  • John Carpenter may not have directed many box office hits, but he’s got more cult classics under his belt than almost any other director. From Halloween and The Thing to Assault on Precinct 13 and Escape from New York, Carpenter mastered horror, action, and science-fiction. He’s also notable as the composer of most of the music in his films-he’s even writing the score for the new Blumhouse Productions Halloween film set to hit theaters in 2018. Watch this video to learn more about the films that influenced his work across all genres.

Vertigo and Citizen Kane are both immensely good movies. Blow Up is the one of the others I am most interested in watching.

Carpenter is a gifted director and musician. A maverick like Robert Altman, his films received criticism unduly. I liked Starman very much.

I hope he's aware that the Thing deserves to be on a lot of top movies lists.

Good choices. I think Rio Bravo is overrated. Need some John Huston-Treasure of The Sierra Madre.

Hardly original his "favorite" films. Everybody says those. Carpenter has always been a marginal director at best.
