AMAZING REVIEW! PLEASE INSPIRE MORE, FOR SONY NEXT YEAR TO BRING FRONT CAMERA, BETTER SCREEN BRIGHTNESS AND CHEAPER COMPACTS! THANK YOU SO MUCH! CHEERS!
Not really, I think I will stick to my 5 mark 2. I don't think the 5 mark 3 is worth £900, my wife has a Samsung galaxy s20 fe 5g and that is a much better phone than the 5 mark 3.
@@kevinthomas8455 Simply stop BS with Saladsung. You must be frustrated with her, Xperia simply K.O.'s regarding battery and camera quality on S20 with any kind of lag (I test phones with my friends and did this comparison 5II & S205g)! If your p!mp!e sweetie knows how to turn off and on that crap, and for you it's better, so better f-ff with these comparisons, and yes, it deserves its money if you understand how Xperia works! Buy copy-cat tr@s# and stay there! Sony365 it's the best reviewr ever for Sony and Xperia, that really can make a difference! With honest regards!
@@Sabundy So far it's impressed me. There are a couple little software issues. Like the volume automatically lowering on UA-cam videos when you change to landscape mode or the screen powers off. It's a beast performance wise.
had the Google pixel 5 for about a year and a half & hated the battery life and hated how the pictures would come out oversaturated decided to get the 5 iii about a week ago and so far i love it, mostly by it's Raw accurate camera, battery life and performance
I love how Sony still ships with a charger (for now). Hoping they continue to do so. They're the only ones with a headphone jack and stereo front facing speakers and microSD expansion still available.
I love the Passion behind every video. I finaly order my X1III from Germany (to Switzerland 'cause no support here in Swiss) I love the Sony Style Design Tech. I own so much Sony stuff, from Bravia A1-77", ZD9-65" to WH1000XIII, Alpha7II with some lenses, Ps1,2,3,4,5, Recievers, Speakers etc. and of corse all two years a Xperia Flaggship-phone. I hope they will never stop. Thanks for your Videos!
Cheers Raghu my friend. I hope it's useful. Didn't want to be too down on the 5 III, but I guess I was spoiled by the 1 III i was using beforehand. Both super devices. Cheers, Tom 🙏
Just as a sidenote, the "torch" or "flashlight" mode on basically every Xperia phone since the "Z" days has been very weak... however the "Flash" when using it as a camera is very strong. They opt to use little power of the LED for prolong use, as a torch
You’re better off buying a dedicated small torch like a “Little Larry”. If you need emergency light there’s no good reason to trust it to a phone and those non-replaceable batteries.
I have already thought about getting the 1 mark 3. It looks awesome. 5 mark 3 is to me the same phone. Sony wants us to believe they're different. I can deal with not as long lasting battery or a slightly slower processor or the spiffy matte finish. I can accept that! Im getting it for the camera of course.
Here's a tip for making your videos. You can reduce the "echo-y" sound simply by bringing a coat rack into the room (with a couple of coats or other clothes) and positioning it off camera. One on each side is even better. If you want to play with the setup, a good location is to put one in the direction you are talking, which is probably behind the camera.
I'm a Sony fan but so far the prices are just too much but I would love it if Sony will bring back their tablets like the Xperia Z series which was a beauty in design! Imagine that line up only with up to date specs.....that's a game changer and will only add to more competition and innovation!! So if you have some contacts in Sony please ask them to bring the tablets back!!
100% Roman. That'd be just fantastic. Fingers crossed it'll happen. I actually did a while video on that in Panama but the Sony Tough SD card got humid and corrupted, so it was lost :( I'll try again soon as I can get out of this poxy hotel room! Cheers, Tom 🙏
@@akmaldanial4418 with the right specs, Sony can make a great tablet. Other companies are using low budget specs. Only Samsung is making good tablets now....
Mine is coming tomorrow- as a active Sony Alpha shooter (6000 and 6400) I am more excited for this phone than anyone before it! Having the same controls as in my cameras and the same insane autofocus as in my 6400 is just incredible! I've used quite a few different smartphones (IPhone 3GS-5S, Lumia 930 and 950, ZTE Axon 7, Samsung Galaxy S8 and the last two years Huawei P30 Pro) but this is by far the phone I am most excited for! Not a phone for everybody, but a phone for photographers.
Great and honest review Tom! Another downside I notice with these Xperia phones is the lack of camera features that all other devices in this price range do offer, for instance: - No 4K60fps video in 16:9, why? - No continuous zoom between lenses. The sensors are colour accurate enough to make this happen. - No switching between lenses while recording a video - No tap to focus while recording a video - No HDR when using portrait mode, both with front and rear cameras - No "real" night mode. I get Sony's philosophy here, but just add it as a separate option because people just expect it in such an expensive device. - HDR video is some sort of HLG format which should actually be post-edited, but why is it in basic mode then? I wish Sony would use an HDR video mode like all the other brands.
It is official, I ordered this phone from Amazon and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. I was really sold on the 5 ii, but that is a bit more expensive than the 5 iii as I'm writing this, oddly enough. I have no doubt the battery life will be fantastic, I still use the XA2 ULTRA from 2018 and still only need to charge it everyother night roughly. I've never been a huge mobile gamer, but am excited to try alot more of the newer stuff with the game enhancer. Plus, I'm really digging the idea of the 21:9, has I'm watching alot more movies and shows at work on my phone. Sony STILL does not get enough credit for having a dedicated camera button, headphone jack, and not having that awful notch. Really looking forward to more of your videos this year!
@@atypical_blk_guy I did actually! It's been a great device. OLED screen looks soooo crisp and everything runs pretty smooth on it, and speakers are great imo. It does heat up a bit more than I thought it would after a bit of gaming, and side sense is tricky to get working sometimes, but those are about my only minor issues. I do hear Xperia has a new announcement for May 11th though.......
I picked up a 1ii second hand last week and I'm really loving it. Coming from an XZ Premium it's otherworldly. So far I think my only issue with it is the top and bottom bezels are different sizes which just triggers me a little every time I see it- though that's not too different to the asymmetrical speaker placement on the XZ Premium. Edit: you touched on Dynamic Vibration and I broadly agree with you on how surprisingly not-gimmicky it is. That extra kick from the vibration handily makes up for the speakers' targeting of mids/trebles and rounds it off surprisingly well.
@@elhamgharib1070 that's difficult. It really depends what you're looking for. The 5iii is smaller and has a more versatile camera, while the 1ii is larger and has that 4k display. Also worth noting the 4k display thrashes the battery and the 865 isn't as fast as the 888. I find the 1ii a perfect size for me but I'd say I have average-large hands- and I'm not sure if I'm really missing anything in the camera, so if you're coming from something much older like I was, the 1ii will introduce you quite well to having more than 1 or 2 cameras on the back.
I've indirectly surrounded myself with wireless chargers over the years so not having it on the 5 M3 was a breaking point for me. I would gladly give up 4K and the ToF sensor for a longer battery life.
Good point Tom the 5 II is the better option seeing as it can be currently bought at a decent price. There aren't any significant upgrades in the 5 III to justify buying it. Secondly I would have liked to see you address the SD888 overheating issues that all devices that run the SoC have. I have read far too many reports from users who have the 1 III that their devices overheat running basic tasks. Maybe you can address those concerns in future updates. As much as this year's devices are decent the SoC is a no go for me. Maybe next year I might switch to Sony but the Pixel A series is a decent alternative if you want a headphone jack (still no SD card slot or notification light though) but immense savings nevertheless.
Thank you for a great review. Just purchased another 1iii and the new 1000 m4 headphones. My son needs a phone and headphones. I still have the 1ii so he is getting that and the headphones. My wife still has the compact z3 but love's the 1iii with the narrow screen. She can use the 1iii without to much difficulty due to her hands issues and she loves photography. Thank you for your reviews we do enjoy them and find them very helpful for our purchasing. I've just subscribed please keep up the great work and thank you.
Thanks so much for your comment Alan, I'm glad I saw it. It's fantastic that you have all these stunning phones in the family - very impressed! I still have a soft spot for the XZ3 compact - but yes, moving to a 1 III will be a mighty upgrade! And seriously, how amazing are the XM4s?? Love them. Thanks again for your kind words - all the very best to you and your family! Cheers, Tom 🙏
I currently have the Xperia 5 (I had previously the XZ2/X compact, so I'm still following the compact series, I don't like huge phones). Having the Xperia 5 III could be a huge upgrade from my current one. I'd love to see the differences when I'm playing rhythm games on it. But somehow, I kinda want to see a new phone model from Sony 'cause it looks exactly the same as my current one. That's the only thing that I'm disappointed. I just want to feel that I have a brand new phone on my hand. I still don't understand why some ppl want the wireless charging. If I had a phone who does have this feature, I'd never use it. Guess I'm gonna wait for next year. Hope they keep making the compact series 🙏 Thanks again for your reviews!
Wait until Sony changes from those shitty 12mp cameras in their phones. You'll never get the detail that a 50mp or 48mp camera would have. I'm waiting for that change specifically so I can finally get a Sony phone. Right now my Huawei mate 20 pro is still better.
Note in the US the Xperia Mark II models don't support 5G properly. For 5G therefore you really need the III models in the US. Also seems 5 III won't be shipping at least until early October:-(.
Hahahha. Normally UA-camrs do the unboxing, then the review and then an 'after the hype' video. I could've done all three at the same time! Yikes. Hope next year things go more smoothly.... Cheers, Tom 🙏
What about how hot the phone gets? I've seen other reviewers mention that the phone heats up a good amount after like 15 mins of use . Did you find that the phone gets hot as well ?
Got a super duper deal for a like new 5 Mark II for $677 + tax from B&H. Saved me over $650 after cancelling my 1 Mark 3 preorder. Love the form factor, battery life and gorgeous camera photos. Of course it would be nice to have wireless charging and 4K like in my Xperia XZ2 Premium but not a must have. Oh and most of the bugs have been eliminated with almost 8 months worth of updates.
No 5G though. And with new C band rollout at end of year service should be much improved. Also 1080p 60hz screen in 2021 is way outdated. What made you cancel 1m3 order?
The problem Tom in buying mark 3 is if you have issue with the phone you can't walk into the high street and deal with it . It's being sold on Amazon for 1350 euros , it's just a pity its not on carriers
@@tech_edit shame they couldn't do more with the space a bezel provides but so long as it's relatively clear that's not a deal-breaker. Thanks for the response! Any phones you'd liken it to?
That's extremely kind of you to say and i am really glad to have seen your message. Thank you for being part of the sony365 community here! Cheers, Tom 🙏
Seems to be improving though... I genuinely have high hopes for next year. Communication across-the-board within all the Xperia teams.... I'm thinking wearables too.... Fingers crossed 🤞 cheers Tom 🙏
@@tech_edit I really really hope so 🤞. Definitely would love a Sony tablet don't get me started with those Amazon Kindles. Loved the Sony e reader really miss that.
I really don't see the point in having a button for what is essentially a voice assistant. You're right about Sony's software support it really could be better. Great video thanks
The competition with Sony Xperia 5 III (Mark 3) now are the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 for it's price or Google Pixel 5a for usability and this is way cheaper.
love the shiny green color. The only thing one thing that wories me is the heat Snap Dragon 888 causes. I mean, that thing is as hot as hand warmer, my god!
Hello Tom , Do you experience the smaller screen in Landscape mode when watching videos on UA-cam when viewing on your Sony Xperia 1 mk 3 ? . I am getting to grips with using the Xperia 1 mk 3 , But Landscape viewing on UA-cam is poor ...
a month ago, I bought it and I'm happy with it, 'coz I was ready for its cons. I play games like Honkai Star rail and 888 runs good and long with 30fps gaming, with 60 fps I really afraid of using it lol but game runs cool. I film not so often but use it for photo and jeez they are really exciting and true without software postprod in pics. Dope design and 21:9 ratio is looking awesome for me
I second your thoughts, They should look at scaling down the display like they used to do with the compact series somewhere around 5 inches. They were the only ones who did it. Adding to the advantages you also do not need a SIM ejector tool on Xperia phones
The thing is. Given how Sony seems not to know how to move on with their mobile division going on from now the pricing is WAY to harsh. It's not that I'm price sensitive but for that region you get consistently more performance with other devices.
Thanks for commenting. I hear you - and I suspect Sony is banking on the fact that you've got those (almost) unique features like the headphone jack/removable storage/notification light/alpha-esque pro modes etc. I don't see this going mainstream, but it's an intriguing device nonetheless. Been fun to live with but nothing has blown me away quite like the 1 III... Cheers, Tom 🙏
@@tech_edit it is really. It's unique in size still in the current market especially from a size performance ratio. But on the other hand that is niche. And you do spend a lot of cash to get into the Sony realm - for both devices in that matter - and Sony itself doesn't seem to fully back up their mobile division atm. Given that they now don't even tell numbers anymore I hope they don't back out of the business. Because they do build nice devices still. I will opt for a Pixel 6 pro though this time and will never ever go back to a Chinese brand - now with a OP 8T. That was a dire mistake.
The better haptic feedback is a big win for the 5iii. The green colour is also very nice. If i didn't had the 5ii I'd rather get the 5iii but it's not a good enough upgrade to spend that much. I'm still waiting for a ultra device from Sony. A 10iiiu with a 7" 21:9 oled or a proper z3tc replacement (with phone capabilities) is what i want to see from Sony
Is this video recording from Xperia 5 III ? 3:14 And can stars be recorded on video or photo with Xperia 5 III ? I saw in some camera tests it has "difficulty" in low light so I wonder can camera be adjusted because it has many adjustment options in camera pro app. Some smartphones can "turn night into day" photos and capture stars, and I want that ability if I pay above 400€ for phone. I think Xperia 5 III design is almost perfect and most pragmatic in my opinion. I wasted hours on researching Samsung phones and now if 5 III, 5 IV or some other overpriced Sony phone isn't good enough for me I'm back to square one......and I don't have a clue what other brand to choose. 🙆♂😮💨
Thank you for this in-depth and quick review about the 5 III. Indeed, the bloatware and the album are disappointing. I actually have a question about the heat after basic usage, does it heat up that bad like the Z5 series?
No Xperias have had overheating issues since the Z5. I can speak to this because I had the Z3 and like the Z5 it overheated. But then I had the XZ Premium. And that phone never overheated so much as once. Now I have had the Xperia 1 mark ii for over a year and it too has never overheated even once. So it's definitely not an issue on SONY phones anymore and has not been since the Z series
@@Sabundy Thank you for this insight. I had the Z5c, even though it was overheating but I used it for 5 years. It seems that Sony learned from their previous mistakes
@Ab - you'll certainly notice the heating up when it happens but I doubt it'd bother you and it didn't cause one shutdown, which is all I really care about. Bottom line is I wouldn't let it put you off. What @little patience said is (as always) totally right! Cheers, Tom 🙏
Hi, great review. Your helping me decide on my next step. I've always had sony phones since 2012, one of the lesser known features that Sony phones of old is it's medical information program. My question is does this set of exerpira's(1,5 & 10 mk iii's) have the same program
Hi Tom, Tks a lot for your review. I love to do water sports during summer and often take photos under the sun. I am worried about the overheating problem of both 5iii and 1iii. Do you have any comment on this? Would both phones be scorching hot and which one might be dealing with this better?
Thanks for your comment. It's certainly important to be aware of the overall temperatures, I certainly agree with that. If you push the phones hard they'll heat up significantly. That said, we didn't manage to make either phone shut itself down. They both seemed equally hot I'd say. I doesn't bother me and I'd be very happy with either. I'm currently typing this message on my 1 II, which I still love and doesn't get as hot, although it isn't quite as powerful of course. I wouldn't let the heating put you off. Even my S21 Ultra gets extremely hot (my Ultra has the same 88 chipset, not the Exynos). Cheers, Tom 🙏
Sorry Lykan, I missed your message - just caught it now. To answer your question, I would not recommend upgrading from the mk 2. Definitely wait until next year would be my advice! Cheers, Tom 🙏
Same here. I prefer the 1 Mark III. It has everything that its compact version offer and more, unlike the previous ones where you either go for big and no 120Hz display or compact and 120Hz display.
I love how Sony build their phones , however I'm worried that if I'm to purchase a 5iii now I won't get support next year around October . Is there a probability of them extending the support , or rather if I'm to keep it beyond Oct 2023 what could I be facing in terms of updates and security
@@Sabundy hey bro, my 1 III has treated me well and continues to do so as my daily. 👍 I miss Tom and Sony365, so I was reminiscing and saw your old comment, which didn't alert me...
@@SonyEnthusiast it's ok. Sure....it still sucks how things panned out. Sony365 essentially was building a nice community. I think you said Tom now works for Sony? I do wonder if we will ever hear from him again. Hopefully one day someone else will do something similar and make a similar type of channel.
@@Sabundy I hope so. Because I don't have the resources and time to do a full scale Sony channel the way Tom did unless the day Sony recognizes me and sponsors me.
Thanks for the review. I am very interested in knowing more about the heat problem of the snapdragon 888. For normal use such as social media, watching youtube, playing Spotify and taking photos or recording short videos does it also cause annoying heat so it is not comfortable to hold?
i still dont know if the screen size difference is even enough to buy 5. Both of them are tall, so maybe having bigger screen when you cant pocket it anyway would be better?? I wish there was a bigger size difference. Seems like i will have to wait more with my trusty XZ1c. I wonder if video about carry options would be worth the time.
You can't get rid of Call of Duty? On the 5 or the 1? CoD, a game by Activision? After what Activision have been up to recently? And the Google Assistant button can't be remapped? Unfortunately I'm out. There are no no phones that I can buy. So maybe I can just buy last year's model
I hear you re the remapping of the GA button - I have read about 3rd party apps/workarounds but I'm not really wanting to go down that route personally. Also, some users have told me remapping is allowed and baked in, in their areas/regions etc. It's annoying, I agree...
Great detailed review - thanks! How come you don't see this model in all the "recommended androids" articles at all? If you had to choose the best compat, would it be this one, the google one or just the most common Samsung Ultra21? Thanks!
Thanks so much for your comment. I think right now this is the most powerful compact android device on the market. I wish it got more coverage but there is something nice about having a device that is not super mainstream :) Cheers, Tom 🙏
@@tech_edit Well, I listened and actually got me one! Looking great though the data transfer from my old Samsung 9 wasnt working and beside some of the things I managed to transfer using the Xperia Transfer 2, I am still not abling to have all my old apps, layout and so on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Tom have you noticed when people do camera comparisons with the Sony Xperia v Apple or Samsung they use the auto mode and don't even bother with the Pro mode. Have you any videos to show the difference between the auto and pro mode v other top end phones. 👍
battery life is the only reason I'm considering the 5 iii or even 5 IV in the future as 1080p imo looks the same as my current 1440p phone so Idc... I use wireless charging almost exclusively but assuming I wouldnt be having to charge as often as well as be able to charge faster that's becoming less of a deal breaker given legit the rest of the phone is perfect imo. Headphone jack and no notch yes please!
Hi, can I ask the community a question, I have this phone, and love it, but I have a issue with screen. And that is colour banding I've only just noticed it. If I play Apple music you can see it in the background of the album art. As you play music. As a good test if you play running by Beyonce. Which I just did (And I used this test with TV ) you can clearly see the lines of colour in the sea. I was hoping someone else could run this test on there phone to see if this is a bigger problems. Or just mine many thanks.
My xz2 compact is still probably my favourite phone, but I'm partial to smaller phones. I had a monster Samsung, which was unquestionably awesome, but not convenient for a big night out, and really wasn't good in a pocket at all.
I was on the verge if to buy 5 III or wait for the next year but well my phone broke so i need a new one and there is nothing better to choose from really.
Only thing I wish they had was the matte finish, maybe metal sides, and better cases. Although if they bring out a good enough case the finish on the phone won’t matter too much
The 21:9 screen size is really something that imo for everyday use really not suitable. Even for photographing (i have never seen a dslr with such a screen size). Another thing that stopped me bying this phone is that the speakers vibrate terribley when you play music or whatever. And no, it's has nothing to do with the vibrating feature. The whole phone vibrates whatever kind of sound you play. It's really disappointing from sony, such a beautiful design and good camera. I wish they would considerate what sony consumers say and want from them.
Great Videos 👍 Except for a few software problems, I'm very happy with the Xperia 1 III. However, I noticed a strange gray bar (Comparable to banding artifacts) in the upper edge of the display on the home screen. Just a software bug or a defect? When the 120hz is activated, this effect is intensified 🤔
Thanks M Zappa. I've not had that issue you've mentioned. I've not seen anything in the comments here about that either... which makes me think it could be a defect? Once you've tried all the usual reset stuff - if it persists definitely worth chatting with Sony/your retailer. I'm happy that your enjoying the device other than that and hope that you have that issue resolved really quickly. Best of luck. Cheers, Tom 🙏
@@tech_edit Many thanks for the answer ❤️ Curiously, this effect is only available in the homescreen. With my device, it is particularly visible on a black background at high brightness. This problem has already been described by several users on Japanese forum pages, unfortunately without any suggestions for a solution. My predecessor device (Xperia 1 ii) had a similar problem, but not as pronounced as with the successor. I have already reset the device to the factory settings and even carried out a software repair using the Xperia companion, unfortunately without success 😑
It's just Sony UI lol. Not a defect. If u change to a diff launcher u won't have that white gradient bar. Open a pure black image from album or photos and u won't see the bar
Do not worry, this is not a problem with the phone, it is part of the interface design, and it may be removed at any moment with an update from Sony. You can put the night mode and pull the notifications from above. You will find that the problem is not in the screen, but as if it lights up
It was very late, but the pre-order was opened 5 days ago, I think, and it will arrive by two or three weeks when the order is opened, it is the launch date. Indeed, this is Sony 😆
Currently have the 5 mk2 and love every bit of it. However, if I should upgrade, should I go for the 1 mk2 or 1 mk3. Right now, I can get a 1 mk2 for 600$ CAD opened box brand new
I'm watching this on my Xperia 1 III, two things i don't like about this phone, there's no more album application , it's only Google photos, i tried getting one on the play store and the albums applications have ads, real bummer. The other thing is the phone does heat up, I've been on only UA-cam and what's app and the phone is hot, besides those two things i love my phone and the ear buds too, the typing, speed of phone, display, battery life, feel of the phone, finger print sensor, the sounds, and camera are beyond great!!!!
Great to hear that you are happy with your 1 III. It's the best phone out there right now for my money! I hear you re the gallery app, and yes - it does get toasty. Overall though it's definitely a winner! Cheers, Tom 🙏
@@tech_edit it would be a great thing if you can teach us, or give us tips on how to use the Xperia 1 III and 5 III phones to it's max potential, on your podcast
I received an update yesterday, and I searched for the details of the update, because Sony does not write the details of the update and its improvements The problem of the heat of the phone, and indeed after the experiment, I noticed that the temperature decreased significantly After searching, I read that Chinese websites mentioned that the latest update significantly reduced the temperature of the phone
Regarding the updates, if Sony doesn't give long-term support, Sony devices are very open for custom ROMing, and use with the Sony 'Open Devices' program. Perhaps a tutorial/guide on which ROM to pick and how to install one is necessary?
I actually believe thats the reason for why SONY believe that 3 years is enough, despite germany wants to increase this to seven years. I think just because SONY is really good when it comes to help their customers give their phones new life again, even after SONY gives up their support for a device, the support would continue outside of SONY. So could be a reason that SONY think their AOSP-support program is sufficent?
@@youtubeairways8646 sadly Sony has been bad to listen to petitions in the past. I only remember 2 times during the Sony Ericsson days when they actually, thanks to customers, wanting 2.1 when it comes to Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Sony Ericsson Xperia arc/arc S that got ICS 4.0 despite non of the devices should get any. Haven't heard Sony doing the same, yet. It's was the Swedes having control of the mobile company at those times and it was they who started the aosp project from the beginning.
@@Dragontrumpetare I believe that there was a petition for extended software support for the Xperia M in around 2014.. That was successful, if I recall correctly.
That's the video I'm most looking forward to doing, although it's going to be a while before I can do it. If I hadn't have bought an Alpha a7C then I'd definitely get the PRO-I... But... as I have bought the a7C I reckon the 1III would be the better fit for me! Cheers, Tom 🙏
Dude very informative video. Thank you. I would like to know how the camera stacks up with other Android flagships. I see photo reviews all the time and I've got a note 20 but I'm really not that impressed with the photos. I am looking for a phone camera that can take very fine detailed shots. Say of a circuit board or electrical schematics. How do you feel the current xperia flagships would perform in this regard?
I tried one and it didn't feel that different to my one mark 5ii, apart from being a bit quicker. Felt... cheaper in feel but that could be me. Nice intro to real photography if you can't afford right now dlsr alpha etc.
So tempted to move from iphone mini to this or the 1 iii, but torn on which. But what gallery app do you use? That is the major drawback to me, having no dedicated gallery
Been rocking the 1III for a couple weeks now, best phone ever made! Had iphone for 10+ years but I don't regret moving to android, the Google photos app has been serving as a decent gallery app
Thanks for this informative video, I'd like to ask one question, one video on YT mentioned that the 70mm and 105mm lenses produces better quality images on the 5 iii than what they did on the 1 iii, in you experience have you noticed something like this. thanks again
My personal verdict on the Sony Xperia 1iii I've had this phone a lil over 2 months from 1 to 10 rating id give it an 8 outta 10 . Pros super fast ,great camera, refresh rate is awesome with some Disadvantages. My cons with this phone Is as follows, battery life sucks , in order to reduce the drainage turn off 120hz, phone over heats when on videos calls so I wouldn't recommend u use zoom FB etc, i did notice the internet comes and goes i find myself restarting the phone. If u get a case be warned finger print sensor is not the best with case. That's about it any advice !??
Previously, I watch Sony Xperia 5 III introduction video and This video is more delightful than Xperia 1 III Maybe because this Phone is Suits for me. Because it feel as compact as my Phone and it has Monster SoC and Incredible Camera
Hopefully this will be the last video recorded from my hotel room! What do you think about he 5 III - has Sony done enough t get you tempted here?

@sony365 , i don't think the temptation is enough , do you ? Honestly ?
Not really, I think I will stick to my 5 mark 2. I don't think the 5 mark 3 is worth £900, my wife has a Samsung galaxy s20 fe 5g and that is a much better phone than the 5 mark 3.

Thanks so much NT - means a lot to read a comment like yours, thank you. And congratulations on your 1 III :) Cheers, Tom 🙏
He is pretty damn good at it 👍👍👍
How is the Xperia 1 mark iii?
@@Sabundy So far it's impressed me. There are a couple little software issues. Like the volume automatically lowering on UA-cam videos when you change to landscape mode or the screen powers off.
It's a beast performance wise.

I love how Sony still ships with a charger (for now). Hoping they continue to do so. They're the only ones with a headphone jack and stereo front facing speakers and microSD expansion still available.

I hope they will never stop.

yes they should give 5 year software support. this will help with user loyalty in the long term
I have been waiting for this review from you dear Tom 🎉😃
Cheers Raghu my friend. I hope it's useful. Didn't want to be too down on the 5 III, but I guess I was spoiled by the 1 III i was using beforehand. Both super devices. Cheers, Tom 🙏
Just as a sidenote, the "torch" or "flashlight" mode on basically every Xperia phone since the "Z" days has been very weak... however the "Flash" when using it as a camera is very strong. They opt to use little power of the LED for prolong use, as a torch
I miss the Xenon flash on the sony ericsson days 😎
You’re better off buying a dedicated small torch like a “Little Larry”. If you need emergency light there’s no good reason to trust it to a phone and those non-replaceable batteries.
I have already thought about getting the 1 mark 3. It looks awesome. 5 mark 3 is to me the same phone. Sony wants us to believe they're different. I can deal with not as long lasting battery or a slightly slower processor or the spiffy matte finish. I can accept that! Im getting it for the camera of course.
There are very minor differences between this and the 5 ii.
100% it is time for some new Sony Xperia tablets. Couldn't agree more! Hopefully....it's gonna happen. Fingers crossed 🤞
@@tech_edit I would love to use 4k 21-9 with 120hz tablet...that would be amazing.
100% Roman. That'd be just fantastic. Fingers crossed it'll happen. I actually did a while video on that in Panama but the Sony Tough SD card got humid and corrupted, so it was lost :(
I'll try again soon as I can get out of this poxy hotel room! Cheers, Tom 🙏
@@tech_edit yes since android doesnt do really well in tablet division. I really hope Sony will stand again.
How is it after a year?
Great and honest review Tom! Another downside I notice with these Xperia phones is the lack of camera features that all other devices in this price range do offer, for instance:
- No 4K60fps video in 16:9, why?
- No continuous zoom between lenses. The sensors are colour accurate enough to make this happen.
- No switching between lenses while recording a video
- No tap to focus while recording a video
- No HDR when using portrait mode, both with front and rear cameras
- No "real" night mode.
Did you get the 5iii? I'm seriously considering it over the pixel 6 based on all the reports about bugs.
What about battery life
@@adelioskampos8090 Battery life is stellar on the 1ii! On a day of heavy use I'll get 4-6 Hours SOT, and on a light day, 7-9 Hours SOT.
@@camjkerman thanks bro for your testimony, Enjoy it!
Hi there, I can now get either this or 1 ii at the same price. Would you recommend 1ii over this? Thanks
The 5 mk. III does compromise on 4K already.
How's the battery life on 5 M3?
Got Xperia 5 II and it's great! Got it when the seller is selling at its lowest price XD
Really informative !! Was looking out for 5 III and save the day
I love how honest you are on your reviews!
Too bad he's gone and this channel is dead 😭
Great review style, lots of useful information. Much appreciated.
Hope they keep making the compact series 🙏
Thanks again for your reviews!
Can't wait to get this early summer!
Hahahha. Normally UA-camrs do the unboxing, then the review and then an 'after the hype' video. I could've done all three at the same time! Yikes. Hope next year things go more smoothly.... Cheers, Tom 🙏
For me the 5 III would be perfect
What about how hot the phone gets? I've seen other reviewers mention that the phone heats up a good amount after like 15 mins of use . Did you find that the phone gets hot as well ?
Only if the phone connected to the charger and you're using it at the same time.
I wanna make this my main phone for the next 5 years seriously. I get nunthing against the 1 iii but this one right here is more my speed.
Lucky me as a Swede, that do have carriers that sells these devices. :-)
How's the selfie camera? That was meant to be a big weakness of the mk2
Average at best. Not good for selfie lovers. Just about good enough for Zoom calls etc. Needs improvement! Cheers, Tom 🙏
@@tech_edit shame they couldn't do more with the space a bezel provides but so long as it's relatively clear that's not a deal-breaker.
Thanks for the response!

Great review and verdict video, Tom. If someone wants a taste of Xperia, this would be the phone to start with. Take Care.

Hey Tom, great review!
Are the speakers drastically better on the 1 mk iii or is it only noticeable at those higher volumes?

From the looks of it, Sony has a great team of people doing great things, but do not communicate well with one another. Lol

Hello Tom ,
Do you experience the smaller screen in Landscape mode when watching videos on UA-cam when viewing on your Sony Xperia 1 mk 3 ?
Dope design and 21:9 ratio is looking awesome for me
I was thinking to get the 5 mark ii, but cant find it in the netherlands. I find 1000 euro just to expensive for this one

Keep in mind that you’re paying Japanese wages when you buy these, not Chinese ones.
I wish Xperia computational photo is better, but I take SD Card and headphone jack anytime over it
The better haptic feedback is a big win for the 5iii.
Did u used 5lll with a tripod? is there Space on the right Side for tripod clamp?
Is this video recording from Xperia 5 III ? 3:14
And can stars be recorded on video or photo with Xperia 5 III ?

Hi Tom, could we get a review on the Xperia Ace II ? It's the most compact phone sony makes at the moment.

battery life is the only reason I'm considering the 5 iii or even 5 IV in the future as 1080p imo looks the same as my current 1440p phone so Idc...
I heard it overheats rapidly by using the camera pro app. Is this true?
Only thing I wish they had was the matte finish, maybe metal sides, and better cases. Although if they bring out a good enough case the finish on the phone won’t matter too much
The Xperia 5iii has aluminium sides
long live my xperia 5
I have already reset the device to the factory settings and even carried out a software repair using the Xperia companion, unfortunately without success 😑
is it possible to know which softwares? I'm curious. I don't like other phone design with notch or punch hole cam.
You will find that the problem is not in the screen, but as if it lights up
Ist the Xperia 5 III , Worth to buy in 2022 ?
Persistent in asking this question
Does it have Xperia Answering Machine feature?
When, for God's sake when, will this phone be available?
M C Good question. It was announced on 14th April! This is terrible marketing from Sony. I am an owner of the 5ii btw. It's just totally baffling!
It will be available when they announce the 5 iv lol
@@s89kw i haven't recovered an update, are you from USA ? I am
@@Dizzy160 I received an update for the global version, Hong Kong, I think version usa He did not arrive yet
@@Dragontrumpetare perhaps a petition through XDA Forums would work?
@@youtubeairways8646 maybe i missed that one, because I never had one.
I like the 5mk3 but just took to long to get out. Same with the 1mk3. Need wireless charging these days
Nothing is more pocketable then my 5 SE, but i'm thorn to comeback to Sony, just waiting for comparison between Pro-i vs 1mk3
Camera is it the same like 1 III?
Does the 5 mark II have a duel sim card capability?
I tried one and it didn't feel that different to my one mark 5ii, apart from being a bit quicker. Felt... cheaper in feel but that could be me. Nice intro to real photography if you can't afford right now dlsr alpha etc.
Totally agree
And what's the real difference with the MK2 apart from the processor? For a regular user (photos, internet browsing and UA-cam) is it worth the mk3?
I would really consider this if Sony makes the design similar to the 1iii.
I use the old gallery app with apk!
Previously, I watch Sony Xperia 5 III introduction video and This video is more delightful than Xperia 1 III
Maybe because this Phone is Suits for me. Because it feel as compact as my Phone and it has Monster SoC and Incredible Camera
overheating problems ??
