I can recommend the audiobook version of 'Asunder' - it's not super long (14hrs), gives details on the lead-up to the mage rebellion, introduces Cole a little better, and has some familiar friends.
If you want to truly understand the hidden motives and emotions of some people and creatures you should have cole along with you. He has some of the funniest interactions and can even read the minds of dragons. Sort of interesting to hear what even the dragons are thinking right before you pick a fight with them.
I was disappointed with Cole. I was initially intrigued with his premise of being a weird little spirit kid, but most of his comments are just cryptic nonsense and sometimes what feels like random slam poetry that has nothing to do with anything.
@@BradTheAmerican It is always related to the situation, except from some banter with Solas, which are easter eggs about movies. The point is that yes, it is usually cryptic, because he speaks of things that are hidden to the eye. That is why his dialogue is so interesting to me, it's like little mysteries that you can unravel only when delving deeper, trying to understand or acquiring new knowledge. I think he is beautifully written. He shows many depths to the world and to our companions, predates secret lore that is yet to be officially revealed - like in Tresspaser, where the couple of his cryptic lines probably reveal that Solas was originally a spirit of Wisdom, and has been called and bound to a body by someone, Mythal most likely - and later removing her vallaslin left a scar on his forehead. It's like looking at the world with the new eyes, new perspective, I adore it, though I can see how the indirect dialogue can be tiring to some people.
Sad you broke up with Blackwall but excited who you're gonna end up pursuing. I've only played through twice (Cassandra with my Lavellan, Blackwall with my Adaar), so I'm excited to see another romance play out!
I’ve enjoyed this playthrough more than any other I’ve seen on your channel. Absolutely stellar. Would love to hear your thoughts on the state of Thedas/theories/etc when you beat this & its DLCs. But I’m getting ahead of myself 😆
You're right. It wouldn't have changed anything. Hawke woulda been dead too. It was sad, because Cass knew it wasn't about what she asked Varric, but what she followed up on herself.
Something you *have* to try at some point is jumping off the highest part of Skyhold It is so much fun And when you're out in the world, if you cast barrier on yourself, it soaks up all the fall damage So cool Despite my better judgement, I am a little sad that you won't be romancing the egghead His romance isn't the happiest, sexiest, or most fun, but I still argue it is the best written romance in the game It's the only one where I feel like an aspect of the story is missing when not taken (I feel alright saying this because I'm sure by now you've already selected Cullen or The Iron Bull, and so this comment shouldn't have any pressure attached) And to be fair to Blackwall's seeming indifference, your romance was more like light flirting It'd be a bit weird if he got emotional about breaking up when you weren't *really* a thing yet
Vivienne is so mean to Cole 🥺 although honestly understandable if you know her backstory fully. Without that knowledge of her background it’s very hard to just hear her be mean… as much as I love her 😅
The crushing part of this series is that no matter what we picked; we do not make the right choice. It is literally a bad pick every time. You pick mages, you increase the number of Abominations and how easy it is to spy on the Inq. Pick Templars and you side against those who choose freedom; it makes you less likely to stop security in favor of freedom, and you are seen as a shill for the Templars. There is no right choice, and each major choice you make kills people. The only decision is whether or not you'll be emotionally affected by your decisions.
The ethical choice, as per all my ethics classes at uni, is fundamentally "what option am I most able to live with, that is the ethical choice". I like how the game forces us to recognise that truth in life. Decisions are hard, commitment is hard, and the ethical choice is always what we are most able to live with
Actually, if Alistair is still a warden and Fiona is alive, she will asks for "that warden called Alistair". Only available if Fiona is alive in both cases.
@@19cp1 Yeah, that commentary is released once you return to sky hold after the meeting with Alistair and Hawke. Then, go talk to Fiona and she will ask about " that warden Alistair" the inquisitor then can ask her if she wants to introduce her to him but she refuses telling you that is fine.
12:14 - really Meg? The prison guard that helped make life a living hell to Mages in Kirkwall for ten years and wanted to kill every mage in the circle tower?
The "purge the circle" statement was a moment of weakness You try being tortured by demons and blood mages for a whole day and see if you're still fair and empathetic toward mages Besides, it's a moment that he clearly looks back on with regret. He's grown and matured with time, and all his past mistakes turned him into the professional and caring battlefield commander we see today. Redemption is a thing
@@AlwaysSomeone Oh you mean like the Harrowing? The thing mages are exposed to under penalty of death or tranquility? And he wasn't the only person that was hurt there. Many mages died that day, incluiding possibly children. And templars instead of protecting the people they were supposed to protect, left them to fend for themselves. And no he didn't! Huuuuuun. Why there isn't romantic option with Solas? 🤔
I believe it was because Inquisitor was soft-locked into romance with Blackwall.
