Been looking for a review of this light ever since Neewer teased it on Instagram ads! Price definitely is a factor for us hobbyists who want to try strobes but don't want to over-invest. Interesting that they are going to come out with a 200w version - i think i might wait to see what that's like since that will be more than enough for my needs, and hopefully the price is cheaper too. Great review!
Got mine for $287.99 when they first put the add out in IG. Works well with the Q3, Z1 and the QPRO trigger. It's definitely all Godox knockoffs. If you're not pulling $2k a shoot stop wasting your money. How many times has a client asked what strobe you use? LOL what camera you use? I'm definitely no pro but can learn with a lot less expense.
Man I was sold on the Q4 until you said it wouldn't work with a godox trigger. If they could fix that then I'd pick up one or two, until then I guess I'll save for the ad400pro
I noticed you had the QPro-S transmitter. Did the HSS work for you? I have the Q3 & Q4 and the HSS does not seem to be working on when shooting with the a6600 and a7m4 🤔 I wonder if it's a fault transmitter...
I was looking at this and the Godox Dp1000III-V ones 400watts and the other is 1000. I can only guess the 1000 is more brighter? I take my photos in doors.
This is a nice, novel, Neewer flash, but nahhh (not yet). I love the form factor, absolutely love both handles (as well as the design influence behind the top one). Wish they went with 5/8"ths instead of 1/4" 20 for that handle mount given the size modifiers people use these days. Kinda seems to be the shell of a premium flash stuffed with cheap flash features (this time), and the idea is that you'll more or less immediately upgrade to the pro once your in the system. Other than just being cheaper, there hasnt been much of a compelling reason to buy into Neewer's flash system, until this one. I'd be more interested in seeing this thing broken down independently. What kinds of design tradeoffs are they making to get it so small? How long might this thing last based on the quality of the electronics inside? Is it repairable? How available are spare parts? Firmware updates? What features can they actually improve in software given the hardware limits, how often might those come out, and will we need a specific OS to install them? What about OlymPentaxians? Things like that are really starting to become more of an issue and possibly could help differentiate some of these companies. Can we also have a conversation about why arent there any open standards for flash sync yet in 2023? Isnt anyone getting tired of having to buy every brand's transmitters? Maybe that's just me. /rant BTW absolutely LOVE your shots with The Gadfather! Congrats.
Very interesting flash for sure! The compact quality make me considering it for my work. I use the AD400 pro and sometimes I won't take it since it's too much cumbersome.
Thank you for this video, so detailed and informative. Do you think the Q4 could be a good solution for photographer that need also a low power flash? shooting at 1.4 in studio it's possible with the Q4?
If I did not already have so many Godox lights I would switch, in the V1, 860V3 and AD200 I feel like they are pretty comparible, but once your ready to step up to 400w Neewer is way cheaper, but I just got the AD600 Pro so I guess if your skipping 300/400w and going to 600w Godox still is a good idea.
Great video, I've got the newer qpro with the q system. But I've only bumbled my way to get it to work. Could you please do a how to use for the trigger. Thanks in advance
Have you gotten HSS to work properly with this light (and Q-Pro trigger)? I've been trying on my EOS-R, and it doesn't work at all. Still see shutter curtain in higher shutter speeds.
The handle is interesting but it should be thicker to be more secure and comfortable to hold. Also, you better believe I'm going to use both hands carrying a light that costs over $400.
You may have more contact with the Brand.... anything about compatibility? Nothing for Olympus/Panasonic? I mean no trigger for Olympus/Panasonic (also Panasonic FF 😅) I guess for manual, you can shoot with Nikon or Canon trigger... but no TTL.... neither Neewer "Z1-O".... 😭😭
Why nobody does like Wescott.... a trigger "to rule them all"!!! I think that in this way, although the development is a little more expensive, the production and distribution costs could be lower and thus benefit the brand.
I would say this is probably good for traveling photography because it's light......i love my godox and i have 3 of them.... doing my own photos with the wireless remote works wonders. ONLY thing im not sure of is if Godox is waterproof but im not trying to test it in the rain either
I will go out on a limb and say the internal triggers are agnostic to brand (Sony, Canon, Nikon). Meaning the hot-shoe mount does not impact the communication between the trigger and the receiver. It should work - I will confirm via another planned short video.
I'm a relatively new photographer in my second year of photography and I have been VERY happy with the Q3. Using it for quick low-profile location shoots has been so nice. It's also my first flash with TTL and the ability to adjust it manually with remote. I feel like I can work like a pro at an affordable price and get good results. All that to say, I'm about to purchase the Q4 to expand my abilities. Thank you for pointing out the color and power issues as I will be on the lookout for them in my results. I heard the Q4 Pro will be 200w? Well, maybe I'll wind up getting that, too, but for now I need a more powerful flash and I'm invested in the Neewer Q system at this point. More experienced photogs told me to go into Godox, but I see Neewer innovating and their products have performed well so far. Thank you for your review video, it was very helpful and well-made.
cool different design to see but that style seems like an absolute nightmare to pack in my bag with my other gear, my thinktank bag holds 5 lenses, ad400, 2xad200 and 2xad300's.
I already have the Godox. I wouldn’t buy this because my triggers and batteries won’t be compatible and I’m happy with Godox. But it is good to see some new products in the space and especially at a lower cost
If this worked with Godox triggers, I’d have gotten one. They should have done this to allow people to have a smooth transition or even see how they feel about it. but to be heavily invested in Godox/Flashpoint to go and switch over to another brand with new “triggers” makes no sense, when they all do the same thing.
Curious if the trigger can be flashed to allow cross brand compatibility since the hardware is so similar. Won’t be surprised if the same manufacturer for Godox made this
What flash system do you use that isn't proprietary? As far as I know the only non-proprietary systems are Geekoto being using Godox's system, and the Raven transmitter (which doesn't even have it's own flash system to be proprietary to).
A Q4 Pro with colour stability might have been of interest if I (and likely many others) wasn't already invested in another system such as Godox IMO Neewer missed a trick by not allowing interoperability with Godox triggers and apropos tigger their trigger seems to be based on a refined Godox one so it's a shame this doesn't work with Godox flashes directly (they sell a separate receiver but who on earth wants all these on their existing flashes, not me). It's kinda sad how everyone seems to always want to go down the proprietary route cause the potential for uptake in an improved verision would have been huge IMO.
Captioning system seems to get a good grip with only occasional mishaps. There is also no music, which can totally block the viewer out, but not algorithm, which can limit itself only to frequencies used in human speech.
I do not trust this brand anymore. They are OEM factory and copy those technologies then make their own version with cheaper material and price point. I had a Neewer knock-off Godox SL60 watt LED, the colour temperature is wrong and flicker like crazy.

There is a twist release Godox trigger. The adorama r2 exclusive
The Godox X2T and the XPro2 do too.
Weird you say you want the lock system for GODOX because your channel reviewed on March the trigger and surpriselly it has same lock system lol
That is 100% my mistake. I totally forgot it existed when making this - YB
Im already in the godox ecosystem. Bro godox has the same locking system on the trigger

would a Godox receiver works with it? 🤔 I don't see a hotshoe to attach it tho :(
Nice to see another system available. Competition only breeds more innovation. I’m happy with godox currently

An outdoor strobe? So is it weather sealed?
Grazie per il video molto interessante. Volevo chiederti se il Neewer Q4 è compatibile con il trasmettitore Godox X2T ? Grazie !

the x2t godox / flashpoint trigger mounts that way and Ive had it since 2019
Hi, Which lapel microphone would you recommend for shooting asmr cooking videos?
Very interesting flash for sure! The compact quality make me considering it for my work. I use the AD400 pro and sometimes I won't take it since it's too much cumbersome.
Hi! Thanks for the informations. Does this Q4 have a fan and a stroboscopic mode?
Can I use a flashpoint flash for this strobe ?

Still prefer Godox/Flashpoint. If you wait for sales you can get Godox strobes for really good prices. Interesting design though.
When are the sales?
@@jessicaversland963right now. Usually wait for Amazon day sales, prime day and Black Friday/cyber Monday.

No godox equivalent?
How do you get 5977-6377K range from a 5600K +/-200K light? Did something go wrong?

How this work with Godox trigger ?
Thank you for the work you do on these videos.
I have four Neewer Z1S's will this new trigger work with them?
If yes, does it have to be the Sony?
I will go out on a limb and say the internal triggers are agnostic to brand (Sony, Canon, Nikon). Meaning the hot-shoe mount does not impact the communication between the trigger and the receiver. It should work - I will confirm via another planned short video.
@@robhallphotoAn update from Neewer.
Yes the Z1 can be used on the Q4 trigger.
No, cannot use my Z1S's on a Nikon Q4 trigger.
Flat shape is not ideal outdoor due to aerodynamics reason. I think I will stick to Godox Ecosystem.

What’s your favorite strobe for a small studio setting?
The 300 pro from GODOX

What I thought it was $330? I still think that it does compete because it is a really cheap portable light for less the competition.
$330 is the current discounted price. We have to judge it on it's full retail price basis since discounts vary too much. - YB
How i wish neewer and godox is cross compatible...
Please tell Neewer that we want Fujifilm Transmitters... i want that Q4, but without the Wireless trigger i cant use it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Isn’t neewer and godox under the same umbrella company by now?
No.
@@robhallphoto OOOHHHH... i thought it was the same manufaturer.... Both company use the same manufacturer for their product! 🤯🤯
