Good Day Mr. Markus. I think between the pricepoint and ability to lie flat in your case/bag/whatever makes the Neewer a excellent choice (especially if on a budget). But I have to say that your showing and explaining how the different reflectors can add a stop (or so) was great to learn. So apparently and old Dog (like myself), can still learn 'stuff'.... so thanks!
When I first saw this on another UA-cam channel, I immediately wondered what you’d think. Good timing. I’d always thought Neewer was just marketing Godox gear. Clearly that’s not the case (now). Thanks for the review.
Markus, Thank you for your input on the Q4 and the extra tips!! You proved the light has a great performance, and the price is really good, plus Neewer often offers extra discount and that makes my wallet happy 😅
I'd be up for mixing and matching these with my AD200s and AD100s if I needed some extra power for an outdoor shoot or large group. However, the fact that it's not compatible with the Godox trigger is kind of unfortunate. I DO have an R2 receiver, so I can easily add it that way, but if I wanted an additional light (2 Neewer Q4s) I'd have to get another R2 unit. Although they're not expensive, I've just gotten spoiled on not needing to buy receivers for my light since the Godox line has them built in :D BUT for under $400...that's not a bad deal for a light that has almost the same output as the AD600. Good find!
@Marshallchandra Sorry, I misspoke. I have an X1 receiver. Not sure why I kept saying R2. But regardless, the wireless triggers all have a port to connect a sync cable directly to any flash unit regardless of brand so long as you have the right size cable.
Are you sure it's not compatible? It shouldn't be, but i noticed that the user interface, fhe buttons, the display, menu and even the basic reflector and the bulb are the same as the godox ad600pro.. they probably have many same components
been dying to see this review on your site! The neewer light flat design caught my eyes when it came out. I like knowing i can pack several of these in one case compared to the regular bulky cylinder bodies. The only disappointment is the weight. I assumed it would be a couple of pounds lighter but i was wrong:/ But the price point is pretty awesome! Thx for the review!
I've been watching a whole bunch of your videos for video light recommendations. Boy, you reviewed a lot of them over the last year or so! Today, which affordable really bright video light are you highly recommending? I almost bought the Zhiyun Molus x100 but double checked your channel for a review first and I'm glad I didn't! Thanks!!!!
Those reflectors concentrate the light in the center so you get a hotspot. I never shoot with reflectors. Put them in a softbox and and then check the output.
Great video! Does the neewer trigger basically work the same as the Godox pro trigger? Just looked it up, and the Q4 can be optically triggered, so thats cool!
Oh well if there's an optical slave mode for that Q4 it becomes a much more desirable addition to a lighting setup. Who wants to be mixing wireless triggers?
I concur on the ad600bm I upgraded to a pro and I regret it because it has not been any better. TTL is a mix bag. Outdoors bright conditions or at night it gets thrown off. It was on sale and I sold my bm to pay the difference still wonder if the $300 was a good move. It is slightly larger and heavier. Anyways nowadays it stays home. I am using the ad100pro and ad300pro.
Interesting stuff indeed. Got to say that aesthetically, there's something about the Neewer I don't like - but I support it's performance that really matters. But, you mentioned that some Bowens mount modifiers won't attach the the apparent Bowens mount of the Neewer - that's an issue if you have a collection of Bowens mount stuff already and you don't know what will or won't fit.
I have several lights and several bowls and softbox inserts, which are all by Godox and even they are not consistent. Very frustrating. My 3D printer and cutting used coffee cans came to the rescue to fabricate mods.
Godox trigger or bust.... I don't anymore care about OEM flashes and their own triggers, and same is with almost every other. I want compatibility between OEM camera bodies, so I can just keep one flash setup and get one trigger for all. And GoDox does that best.
@@ArminHirmer I still prefer AD200 for the compromise of power and combination to different modifiers. While color balance is not critical IMHO for portraits, it is for product photos where multiple shots needs to be combined and have same colors. AD100 is a great travel flash, but I can't really see the shape of this being so much better when it is boxy one. Great value if one just needs few flashes and doesn't require to play with multiple other devices. I don't remember now how much did the grounded glass help against hot spots in modifiers, avoiding requirement to use double diffuser fabric, but requiring special trigger is just no go for me...
When Cara is shooting the video of you, what is she using? I know that you said you like 1080, and these videos are always so clean, fast focused, and the sound is great.
For the price it's good, but I'm not buying because I don't want to buy a trigger, and then what do I do with my other Godox equipment? If the godox trigger worked with this, I might get one. Also I think that while the total volume is less, the AD600 would seem to pack more easily into equipment bags. Packing this in a suitcase is very niche. In my kit there are "places" where things go, and the Q4 dimensions seem hard to fit in... too wide one way, too tall the other.
I'm a Panasonic owner... can you make it work in Manual mode with your trigger (N, C or S) in any Panasonic or Olympus, that will help me a lot!!! If case that you make it work... can you also try HSS? Thank you in advance....
How well would that reflector work with the AD-B2 dual head for the Godox ad200? I recently picked up a 2nd 200 and would like to get a good output from the dual head mount. I also debated the magmod dual mount set up as well.
Hello Markus, can you use this Q4 with godox trigger ? mine and my friends are heavily invested in godox system but I want to try out this Q4, the only thing I concerned about is can it use mix with godox system ?
Something doesn't make sense to me. Between 5:00 and 5:45 you compare the light outputs of the two lights with the high output reflector. They are both about 32. But when you add the diffuser, the light output on the 6 is barely reduced. But on the 4 it is reduced significantly. Why would that be? Something doesn't sound right.
Oh! If we were to use that with a Godox receiver, would it work with HSS in case that's needed? I don't always like using HSS, but sometimes it's useful. Did you test that out yet?
since the neewer mount doesnt really work right -do you know what softbox to get? .... and sorry if my question doesnt make sense -im not sure where the softbox would actually mount... around the 7" leftfoto
I have two of these Q4s and I have never had an issue mounting any bowens mount modifier to it. I think it's just a matter of taking your time since the mount is recessed into the light.
@@DeMarcusBolds thanks!!! u ever use them for outdoor shoots in the daylight -1 of these 400w bight enough? -do they need to be super close to the subject? also im still trying to decide if i want do a constant light with 300w -will that be bright enough ? any input on the matter is greatly appreciated!
If you're already in another ecosystem, you just have to either dump it and go with these, or add them to your collection. For me, I'm going with these because I don't have any studio lights yet. I'll take the money I save and put it into a good portrait lens for my Zf.
