My mind was blown by how many familiar character actors are just pouring out of ever frame.
The megadeth song makes so much more sense now
\__/
Oh boy, this one freaked me out as a kid, when the astronaut's head comes off and floats towards the camera. I watched it later as an adult and was surprised that it was considerably less graphic than I remembered, my kid brain had added in loads of detail that was never really there.
Good Bad Flicks: "They translated the alien language."
Me: And discovered IT'S A COOKBOOK!!!!! 😂😂😂
4:49 Possibly I've seen too much.
Hangar 18, I know too much.
Rust in Peace
Bonus points for any Megadeth references.
\m/
The timing was great. Just when I thought it wasn't going to happen.
The helmet removal thing was Prometheus. The Alien: Covenant crew didn't even bring helmets.
But Danny McBride wore a sweet Stetson. We all know how practical cowboy hats are in outer space.
I remember when Kolchak discovered aliens. It was the episode titled "They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be..."
I'm going off of my memory here, but I recall Dave Mustaine said once in an interview back in the 90s that Nick Menza was the lyrical source of inspiration for the song Hanger 18. Menza was the guy that was really into the Hanger 18 story and basically believed most of the conspiracy theory stuff surrounding it. Some sources credit Menza for the lyrics, others say that Dave wrote the music and lyrics. I don't have an original copy of the CD any longer to reference.
Dave joked about Nick's UFO obsession a bit in the early days, but he became less respectful of Menza later on. After Nick was out of the band, Dave did an interview on a radio show describing how Nick claimed Jesus was an alien that could levitate or something to that effect. It pissed Dave off, and Mustaine said he knew it was the beginning of the end for Nick Menza in Megadeth. Of course, Dave is a volatile guy that's been known to bend his version of the truth into something he finds palatable. I respect both of these guys as musicians, and I don't trust Dave's drug fogged memory to be accurate or charitable.
Peace.
That's the interview I remember as well. The first bit anyway, I'm not familiar with anything said after Menza left the band.
This is the interview 🤘 :

GBF: Remember that time Kolchak...
Me: YES!!!
Pity more was never done with the character. An everyman news reporter trying to make sense of the inexplicable (like a Dollar Store Fox Mulder). Nothing more apropos of the times.
@@quintessenceSL Darrin McGavin did get a guest spot on The X-Files as a former FBI agent (and one of the originators of the X-files) that was a clear nod to Kolchak. Apparently they'd earlier tried to get him for Mulder's father.
Hangar 18 was a staple on cable TV/HBO in the early 80s. I must have really gotten a hoot out of it, because...I got the paperback novelization! And I still have it to this day!
If a squeal was ever made they could call it "Return to Hanger".
@Dolf Dogeler Yes it is. The 2001 Megadeth album "The World Needs A Hero" features the song "Return to Hanger", which is a sequel to the 1990 song "Hanger 18" from the album Rust In Peace.
Sorry for the lengthy response. I just really like Megadeth.
@@Duran13XIII hey, you're only human!
@@Duran13XIII @ 4:47 cecil quotes some lyrics. : )
Hangar 18 has some of the best Megadeth solos IMO. \m/
@Dolf Dogeler He's great but I still like Chris Poland better.
Rust In Peace was one of the best albums for the time. Still listening after all these years.
@@willythepeachfacelovebird Best thrash album of all time, at least in my opinion
So happy this channel is back in form. One of the best on UA-cam.
Good to be back :)
Please, please, PLEASE do something about "V: The Miniseries", "V: The Final Battle" & the subsequent 1985 series!!!
It's on the list.
Oh man! I was just looking to watch the whole thing again!
I've only ever seen parts of parts, or at least that's my memory of it, so I wanted to watch the whole thing because I did like it.
Hope I watch it before I see it on GBF.
Came looking for a Megadeth reference.
Wasn't disappointed.
I aim to please
Hangar 18 is a 1980 movie. And a 1990 Megadeth song too!
I loved Darren Mcgavin in The Night Stalker series. Thanks for this video.
The fact that the "the people in the spaceship survived" thing is just told to us via voice over right before the credits gives me the impression that it was a last minute change.
Movie: "Bannon County, Az"
Me, who's lived in Arizona all my life: "LOL, no."
Lastly, "Will Sasso" is actually Stuart Pankin from "Not Necessarily The News".
I can always tell folks were around my age when they recall that show from HBO. Sniglets everyone.
@@dbsommers1 TO this day I someone times run into "Kawashock"--when you think a parking space is empty only to find out there's a motorcycle parked there. (-:
I was waiting for a Megadeth mention. Was not disappointed.
Cecil uploading again is the best comeback of 2021.
Now please bring back the "Best and Worst Movies of the Year" videos, those are among your best. Really looking forward to you Best Movies of 2019
Clicked this in anticipation of a Megadeth reference, glad you delivered
I saw what you did there at the end before the credits, and I Love It! 👍
I started starting the breakdown before end the song. Lol
Lou and Steve sounds like a great tag team. We need "Adventures of Lou and Steve."
"Not quite Burt Reynolds" Now I've got to clean my keyboard again, thanks GBF for that, btw, anyone else notice the cast is basically your Hollywood Squares/Love Boat lot of cheap suits and campy acting? Kolchak approves.
You are welcome! It did have a very "made for tv vibe". There were even a few spots that felt like they were made for commercial drops.
Now I have Marty Friedman solos running through my head all night.
I'm OK with this.
That megadeth lyric caught me so off guard I almost spit out my water. Haha.
The Megadeth references were ace, but I was expecting the line "Computers crash and they all fall down". I know it's from the sequel song but it seems to fit this movie.
I'm a long time Megadeth fan and the song is still one of my favorites. I had no idea this movie existed or that the song was about it, Hangar 18 I didn't know enough lol.
Me too. I always assumed Hangar 18 was a conspiracy theory similar to Area 51. Didn't realize it was based directly on this movie.
Hopefully you can do Invasion USA before the end of the year, I also hope you do Monster Squad this year for Halloween.
@Dolf Dogeler Cecil did a review of Silent Rage almost two years ago.
Never heard of this film until you uploaded it. However this morning, I was playing Sain’s Row 3, and got to a mission titled “Hangar 18 1/2”and thought to myself: “wonder what that references?”
There are no coincidences
somewhere the X-files theme is playing
This is the epitome of "Hey it's that guy!" This has EVERY generic white middle-aged actor. in it. Their combined IMDB totals in the thousands of movies.
My God, you're right, there are a ton of these guys in this movie.
HA! I was doing the same thing! "HEY! The Dad from Teen wolf!"
Did....did you just imply that Darren McGavin was "generic"???
Props for the Megadeth references!!
Great video! Glad you brought up the connection to Megadeth. I’m actually seeing them in Chicago in about 2 weeks and so far (coincidentally), they’ve been opening this tour with Hangar 18!
You know you have to do 'Capricorn 1' next, if you haven't already done it.
Yes! A megadeth reference!
Nipple bombs 😂 😂😂😂😂😂
Another funny ass episode Cecil!!
:)
I'm always so consistently stoked to see you upload new stuff
:)
GoodBadFlicks "Kolchak : The Night Stalker" reference nice.
Director James L. Conway later revisited the concept when he filmed the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Little Green Men". In that episode, characters travel to 1947 Roswell where their ship is stored in Hangar 18
Megadeth lyrics. Sweet
Another fantastic video. Cannot wait for your next "Exploring" video!
Great video Cecil, as always, and another oddball movie for the watch list.
I love You even more now knowing You are a fellow Megadeth fan!
Chef's kiss for the cryogenics line. You saw your opening and took it. That's what champions do.
\m/
GBF: The Space Shuttle blows it's nose:
Me: died from laughter.
That is Captain Macauley Mustache to you!
LOL - like 90% of these movies, I remember seeing as a kid: commercials for them, or rented from the video store (with their insanely cool but often misleading video tape cover art) or shit, watched on HBO when it first came out. I remember the HBO guides (like tv guide obviously but for HBO even more obviously) that came out monthly, and would come in the mail a few a week or so before the end of the month featuring the next month's movies. This one I remember like Wavelength, Invaders from Mars, and Strange Invaders. I remember vaguely enjoying it, but in terms of nostalgia...hits the mark. As these movies looked a lot less cheesy at the time, especially to a middle schooler. Fucking V and V the final battle man.

oohh
Perfect timing, just rounding out a bank holiday. Many thanks for your time in making these.
:)
excellent video as usual. my watchlist has grown considerably since finding your channel all these years ago
Ok i lost my shit when you added the "Ow my balls" bit as what the Aliens have been watching.
The clip from Idiocracy killed me 😂😂
Never stop making these videos, it makes my day every single time 😎👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Thanks for covering this one. I still remember my dad renting it for me (on Betamax no less!) when I was a kid. I'm not sure if I even finished watching it because it freaked me out so much. I remember one of the big draws being Teen Wolf's dad being in it which means it would have been several years after its release that we were renting it. Appreciate the trip down memory lane. :)
No problem, glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff as always. Glad to have you back man. Best wishes. DG
Much appreciated!
OMG! Do I have a story about this movie! It was my first introduction to "marketing movies" under different titles. I think I was around 11 or 12 when I rented it under "Hanger 18" at the local mom and pop shop "Video Wizard" (this was B.B. or "Before Blockbuster") bought it home, watched it with my dad and was BORED TO TEARS. After bringing it back to the video store, maybe about a month later, I stumbled across the box for "Invasion Force" and thought it sounded cool so I sat down with my dad to watch it and low and behold it was (as you mentioned) "Hanger 18".. For some reason my dad insisted we watch the damn thing ALL OVER AGAIN! Man, it was such an insufferable bore! Thank God for MSTK3000! Another great vid my friend and WELCOME BACK!
If your dad had to suffer through it, you had to suffer through it too.
You got off easy, my stepdad would’ve taped me to the chair, pressed Play on the vcr, and gone out for a smoke.
Dude I love you. I'm subscribed to a shit load of channels, and always feel chuffed when you upload.
Much love from a lockdown in Australia
Awesome, thanks! Wishing you the best down under, I know its been extra crazy lately
Nice! You were in rare form for this one. I needed a laugh and you delivered; props.
GoodBadFlicks always makes Monday night fun!
Saw this on VHS when I was a kid. Also, Hangar 18 was the 2nd song at my 1st concert almost 30 years ago
Watched this again recently I still love it 😊😊😊💖
I absolutely loved this movie as a kid, even though it scared the hell out me. “Ohhh! He said the thing!!!”
As always a hilarious, entertaining and interesting look at a forgotten movie. Fantastic stuff as always Cecil.
excellent writing. laughed like 15 times. sooo goood. Thanks!
You are welcome! :)
Dont ever stop uploading, Cecil. Please.
Lots more to come :)
Love the video! Would love to see one a favourite from my childhood, firewalker.
Thanks for brightening my Monday today! 😁👍
Any time!
Yay!!!! Finally, a dose for the week. Now I can sleep in peace. Thank you GBF.
My Mom (RIP) was an extra in this movie for about 5 seconds. She walked into a bar, sat down, and lit a cigarette in the background. We lived in Big Spring, TX at the time. It's great to see you covering this one, Cecil. I had to watch it a lot as a kid. lol
Thanks for the info! Sorry about your mom.
Lol, I was singing that Megadeth song to myself the whole time until right before you said it while thinking to myself, "hey wasn't that on MST3K?".
SUBSCRIBED!
huh, somehow this seemed more epic when I saw it in the theater as a child. lol well, live and learn. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
I saw this when it came out on VHS rental back in the day and thought it was pretty dull. It felt too much like DADS IN SPACE!! :-)
lol dads in space
I like my dad, which is probably why I like Hanger 18
Hanger 17 can go screw itself.
13 minutes till clock in time at work. Cecil, you rascal!
Thanks, Cecil. The tech shown in this movie is about half a step above an 8-track player.
My favorite moment of the week, a video from Cecil =D
:)
Will sasso.
Now there's a name I haven't heard in awhile
unless the alien ship is a tardis there is no way it hasa that much room inside and even less a 2nd floor
Great episode! Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do!
What a cast!
Love this channel
Thanks!
🎶 "Possibly I've seen too much. Hangar 18. I know too much!" 🎶
Thank you for playing the entire segment of “Ow, My Balls!”
I saw this movie recently on YT and I enjoyed it for the most part. I recognized they guy who played Michael J Fox's father in Teen Wolf. GoodBadFlicks, you now have a new subscriber!
Big thumbs up for the Megadeth reference and shout out at the end. That is a great album.
Haha some of these old movies really crack me up. I sometimes wonder if each morning the crew got together and decided what to record for the day. Haha
As much as I enjoyed the movie, your review was fantastically humourous. I had to pause a few times as I was laughing too hard to hear. Thankye muchly. Pray continue! Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it!
They were definitely watching "Ouch my balls" in case they needed to fight the human race, that way they would know the main weakness for all male fighters
And Morbo thought it was our knees...

wait, wait, wait, lemme put megadeath on while I listen to this great exploration of... OH! I GET IT!
Welcome back man hope you get on a consistent schedule again.
Hey I'm 3/3 so far!
Wait....around the 4 minute 50 mark...did he just quote Megadeth?
Respect.
As much fun it was for the guy getting demolished in his balls, you really needed "Alex getting thrown out of the window". For some reason you mastered that art and it fits well in your videos.
Never change your intro dude. I yell it every time I start your videos.
Cool, James "Harold Howard" Hampton, was in this one! Am delighted about this current uploading schedule. You should do some more Sunn Classics films. Also, absolute genius the way you snuck in that Troll 2 gag!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This particular review is great! Excellent job! It's perfect! 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you!
I'm having a Mandala Effect moment as I thought I remembered this movie as the one that covered up the fake moon landing (which I think was Capricorn One).
Capricorn One is about a fake Mars landing, but is meant to be a referance to the fake moon landing
Yep, that's the one. Rewwatched it and its still pretty good. Nice cast.
0:37 I guess this is a slight step-up from "That man is playing Galaga."
I saw this in theaters back as a kid. I loved it then. Now... it has Kolchak. It's still great.
Great video Cecil. Love the megadeth references.
:)
Pandy and Dandy concert?!!! I thought I was the only one on the planet who had watched that film.
Best song ever....
Another great video! Been subscribed and watched your channel for years, but this is the first time I'm commenting. I wanted to suggest doing a video about House (1985).
Thanks! House is on the list :)
