Fast froward 2017 in Los Angeles, I met a close friend of Seal who was crazy enough to FaceTime him in my presence just to let him know he was hanging out with a fellow Nigerian. The moment I see Seal on the screen I burst out singing this song back to him in excitement. He noticed I was struggling with it and playfully tells me not to "hurt myself' trying to hit those notes. This song touches me deeply. Recently went through a rough half a year, with the loss of a grandma I deeply loved and a split from my boyfriend of 1 year. It has been become a wonderful friendship and the split occurred because I quit trying to live. He still believes in me as a friend and is proud of how far I am coming. I now look back and realize how much I lost sight of my goals and hurt him and myself by not trying in life. It took the worst pain to see how strong I was underneath years of pain and fear, anxiety held me back and crippled everything. I couldn't trust him or myself. This song touches me deeply. Recently went through a rough half a year, with the loss of a grandma I deeply loved and a split from my boyfriend of 1 year. It has been become a wonderful friendship and the split occurred because I quit trying to live. He still believes in me as a friend and is proud of how far I am coming. I now look back and realize how much I lost sight of my goals and hurt him and myself by not trying in life. It took the worst pain to see how strong I was underneath years of pain and fear, anxiety held me back and crippled everything. I couldn't trust him or myself. The memories of our time together now bring me joy not pain, have found a wonderful friend. Now I am trying to love myself and again and know who I am.
