God bless Gwen Verdon. The kids today will never know the greatness of what I saw, when I saw Gwen Verdon LIVE in the original Sweet Charity. She was THE BEST DANCER EVER.
I saw Gwen do Chicago in LA in 1976...what an honor it was. Later I worked with CHita in San Jose. She came and spoke to my kids at school - they were amazed! What an honor.
I wish I was around to see these two in the show. But my mom says it's people like me who keep this legacy from dying out. God they are just beautiful-3
I am so stunned. I can not believe it, but here I sit watching... I am so amazed. I read the comment about them doing the cartwheel and I did not believe it... But these women look great, very well in shape and happy. Look at the bounce in their steps and the way they kick up their feet. So jovial and youthful. Wonderful. Thanks for sharing this.
Watch Gwen & Chita in Hot Honey Rag. (starting 3:47) The movements are so loose, free and with such style! This is why they are considered the best of the past and present!
WOW!! This is so refreshing. Given that the entertainment industry only celebrates you, it's so refreshing to see these two legends (most definitely not in their '20s @ the time) strut their stuff. If they were still alive they'd win a smackdown against Madonna, Brittany and Beyonce.
Chita was a great dancer. Gwen was a great dancer with "star quality": there's that minuscule extra shrug, twist, contraction, facial expression (or lack thereof) that draws your eye away from Chita again and again even though they're both going for perfect in sync movement. Gwen's obviously not trying for anything extra. Plus there's the natural quirkiness of her face and the red hair . . . not to mention her voice. Chita was the faster dancer; Gwen the stronger, but all that is beside the point; Gwen was a star just standing there doing nothing. Chita fans may disagree, but they'll never convince me otherwise. And they were both past their prime here even though they were still better than anything else around.
Chita's stockings aren't up as high as Gwen's. Drives me absolutely CRAZY! If that's the worst thing one can say about this video, I guess...not too bad, huh?

two amazing performers and one amazing choreographer!!! Fossee did so much with the economy of his moves! Some moves so small but so perfect!

Gwen Verdon was at least 50 when she did Chicago. She looks great and her dancing is fabulous!

...and THAT, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how it's DONE.
Absolutely marvelous, now that's what real entertainers are about!
The original Velma and Roxie. Fantastic!
GWEN IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS OF LIVE MUSICAL THEATE
A lot of good dancers have done these parts, but these are the quintessential Velma and Roxie!
Parts 2 and 3 are up. Part 2 has more of the interview. Part 3 has Jerry Orbach doing "Razzle Dazzle" ab the rest of the interview.

Thank you so much for sharing! If I could I would give it a million likes! :)

Wow, Hal Linden!
The ONLY Velma and Roxie!!!💜
(i think they meant they didn't know you personally, so you're still a "who" to them)
also, this is wonderful; thanks for posting it
I'm so jealous. I don't sound or look as good as they do, OR have their energy...And I'm definitely not their age.
The best.
