I have a cheap softbox similar to the cheap one shown in the early part of this video. I took it out of its bag exactly once, and fumbled around with it in someone's house. It was awkward and I wound up not even using it. I used the S-bracket with it exactly once. So none of that was cheap, in fact it was a waste of money. If you have a studio, where lights seldom need to be broken down (?) then I can see where cheap = good. That said, if someone has a studio and regularly uses lights, a more expensive folder paid for itself long ago. Dude! So glad I came across your videos. I was about to go down some crazy rabbit holes with lighting.. Thanks man, truly appreciate the no nonsense content your putting out.
Great video. I was in the same boat with buyers remorse over my bulky, clunky S-brackets, that long top screw annoys me to no end. For those of us on the other side of the pond though, this Angler Fastbox is "strikingly similar" to the SMDV Speedbox Flip28G. I didnt want to buy yet another softbox, but these things are fantastic for portability! SMDV by the way sells all kinds of replacement parts and adapters for these boxes, which is handy. That Angle Grip light stand adapter can be purchased separately and they even have square, rectangular, and strip boxes with the same basic design. That said, they'll still have to bury me with my trusty umbrella softboxes, I'll never let them go!
SMDV is built the same way, but has FAR more options with interchangeable accessories between Angler and SMDV. Hard magnetic attached gels, larger sizes up to 43", large strips, 1x3 strips, lanterns, as well as a larger version of this exact design which is their new 32". The 32" is my new go-to lighting setup for a single key light. It's big enough to not have hard lines in the face. They also offer grids, and cost slightly less. Angler is nice but they hardly offer a full range of options.

Amazing coverage as always. My lights and portable stands and lights are super heavy. I never worry about wind but I wish I had seen your show years ago. One of these days I have to switch everything.
I use the Angler Fastbox Pistol Grip on an AD200, then I used the metal back plate of an AD-S17 and a 3d printed adapter ring to attach Godox Mount softboxes like the AD-S60S - nice small modifier and no need for an S-bracket. The pistol grip angle adjustment can't bear the weight of the larger AD-S85 softbox, so I tend to use those with an AD300 or AD360ii (with my 3d adapter)
@@herbrockone5068 yes, the AS-S17 backplate uses the barebulb head, the 3dprinted speedring attaches to metal backplate with the bulb in the middle, and the Godox mount softboxes attach to the speedring - no large bowens mount soft box, no s-bracket.

S-bracket is not the lightest or smallest. But it is sturdy and strong for the purpose. It is excellent when having multiple different lights and that one Bowens mount. But only if you have that extra mass and size dialed in for your flash setups. S-bracket works in studio or indoor location, but not so great for on-the-go. Like traveling.
@@DezSantana there is multiple different "mobile" setups. One can be where your move from location to location and you have couple big wheeled bags. Other is that you go to on-site from the car, so car is near by and you have lot of stuff in the car anyways. Some is that you set up to shoots in many locations in the day, but you still need more than just flash and camera, and you have one bigger bag. Etc. But it doesn't work when you have one passenger bag and you do not have even space for anything else than maybe one small umbrella.
@@paristo I know how the S2 is used. I've had it for years. It's not compact, nor the perfect mobile option. I've used other adapters that worked better. This Angler product is intriguing.
@@DezSantana those don't replace the S-bracket. They are different for purpose. The S-bracket is for other use than when traveling just with one backpack or so. There is reason why studios has different equipment than when going to multiple different on-sites. Sometimes you don't need sturdy, flexible and time saving option because it is heavier and bigger. It is like monopod vs tripod vs string. Monopod is great when you run and gun, when you are moving, but in most traveling cases you just need string. But neither replaces a good tripod. I pack lot of stuff on my car just to be prepared for anything. I have from lightweight solutions to all the way to C-stands, and when I know I need it, I have studio stand as well for the camera. I have tools with me, from saws to ropes to drills etc. Because at any given time I can build all kind supports and get lights to temporal places for the effect. I have even a custom made 33 ft (11m) long monopod with capability to hold 2,4 kg weight straight to side, and it has only 2,8kg mass as made from aluminum, collapsible to just 2,6 meters. Even regardless I loved traveling with just a funnybag size bag, few lenses, flash, batteries etc, you are at best limited to be capable work in any situation. It is just another end of compromise spectrum, and S-bracket does shift it more towards the possibilities.

This is a great video. I like the smallness and how light it looks. Is the adapter for the AD200 the same one for the speedlight? Now do I sell my AD200 and go with an AD100
Hi Markus, I love your obsession with small and light. This fast softbox looks pretty good, as does Cara - excellent as always. One thing though in any real wind (real world outdoors) a small stand with a 28" box is easy prey to wind and a smashed AD100/200. IMO as case of when, not if. This aside from an assistant to hold light/stand how do you ensure no 'blow overs' without adding additional (heavy) counterweight ballast. Even water bags are messy inconvenient and contradict your travel light approach. Just wondering how you deal with this issue?
hey! just subscribed , binged watched your videos ! your amazing bro! thanks for the advice! hey ,I'm new to photography , what type of light stands do you recommend that's cheap and sturdy so the light boxes will not topple over due to wind ?
My favorite strong all around light stand is Norms ua-cam.com/video/mxtEK1f-ZP8/v-deo.html if you're not using big modifiers or super heavy lights, then I use Impact 6,8 or 10 ft stands like the Impact LS8, also featured in this video
I love your videos , but in this case I disagree with you. I prefer the AD 300 because of the soft boxes with Godox-mount, now that's easy and quick and lightweight . With umbrellas AD100 looks great though.

Markus, you've made a video talking about how you find the ad300 has a blue color cast. Many people are also complaining about a ad100 green cast . I was hesitating between the ad100, 200 and 300... I was more inclined to buy the ad300 because of its modeling light... But between no modeling light, green cast, blue cast, I think I'll simply stop photography and invest in video games... :) Since you've worked with the three of them, I'd like to hear you about this... Any opinion/advice would be appreciated :) Thanks!
MarkusPix you are a really cool reviewer, I really like your videos. Tell me please, do you also think that umbrella softboxes are bad (like Godox). It is better to use parabolic umbrellas like ub85/105/130 because they have a long needle where to hang the flash. Therefore, it is better to fill the modifier over its entire area. Right?

@@NeonShores Now I know who is in command! If they are a couple, fine, gratualation! But from the jobs perspective this habit reminds me to a cook that only prepares one dish.
Hey Markus. My experience has been that it is extremely under powered. I was never able to expose for the sky and light up my subject as my shutter speed would have to be around SS500 while my aperture on my 35, 50, 85 being f1.4 or f1.8 whatever the widest aperture the lens allowed me.I even tried to remove the diffusing element from the light, not much difference.
Faster shutter requires HSS capability _just to fill the frame with light_ . regardless of how bright or dim the resulting light is. That's the "sync" part of High Speed Sync. And we know HSS is a huge power draw on the battery and more heat.

But only if you have that extra mass and size dialed in for your flash setups.
S-bracket works in studio or indoor location, but not so great for on-the-go. Like traveling.
Why it stays home in my home studio. Good for staying put. Not so much for mobile.
@@paristo You're not teaching me anything new. I've been doing this a long time. Already know this.
That Angler softbox it is great but too expensive for me:(( thank you !
I find it hard to believe that the AD100 has strong enough to over power that bright sun. I just couldn’t get pass that. 😂

This is a great video. I like the smallness and how light it looks. Is the adapter for the AD200 the same one for the speedlight? Now do I sell my AD200 and go with an AD100
Keep the 200, it's great. The 100 is a great supplemental light to have when you want something small. Yes the speedlight head
i got the angler softbox and was amazed how easy it was
smdv flip branded products = angler fastbox??
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Just wondering how you deal with this issue?
ua-cam.com/video/hz89VIMQZDY/v-deo.html
All good but difference in color temperature of 800 kelvin between Ad100 and Ad300 so difficult to use them together
Brilliant!!! Thanks Marcus!
I immediatly bought in, want to replace my AD200 travel kit with a AD100 based kit, but unfortunatly, this softbox is not availble in Europe 😩
love it, so easy, but i dont mind the cheap one either
hey! just subscribed , binged watched your videos ! your amazing bro! thanks for the advice! hey ,I'm new to photography , what type of light stands do you recommend that's cheap and sturdy so the light boxes will not topple over due to wind
?
My favorite strong all around light stand is Norms ua-cam.com/video/mxtEK1f-ZP8/v-deo.html if you're not using big modifiers or super heavy lights, then I use Impact 6,8 or 10 ft stands like the Impact LS8, also featured in this video
I love your videos , but in this case I disagree with you. I prefer the AD 300 because of the soft boxes with Godox-mount, now that's easy and quick and lightweight . With umbrellas AD100 looks great though.
I am going to start learning flash photography. I want a not too heavily priced, lightweight, portable setup that I can take with me wherever I go to cultivate and continue this new hobby of mine.
What do you suggest?
Hey! thank you for the tips!
Can you PLEASE review Brandon Cole's "Black Dish". It's supposed to be better with the highlights and better color. I know you won't be bias so it would be nice to hear your opinion. Thank you
That's already been debunked by numerous channels including Robert Hall
Alway awesome information 🙌🏼 Quick question what is the brand & link for the light weight plastic universal ash head bracket - stand adapter ? Thanks
This is the metal version www.adorama.com/fpsrbf.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwqoibBhDUARIsAH2OpWhOi7dq5ZEvzFdiPuex3JKszYkEBfciq9xLOyJngpHwjj2fIXDc_BYaApWAEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&
The plastic version came with the old Godox softboxes but you can still get them from AliExpress (with the softbox) www.aliexpress.us/item/2251801219171823.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.5.23804f03qITC9T&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa
It helps to glue washers to the tips so they grab better and don't dig into the light ua-cam.com/video/IQOl0fw5cXE/v-deo.html

Yahoo! Markus why have you never tried any of mag mod gear? It would be great to see how far you could take the?
Well done. Thanks
Here I am, trying to cut my expenses and PUM!!! Markus publish a video and now I want an Angler softbox =(
Great video!!! Adding to the cart! Do they sell “handheld grip” separately?
It comes with a bracket you can use as a handle, but I never need those, I just hold it like a can of soda
The AD100 requires running a power cable to it or are batteries an option? Great video.
No cables, its totally portable
Markus, you've made a video talking about how you find the ad300 has a blue color cast.
Many people are also complaining about a ad100 green cast .
I was hesitating between the ad100, 200 and 300...
I was more inclined to buy the ad300 because of its modeling light...
But between no modeling light, green cast, blue cast, I think I'll simply stop photography and invest in video games... :)
Since you've worked with the three of them, I'd like to hear you about this...
Any opinion/advice would be appreciated :)
Thanks!

Right?
I love umbrella softboxes, I've used them for years

The godox magnetic mount and the grif will cost you about 110$ more but it's still great.
The inserts are only $50 www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?q=angler%20fastbox%20adapter%20insert&sts=ma and the handle is already attached to the softbox.
@@MarkusPix I think he meant grid when he said grif. 😄
I'm with you, brother, I hate S brackets too
👍
Can't You afford another model or does she not allow You to take other models?
Markus has said Cara is the only one he ever wants to shoot. She's the only model he could ever want or need.

That's what ND filters are for :-)
@@MarkusPix Nd or cranking the shutter will result in the same power draw to get a proper exposure.
@GastonShutters…Do you think that the AD200 would have been a better option for the output deficiency of the AD200?
Faster shutter requires HSS capability _just to fill the frame with light_ . regardless of how bright or dim the resulting light is. That's the "sync" part of High Speed Sync. And we know HSS is a huge power draw on the battery and more heat.
Docyou think that stroboss 36 will be enough for annoutdoor photoshoot? In a sunny day? It has a GN 36. Or i need anytong stronger for softbox umbrella?

do you have any videos going over what softbox size we should buy?
