Tim's Favorite $5,000 Watches - The Best Luxury Watches From Longines, Tudor, Oris and More

- $5,000 watches represent a sweet spot in the market. It's enough money to get a watch with a quality brand name, differentiated features, design, and even meaningful movement specifications. But $5,000 is also a price point where middle class, blue collar, and even wealthy watch collectors who seek value can find acceptable options without breaking a budget. Tonight's show features watches from Tudor, Longines, Oris, and more at or below the $5,000 price point; these are the best $5,000 watches in 2024.
The Tudor Black Bay 58 is a growing family of vintage inspired dive watches that take liberties with the details. Tudor's Black Bay Fifty Eight Ag925 M79010SG offers watch buyers a rare opportunity to own a modern wristwatch in sterling silver. Common in the pocket watch era but scarce in the wristwatch era, sterling silver is an accessible precious metal that yields pleasing patina with time. Tudor combined the sterling with a dial and bezel of taupe color; the result is a unique offering among luxury dive watches. With a retail price of $4,650, the Black Bay Fifty Eight Ag925 offers precious metal cachet for stainless steel money.
The Black Bay Fifty Eight Bronze M79012M debuted in 2021; it was and remains a Tudor boutique exclusive offering. At 39mm in bronze, this Black Bay is far more manageable to wear than the massive 43mm Black Bay Bronze that preceded it. With a Tudor automatic caliber MT5400, the Black Bay Fifty Eight Bronze retains key features of the full size original including a COSC chronometer certification, antimagnetic silicon hairspring, robust shock resistance, and 70 hours of power reserve. A rivet-style bronze bracelet accompanies the Black Bay 58 Bronze, and a fabric strap is included for the retail price of $4,875.
Longines is one of the world's largest and most influential watch brands. However, it often flies below the radar in a Swatch group dominated by Omega at the high end and Tissot at the entry level. The 2024 Longines Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve is a breakout product for the middle brand of Swatch's empire. The 38mm Longines Central Power Reserve recalls a similar model from 1959. With a power reserve indicator comprised of two discs on the dial, the Central Power Reserve adds dynamism to the traditionally staid power reserve indicator complication. 2024 is the 70th anniversary of the Longines Conquest line, and the Central Power Reserve includes substantial vintage cues including the power reserve, date at twelve o'clock, tapered lugs with 19mm spacing, and a "glass box" sapphire crystal designed to evoke a vintage plexiglas. The core reference appears to be the silver dial L1.648.4.78.2, but the black dial with rose gold indices (L1.648.4.62.2 ) and black dial with silver indices (L1.648.4.62.2 ) are offered for the same $3,800 retail price.
Oris often receives recognition for its high-value sports watches, but the 2024 Propilot X Calibre 400 Laser (01 400 7778 7150-07 7 20 01TLC) deserves special mention. The 39mm titanium integrated bracelet watch incorporates a new laser-ablated dial that produces a kaleidoscope of colors without PVD, lacquer, paint, or dyes of any kind. The unique laser dial treatment also produces a strong vertical metallic grain that imbues the dial with tension and texture. Oris' well regarding Calibre 400 automatic movement provides 5-days of power reserve, 10-year service intervals, and the basis for Oris' ten year warranty on this model. With a retail price of $5,200 US, the Oris Propilot X Calibre 400 Laser is a fine alternative to AP, Patek, Vacheron, and Lange at a price that would barely buy a deployant clasp from these brands.

“Stop pretending Louis Brequet is alive…” this had me in rofl 🤣
It came straight from the heart. Breguet needs to focus on the extraordinary people currently making its stuff, sign them to long-term exclusive deals, and make them stars. Sadly, no other major group-owned brand is making this kind of investment in its people, because "the brand" is always king.
Best,
Tim
@@the1916company totally agreed..... those watch markers created the magic but sadly always behide the curtain...
Longines is killing it lately with their designs. Its impressive
There's great value here. Price is more reasonable than Omega, and Longine's perceived quality feels closer to Omega above than Tissot below. At the Tissot level, you start to see and feel compromises to meet a price. With Longines, it still feels like real luxury.
Best,
Tim
Silver Tudor BB58 with with a rose engraved case back and silver five link bracelet… would be an immediate purchase from me.
I vote for this. Maybe add a gloss red lacquer fill for the rose engraving.
Best,
Tim
While we’re at it, add some red accents to the dial too - maybe a red shield logo or a red second hand. Don’t overdo it and it’ll be a nice pop
Wow..the Fortis and the Baume Mercier really blew my mind lol
I totally agree, why buy a Rolex when there are these outstanding watches around. Oh and the Grand Seiko..sweet!
Both of those hit me hard when I saw them. The Fortis, I've seen in person, and it's as good as the photos. I'm eager to see the Baume. And I can't imagine having more fun than one of these could provide just because another watch costs 2X and has a famous name on the dial...
Best,
Tim
Thanks Tim & team!
I agree so much on Oris! whenever I hear watchmaking is so detached high luxury with too conservative of approaches and no value for money these days, I think of Oris, independent, in house movement, innovative in designs from cases to bracelets...what else you want:)
Great Design Tim!!!
very nice Tim, not many people can designs someones watch and still keep the essence of the style.
Appreciate your candor Tim!
I do my best. When necessary, read between the lines. I've been known to damn by faint praise on occasion.
Best,
Tim
If the Oris laser had applied indicies, id consider purchasing. They just seem to blend in and not stand out.
29:15 - Tim channeling some Jean-Claude Biver for this answer and I am *all* here for it!
Who knows, maybe I've got a second career ahead as a fix-it specialist for troubled watch businesses. It worked for JCB!
Best,
Tim
Great show as usual from Tim and the crew. I really liked the Tudor Silver Black Bay and the Fortis Chronograph for my top 2 choices for a 5k watch. I think going with SB is the perfect way to enter the independent watchmaking scene.
I love the watch I created with Armand. It's a blast to see something we envisioned as a concept make it to the metal stage, and I'm thrilled to get mine soon. Armand is an artisan who's really going places. Also, the recent stuff from Dan Royter is shockingly good. He's working at a level on hand, dial, and movement finishing that's worthy of Laurent Ferrier. It's incredible to see these creators develop their careers. I wish I were one of them.
Best,
Tim
Thanks Tim
Great list but very surprised not to see Breitling on it. The Superocean Heritage II 42mm in black or green is my top pick at this price point. I would also give the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m Summer Blue an honourable mention.
That oris is perfect for the asking price
Awesome show!!!!! Love the comment tim made on what changes he will make if he is in-charge of Breguet for a day.
When I start to see watch brands commonly quoting lug-to-lug measurements in recent press releases, I wonder whether somebody might actually be watching my videos. Hey, Breguet, you never know right?
Best,
Tim
The Oris is sharp.
Damn that Fortis is special.
I LOVE that Fortis. The "Cosmic Gray" dial is killer with the full block bracelet.
Best,
Tim
Thanx Tim and Crew. Interesting collaboration. Richard Mille? 😂😂😂🥃🥃🥃
You designed an amazing watch :) :)
Loved this episode!! Sub 5k offers so many quality timepieces.
You guys always bring models to my attention that I never knew existed with these kinds of episodes.
Very refreshing to see watch content highlighting more obscure yet attainable watches.
To drop a 40+ minute video and scarcely reference AP's Royal Oak or Rolex's Submariner is leaving the hype train at the station and taking the long way around these days.
It doesn't go unnoticed guys.
More sub 5k content like this please.
Awesome stuff! 👌🏼🙏🏻
I do my best to highlight great watches! I'd be proud to own any of the models featured here. As for Rolex and AP, well, there's plenty of other channels for that. I prefer to take the tougher path these days and talk about my passions.
Best,
Tim
@WatchBoxReviews You're preaching to the choir now sir.
Congrats on the Sartory Billard collab. Stunning dails - sure to be a triumph no doubt.
And also thanks to you, I now have one of those Fortis chronos urging me to part with my money.
So thank you for that.
The design seems somewhat iconically vintage yet excitingly fresh and innovative.
It's a winner in the vein of modern chronographs.
Once again, top notch content Tim.
Big fan of the channel. 🙂🤝🏼
This was a great show. A lot of interesting watches were shown that offer plenty off the beaten path.
Tim, about Grand Seiko, do you think they will ever offer better micro-adjustment for their heritage line? Their dials and cases deserve a clasp that can keep up with their pace.
I do. Rolex, Breitling, Omega have all raised their game in this class over the last 20 years. Even Tudor has T-Fit since at least 2021. Grand Seiko likely will have to improve its Heritage clasps and its titanium bracelets (pin sleeves) in the near future. The #1 complaint I hear from people who fault the "solidity" of GS vs Omega or Rolex relates to bracelets and clasps. That kind of in-the-hand impression seals or sinks sales.
Best,
Tim
Those Oris pro pilots are great - but need more than those hard to see printed indices ☹️. Breguet - lol, spot on! I tried a traditionale and those terribly designed lugs overhung crazy with a 40mm watch 🤪
Some dial variants are easier to read than others. As for Breguet, who knows. Like I said, Swatch Group should pay Marc Newson whatever he wants to redesign the whole Breguet line.. I think my Sartory Billard is better looking and more contemporary than most of Breguet's 3-hand watches.
Best,
Tim
Any views on the sgb231 as a contender for 5k and under Tim ?
great show as always
It was good to be back. Now a UN CEO interview before ending the week and starting the weekend with our Journe event in Miami!
Best,
Tim
*Putting in hard work and dedication pays off, and it shows!! have a great trip! and can't wait for the interview*@@the1916companywatchreviews
Show me a link to Tim Mosso branded merch and I’ll show you my money! Thank you for another great show Tim.
Coming soon! I'm not a watchmaker, but I do know how to draw, and I've been sketching.
Best,
Tim
Re like greeen and electric blue, I’m sure omega has a X33 in that colorway. I think it might be called the skywalker
Yes it does. It's the X-33 Skywalker Solar Impulse, and it's awesome.
Best,
Tim
Omega Speedmaster 38 for me!:)
Good choice!

What do you think of Reservoir? I really like some of their retrograde speedometer style dials, and they are just under $5000 but don’t know much about the company other than they are labeled Swiss made
I love them, and I've featured the Longbridge so many times on this channel that I felt a need to leave Reservoir out of a "value" show for a change. The Longbridge British Racing is one of my favorite affordable watches.
Best,
Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews ok I’ll have to look those up. Glad they get your thumbs up. Great show tonight
I was expecting to see the FC Worldtimer on this list. Feels like a miss. Got introduced to some new bangers in the process though.
There's a lot of watches that could have been on the list. It's a big world. I try to feature watches that fit the theme but also interest me personally, so it's a mix of the two.
Best,
Tim
That Fortis is the winner
You are 100% correct! Plus Tim can talk about he really feels about Rolex designs as appropriate since the WatchBox doesn't carry Rolex in its inventory.
I don’t understand why there is no mention of Rolex anymore on this channel. Does it have to do with the CPO program and the fact that Watchbox only sells second hand watches? Does anyone have insight on this issue?
Can you not find every other watch youtube channel for Rolex content?
We absolutely have new Rolex through Govberg and factory-backed CPO Rolex through 1916. For various reasons, I can't address the brand on this channel. On the other hand, how many UA-cam watch channels can keep powering forward without being able to publish about Rolex? I feel like I'm still hanging on view-wise and delivering decent quality content despite a pretty huge handicap.
Best,
Tim
@silverhand1733 yep, just "shitters" like that Roger Dubuis this morning. Right?
@@davidr2802 I'm sure he has no idea and didn't follow the other channel...
Best,
Tim
Sartory may very well be my next watch.
Highly recommended, even if it's not my design. Armand is a great guy, sincere, and heartfelt in all he does. The watches are excellent.
Best,
Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews The group watch was a one time run right?
Tim I think you're spoiled with insane watch movements. I still love to see a movement even if it's bottom of the barrel
The Oris movement at the same price is perfectly attractive. Tudor just designed an ugly machine.
Best,
Tim
Even 1,000 is a lot of money. It is 1 month's rent!!!!
He said Patel Philippe 😂
The fortis watch looked good, but not as good as Tim was making out it out to be. Seemed like an undisclosed ad.
GS beats RLX in every facet accept: 1. Clasp, 2. Lug Pins 3. Visage of some comparable models... Looks are arguable, but the first 2 happen to also be 2 very important considerations for purchase, by a great many. For me: if GS would simply MATCH RLX on the first two issues, RLX wouldn't even be on my map for another sports watch.
Longines? Umm, no.
Nice marketing, however.
Oris has come a long way on the last 25 year, however.
Make's me wish I still bothered with Facebook.
