David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models) joins us this week to share how he’s paved his unique path in comedy for decades without sacrificing his style for commercial recognition. David takes us back to his early days at NYU bumping shoulders with guys like Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio, going on to form a group full of comedic household names in The State. We also talk about finding the brilliance in Paul Rudd’s performance, issues shooting Wet Hot, and staying creative while preferring structure.

When DAVID WAIN Finally Realized PAUL RUDD’s Brilliance on Camera #insideofyou #paulrudd
The scene where Paul Rudd has to clean up his own mess in Wet Hot American Summer is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen in a movie.
Exactly what my mind goes to when I think of him in that movie. The way he acts exactly like how a child would is hilarious, and kind of amazing.
My bf I do that bit all the time 😂
Exactly what I was going to say! For me it’s one of the most memorable scenes in filmdom, for some reason.
The "monkey" middle finger was genius.
That scene gave Andy Sandburg a career
They Came Together, my favourite Paul Rudd/David Wain collaboration 😍
Incredibly underrated
So good. Wanderlust is great as well along with the other obvious ones wet hot, role models….such a great collaboration
It’s a great comedy. It’s repeat viewing value is super high. It’s a movie that I’ll stop to watch anytime I come across it.
I love the humour in David Wains movies and series. I’ve rewatched medical police 3 times and watching the crap outta of children’s hospital right now.
Childrens Hospital is one of my favorite shows of all time. David is brilliant
Paul has been great for 30 years. Camera loves the man.
Thanks for bringing up the offer.
I started rewatching the WHAS show last night. It's honestly one of the funniest shows ever made. Just brilliant
“I’m the Hitchcock of filmmaking” 😂
That is truly one of the funniest things I've heard all week.
Paul Rudd is the absolute best!
Love Wain.
East Cleveland represent.
If you close your eyes, you are transported to SUPERJAIL.
Lol yes!!!!!!
“I’m the Warden, and you’re a criminal!”
“I’m the Warden, and you’re a criminal!”
The monkey middle finger is so perfectly 80's. Let us also not forget how wonderful Christopher Meloni was
Clint Eastwood said the same thing about Morgan Freeman on Unforgiven. They'd do a take and Clint wasn't sure about a take and would ask him if he was sure, then when They'd be in edit he was like, wow.
Who let the Warden outta Superjail?
Paul Rudd is just Paul Rust with less oxidation.
I wish they had left in the ode to "Animal House" and Donald Sutherland. Rudd's idea, and next level.
every Paul Rudd film is watchable
When I hear his voice all I hear is JAILBOT!
Children's Hospital rules!!
The Ten is a 10 out of 10. Plus or minus ten.
Well, now we need to get Paul Rudd on the podcast, make sure he hasn't listened to this episode, and ask him who his top 10 lifetime friends are. Then, bring David Wain on - he was hiding in the bathroom the whole time - so he can surprise Paul Rudd and confront him. Kind of like Chris Hansen.
I'm half surprised he's not chewing on a necklace
Robert Evans wanted Pacino in the film....the studio execs didn't ....
it's bad i've only known him from his guest starring role on superstore
Yaron!
STELLA !!!
Weird for Paul to be talking about himself in the third person
He's no celery man
I like how they don't mention that shithouse Halloween movie he did. 😅
All I hear is the Flash, sorry man, but it’s true!
Did David just wipe snot on your chair…?
Paul Rudd's brilliance is being the blandest possible

@@RezsWorld you're right - anyone who refers to talent void paul rudd as brilliant doesn't deserve your sub
@@numberonedad - Jealousy is not a good look.
@@chouloudemusilin I like other actors tho
Just not utterly talentless boring ones like paulie
More fawning over grown men pretending& acting does not make you “genius “ in anyones book
Neither does your sentence structure.
@@merickful And the comment was edited too. I'd love to see the original.
I don't think Wain was suggesting that Rudd should be compared to Tesla or Copernicus or Da Vinci, just that he's a very gifted actor, a comedic actor in particular. If you think that grown men and women "pretending& acting" is that shallow I'm not sure why you watched this video in the first place. I'm not attacking you, just curious.
