Discord somewhat deserved to be in. He became a fan favorite, and seemed to be a permanent fixture anyway, for at least the newer shows.
To be honest, if someone just randomly dropped a script on me day-of and asked me to read, especially if I needed time to understand the humor of what I was reading, I'd be a little rude too.
I can whole-heartedly agree. You need to give notice so the person knows what is going on and can read and then say this is material I am willing to read. It is very rude to just ask some one to come over without proper material or have finished to give the person time to catch up. I would feel like I was personally sabotaged into reading something that I didn't know about that day and then everyone booing me because the people who invited me advertised it otherwise.
Especially in front of large group of people and dyslexia. As dyslexic myself you need to have time and patience to read something. And something like a panel is not enough time.
as an actor always hate when I practice a monologue then get to the audition and they want only a damn Cold Read..it doesnt give us anytime to come up with a character or backstory. it sucks and it just shows how lazy casting agents are getting
Especially since FIW isn't really that great.
Just my opinion but they aren't funny to me. TBH UFP is more funny than FIW.

My personal theory is that John might be feeling like some of the fans do - that the show ended and came full circle, and that's a good point to leave it at. It's just a closed chapter, and reprising his roll, doing more of it at this point, might just be superfluous.

Plus Pony Life was pretty obviously just thrown together to keep selling toys while G5 was in production (it turned out somewhat better than one would expect given that, but still...). It's rather understandable that big-name actors might not be too interested in it.
Discord’s design is pretty adorable and it’s kind of frightening.
I saw a comment about how his head looks like a mushroom, and I can not unsee it now.

As someone with Dyslexia I can 100% understand the frustration and anger that would come from having to read something so fast and unexpectedly!
Honestly, I don't blame any of the actors/actresses for being bitter towards the toxic portion of the fandom.

I can accept the fact that John decided not to reprise his role on the new show of his own free will in the same way Cathy did for her role.
As for Jenny’s comments about the actors being rude publicly and privately , I ‘m not sure where that came from. Getting a script last minute and doing a cold read of it is not an easy thing to do, especially live in front of a convention panel puts even more stress on the guest(s) participating.

Again it is hard to comment on the incident. Can't blame John for not voicing discord in pony life. The fact he voiced Discord in MLP was the hook that got me into the show, but pony life is a different show and one that I'm not keen on.
Peter New is doing a pretty solid job as Discord in this show. Plus, it's kind of fitting to have the voice of one of Discord's closest friends play this version of the character.
Heck, considering all of Applejack's fourth-wall breaking in "Pony Life," I can imagine these shorts being her way of telling stories to some pony. Maybe she could've gotten Big Mac to play Discord in these stories, if this were the case.

Hello everyone! This is NDLMongoose, I've played the role of Discord in some videos for KP on this channel. I agree with most of the points KP makes here. A key thing to know about John's initial involvement in the series is that Discord was intended as a one-time antagonist, and for John, the initial two parter was just a job. Any involvement he had in the series or its fandom after the fact was probably never part of his scheme of things. However, for an older man who probably never had any interest in My Little Pony at any point in his life prior, the effort and time he gave to the fandom shouldn't go unwarranted. The documentary he kickstarted and helped produce shined a unique and ultimately positive light on the fandom as a whole. He's done more than enough for the show, and its community as a whole.
Overall, while it's definitely sad to not see him in this new series, Peter New's interpretation of the role certainly isn't bad. Maybe John simply wanted to retire the role now that he's 71 years old, and was content enough for the main series to be a hallmark of an otherwise successful career. Finally, to piggyback off the genie role segment of the film, Robin Williams retired from the genie after the first Aladdin film BUT he did reprise the role in the third direct to video movie! We may still see De Lancie as Discord yet!
Good video! I was shocked with the difference in portrayal in Fluttershy, but honestly it kinda made me like Fluttercord better. Unhinged Fluttershy is fun. Also I really like Peter as Discord, he did a great job. This is probably the only episode of pony life I’ll watch, because as a whole it just really isn’t something I enjoy, but Discord’s animation style was really cute!
That information on John is new to me. Poor man 😔.
As a disabled discord fan, I really get why he was so salty about that.
That honestly just seemed unprofessional to do to him to me. Especially if he is dyslexic.
I’m in forensics. It’s a speech sport thing. I’m given a script. I have to memorize it, then I will compete with other people by delivering it by memory in a certain time limit in front of judge. It’s hard. But I’ve gotten 3rd place in my category at least.
(I had to memorize a 8 minute speech about the benefits of fanfiction.)
To have a script thrown at you like that and be told to read it in such a large crowd for the first time will make me outright quit.
Sry for the large comment, but I felt I had to say that. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Kim.
KP herself has mentioned in the comments that directly contacting John in advance about the script wasn't an option, so the convention staff SHOULD have passed on advance warning about potential problems. Obviously, they did not. I still consider Jenny at least partly at fault considering she should've "done the homework" beforehand to anticipate this problem, but the convention staff also have blame for the breakdown in communications that occurred.

My favorite Discord fan actors in order are: Big Apple Pie( who played Discord in Bride of Discord Episode 1-9), DaWillsinator, and NDLMongoose (especially if he is playing a freaky Discord. He played him in one of Scribbler’s readings that I can’t remember but he was very good in that since Discord took out Vinyl’s tongue)
I loved old Discord. But I can't wait to see how new Discord goes. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I believe one of the potions Fluttershy drinks in episode 1 is supposed to be a size change potion. The scene was featured prominently in the Pony Life previews with Fluttershy growing out of Sugarcube Corner, but didn't make it to air in the actual episode. I'm guessing it was cut for time, without the editor realizing it was important to future episodes, even if it was only a throwaway gag in episode 1.

And why is that. Why do you treat someone dislexic better than ordinary. So he can be rude, but other normal people can't?
@@sttv47 I just said it gave me sympathy for him. Having a disorder like that can be traumatizing, and often people can react in not so pleasant ways to cope. I feel sympathetic towards it.
And plus just because you’re a fan of a character doesn’t really give you the right to push that VA just because you’re really excited
Hey! I have dyslexia and it has literally zero impact on how I treat others, my frustration, patience, and ability to interact with others. John has been consistently rude and condescending to fans. He got frustrated he wasn’t able to make money off of his fans.
@@haleyg8387 listen I didn't watch the video of John I was just saying I get feeling frustrated especially when it comes to brain wiring stuff. And yes I understand that doesn't always make it okay to treat others a certain way but I still feel sympathy for the situation (especially if somebody did something shitty first like how it was presented in the video)
As a die hard Star Trek fan who’s favourite character is Q I feel I’m more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m dyslexic and when faced with the same problem I’d probably crack jokes that would come off as rude to cope with embarrassment. Not being able to like read well is a hard thing to like admit to people

Robin Williams actually liked the character, the movie, and got into the spirit. DeLancie never watched an episode, and hates the fans lol. No correlation at all.

It's like i said, sure Peter New is no John De Lancie but he pulled off the role of Discord pretty well his first time, and what makes Fluttercord different in Pony Life from how it was in G4 is that in MLP G4 Discord was shown to have feelings for Fluttershy, whereas in Pony Life Fluttershy seems to have feelings for Discord.

Pony Life is weird because it assumes you watched Friendship is Magic and just doesn't fill anything in if you didn't. It's like some FiM events happened in the Pony Life world and other didn't. And also the world is different with modern technology. It's such a strange concept for a show.

I think that the last few eps of the d o l p h i n story arc of Pony Life have really strengthened the "inside the mind of chaos magic Pinkie Pie" fan theory (at least for my headcanon,) because the characters being out-of-character for comedic value is exactly the kind of thing the Pink would write (I think)

When I found out that Discord was being voiced by someone new I admit I was a little upset. It's hard to not associate certain characters with certain voices. But I'm gonna give Big Mac a try and I hope to hear about future projects that John works on in the future.

OMG This video is simply amazing 👏 Great job, The voice work is stunning and the art with the graphics are awesome. : ) I know the Fandom isn't perfect but I believe there's more good than bad. Even though our idols or heroes may not understand our their fans I still believe they care about us like a dad with his kids they sometimes may not know how to show their emotions but they still care if not they wouldn't even be part of our lives. As someone who has dislexia I understand we’re John is coming from heck I do live streams and currently I’m streaming the legend of Zelda twilight princess and as most of you know zelda has a lot of text in it heck zelda basically helped me get better a reading long story anyway I do agree that it is disappointing that John left the role but I understand

Perhaps like Cathy Weseluck, John de Lancie thought that that was the right thing to do. We will remember Discord as a character for G4. This was the kind of a role that John is good at (adventures, magical powers etc.) and Pony Life is more like a comedy. And if John wants to remember Discord with G4, I totally understand him. Let's not forget that Pony Life is totally different from Friendship is magic, like a new show.
And I can't agree with people who say that he is rood. As I know, John de Lancie has done what he could for the show AND for the fandom (especially the documentary). But everybody has limits, he can't always be pushed from the fans.
Anyway, I am really impressed of him. And thought he doesn't voice Discord in Pony Life, he is still THE Discord.
You stated things very well. I watched Jenny’s video and initially was upset upon hearing how her experience with John was. This video put much more context behind that, though. It helps to be better informed going forward while attempting to finally finish the series. Thanks for making this and clearing some stuff up!
I love your other non-MLP videos, KP. Also, if it makes you feel any better, I have had less-than-pleasant interactions with Power Ranger and kaiju fans at conventions and can fully understand how grating they can be to character actors and celebrities.

Not at all interested in watching this show, but from what you described it sounds like they reversed fluttershy and discord’s relationship. So now it’s fluttershy being all, Discord is MY Friend, I don’t care what He wants as long as he pays attention to me!

I'm happy for your insight on this. This whole video was nothing more but a trip down memory lane. So far what's left of the fandom is musicians and artists. The pmv scene is pretty much dead, the popular VA's are either in hiatus or moved to professional dubbing for animes, the more popular reviewers except for a small few has moved on and there's occasional pony animations from both new and old animators.

Honestly if Discord had like a brother or something, I can imagine Gilbert Gottfried would be the perfect VA for him, maybe they could have had him depicted as a "Wolpertinger", which kind of looks like a creature of chaos if you ask me, and they could have had it where Discord was more into the nonsensical mischief aspects of Chaos, while the Wolpertinger was more into the Pointless Destruction aspect of Chaos, so Discord & his brother wouldn't exactly get along very well, and Discord would have had a better reason to wish to have friends, and be more likely to become a good guy if given the chance.

So as someone who is a highly functional dislexic that cold script reading sounds like my worst nightmare. I came from a school system that did not even recognise dislexia as a disability untill after I graduated High School. I remember taking something called a dibbles test where you had 5 min to read a passage out loud while the teacher marked every mistake you made and then you answer questions about it. The test were suposed to measure your ability to read and comprehend. I was told in 3rd grade I would probably never get past a 2nd grade reading comprehension ability and was thrown in a remedial reading class. It was all utter crap since how well you read out loud has nothing to do with reading comprehension (fun fact I sugested hiding the dam timer and this improved every other kids score on the test but mine because I knew what they were doing.) My mother took it in her own hands to teach me how to read and it became a passion of mine and I ended up getting 35's on the reading portion of the act. To this day I would not feal comfortable reading out loud to a crowd expecialy not a cold read that required comedic timing. I can not imagine how much worse it would have been for someone who grew up in a time where dislexic kids were generaly considered downright retarded and unteachable. Even a few years ago I still had a teacher tell me that I was smart and then asked me how to spell something he could not in front of the whole class. I told him smart and good at spelling were not mutually exclusive and to ask spellcheck but the idea that to have trouble spelling or reading being senonomous with being stupid is still very prevelent. To overcome so much and then have to disapoint fans by giving a bad preformance in a situation like that... If it were me I would have been ready to take down the building and the education system along with it.

I for one can understand how hard it can be sometimes to be in a community like this sometimes. It could lead people to say some things that maybe they don't mean because of the heat of the moment. I'm not super mad at John's reaction after that situation. I don't mind him leaving and i can get used to new voices since I have for years and i have watched gen 3 and i had to get used to the completely new gen 4 series as a kid. I just want people to like the roles they play because if not, it doesn't seem all that worth it.

It's technically great for him, because he will be remembered for the beautifulshow that is MLP:Fim and not Pony Life (not that it's bad but because it's really a weird show)
At one of the ponyville ciderfest conventions John went and during his panel he said he doesn’t actually watch mlp he just came in do his lines and then that’s pretty much it, he said I don’t know much other than what his lines say but yeah. I think he chose to not voice discord again after the show ended for PL, still prefer John for discord over Peter
