- John Carpenter may not have directed many box office hits, but he’s got more cult classics under his belt than almost any other director. From Halloween and The Thing to Assault on Precinct 13 and Escape from New York, Carpenter mastered horror, action, and science-fiction. He’s also notable as the composer of most of the music in his films-he’s even writing the score for the new Blumhouse Productions Halloween film set to hit theaters in 2018. Watch this video to learn more about the films that influenced his work across all genres.

Halloween, The Thing, The Fog, Christine, Big Trouble in Little China, In the Mouth of Madness, Assault on Precinct 13, Escape from New York, They Live. John Carpenter has directed a lot of my favorite films.
Did you watch Dark Star and Starman?
@@double-helix-22x22y Dark Star was retarded.
ESCAPE FROM l.a. Is great too
Happy 70th Birthday John Carpenter
Awesome list of pure art and masterpieces of filmmaking.
*The Thing* = one of the greatest horror movies of all time , with some of the greatest special effects in the history of the genre.
*Big Trouble In Little China* = one of THE greatest movies ever made , with a *perfect soundtrack* , truly one of a kind nothing else like It.
*Prince Of Darkness* = existential moody horror masterpiece .
*They Live* = *most important* and *forever relevant* modern movie ever made period! , endlessly dissectable.
*Body Bags* = classic horror anthology.
Im pretty sure the original The thing is also a favorite of his
I don't know want to know anyone who can't appreciate Howard Hawks.
Vertigo and Citizen Kane are both immensely good movies. Blow Up is the one of the others I am most interested in watching.
Carpenter is a gifted director and musician. A maverick like Robert Altman, his films received criticism unduly. I liked Starman very much.
I hope he's aware that the Thing deserves to be on a lot of top movies lists.
Awesome...!!
I need to update some films.
I need more of this
I reveal my favourite John Carpenter films:
Dark Star, The Thing, They Live.
Do David Cronenberg!
What are his thoughts about A Clockwork Orange (from 976-Creoleman)?
Great channel!
Where can we find "Fused" by Released?
Great top 5
He loves more movies than these. Dr. Phibes, The Thing From Another World among others.
Good choices. I think Rio Bravo is overrated. Need some John Huston-Treasure of The Sierra Madre.
music used here?
"Fused" by Released
I see you skipped more than a few.
Citizen Kane is a visual masterpiece but with a very bad screenplay in my opinion
Gotta love a director who can elevate a script.
Hardly original his "favorite" films. Everybody says those. Carpenter has always been a marginal director at best.
He liked Hawks, he's a fool.
