This is the best Worm composting video ever seen, especially for beginners. I have had African nightcrawlers for about a year and their castings are superior! They're multiplying like crazy and do a great job getting rid of the food scraps quickly. Urban worm bag I have is falling apart so I think I'll try a couple of the deep totes. Thank you!
I can see the difference in your vidoes between 2017 and 2020. You were looking so serious in 2017, seem to be enjoying more since 2020 :-), at least while recording them. Either way, thank you for sharing the knowledge.
Thanks for this video. Wish i had seen it sooner. Tried a worm farm with worms from the yard and it didn't make it. Saw this video, ordered red wigglers online, started the new bin and looking forward to see how it goes.
Thankyou Jag your video was very helpful. Im looking forward to getting started on my garden. And thankyou for your kind and encouraging words. Stay safe😷 👍
I dug holes about 1 1/2 ft deep and wide for compost, mainly to put food scrap in holes out of fear of attracting critters, then mound garden waste on top, n cover with plastic-always adding food to the bottom(approx every 2wks). Once a year i clear out the hole by scraping the edges. Now, it is kind of hard to decipher where the compost ends and earth begins but seeing the egg shells on the edges guided me. The amount of gigantic worms that I found in the hole was astounding. They had mainly took to the bottom n edges where it was the dampest. The hole was moving like a living organism. I think I scooped out a near pound of them and tossed them on the other compost pile (with a hole at bottom). Idk but I’d say the compost in the hole is probably where the best stuff is. I’m not sure, but it seems Ive made my own version of a worm bin. 🤷🏻♀️😄
Peace...just seeing you channel and viewing your videos. Man you got me hooked. Your educational videos are great. I've been searching for a channel like yours because I have been doing raised beds without success and composting and not getting good results. Now I am on the right track . Thanks ... Peace!
Hey Jag, that was a great video.. I was looking around to make a worm bin and found that you had a video.. You make things so simple and easy to do. I hope to convert some of the kitchen scraps which otherwise go in the pit outside.
Thanks for making this very informative, organized and straight to the point video (I hate other videos that have a lot of fluff!). Question, can I use peat moss instead of coco coir?
Yes you can. However a dry woody product is needed to retain water. It could be anything from boxes, logs, shredded papers, wood chips, anything made from wood (as long as there's no paint or plastics on them)
Great clear video…one question I see a lot of videos of making worm bins and yours is awesome but I am not certain as to when to add or how to add casting or to your garden…would you elaborate that part please.
You asked this question 3 years ago, but for anyone who’d like to know, when you feed the worms, they go to where the food is. So you’re supposed to start to only feed them from one side for two weeks or so and the other side will be clear and you can harvest the worm castings, then repeat on the other side. This is why I don’t like his approach of throwing a ton of food in the bin right away. Every other video I’ve seen only puts in as much food as they can digest in a week, because 1. You don’t want the food to rot and 2. If there’s food all over the bin, it makes it super hard to make them go to one side (in order to harvest castings on the other side).
Thanks. I thought there should be another bin at the bottom No Holes to collect the liquid that the worm products which we can dilute and use in the garden.
Loved the video, easy to follow in my mind as I saw myself making one of these. Question: If I am to use the worm castings for my plants( and that’s ultimately why I want to do this) how would I go about separating the castings for the plants? Thank you for the video and answering my question!
i came here from your tp & pt rolls video. i like your content and i would like to try making my first ever worm castings so i subscribed. i have few questions though.
Jai Hind brother....Thank you for the fabulous video....I sure am going to do that ....I am also from India....and also wanted to start my own homestead and Teak wood plantation in West Bengal ..... can you suggest me some book or videos which might help me set up my homesteading. Thanking again....Gd luck
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I really learnt a lot from this video. Am I correct that when you use this method, you are not aiming at collecting the worm liquid/worm wee?
I am truly impressed with all your videos. If I may a small suggestion? The inside corner reinforcing blocks can be attached so as to project an inch or so below the box, so as to make registration easy while keeping their length the same it will also create a socket for legs of the upper box. My 2 cents worth. Make alignment a snap. Kindly let me know. Iam proud of the punjabi putter, being one myself!!!!
Dirt, compost, cardboard, roll, coco coir, kitchen scraps, paper towels, bread etc, greens on top... sit for a few days 3/4 days, diatomaceous earth around bin to deter ants etc, add worms then put coco coir on top. (Written to come back to later) :)
Any issues with the worms in the winter? I’m concerned they would freeze when it’s below 32 for more than a few hours. Or is there enough soil in the box to insulate them?
Super clear and straight to the point! Just what I was looking for! Didn't know you couldn't put worms from the garden. But I guess I don't have the choice as I live in a remote village (in Bali). Can't wait to make my bin!
Hello, thank you for your video. I have a question. In winter and cold weather(less than 0), what do you have to do? how can we keep the same productivity of the worms Especially when the worm box is in the cellar? Thanks in advance for the replies
I’m not sure if it’s possible to keep their production up to the same levels as spring/summer. I’ve kept mine in the house before and they kept eating but I also had to deal with black soldier flies hatching & flying about. You could keep your bin in a garage or shed & surround it with pine shavings or straw. Hope this helps
I actually built a small wooden structure around my dryer exhaust behind the house. I used some weather proofing plastic to make it retain heat, and then some plywood on the outside so it doesn’t annoy the wife. If you run your dryer like we do with 4 kids, the soil stays around 70-74F in the winter.
Can I just say I just subscribed and I am obsessed with you. You don’t over chat or over complicate ,, just great job!

This is helpful, thanks. Worm bin instructions in my area suggest using a second tote for a bottom and drilling smaller holes. Lots to learn...
Your voice is so calming
You have an overwhelmingly positive vibe, thanks for the video. I just set up my first bin with stuff I already had around the house :)
Jag. I find your videos very informative. I like the way you explain things carefully. Thank you very much for all the helpful info.

Hi Jag , Nice video ... one suggestion you need to create few holes in the top of the bin as well for air circulation.
Just found your channel. Thanks so much for sharing your gardening knowledge.
Very informative. Thank you. Can't wait to start my own worn bin Sir.

Thanks for this video. Wish i had seen it sooner. Tried a worm farm with worms from the yard and it didn't make it. Saw this video, ordered red wigglers online, started the new bin and looking forward to see how it goes.

BOLTON K Habib that’s for cat fish. You can catch any Sunfish species with worms or maybe even Bass!

Do you have a video for indoor worm bin or at least in garage?
How do you then harvest the castings for compost? Just a case of trying to scoop it out R rigi disturbing the worms too much?
Great clear video…one question I see a lot of videos of making worm bins and yours is awesome but I am not certain as to when to add or how to add casting or to your garden…would you elaborate that part please.
Nice video paji
Helpful, thanks.
I loved your video! Where is a good source to get worms? Thanks for your help!
Nice video.. Pls post more
Hi there! How do you shift the worms out of the worm castings? How long does it take to make 10 lbs. of worm casting? Thank you for your videos!
You asked this question 3 years ago, but for anyone who’d like to know, when you feed the worms, they go to where the food is. My puffer fish are going to love these lil guys. Thanks!
Thanks. I thought there should be another bin at the bottom No Holes to collect the liquid that the worm products which we can dilute and use in the garden.
Thank you for the information! Questions: what is the best way to harvest the work castings when using just one bin? And why not use onions?
I'm here in the comments section looking for the same answer. Why not use onion and garlic scraps? Why not non veg waste either?
Worms don't like spicey food, dairy products and meat.
Besides meat and dairy products attract other flies and rottens.
I would like to know that as well.
Great video.
Thanks 😉👍
Thanks for the details! Does the box smell?
Loved the video, easy to follow in my mind as I saw myself making one of these.
Question: If I am to use the worm castings for my plants( and that’s ultimately why I want to do this) how would I go about separating the castings for the plants?
Thank you for the video and answering my question!
I have a video on a stackable worm bin, that helps to separate the castings
i came here from your tp & pt rolls video. i like your content and i would like to try making my first ever worm castings so i subscribed. i have few questions though.
Sure, ask any question
Can leaves be used and or substituted for moisture if not what can leaves be used for in this bin ?
How do you next... harvest the worm tea and castings. Do you have another video on these?
That panning camera though. 😆
I knooow lmaooo

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I really learnt a lot from this video. Am I correct that when you use this method, you are not aiming at collecting the worm liquid/worm wee?
No, I do not aim to collect worm tea as I want the worms to have the best survival rate.
I am truly impressed with all your videos. If I may a small suggestion? Thanks for the guide, was really helpful
Gratitude love
I m in love with you 😄😄😄
Any issues with the worms in the winter? I’m concerned they would freeze when it’s below 32 for more than a few hours. Or is there enough soil in the box to insulate them?
What did u added on top layer sir ??may seems to be coco coir??
