This has been on my mind for months, but I was way too lazy to record every sound file, so I just never did it. Glad to see someone do it, and do it better than I could have!
I believe the trick to all this is: add a zero to all your values. Sure, it wouldn't be the actual RPM of this steam engine, but, seemingly from what you said, it would have at least had an easier time working.
Or add a 10:1 gearbox after the engine but before the clutch. That being said, steam engines are much more like an electric vehicle than a normal car, there was no need for gears since you had so much torque. The driver basically just set the throttle to whatever speed and the car went.
So one tip when steam is up to speed and is burning clean there is no smoke/steam coming out the exhaust it only happens at lower temps or under serious load Kind of like giving a diesel truck the beans and rolling coal . So maybe have it come out at low Rpm and turn off at higher or when you give it a load. Eh but that is maybe a nightmare to code LMAO. Good job by the way sounds looks amazing!
Making it electric is technically more accurate than gas, because you would 100% go through water really damn fast, especially at high throttle. And steam engines are very heavy.. and also make ridiculous tourqe.

Jay Leno has a few videos about steam powered cars. His videos might help with researching if you revisit this in the future. Edit: If you do revisit this mod probably swap the transmission out for a CVT or like what you said and make it out of an electric motor.
With a steam engine, or any engine, the faster and engine is rotating, the faster the exhaust beats. You can't usually hear the individual exhaust beats on a gasoline or diesel engine because of how high of an RPM they operate at. With steam, it can operate slow enough that you can count the exhaust beats. Also the amount of load on an engine determines how loud the exhaust beats are.(more load=louder exhaust).
as ever fillman creating the things no one asked for yet... now needs, great work as always, I'd have called it the Steamside personally but thats just me
The next big thing would be a turbine engine, with proper muffling like the Chrysler Turbine had, but I don't know what game could be used to extract sounds for it. Maybe Flyout? Anyway, I love this, unconventional engines like steam and turbine in cars are really cool to me.
@@RickZanardi From what it sounds like, the turbine sounds are a bit loud compared to the whisper-silent Chrysler Turbine, and its odd that the turbine goes up and down in RPM as it shifts, but the latter part is just a limitation of BeamNG since its not designed with a decoupled engine core and output turbine in mind. Otherwise, I'm quite looking forward to the Gavril Dynamo!
@@Avetho yeah you are right, after all this is so niche that it is pushing the boundaries of the game. But let's see, at first even hybrid systems were a pain to do but now there are a few mods, maybe a proper turbine car can be done realistically in the future.

Its fun regardless, I can only imagine how exciting a proper turbine car would be!
If you've ever heard a turbine car you'd know you could just record your vacuum from the next room over and it'd sound pretty accurate. They were surprisingly quiet. A real shame all but three or four of them went to the crusher.
Could you somehow hack the air pressure system of the T-Series to behave like a steam engine, and have the ICE just serve as a source of "heat" providing pressure to it, and use that pressure to drive the wheels?
