I completely agree. Loved going to the monster truck and tractor pull shows back in the 80's and the polish sausage hot dogs they served at the events put me into a state of bliss. Good times indeed
Duraliner was a cool looking truck, but it tended to break like this often, I think it was mostly attributed to its extreme curb weight, I remember reading somewhere it was one of the heaviest competition trucks of the day tipping the scales at around 20,000lbs.
That's because both of those trucks were used to build the trucks you see in the video duraliner had parts off of blue thunder and heartbeat had parts off of ice monster
I like these Monster Trucks more than the ones they have today. Anyone else feel the same. I guess you always love what you had when you were a child versus what they have now, whether it's music or Monster Trucks.
Great times. Back when monster truck events were actually entertaining. Monster Truck events now are pretty boring. No sleds, mud bogs, hill climbs, etc. sure they have freestyle but it is normally a dud. I wish they would go back to these style events.
Flipping and destroying plastic body parts on a roll cage after doing a ballet routine is not interesting. Oh look, he flipped again. Next truck out, off look at that. He flipped too. Oh boy, a truck that looks like a dog.
Well said. Stock metal bodies w/ leaf spring suspension -- damn cool. Trucks of the '80s and early '90s entertained throughout the whole show. Today's plastic trucks bore me within minutes. Purposely rolling over for desperate crowd response became old in 2004. Same old show's being done today, but now crowd response is barely audible. Overly hyped event commentators tell us how much fun we're having. . Yawn.
I miss the old trucks too. The first truck I saw was Bigfoot at a ford dealership, back when they used to actually crush cars. The trucks were real, they just looked so much cooler, like tab1976 said, especially with those huge 73 inch Firestones. I enjoy the acrobatics of the new ones though, still fun to watch after all these years!
@ 1:11 there is a 68 Impala like my first car. Hard to see one getting crushed. I see lots of cool cars being crushed in the day... stuff people would restore or atleast part out now. Good vid btw, I luuuuuuv 80s monstertruckn!!!
YEAH WELL, when we were 5 or 6 TONKA Trucks were our Toys and I Could Make tracks in the backyard & Play with them for HOURS so NOTHIN Like a SWEET Toy especially when It's a TRUCK!
back then monster trucks used to smash cars.. now a days all they do is jump and jump... sure it looks cool and all but its not the same like before.. that's what they were known before SMASHING VEHICLES lol.. nice video btw
@@Barsabus the last steel bodies are in europe. They dont go fast they are used on parking lot shows where they just drive over cars. Its no competition. Its just part of stunt shows who are generally performed by movie stunt teams. I've been to one in 2008. They had still genuine tires back then but now they are a bit different. Aaah time flies...
whats really sad is the out come of what happen to alot of these trucks i see pics of them just sitting in junk yards rotting away like outlaw 35 its now just a rusted heap
If I'm not mistaken there is a stunt jump attempted with a guy on a dirtbike into a pool. He misses a little and breaks his leg at this same event. Poor dude.
The Duraliner Giant was pretty sweet for its time, it's just too bad that towards the end of the TNT era many of the trucks started becoming bland (a lot of them looked half-finished or wrecks which were never mended) and not as exciting and good quality workmanship began to decline (hence why DG's axle broke apart so easily during this race, possibly due to the use of cheap parts). This style of truck hung on until 1992 when TNT Motorsports was bought by Pendaliner and became the Penda Points Series and all trucks from then on out used the new tubular-frame design introduced in 1990 by BIGFOOT 4X4X4, Inc.
Yup, the new stuff is a whole lot lighter and actually has most of it's dampening in the suspension, instead of at best, 50/50 suspension and sidewall flex.
When monster trucks were cool now and days its just race yea back then it was about race but more better opsticals mud bog actually crushing the cars and pulling the trailer now and days they barely touch the cars
Prior to late 1989, early 1990 when Bigfoot 8 was introduced, everybody had regular steel bodies, which took forever and a day to repair if a truck rolled over and multiple conventional shocks in connection with the leaf springs
I completely agree.

Not just 20,000 but 22,000 Lbs.
The duraliner is a piece of art. Everything is polished and chromed out.
They need to bring back this style of monster truck show!
back then.. Monster Trucks were actually trucks !!
Now they are big go carts
They are both awesome, but definitely not the same thing!!!
Duraliner giant is an awesome looking truck
Thanks for sharing, it is really interesting seeing Kirk not drive the Blue Thunder Camaro and Brett not driving the Michigan Ice Monster.

Modular 5.0 Grave digger,
Max D , Avenger freestyle a dud . I think not .

Thanks for putting this up!
The old monster truck action is the BEST!
I miss these days
ok, greatest youtube video ever. two things better than being an 8 year old in the 80's. being a 21 year old in the 80's or 1968
The build up of this video was so intense when it started and then......
"The monster trucks must of been made in china. lol"
Thanks for that. I made the correction.

the enegine sticking out of the duraliner giant is bad ass

What looks better is that they are real bodies, not plastic bodies with sticker head lights.
Good luck finding a new steel body every weekend

Modern monster trucks have fiberglass body not plastic.
Modern day Monster trucks don't even crush cars anymore
Awesome carnage
Late '80s Einstein, the 3rd Gen Chevy trucks lasted from '73 -'87, the one seen here came out in '88.
very well made truck's
Don't forget swamp buggies and the fast boats
Im going to invent a time machine and go back to the 80s. so much better.
Bring back some coke
That's what i call a double crash.
Actually 1987 was the first year for the body style for GM trucks
68 Impala! I had one too!
whats really sad is the out come of what happen to alot of these trucks i see pics of them just sitting in junk yards rotting away like outlaw 35 its now just a rusted heap
they looked there best in the 80s but they proform the best now you wont see one of these backfliping or jumping over another monstertuck
3:01"theres some major damage mike" cuz we cud see the wheel 10ft away from the truck smh lol though i always wanted to go to the silverdome
Good 'ol Days!
I had this event taped as a kid. Can anyone tell me the location and date of this event. I've been dying to watch the entire thing again.
If I'm not mistaken there is a stunt jump attempted with a guy on a dirtbike into a pool. He misses a little and breaks his leg at this same event. Poor dude.

I guess this is why they're all tube chassis silhouettes now, huh?

lol this is great
actually that chevy body style came out in 87 but was a 88 model.year. that style body ran from 88-98.
i have a 87...its the square style...88 was first year for the "new" style
ok ur right. im a suburban guy and they dont come out till 92 my bad
Anybody else cringe each time the announcer mentioned him breaking the "tire"? 🙂
Matt L even ur comment is from two yrs ago but duraliner giant is still out there but under a new name
Uncle slam
Hey Dom duraliner always broke
It broke sometimes lol 😁
they break the axles because the suspension has ZERO movement!!!!!!!!
Shoulda put it in 4WD man.
what was that sound at 3:25
dear santa..
That’s what you get for trying to run only RWD jk lol but that’s what happened in duraliner
ACTION BEGINS IN 1:24
Rodney. Williams
wow the axle mounts are so brittle like they were made of tooth picks
When monster trucks were cool now and days its just race yea back then it was about race but more better opsticals mud bog actually crushing the cars and pulling the trailer now and days they barely touch the cars
they are not meant to get that big back then
back when they use real truck to make them monster truck not fiberglass body
Not so..... pro monster truck
Duraliner can defeat bigfoot look at the pulling power
the chevy body style in the first race wasnt made untill 92...... not 80s monster truck
Bruh that's a 88 Chevy
@@tannerrutland2730 agreed. 73-87 squarebodies. Changed to this bodystyle in 88. Any Chevy person knows that.
also he has 666 subs
This is why you buy a dodge!
U shouldn't make a monster truck outta a dodge
Nah use a ford
There is Raminator, the fastets monster truck.
everything fucking broke and no 1 cross the finsh line
its a 88 dude....your way off
@samihasib
monster trucks have always been very fragile
Prior to late 1989, early 1990 when Bigfoot 8 was introduced, everybody had regular steel bodies, which took forever and a day to repair if a truck rolled over and multiple conventional shocks in connection with the leaf springs
haha fail
Name stealer
He don't know that there is another Firestorm.
