! Our local dealer has one on the lot and it's even better in person. Only problem is wow are they expensive.... maybe give them a few years?
Two years now since your post and I can tell you pricing on Jeeps is going nowhere but up. ALL "performance" trucks are getting expensive, regardless of brand. Get one now as they won't be getting cheaper. -- BR (2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon)
Good review!,👍👍👍Really practical information here👍👍👍 haven’t had a Jeep Jeep CJ in a long long time. Not really a Jeep guy either, Grand Cherokee guy, yes. But I want to try one of these. Like the Gladiator.👍👍
Wrong. Very wrong. The Overland only tows 6,000lbs. A Sport with Max Tow will tow 7,650lbs and a Rubicon will tow 7,000lbs. Actually, the only reason a Sport with Max Tow is able to tow more than the Rubicon is because the Rubicon is weighed down by all of the extra options so the actual vehicle weight is more while the engine/axles/gears are all identical
I’m more the F150 comfort first guy, but gotta say I love the Gladiator, it’s beautiful in a Jeep way, if I were younger and was a off roader I’d like to think this would be my ride!
I really like the Gladiator..i was very anxious for it to FINALLY arrive after what felt like 2 years of hype.. I had a 2013 Wrangle JL before my current truck a RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab .. So the Gladiator seems like the PERFECT mix... I just have a really hard time swallowing that a new Gladiator Rubicon is even money with a new RAM 1500 Laramie Crew cab... I know, I know resale value etc.. I am usually the guy making those arguments when people say JEEP are SO overpriced... I guess I need to convince myself on 2 points #1 the "resale" argument doesn't really help me because I keep my trucks 8-10 years.. and #2 will the capable and cool factor outweigh the fact that it is no where near as "nice" and comfortable or family friendly as the RAM..... Ohhh and I drive about 25,000 miles / year 95% on road so there is that too . . .
I bought a 2019 wrangler unlimited rubicon and i offroad it always ive put a 3.5 inch lift kit and larger tires and other mod. jeeps are meant to offroad anything less is just a waste
If they make a hybrid Im getting it. I wrote Jeep and asked them to, and they said maybe in the future. A hybrid will lower the towing capability though. But a lot of people aren't towing, they just the bed...
Not necessarily in stock form. The ZR2 has a lot on four door wrangler rubicon such as a better breakover despite smaller tires and longer wheelbase. The ZR2 has way better breakover than the gladiator. The gladiator is a lot easier to modify and get bigger tires under it, also the rubicon has the sway bay disconnect. I’d personally take the ZR2 over the gladiator but ideally my next rig will be a two door Rubicon, my current truck has no bed anymore and I just leave the sway bar off for convenience, definitely has no utility besides being able to towe.
Just do what I did. Negotiate price. Pretend to do in-house financing to get exact $ amount, discounts, etc to get lowest price. Then pay with Cashiers Check when picking up vehicle.

Richard Doucet sane can be said about jeeps in many states because they keep restricting where we can off-road :(
I found it really fun for the same reason. It’s at the other end of the spectrum, having fun going slow.

The Rubicon should come from factory on 37s & a 2" lift. Because you're not doing the Rubicon without it at the minimum.
