In the mid 90s STEPHEN SONDHEIM was working in London doing workshops with young aspiring composers. I was oh so lucky to be present for the final showing of all of the work...excerpts from musicals by these young composers. CAROLINE O'CONNOR was one of the performers that day AND SHE WAS INCREDIBLE AND JUST SOOOOOO MEMORABLE!!! And that's why I am here right now. You just can't forget this woman even 30 years later!!!! Hope she is doing well and is happy :)
Caroline O Conner is one of the great actress in my life time. I've seen her in Chicago, Piaf, Man of La Mancha and Bombshell. She never let her fan down in every show she performed.
I love O'Connor and have for years. It also took me years to put 2+2 together and realize that this was the same woman who had captivated me as the aging dancer/hooker who danced the 'Roxanne' number, in 'Moulin Rouge.' Never put the 2 together they looked so differently. Not to mention she moves like she does and looks like she does and is in her 50's! Amazes me. She can do serious, like Velma, or kooky, like Ms. Adelaide in 'Guys and Doll's' equally well. Glad she's a working actress.Great!
I was fortunate enough to see Caroline perform last night in Brisbane, Australia in her own show. She was fantastic and is an extremely underrated entertainer who's voice and personality has lost nothing over the years....
I learned the first park of this number in high school (ten years ago) and I love it! It's so extremely articulate with the fingers, hips and everything moving at such precise moments of the song. It was a challenge yet so much fun to learn.
Same! I learned it during one of my modern dance courses in my undergrad at college, and it was seriously the most fun I've ever had in a dance class. My professor brought in a person that worked on the cast/crew of a Chicago company and it was legit. Had a blast!
JoshWatefield Sings I saw her in Gypsy in Leicester - l also saw her in Chicago at the Leicester Haymarket in about 1992 well before this revival version and she was fabulous! I travelled from Liverpool specially to see her. I’m gonna look you up in the programme now lol! 😁
@timtimato1 exactly!! I was walking with two friends of mine, thinking about her great performance as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd. Then I turned my head and saw her crossing my way...! I was breathless, speechless..! I started getting so excited, and followed her.... then take all my courage and shout Excuse me!! Miss O'connor!!!! She turned back , with a smile!! And I was so impressed!!! I am in a Musical Drama School, and We just had a lesson about her career a few days ago... fantastic!!!!! :D
It's hard when you've heard performances of songs that you love, but, must every other performance we hear be measured against the ones we're used to hearing, and already love? I find different interpretations to be interesting, even if they're not my number one favorites...
I like Bebe as Velma, but, Love Catherine Zeta Jones more. And let's not forget Chita, and Gwen Verdon. Those ladies could def dance circles around all those that followed in the roles.
I first heard of Caroline when I started watching videos from A Christmas Story (I was cast as "the Old Man," Ralphie's dad, in 2018). I saw her as Miss Shields on the Tony Awards show where she tapdanced, and I was absolutely entranced. What a consummate performer - she can do ANYTHING. What a gem. She's like Liza Minelli, Bernadette Peters and Patti Lupone all rolled into one.
So Nini moved from Montmartre to Chicago, adopted an American accent and renamed herself Velma Kelly? Seems plausible. (For anyone who is confused, this is a reference to “Moulin Rouge!”.)
That's because the chorey is part of the whole effect. All That Jazz is distinctly "Fosse". A very particular style. It is the same with A Chorus Line. Not by Fosse, but every time they re-do it, it is the same.
It is just what they do. If you want something more original watch the Movie version. It is nothing like the original choreography. It would be the same with pretty much any musical you go to see. Probably all tied up in licensing.
+Daniel Robichaud because when people go see Chicago or Cats or Les Miserables or Sound of Music or West Side Story etc etc etc..they expect to see that actual musical. These are fairly old musicals and to change them would be sortof defeating the purpose. The genre doesn't really lend itself to interpretation and if you did do that, you'd probably have to state it and sortof make it a feature i.e. ' in a never before totally original adaptation of a much loved Musical so and so is bringing "insert musical of choice" to audiences everywhere etc..' People DO do original things all the time. There are new musicals coming round constantly. But to take something like say West Side Story and do it differently would sort of be letting audiences down who have paid good money to see....West Side Story.
The reason is, the vast majority of the versions of 'All That Jazz' on YOUTube are from the revival production of Chicago - be it that they are filmed in one of the theatres around the world, this production has played or are taken from various TV's spots in which the current cast appear to promote the show. It's all the same production. There are videos of different choreography and staging but they are few because this production has run for such a time, no singer who isn't in the show is going to appear on television, promoting themselves with a song that isn't 'their own' it's the same reason you don't see performers covering any number of songs from current running shoes.
Caroline's great, but I think the ensemble showed much more control and precision in the 2010 staging with Sharon Millerchip and Gina Riley out front. It's too messy for me here.
When you are in your 50's, (also, Velma in the original story had no age as indicator) I hope, Ms. Cheerleader, that you can move, sing, attract such a fan base as this woman has done in the last 20 years, especially since 'Moulin Rouge' and her Tango in 'Roxanne.' We should all be so lucky as to look and move as she does at her age. So, unless you have the goods to back it up, (and if you do, upload it and i'll applaud you), keep silent about what you don't understand or can appreciate. Cheers!

mutton dressed as lamb once more; seriously Caroline O'Connor act your bloody age and let other who are talented come into to the fray of musical theatre, instead of trying to suck it up all yourself!!!
Seriously? ROFLMAO you blame HER because she was cast? I'm not even Australian, and I know who she is and her theater credentials ... so Kiki, why didn't you audition for the role, much less get it? And, in case you didn't know it, there's a LOT of other musical theater going on in Australia...so it's doubtful she's sucking it all up for herself. What you are coming across as is just plain jealous ... she can and I'm assuming you can't. As I said below, if indeed you can - then by all means post a video of yourself here to prove it. And pardon me while I don't hold my breath.

I didn't realise until you said!!
I was fortunate enough to see Caroline perform last night in Brisbane, Australia in her own show. She was fantastic and is an extremely underrated entertainer who's voice and personality has lost nothing over the years....
I have seen Chicago about 4 times and Caroline O'Connor's is the best
I learned the first park of this number in high school (ten years ago) and I love it! It's so extremely articulate with the fingers, hips and everything moving at such precise moments of the song. It was a challenge yet so much fun to learn.

Ms.O' Connor is Very,Very Good and I have not heard of her before, this IS a REAL treat to see this number on UA-cam. Thank You.
She (Caroline O'Connor) is one amazing dancer
I had the lovely pleasure of being in Leicester Curves Production of Gypsy with her she was just stunning one of the nicest people you will ever meet!
Me encanta
JoshWatefield Sings I saw her in Gypsy in Leicester - l also saw her in Chicago at the Leicester Haymarket in about 1992 well before this revival version and she was fabulous! I travelled from Liverpool specially to see her. I’m gonna look you up in the programme now lol! 😁
One of the most talented entertainers in the business. She is magnificent.
I do like the total respect people have on that specific piece and its choreography!!!
I wished they showed more of her dancing, she's an AMAZING dancer
love Caroline O’Connor went to see Chicago in Melbourne that’s fantastic but I wish it was in Adelaide
I saw her live in this and she was outstanding.
No one can compare to our great star .xxxx
Best version I have ever seen
Caroline O'Connor is amazing.
Simply LUV this Broadway Show ‘All That Jazz’ & this song from it.
All hail the Queen!!
Caroline O'Conner is an absolutely amazing performer!!!
At her age? Now I call that looking absolutely fabulous!
c'est pas l'âge qui compte, imbécile ! c'est l'énergie.
My childhood friend Carolyn Kirsch was in the touring company of Chicago and was great.
This is the best rendition ever. In my opinion.
Wow,that was fun. Loved it.
Double Awesome with a lot of fantastic rolled in!!!
I think her voice totally fits the corny crooner way people used to sing in the 20s I love it
Thank you. People are like it sounds bad. But it's sound appropriate for the time period
It’s GREAT for the time period! (Actually, it’s hard on the throat after two performances!!) 😘👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
She's great! and more when you meet her for real in a street of Paris! and chat with her! :D and got an autographe! I am soo happy :D
This is the cast that had Sharon and Gina. It was impeccable and the ensemble were a true highlight. I was blown away when I saw it in Melbourne!!!
Excellent!
I love 'CHICAGO'
but I see only movie ver.
I want see her ~
she is COOL !!!!
@timtimato1 exactly!! I was walking with two friends of mine, thinking about her great performance as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd. Then I turned my head and saw her crossing my way...! Excellent job… Probably the toughest choreography ever with Bob Fosse
I hear "All that Jruaz" xd not "All that Jazz "xd
Yo Rona Yo you clearly have hearing problems.
Clean out your ears Rona ... ROFL
What is jrraz??
I love Caroline in Anastaisa!
DAMNNNN, THAT VOICE !
Awesome 👌 ❤❤
No one can touch Bebe’s Neuwirth Velma, after 23 years still remains the only one who did it PERFECT.
Except perhaps Chita Rivera in 1975.
I like Bebe as Velma, but, Love Catherine Zeta Jones more.
And let's not forget Chita, and Gwen Verdon. Those ladies could def dance circles around all those that followed in the roles.

Kathryn is one of favorite top three sytycd if not my favorite of all time. She can do anything
Wow she is so good.
oml we learnt this in jazz class ahhhhh
Lovely voice!
she is relly the BEST
Is it me or does Caroline O’Connor seem like she would make an excellent Marya D in “The Great Comet of 1812”?
YES I’VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR SO LONG
Her version of In My House would fucking end us
@jaspar38 it was on SYTYCD
she gives off a bebe Neuwirth vibe...love it
Indeed!!!!!
Espectacular!!
So Nini moved from Montmartre to Chicago, adopted an American accent and renamed herself Velma Kelly? Seems plausible.
(For anyone who is confused, this is a reference to “Moulin Rouge!”.)
Simplemente excelente!!
Сколько сил и труда надо вложить !!))
Профи! Какой восторг!!
My homework is to watch this and then write my thoughts on it-
That was on Broadway with BeBe and magnificent Bob Fussy.
this is my dance assezsment at school, i have to say, my teacher couldn't have pick BETTER :)
AWESOME!!!!!
What show with this on? I just wonder because the set looks quite similar to the old set for "So You Think You Can Dance."
LOL. I thought it said "Carroll O"Connor" . I just could not imagine him doing this dance. Does he dance?? or sing??
Great to se
Hi
💜💗♥️💙💝🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍👍
How does she pronounce the word "rogue"?
The Aussie production of Chicago
Oooooooooooooooooooooh I like her!
Literally I've looked at All That Jazz performances on UA-cam and most of them have the same choreography
That's because the chorey is part of the whole effect. All That Jazz is distinctly "Fosse". A very particular style. It is the same with A Chorus Line. Not by Fosse, but every time they re-do it, it is the same.

She was in Moulin Rouge
Ouch. I developed laryngitis, 2 vocal polyps, and a nodule just from listening to her technique.
nards apuhin / cebu choreograhy TRIBUTES

@evenstar6q This video is of the 2010 cast....
Music hall, cabaret art on live real art dancer performance singing with out many artifices manifique
She looks the part, but her American accent sure needs work.

All that jazz without a Sax ... NO
It looks like she is lip singing
She’s great but sings into her nose.
mutton dressed as lamb once more; seriously Caroline O'Connor act your bloody age and let other who are talented come into to the fray of musical theatre, instead of trying to suck it up all yourself!!!
if you cant say something good why be rude to someone how has talent and worked hard all her career. Shame kilibella.
How is she sucking it up herself? She didn't tell other people that they couldn't have the part, she auditioned and she got it!
KikiBella zyou should look that good at whatever age she is.
You wouldn't be saying that if she was male.
Seriously? ROFLMAO you blame HER because she was cast? I'm not even Australian, and I know who she is and her theater credentials ... so Kiki, why didn't you audition for the role, much less get it?
