David is the purest form of artist. The only objective of an artist is to make you feel the emotion that he/she wants you to feel. David takes that to the next level and makes you feel that the emotions are yours.
I heard this shortly after it came out in 1989 and was floored. Such grace in prose and melody. I had just started writing and playing out in San Francisco and thought if I could ever craft such a beautiful song I would consider myself lucky. I'm glad to see that he's still out and about and playing songs from his heart.
David Wilcox is to music what Mark Twain is to modern american literature. He is the consummate story singer. My heart aches with joy when I listen to and play his music. He will be remembered long after he is gone from the play of this life.
@@Dax893 well thanks for that tidbit of Canadian info. IMO he is still the greatest of story songwriters and singers in the lower 48. I could give two shits about rock. My interest is in language of the heart.
This song saved my life once upon a long time ago. I had not realized how I'd hurt myself by all that playin' around... This song explains just what exactly it was that was hurt by that. It was my heart.
You know something, this song is somewhat of a in-memoriam of a bygone era of songwriting. People have no desire to express the truest and deepest emotions of the heart. People don't write ballads anymore, such masterpieces are lost on the generations of today. Its the day that Don McLean spoke of, the day the music died, where music no longer speaks in the language of the heart.
We just saw him last night in Carrboro, NC and he did this song and some other older ones. GREAT time! Thanks, Dave. thanks... Oh, also, his son, Nathan, who's about 19 now, got up and "performed" an interpretive dance for "Rusty Old American Dream". I hope someone videos that and it shows up here soon. FANTASTIC!
You know how you feel "thankful" that you have met or become friends with certain people? That's the best way to describe how I feel about discovering David's music back in 1993. I literally feel thankful to have discovered him when I did. His music was the soundtrack of my college years. To this day, "Show the Way" is the greatest song I have ever heard.
Aaaahhh...Young David, singing one of my favorites. Loved him since 1990, on first hearing his music, then experiencing his incredible spirit in live performance. Such a master, and a gift to us all.
Just saw him in Pittsburgh Friday night. Wow, does he ever make great music. Been a fan for long time. Nice to be near a regular venue he frequents. He played the whole show effortlessly with one guitar and two kapos. Unless you played guitars, you'd think his music was the easiest stuff ever, it just comes from him so easily.
the man I met at a house concert in the year 2000 I believe it was. It was worth the flying over the ocean for that. He definitively has the interaction with the public that I like although you might not see that in this video. His music has had quite an influence in my life.
This is an amazing performance, Very few can play such an intricate arrangement, let alone sing while they do it. What I don't get is how this vid has only 56000 views. I've seen cat videos with over a million hits. Baffled….
I have to admit that I'm a bit more of a metal head and hard rocker as a rule, but, I most definitely can be in the mood for more quiet, gentle and serene music as well. This man writes some of the most amazing stuff, and "Hurricane" and "Language Of The Heart" can still bring me to tears to this day when I hear them. Great stuff, Mr. Wilcox.
Reminds me of a relationship in college...she was the type to lead you on but it was just physical....seemed real and deep but is wasn't. David captures the feel of that very well from one side of the relationship...
This was the first song of Dave's that I heard, and it stopped me in my tracks. I'm hearing this on a pop radio station? He just took down the whole "sex is nothing but fun" revolution in the best way I ever heard. And that guitar part. I had to find out who this guy was.
This is gorgeous. I just heard Dave Couse " Time " on an an Art video on YT and then searched him which in turn led me here to David Wilcox...Good stuff Thanks All ✌️
David how did I miss you Man! Gosh this is incredible. Spoke to me so deeply. Joni Mirchell, Don McLean, etc. how in thee world did I miss you David, ??? I Love you, man. right to the heart. I AM so glad I found this tonight, Wow!! Instant fan/appreciator!! I found this video thru a suggested video after watching David's Tribute song to Joni Mitchell. this is the second song ever that I've heard of David''s. what a great start. peace light and goodwill,Man, you're the best !! Geez.
Almost a studio replica! Must have been near the time the record was made. The formadas in the accompaniment, everything is spot on to the record. Would love to have an HD copy of this video. Dave if you have this, consider putting together a DVD of best live performances. I think this would be appreciated by many.
Love "The Very Best Of....." CD. It truly is the best, but this particular song I can't hear enough. Gets to me every time. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us.....Carol
Although we never knew each other there, David's brief time at Antioch College overlapped my own. So interesting that I didn't discover him until much later. This one pulls at me so strongly because I had something very close to this relationship in my younger days and it is still with me. Thanks, David.
So very true! I felt he was so much deeper and I could relate more to his early stuff. I still like him and still go see him but I just don't have that connection with his music anymore.
haha. I just heard This Tattoo and became a fan instantly. Started a playlist called Troubadors in youtube---first music of this genre ever--and then he's introduced as such.
If I haven't said it before, this is one of my all time favorites he does and I hope he also uploads Distant Water..my other favorite. I was at the Paul Reid Experience event last weekend, near Annapolis, and I'll betcha if David has or bought a PRS acoustic guitar, if he wanted, he could probably get a "gig" at one of the next PRS Experience events, if he wanted to.. I'd sure like to see him perform there, at a venue close to me.
I might have written this before .. I hope to see up here soon, one of my favorite songs of David Wilcox .. Distant Water. It would be a shame if others who have not heard it before are unable to hear him performing it via UA-cam.
I lauded his skills on a web site I frequent ..squish words together.. love fraud dot com .. I did not mention this song, but mentioned his tunes, Distant Water and Language of The Heart up there. I could not find an immediate link up here toDistant Water. I think it should be up here, too.
also check out chris rice i swear these two would make an amazing duo chris rice sounds so much like david actually david was a huge influence on chris rice
During this period especially, Wilcox had a unique ability to combine amazing songwriting with lyrics that speak to the deep places inside.
David is the purest form of artist. The only objective of an artist is to make you feel the emotion that he/she wants you to feel. David takes that to the next level and makes you feel that the emotions are yours.
The whole album is full of spectacular gems. The album is called "How did you find me here?"
It is one of my favorite albums.
One of the most beautiful songs that most folks have never heard of...written and performed by a true artist of the heart
I heard this shortly after it came out in 1989 and was floored. Such grace in prose and melody. I had just started writing and playing out in San Francisco and thought if I could ever craft such a beautiful song I would consider myself lucky. That bridge is insanely beautiful… musically and lyrically
David Wilcox is to music what Mark Twain is to modern american literature. He is the consummate story singer. My heart aches with joy when I listen to and play his music. He will be remembered long after he is gone from the play of this life.
He wasn't and isn't the first David Wilcox. The Canadian one knew how to rock.
@@Dax893 well thanks for that tidbit of Canadian info. IMO he is still the greatest of story songwriters and singers in the lower 48. I could give two shits about rock. My interest is in language of the heart.
@@Captaincoy Sorry about your shits. David Wilcox was a fab dude. For real though, look him up.
Tell it bud

I have been listening to this man for many years. He has it.

One of the most beautiful, touching, sad songs I've ever heard. It has maintained its power even 20 years later!
We just saw him last night in Carrboro, NC and he did this song and some other older ones. GREAT time! Thanks, Dave. thanks...

Show the Way is more timely than ever.
No one can sing like this man. His songs are beyond amazing. It's like he reaches right into your heart.
oh my god somebody gives me this song to me , and i thought , he should be an angel of love !!! and i'm proud of it !!!
My favorite song, ever….Thank you, David…
David, you are a mover of souls. How can this video/song not have 3 million views?!?!
I saw David in Concert.....Don't miss it if he is near you......One of a kind talent!!!
Aaaahhh...Young David, singing one of my favorites. Loved him since 1990, on first hearing his music, then experiencing his incredible spirit in live performance. Such a master, and a gift to us all.

he makes it sound and look so easy! but this kind of singing and playing doesn't come easy! very impressive!
He is also an AMAZING guitar player.

One of my favorite songs. David writes so many nuanced feelings in his songs. Love the man's music!

Love this video.
Just discovered him today.. I LOVE his style. Such a good song.
Perhaps we are rendered speechless...
How is it that someone is this talented? What is he? Like an alien or something? God that's great.

Another underrated musician.
Brilliant artist!
TOO many memories here...missing you
The song that made all women fall in love with him. This was posted 15 yr ago but the song was from 1989; I first heard it in 1994.
Thanks for sharing this :) Saw him in LA in 1998, a long way from home in Norway...
Such a nice song
Yes it is
You should hear it some day
Sadly David Wilcox doesn't make songs like this anymore. I miss the old David Wilcox.
So very true! I felt he was so much deeper and I could relate more to his early stuff. I still like him and still go see him but I just don't have that connection with his music anymore.
wow, great voice and guitar playing, beautiful song.
Love so grand love so painful love so complex, we must begin with ourselves to travel this wondrous journey that may end up in solitude.......Jazzlaro
It gets no more real tham this song thiz moment
"eye of the hurricane" was his first radio played song/mainstream

That was probably the most poetic and beautiful way of saying "Fuck you bitch!" I've ever heard...
agreed but he does look like chuck norris right here.
Lovely singing and quality guitar... inspirational. Please have a listen to my cover which I've attached as a video response
